I haven't posted anything in about three months, so hopefully this can make up for it a bit. Sorry if it's a bit long-winded, but there was a lot to say. Hope you enjoy. More stuff to come later. Nyanpasu.
The moment I knew this was one of my favorite anime: Natsumi - “I want to make something that people will look at and say ‘wow, I didn’t know you could make that out of wood!’” Renge - “A ROCK” One of many displays of Natsumi’s desire to have fun every day and Renge’s hilarious outside-the-box thinking that only a child could have
thanks for posting man, I'm actually from a small rural village and you fully expressed my feelings on the anime. I also didn't expect and was absolutely delighted to watch you go into the concepts of both iyashikei and mono no aware.
You do /a/ proud with such a love letter of a video for fans, new and old, those that have never seen the series, and those of us that rewatch it every year. Thanks for the laughs, tears and introspection. I think I'm finally ready to finish the series and see the girls finally grow up.
This was a masterclass analysis of one of my favorite animes of all times, and put into words what I was feeling throughout my entire watch. I had a quite pleasant upbringing in a rural town (though not as small as in Non Non Biyori - about 40,000, but very much in the middle of nowhere), and I found myself choking up multiple times during my watch, reminded of carefree, halcyon days with my best friends that will never return. The loss of innocence, the swift passage of time, learning to let go and look ahead to the future - these are all powerful themes that really resonate with me. Thank you for your brilliant breakdown.
I can't express to you just how much I love you videos. You make videos in the exact style and on the topics I want to see. Thank you for all your work put into these videos.
Natsumi and Renge are the best duo in Non Non Biyori. They're dynamic is my favorite part of the series. Also, yes! Genki tomboy supremacy! Incredibly based take!
Today i visited the real school wich was the inspiration for there schoo, just outside of tokyol. So i decided to watch some Non Non Biyori stuff there. Your video came up, and i have to say, quality stuff. Also my grammar is probably off, as a german i don't use english to write so often.
I'm so glad you made this video because it justifies my feelings towards this anime even more. I grew up in a small village here in Minnesota and I always loved it here and I still do not want to leave this place due to it's history and family who have moved away from the town due to it being hard to live off of the small wages and just having better opportunities outside the village. I love this village to death and want others to see why I love this place so much, I want to encourage more people to move back to this village and experience the beauty of it all. I was moved to tears by your video because you explain the feelings present when watching this anime so well, thank you very much for it.
Aria would be a real undertaking, and a lot of the stuff I said in this video could also be applied, but it's not off the table. Hidamari Sketch is another one I'd like to tackle one day.
I am going to watch this tomorrow, but just for now I want to say that when I saw this on my home page I literally let out an ungodly loud and high pitched "OOOH" for our neighbors to hear at 11 PM on a Sunday. Non Non Biyori is my favorite anime and manga and I'm very much looking forward to hearing the one-hour ramble about it by Pico the funny TH-cam weeaboo man.
I watched your video on yotsuba when I had never read yotsuba before and it convinced me to read it and I love it so much I'll definitely be checking this out soon :)
NNB doesn't get enough credit for being a truly great show regardless of genre. It's not just a slice of life or CGDCT show...it's just a really well written, animated, performed and directed bit of wholesome entertainment.
I discovered NNB at r/anime Awards where NNB Nonstop won the slice of life category. Feel in love with the series in the weeks I've watched it. Become a member of my top 10. I didn't expect much from the series as a person which rarely watches SoL anime, but this one it's a making your day more beautiful, sunny and calm. At the same time, being the GOAT at making you cry when it all ended. It was a beautiful journey and I ceriehed every minute of your video. It goes in so much detail about the characters that it feels like a fine MAL review by a veteran of the genre. The first year might has passed and it will be remembered.
I'm glad you mentioned Natsumi's ability to play with Renge and help her out. Natsumi is a dumb fun loving brat...but she's also really an outgoing friendly person that cares about everyone. I love her character.
I was about to sleep, 2am, I saw this in my recommended and said to myself "too long" Stayed the whole hour and it was really interesting, I really love this show, is in my top 3 for sure. Thank you for the excellent video, now it's 3am and I have to go to sleep and try my best at work today. This series and Iyashikei anime in general can really save lifes.
Excellent! The show reminded me very much of living in a village in New Brunswick in the sixties. Thought provoking analysis that has added to my enjoyment and understanding of the show. Please do Nichijou! Would also be interested in your thoughts on how Shinto has influenced a number of anime.
Great video. NNB was a surprise hit for me and now it's one of my favorite SOLs. Something that really stood out to me was the fact that every character including the side characters were fun to watch. I always wanna say Hikage is my favorite, but then I start second guessing with Subaru, Natsumi, Komari, Kazuho, etc. It's also one of those shows where I never rated it below an 8 on MAL. Def a one of a kind anime.
It was the third episode for me, that's the one that got me hooked. The show isn't just laughs and silly scenarios, it has a lot of heart with it. I hold it to be one of my favorite anime, ever. As much as I love NGE and others, N.N.B has a special place in my heart.
Found your channel Man , have my biggest respect Your videos are amazing, gorgeous and so close to my heart Watched three one hour vids of yours from the beginning till the end Never skipped , amazing job and great work my brother Thank you a lot for your efforts (Liked and subscribed ofc)
I think I've found my thesis subject thanks to this video. Just like a click tick in my head. I love your content. Keep up the good work ;) I hope you get as much satisfaction making videos than we do watching them.
The scenery is beautiful not just in the anime but real life too. I was in Sasebo Japan for 5 years due to my work, I was never an outdoor person but Sasebo Japan changed me. I was outside most of the time especially at night. I love walking the street at late night. I felt super relax and it legit felt like I was in an anime world. I was never scare about getting rob/ kill. The foods over there were so good, I swear there wasn't a single place serve bad food, and I traveled a lots while i was in Japan during my 5 years there, then I switched back to be a shut in as soon as I get back to U.S.
So I ran into your channel from the Azumanga Daioh video ... and I was so glad to see in the thumbnail that you also did a video on one of top five favorite anime of all time, Non Non Biyori. I must have watched Non Non Biyori Repeat at least five times already... I started watching season 2 by mistake and I started watching it during the pandemic. Non Non Biyori was a coping mechanism during those dark times, It truly was a healing anime. I really have no words to say that express how much I truly appreciate you for making this video, but you basically articulated what I feel about this anime and I want to thank you for that. This video is spreading the gospel of Non Non Biyrori and I hope more people will discover it eventually. Towards the end of last year, I started watching Aria... and I finished it at the beginning of this year. I was absolutely stunned how it quickly became one of my favorite anime of all time. Aria, K-on, and Non Non Biyori are in this top 3 pantheon of my favorite animes of all time. Mayhaps I'll be watching the Aria video made by you maybe? also I see that you did a video on Bone as well... I am slowly working on that book as well and I'll watch it as soon as I finish the book.
I would say only some people understand non non byori but those who do can never forget how good this anime is ... I am watching your video 3rd time and the anime 7th time .... I started it during lockdown previously i was watching naruto , death note, and all action anime with all planing scheming plot twist etc but suddenly when i found and watched non non byori my mind felt at ease there was nothing to understand no deeper meaning no/little plot twists just something relaxing
So much effort put in to your videos and lots of laughs. Really appreciate your work! Already turned on to new shows/finally finishing Yotsuba. NNB is something I’ve seen many times but I love what you have to say!
That was such a well made and fun video about a great anime. I will never forget the Biyoris ;-; few things I want to say Konomi is actually a yukai, renge found out since she is the smartest Akane is good because she admired hikage and I will marry dagashiya so don't worry the final thoughts part had me a bit too emotional. thank you!
I come to this feeling that the Miyauchi parents are.. dead. They are as we all know never seen and Kazuho is the one we see taking care of, as good as she can, her siblings. Not only does she do household shores, she also tends the farm and hold a full-time job as a teacher. She is always tired "for no obvious reason" when we see her because we see her through the lens of the younger children. But if we remove that lens and I am correct, imagine the work load and responsibility she endures. No wonder she is tired but always with a caring and kind heart. Surely the parents are not "out in the fields" even in snowstorms and what not. I think the "our parents are out working" is simply a coping mechanism the family use to not have to talk about it with people outside of the family. Also there are suddle hints to the same as in the movie Kazuho says 'she' cannot pay for another trip, but shy would she have to? Why would not the parents do so? Kazuho is probably the hero of this entire story but it is up to the audience to notice it. So even as much of a feel good and wholesome story we as audience see, I kind of think there are layers like this we can also use if we notice it. There are simply no artistic reasons to leave them completely out when other parents are indeed shown.
it's really not deep, the author just didn't want to show them because they are not that important. because every character has its purpose and sometimes to setup jokes. natsumi mom for example always be the bringer of the hammer to smack the koshigaya sibling, where's the dad? he's not important so no need to give screen time for him. hotaru parent was a setup to show that hotaru is still a child and always act childish in front of her parent shiori parent was a setup for police joke and eventually lead the group to help her mom to deliver the baby what about konomi parent? they are not important so atto-sensei don't feel like to expand them. nah the gag with kazu-nee "calm, lazy and how tf she became teacher ?" that's why it mentioned on movie that for the first time she act like an actual guardian and teacher. not because she "overworked" and act like single parent oh you absolutely have to go to field if there's storm, or your crop would be destroyed. "our parents are out working" are simply they are out for work, man. being farmer is one hella of job. "'she' cannot pay for another trip" because she's an adult already, and being a senile old farmer you think they would like to waste money on useless trip. remember they have to pay for hikage tuition, living expense, and rent on tokyo. "Kazuho is probably the hero" you really looking too deep into it, there's so many series out there where they didn't show the parent at all because it's not that important especially for slice of live K-ON didn't show any of their parent except yui for one chapter
@@hannasaynwittgenstein-berl6931 cool someone answered. First of I agree that farming is hell of a job, but not that much of a job, ask me how I know 😌 🚜 In fact farmers usually spend more times with their family since they work together or at least help out. And what do you think you can do to your crops in a storm that you should not have done before? You think farmers are out in the field with rakes and umbrellas protecting their crops from rain and wind? Where were the parents when rice planting season was happening? Would it not been such a good way to show how much hard work they do so that even the school kids are asked for help? The thing is we don't see them in the fields either, nor in wintertime with tons of snow and I am not sure you are aware but in winter, we do not work the fields at all. Sure thing it could be as you say "they are not important" but for being non important they are mentioned quite a few times. Why even include things like the painting everything dark at all if it has no meaning. Also even if deemed not needed for the story they could have shown them in the distance waving or anything, especially when the kids also did farming stuff. I don't question why she pays for her trip, but why would she need to pay for her sibling's trip? And why does she, the teacher and sister have to pay for, order and then operate the harvesting tractor? Why was that important to show, but not the parents? Pretty convinced there's more to the story than meets the eye
@@Wifyish depend on how big and how much man power they had. remember, this is family business. since renge is still child, hikage out of question, means only kazuho who can help them on spare time. also, the fact that they are atleast near on their 60s sure as hell it's gonna be an entire day for monitoring the whole field. Yes, you are still need to monitor the field out on the storm because you want to make sure the crop are safe unpredicted change of weather. speaking from my experience "Where were the parents when rice planting season was happening" again, is it really that important? deviating the attention to some old ass instead getting more screentime to main cast. is this your first slice of life ? "The thing is we don't see them in the fields either" because again, what good giving them screen time instead focusing on the main cast? they bring nothing at all. kazuho work as guardian from story perspective, and you know what the joke are? she's unreliable, that's why the show always show kaede as more reliable sister and guardian to renge seriously, is this your first slice of life man? i can recommend a lot of series where the parent are absolutely fuck all "Why even include things like the painting everything dark at all if it has no meaning" are you talking about spesific scene ? is it the joke about range painting black and the punch line is "dark future" or just for a metaphor ? anyway because the show is "non non biyori" do you know what it mean in english? "peaceful everyday life" it's about how mundane and peacful everyday life on country side from lens of our main character not everything need the "ooh there's something dark and subtle tragedy behind everything i tell ya" like good god, man "Also even if deemed not needed for the story" because it's irrelevant, there's hundred if not thousand of iyashikei and CGDCT manga/anime where they don't even mentioned their parent. so you saying everyone is death on every single one of them? just because they don't expand on stuff, doesn't mean it need some tragedy or some plot twist behind it "but why would she need to pay for her sibling's trip" because they're her family ? and she's an adult ? also she also went on the trip. i have 2 siblings and when i'm start working one of them is still on middle school. do you know what i'm doing? i paid for her allowance and tuition until high school. why ? a. because i want to lift a bit of burden in financial side on my parent b. because i'm able to and it's sensible for older sister to help their younger sibling "the teacher and sister have to pay for, already said it, if you have siblings especially the younger one, you will understand before asking this question "operate the harvesting tractor?" because in old saying "your child is part of labor crew" especially for small running family business you want to cut corner as much as possible and it's not against the law for your own child managing your business "Pretty convinced there's more to the story than meets the eye" more like you just need to stop thinking too much, not everything need a twist like M.Night shamalama dingdong it's an iyashikei, its cute girl doing cute thing, every girl has screen time and their own unique traits, and again it's peacful everyday life
Oh my God, I never realised. Non Non Biyori is just a 21st century Japanese Village Green. "We are the Asahigaoka preservation society. Kami save miso soup, botchan dango and variety. We are the branch school appreciation society Kami save curry stew and all the different varieties"
4:12 Interestingly enough, there are a number of schools in Japan that are in a condition similar to this, mostly because of large numbers of people moving to bigger cities and the population decline.
In one of the episodes, when Natsumi is supposed to be tidying her room so she can earn her share of dinner, she starts looking at old toys she has. One such toy she pulls out that gets called "old" is an orange worm with googley eyes on a string, and the moment I saw it, I shot up and looked around my bedroom to find the same toy, which I believe is called a magical wiglee.
Old video..but I'll comment...I adore this show...And have been lucky enough to have recently visited the real life school and candy store on which those in the show are based...I also visited real life locations for "Super CUB", "Bocchi The Rock" and "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid"....Was surreal.
Seriously saying i am watching this 4th time because no one talks about this show (which is ok and good) because when i was in a depressed and dark stage it found me it will found you when you need it.....
Kaede is best girl for me..but I do love Komari...she tries....and on occasion succeeds! ..Like helping out her sister by thinking up how to allow her to have more time with a new friend in the movie.
Alright so I tried watching this video and writing down my thoughts as it went along, but good Lord this is a lot of paragraphs. Believe it or not I trimmed out about half of what I'd written for being absolutely stupid. Anyways... 15:48 I see what you did there, you clever clapper, you! I'll admit, the first anime I saw after Non Non Biyori S3 ended was Joshiraku precisely because it has Ayane Sakura playing a redhead tomboy. Like a Diet Nattsun. Just like how Kanna Kamui is Diet Renchon. Also, side note, I liked calling Natsumi "Nacho Cheese". I don't know if other people like giving characters stupid nicknames, but yeah. Speaking of nicknames, I bestowed the nickname of "Koma-chan" upon the Icelandic dwarf femboy in the dorm room next to mine at folk high school. He was the only other guy at the school who liked Non Non Biyori, so he didn't mind. A pretty chill dude overall. 18:38 "So please, have some sympathy for the idiot" - at that, have some courtesy and some taste. Use all your well-learned politics, or she'll lay yoUR SOUL TO WASTE- 20:37 Hell yeah bois we've all got RENGE FEVER up in this hizzouse! Never forget, the nyanpass is the only true N-word pass. 28:34 Well, at least you don't pronounce "Kazuho" as "Kazoo Ho" like my mom does. 39:57 It's internationally known that Norwegians value a particular kind of coziness and wellness encapsulated by the words "hygge" and "kos", and I feel like iyashikei as a whole actually matches pretty well with the ideas of hygge. Norway even developed its own genre called "slow TV" inspired by our culture of coziness, which has gained kind of an international fanbase because of its soothing effect on many, and its domestic fanbase is also pretty established. I've watched slow TV on occasion myself, but if I had to pick between it and iyashikei, obviously I'm going for the one with cute cartoon girls. Domestic TV needs to git gud. 48:46 You have some good words about ephemerality, like a Daoist sage in the flesh. Also, I'd never heard of "mono no aware" before I watched this video. It's a cool term. 54:01 Random fact: "shiori" is Japanese for "bookmark". O hai bookmark. 55:25 I never noticed that detail about the flying birds in the finale. Well spotted. 55:57 "Every loose end" except what Suguru's voice sounds like. 0/10 worst ending in anime history. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I don't know if I'll ever be fully past Non Non Biyori ending. I got into NNB in October of 2019, and quickly caught up. For things like Azumanga and K-ON!, they conclusively ended years ago, so I could just look at the episode number to know how much time I had left. I figured it was the same with Non Non… Then suddenly I heard that they were making a third season, and I awaited it like the Second Coming of Jesus Fitzgerald Christ. My first anime I'd ever watch as it broadcast, and a Hell of a time it was!… And the time flew like a falcon. As the Pavel Ovsyannikov song goes, "Vsyo proidyot" - "Everything will pass". With that finale, the Non Nons got the exact bittersweet emotional reaction from me as they were going for, and good on them. Honestly, it was more of an emotional reaction than I've felt for pretty much any other show ever. The only shows that even come close to having finales as impactful on me as Non Non's are Azumanga Daioh, and retroactively My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic of all things... I look back on my brony days with nostalgia, OK? Don't judge me. After Non Non Biyori ended, I decided that I would write a script for a Norwegian fandub of the show, so that people I know who don't speak English can get the chance to enjoy it too. Especially Norwegian kids whose parents don't mind Hotaru's precocity. Non Non Biyori may be a Japanese show, but I always felt like it had kind of a Norwegianness to it. When I watched NNB S1&2, I went to an upper secondary school class that was a lot like the class at Asahigaoka. Except everybody was either autistic or "special". NNB S3 I watched at a folk high school in Åsnes, which is one of the sparsest parts of Norway. It was wack to finish an episode of Non Non, then opening the curtains of my school dorm room to reveal what was essentially the real-life Asahigaoka just outside. 2020-2021 was still the worst year of my life, but at least streaming the Non Nons and the Yuru Camps with my mom, and then taking a stroll outside, made life a little brighter. Anyways, back to that Norwegian Biyori fandub: kinda like with every other overambitious project I do, I only wrote the first half of S1E1 in the span of a few hours, called it a night, and then kept telling myself, "I'll keep working on this fandub thing another day"... But hey, maybe the end speech of your video is enough motivation for me to get back into writing it. Writing half a script of Non Non was all things considered pretty fun, although it was time consuming to spend about 3 hours on writing 11 minutes (at that rate it would take 216 hours to translate the whole series). But yeah. It was fun revisiting this show I love, glossing the original Japanese sentences and translating them into Norwegian, even adding in local references and finding equivalents to the cast's yakuwarigo… Norwegian isn't a language I write in much, because my mom's an immigrant, my dad's dead, and I'm a shut-in loser. So, it was like writing this Biyori translation was helping me connect with my sense of nationality. With the native language of my peers. And fuck me hard, "Okaeri" is just a heart-melting song, isn't it? I wonder if you've heard "Okaeri, Keion!". With fewer than 7,000 YT views it's unlikely, but it's just this lovely combination of "Okaeri" and "Tenshi ni Fureta yo". It's like crossing the bittersweetness of either song, at that either show. It's wonderful.
I think the claim that Atto is in his 70s came from this weird seemingly automated Wiki database that conflated the mangaka Atto with an organization with the acronym ATTO that was founded around 1950. Atto is one of those manga artists who prefers to stay very anonymous (no personal information about him beyond his works has been compiled in his entry on the Japanese version of Wikipedia) but, given that he's only been active as a mangaka since about 2007, my best guess would be that he's probably only in his early 40s at the oldest.
If Hikage is the most popular character, I wouldn't be too surprised if Atto revives Koakuma Meringue/The Little Devil Girl Meringue, where Hikage first appeared, considering several supernatural slice-of-life comedy manga featuring unlucky demon girls on Earth (i.e. Gabriel DropOut, The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated, and The Demon Girl Next Door) have gotten anime adaptations over the past few years.
Love the video as a fan of this series it’s great to see someone talk about it in depth. One complaint I have is you getting mad at 23:46 for some people interpreting Renge as autistic. What’s wrong with interpreting her as autistic or having Aspergers, I know a lot of people on the spectrum like to head cannon characters that display autistic traits as autistic because we don’t get to see our selfs represented in media very often.
Personally, i can never rewatch an anime, especially one where it was impactful to me, NNB is once in a lifetime experience and now its over but hopefully in the future we would get a spiritual successor or a sequel but sadly SoL is not that popular of a genre so it'll be slow to get there.
0/10 you forgot to mention that the S1 OP is the best OP of all time sorry Seriously though, your videos remind me of a toned down Max0r or SSeth. Also, I see a lot of what I liked (and you talked about) from this show in Twin Peaks, albeit in a more serious context. I would be interested in hearing you talk about it, and I would highly suggest it to anyone who wants more of this kind of media.
I haven't posted anything in about three months, so hopefully this can make up for it a bit.
Sorry if it's a bit long-winded, but there was a lot to say. Hope you enjoy. More stuff to come later. Nyanpasu.
Its fine dude
Bro, this was a brilliant review befitting to this masterpiece. 🌿🏜️🍂❄️
Nyanpasu!
The moment I knew this was one of my favorite anime:
Natsumi - “I want to make something that people will look at and say ‘wow, I didn’t know you could make that out of wood!’”
Renge - “A ROCK”
One of many displays of Natsumi’s desire to have fun every day and Renge’s hilarious outside-the-box thinking that only a child could have
Feeling depressed because my cat died. I fell asleep and didn't open the door for her during a rain storm. Feeling better watching this show.
Hope you have a nice day
God my cat is next to me rn and I'm getting depressed thinking about that. I hope you're doing well.
thanks for posting man, I'm actually from a small rural village and you fully expressed my feelings on the anime.
Much appreciated.
High IQ video on a high IQ channel. I always enjoy watching videos like this. Keep up the good work m8
Upon learning that a Non Non Biyori video was uploaded,my heart became filled with warmth, pride and childlike joy.
Aria video next ?
Aria would be a real undertaking, and a lot of the stuff I said in this video could also be applied, but it's not off the table. Hidamari Sketch is another one I'd like to tackle one day.
can't believe this is posted on my birthday
the best birthday present yet
Excellent take. You definitely understand the appeal of the show and genre. This video deserves way more views.
This deserves so many more views than it has.
You nailed it as usual man. Never boring and always insightful
I just planned to rewatch.
I fucking miss komari. I miss all the Biyoris hopefully this video will help to fill the void
Bless you
They all live on within yer kokoro.
Animated lithium! No matter how bad a day I've had watching an episode or two calms me right down.
I watched your video on yotsuba when I had never read yotsuba before and it convinced me to read it and I love it so much I'll definitely be checking this out soon :)
Great video bro. You put to words to everything I enjoyed about this show. Much thanks.
I'm holding my tears watching this video of yours, thank you
I know this video came out 3 weeks ago but I'm so glad you made another big upload
I'm glad you mentioned Natsumi's ability to play with Renge and help her out. Natsumi is a dumb fun loving brat...but she's also really an outgoing friendly person that cares about everyone. I love her character.
Dude, the stuff you make is just really good. Keep it up!
Would also be interested in your thoughts on how Shinto has influenced a number of anime.
absolutely amazing video about one of my favorite shows. Great job man!
Your videos are pretty good and laid back. Very good to listen to while doing chores. 👍🏿
It was the third episode for me, that's the one that got me hooked. The show isn't just laughs and silly scenarios, it has a lot of heart with it. I hold it to be one of my favorite anime, ever. As much as I love NGE and others, N.N.B has a special place in my heart.
Finally found time to watch this in full. great video
Found your channel
Man , have my biggest respect
Your videos are amazing, gorgeous and so close to my heart
Watched three one hour vids of yours from the beginning till the end
Never skipped , amazing job and great work my brother
Thank you a lot for your efforts
(Liked and subscribed ofc)
Fr I just subbed
I think I've found my thesis subject thanks to this video. Just like a click tick in my head.
I love your content. Keep up the good work ;)
I hope you get as much satisfaction making videos than we do watching them.
The foods over there were so good, I swear there wasn't a single place serve bad food, and I traveled a lots while i was in Japan during my 5 years there, then I switched back to be a shut in as soon as I get back to U.S.
i dont even feel like watching the anime anymore you explained it perfectly! love it
Another great look into a pop culture icon, I don't know what it is, your videos are awesome man. Keep up the great work!
This was a beautiful reflection on the series mate, hats off.
I am slowly working on that book as well and I'll watch it as soon as I finish the book.
i guess its time for me to finally pick this show up and watch it
I would say only some people understand non non byori but those who do can never forget how good this anime is ...
I love these Deeply analysis series
An hour of my Zen meditation video
I fall asleep with this
just wanted to say i found your channel yesterday and I really like your analysis and style. Maybe because we have similar taste in shows. Good job!
That was such a well made and fun video about a great anime. I will never forget the Biyoris ;-;
few things I want to say
Konomi is actually a yukai, renge found out since she is the smartest
Akane is good because she admired hikage
and I will marry dagashiya so don't worry
the final thoughts part had me a bit too emotional. thank you!
damn. This vid definitely deserves more than 4k views
There are simply no artistic reasons to leave them completely out when other parents are indeed shown.
it's really not deep, the author just didn't want to show them because they are not that important. because every character has its purpose and sometimes to setup jokes.
natsumi mom for example always be the bringer of the hammer to smack the koshigaya sibling, where's the dad? he's not important so no need to give screen time for him.
hotaru parent was a setup to show that hotaru is still a child and always act childish in front of her parent
shiori parent was a setup for police joke and eventually lead the group to help her mom to deliver the baby
what about konomi parent? they are not important so atto-sensei don't feel like to expand them.
nah the gag with kazu-nee "calm, lazy and how tf she became teacher ?" that's why it mentioned on movie that for the first time she act like an actual guardian and teacher.
not because she "overworked" and act like single parent
oh you absolutely have to go to field if there's storm, or your crop would be destroyed.
"Kazuho is probably the hero" you really looking too deep into it, there's so many series out there where they didn't show the parent at all because it's not that important especially for slice of live
K-ON didn't show any of their parent except yui for one chapter
Yes, you are still need to monitor the field out on the storm because you want to make sure the crop are safe unpredicted change of weather. speaking from my experience
"Where were the parents when rice planting season was happening"
again, is it really that important? deviating the attention to some old ass instead getting more screentime to main cast. is this your first slice of life ?
"The thing is we don't see them in the fields either"
because again, what good giving them screen time instead focusing on the main cast? they bring nothing at all. kazuho work as guardian from story perspective, and you know what the joke are?
she's unreliable, that's why the show always show kaede as more reliable sister and guardian to renge
seriously, is this your first slice of life man? i can recommend a lot of series where the parent are absolutely fuck all
"Why even include things like the painting everything dark at all if it has no meaning"
are you talking about spesific scene ? is it the joke about range painting black and the punch line is "dark future"
or just for a metaphor ? anyway
because the show is "non non biyori" do you know what it mean in english? "peaceful everyday life"
it's about how mundane and peacful everyday life on country side from lens of our main character
not everything need the "ooh there's something dark and subtle tragedy behind everything i tell ya"
like good god, man
"Also even if deemed not needed for the story"
because it's irrelevant, there's hundred if not thousand of iyashikei and CGDCT manga/anime where they don't even mentioned their parent.
so you saying everyone is death on every single one of them? just because they don't expand on stuff, doesn't mean it need some tragedy or some plot twist behind it
"but why would she need to pay for her sibling's trip"
because they're her family ? and she's an adult ? also she also went on the trip.
i have 2 siblings and when i'm start working one of them is still on middle school. do you know what i'm doing? i paid for her allowance and tuition until high school. why ?
a. because i want to lift a bit of burden in financial side on my parent
b. because i'm able to and it's sensible for older sister to help their younger sibling
"the teacher and sister have to pay for,
already said it, if you have siblings especially the younger one, you will understand before asking this question
"operate the harvesting tractor?"
because in old saying "your child is part of labor crew" especially for small running family business
you want to cut corner as much as possible and it's not against the law for your own child managing your business
"Pretty convinced there's more to the story than meets the eye"
more like you just need to stop thinking too much, not everything need a twist like M.Night shamalama dingdong
it's an iyashikei, its cute girl doing cute thing, every girl has screen time and their own unique traits, and again
it's peacful everyday life
1 HOUR, man. Your vids are great, editing is cool, wonder why only 2k subs
The "This is the end 'for now' " banner at the end of the final OVA, is what kept me alive till now.
i absolutely need a folder of your gifs and pics right now
cant wait for the nichijou vid
masterpiece video, keep up the good work, this was an amazing watch!
Oh my God, I never realised. Non Non Biyori is just a 21st century Japanese Village Green.
"We are the Asahigaoka preservation society. Kami save miso soup, botchan dango and variety.
We are the branch school appreciation society
Kami save curry stew and all the different varieties"
i am happy that there are other people that feels the same about non non biyori.
loved this video
4:12 Interestingly enough, there are a number of schools in Japan that are in a condition similar to this, mostly because of large numbers of people moving to bigger cities and the population decline.
I fucking love non non biyori, thanks for making this video dude
In one of the episodes, when Natsumi is supposed to be tidying her room so she can earn her share of dinner, she starts looking at old toys she has. One such toy she pulls out that gets called "old" is an orange worm with googley eyes on a string, and the moment I saw it, I shot up and looked around my bedroom to find the same toy, which I believe is called a magical wiglee.
It's an amazing slice of life anime: full of innocence and calmness.
It's actually a therupatic anime.❤
Wait till you find out what the twin tail girl in other anime is like 🗿
Why your views and subscriber are so criminally low? This is great essay, dude. Keep up the good work!
I don't normally comment but man this was awesome 😊
Iyashikei is not just an anime genre. Its something I try to build my life around
Seriously saying i am watching this 4th time because no one talks about this show (which is ok and good) because when i was in a depressed and dark stage it found me it will found you when you need it.....
Same bruh, i cant accept there are no season 4😢
Yay another Upload!
God uploads again
42:52 i love that sound
The best rice field.
saw the time stamp and literally thought this was some random ost repost
Kaede is best girl for me..but I do love Komari...she tries....and on occasion succeeds! ..Like helping out her sister by thinking up how to allow her to have more time with a new friend in the movie.
Kaede is my waifu. If Natsumi is a tomboy than Kaede is the alpha tomboy. Which is demonstrated time and time again by Kaede epicly pwning Natsummi.
.. thats the only thing i wanna see in the last episode of the last season... Seeing Renge smiling and laughing.
That was an awesome video : D
I'm 5 minutes in and I have to say
subbed and liked
Use all your well-learned politics, or she'll lay yoUR SOUL TO WASTE-
20:37 Hell yeah bois we've all got RENGE FEVER up in this hizzouse!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I don't know if I'll ever be fully past Non Non Biyori ending.
If this series had people speaking with osaka ben, i definitely will more love it
I'm not crying
Kazuho is legit the perfect waifu...(I also grew up in the country, so I'm bias)
The ED of Repeat makes me cry like a little b
Love the video as a fan of this series it’s great to see someone talk about it in depth. One complaint I have is you getting mad at 23:46 for some people interpreting Renge as autistic. What’s wrong with interpreting her as autistic or having Aspergers, I know a lot of people on the spectrum like to head cannon characters that display autistic traits as autistic because we don’t get to see our selfs represented in media very often.
Finished it last night and now I have no comfort food
53:00 those were awesome
I must watch this anime! I’m living in a town of 500 people and I must admit I do not see many cute anime girls here but I’ll let it slide
48:55 what song is that
I like you
Renge definitely has autism everything you said about her made me go “yeah it’s the autism”
15:26 i fucking knew it! saw it coming from a mile away!
What is the show at 12:02? Unless I'm blind and that's still Non Non Biyori.
Working!! (Yes that's the title).
God video
When are you going to do one about the original show about nothing - Seinfeld - and its spiritual successor - It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia?
Cinema ✋🗿✋
46:17 What Episode is this from again? 😊
The last episode of season two.
@@PicotheSpicyWarlord Thank you so much! 😊
Personally, i can never rewatch an anime, especially one where it was impactful to me, NNB is once in a lifetime experience and now its over but hopefully in the future we would get a spiritual successor or a sequel but sadly SoL is not that popular of a genre so it'll be slow to get there.
Idk why youtube doesn't recommend channels like this .....to much creatives idk
Americans and their food analogies I swear...
0/10 you forgot to mention that the S1 OP is the best OP of all time sorry
Seriously though, your videos remind me of a toned down Max0r or SSeth. Also, I see a lot of what I liked (and you talked about) from this show in Twin Peaks, albeit in a more serious context. I would be interested in hearing you talk about it, and I would highly suggest it to anyone who wants more of this kind of media.
Agreed. nano.ripe slaps
