It’s so lovely seeing people enjoy this show for the first time, I barely remember watching this for the first time as an 11-year-old back in 2009 because since then I’ve seen it over a hundred times probably, around the age of 14 I downloaded the show into my phone as mp3 files and listened to it like a podcast over and over again 😭
@@Totaraum It’s a lovely show and I just love how well realized the characters are, they might not have sweeping characters arcs where they change and grow as people like in k-on! I first watched it in 2016 and just fell in love with the charter dynamic. I don't think it is hard to get into if you don't know all the references like others would say I just think you have to be a bigger fan of Slice of Life than other genres. plus the Opening is a banner that's recognizable to everyone within the community for a who haven't seen the show but know the opening.
We literally had the same experience with this show. From not liking much of the comedy, not getting the references, only understanding the haruhi and geass references and also liking dub. I tried to articulate why I liked the show so much despite having only started watching anime from about a year ago and understanding none of it. but I gave up.
Bro the first episode that has Kagami sick at home is surprisingly relatable years later because she mentions “…that virus that’s been going around” I first watched this when I was 12, and as an adult I watch it at least once a year. It always feels fresh yet nostalgic
Proof that Lucky Star is timeless lol. I feel the same about it feeling fresh and nostalgic. We probably don't remember the topics of all the frivolous conversations we've had with our friends, but we do remember having fun so it probably transfers over
I’m 25 and Lucky Star has always been one of my comfort watches, especially during Covid. It was one of the first anime I watched and knew what it was about middle school even though I never got any of the anime references. Watching it now I still find it adorable and I absolutely agree with you that the Dub is AMAZING
Lucky Star is the first anime I watched online to completion as a kid! Even then I didn't get the references cause I was so new to the anime scene. But I still loved it!
that intro was solid, anyways from what i remember from "lucky star" was that wacky as op and the fact it was filled to the brim with "haruhi" references. good video as always gg
Kagami is a mood. This is by far the best comedy ive seen in honeslty in any medium, ive never laughed harder, especially with the clannad, kanon, and haruhi references. Also the sus dad and lucky channel, it never stops with this show, its relentless. If hyouka is a big brain approach to the slice of life genere, lucky star is that for anime comedy. 10/10 Also youre spot on how konata isnt just pandering to otaku/ mmo fandom, she comes off as quirky kind of strange with them, very good character writing
I still go back to this show every couple weeks. I've rewatched it a million times since it came out. I was way to young, not even 10 and this show really got me excited to live life and be a teen. Now when I watch it it's this crazy time capsule and is just this warm and familiar thing that has never let me down. The mangas are great too.
oh mannnn you summed my feelings on this show perfectly. I watched Lucky Star with my friend on the school bus every morning in like 2013. I'd seen a ton of 'cute girls do stuff' slice of life anime, but like you said, the characters in Lucky Star actually feel like real people. The show is so boringly down to earth in the best way. It felt true to my everyday life as a girl in high school. I've always thought it says a lot about Lucky Star that even though it was aimed at adult men, a huge portion of the audience (at least in the west) ended up being teenage girls.
Lucky Star is my favorite anime of all time and I never knew why, after watching this video I still don't really know. I just can't put my thoughts and feelings into words yet and I hope to one day. However this video did shed some light on a few things and honestly all I can say is thank you. Thank you for this great video that has taught me a new way to look at it. Always happy to find fellow Lucky Star enjoyers. That's about it from me, I wish you a great day.
I think Lucky Star's art style is really excellent for it, because it's a perfect example of how something can be simple, but also high quality. in fact, I'd say Lucky Star's animation is high quality because it's simple. it's not technically doing anything impressive, or anything at all most of the time, but even with a lot of the subtle movement... the silhouettes are right. the shapes are right, the perspective is right... this is a show that has no jank to the visuals. and that level of polish just kind of blends into the pastels... it isn't intimidating. this show is so comforting because it makes everything in the world feel soft and kind, even while maintaining just enough energy to keep it from being too saccharine or boring. I think it lets me relax the most because there's nothing I feel like I have to do... not even with the characters. I don't have to go to an after school club, I don't have to actually do any homework... the show cuts out all the parts I remember being stressful about school, and just gives you the down time where you can take it easy. it's almost like meditating, because the show models a level of calm and carefree that I might legitimately not be feeling in life at the moment. it gives you an amount of time where you feel like nothing else has to matter. and actually, it is kind of infectious how the characters will singularly focus on doing really simple routine things, or how they won't think to hard before admitting that they don't know something. even risking looking dumb for not knowing a thing isn't that big a deal... they'll just talk about it and eventually maybe figure it out together. it doesn't make you feel talked down to, because the characters are the ones wondering, and when they do it, it feels endearing. and you can kind of start thinking in terms of asking simple questions to yourself, or getting randomly happy about tiny things. and it can also be indulgent to see the characters have their cute aesthetic reflected in the whole art style of the show. when they're all sitting together eating their bento boxes at lunch, their handkerchiefs all have cute designs on them, or they'll wear unique outfits that fit their style... someone will have a pink mechanical pencil with a pencil topper, or someone will have a cute keychain on their bag, or someone will have a scarf with a pretty pattern on it, and you start realizing that the way everything in the show is drawn gives off the same appeal. you just get to watch it all function in motion, which is satisfying. basically, I think Lucky Star is a perfect storm of good qualities.
It has a lot going for it, for sure. I think that's why I found enjoyment in it even after the comedy fell flat. As for the visuals, I think the simplicity lends itself to a timeless aesthetic. It's so good
i was in middle school and already a full-on anime nerd when this show came out, the cute art style and fun music immediately had me hooked. the appeal can be hard to explain but lucky star just hits different, it's the one of the comfiest shows i can think of. they're literally just hangin out doing whatever and it's just adorable and calming to watch
Found this like 4 months ago finally finished Lucky Star 2 after watching it for 2 months and watching this video, why in the actual heck does this video only get this much views
I find it weird that I like this show so much, I would easily say its one of if not my favourites even though i only started watching anime a couple years back, similar to you. I would probably agree with what you said, it being to do with the relatability, however, I would also say the humor works quite well for me. Also have you seen the ova, its phenominal.
i know im years late to finishing the anime, but i really love lucky star. i first watched it when i was 6 or 7 on the animax channel on my grandfathers tv and i totally forgot about it until i found a clip of konata in a meme somewhere around 2020. thats where i got the most time on my hands and decided to finish the anime and i love it ever since then
I think this video touches on one of my favorite aspects of anime; the shows that speak to the individual. I love to talk to others and hear about their favorite picks and what they mean to them. I know my personal favorite have a lot of meaning and so it’s cool to see that feeling relayed in conversation. It makes every anime fan unique and I love it. Beside shounen watchers. They are all the same. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to more!!
I think that personal connection to the work is very intriguing as well, which is why I try to incorporate them as much as I can in my videos. Thanks again for the kind words, I’m glad to hear you’re looking forward to more! By the way, what’s showmen lmao. Did you mean shounen?
You know, I never cared about Lucky Star as much as, say, K-ON, but that Lucky channel karaoke joke is one of my favorite bits ever. Like, the quality is literally the punchline and it's hilarious.
14:11 “That was some fancy clicking, but those engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever. Otherwise, *You’re pretty good.* “ That Revolver Ocelot quote was actually out of nowhere. I’ve been obsessed with Spaghetti Western cowboy movies. A very weird contrast to Lucky Star and other things I watch, but that quote made me burst out laughing, even though I’m watching in the middle of the night
I first watched Lucky Star in 2008. I was 13 at the time and was just getting into anime. Probably not the best show to start off, right? Regardless, I immediately fell in love with it. As you mentioned, it wasn't for the comedy or the references (many of which I didn't get at the time). I think the main goal of Lucky Star is to make you say "Bro, I feel that". The characters' dialogues are so realistically casual that you get the feeling you've been in those situations before, even if you never have. The characters, the timeless art style, the goofy background music and the overall feeling of coziness do magic and make it one of the most unique slice of life anime shows. And should I even mention that Konata is the most accurate representation of gamers and anime fans out there? I rewatched Lucky Star several times and each time I thought "Maybe it's not going to be as good as I remember it to be". Boy was I wrong. It delivers every time. I also recommended it to some of my friends, just to check whether I was blinded by nostalgia or it was actually a good show. And yes, some of them really liked it! I can't express how happy I felt sharing it with somebody. I think many people didn't like the show because they had wrong expectations. If you want to recommend it to somebody, tell them to not expect anything at all. That's the only way of going into it. Relax and catch the vibe.
These days I am much more into the Lucky Star games, but the anime was the first "real" anime I ever watched. I say "real" because I did watch stuff like Pokemon and other animes made with an international audience in mind (and heavily localized dubs). Was a big part of inspiring me to learn Japanese too. Lucky Star the anime honestly has a lot in common with the more mundane parts of Peanuts specials. It's a bunch of 4-panel comic strips put in animated form, and most comic strips have the premise of "a bunch of characters interact with each other and nothing really happens long term" so it's really not very unusual when viewed that way.
I didn’t know lucky star had games. If I had to guess I’d say they lean more towards the visual novel side of things. I think you’re on point with your comparison to the Peanuts. A lot of the time people talk down to mundane stuff like this, forgetting that some of the most popular pieces of media of all time are about every day life. I don’t think it’s weird for me to enjoy lucky star the way I did, but it sure can feel that way sometimes. Also congrats on learning/working on learning Japanese! Knowing multiple languages is a very cool skill to have
Honestly can relate to what is said in this video crazy much, even with little details like having watched the show only about a year after starting to watch Anime in the first place. My order for watching Anime is 'psychological', then 'slice of life' and then 'action', with Lucky Star only being in the second loop. The fact that my first loop's slice of life was Haruhi certainly made me appreciate Lucky Star much more, even if I still missed like 99% of references and found the humor in this show much less appealing than that of Haruhi. But a big benefit was how much more I like the characters in Lucky Star overall. None of them reach my levels of affection for Haruhi herself or my appreciation of Kyon but there isn't a single character I dislike, which can't be said for any of the other Anime I have watched so far.
You had to be there for this show. And Gintama. I wwtched it back in the days and it was so funny because all my buddies were into Bleach, Naruto, Get Backers. Escaflowne. Etc etc etc. For me this show is hilarious. Best character is Koroi Sensei lmaoooooo. Shes my spirit animal
Great video, I loved the bits where you parodied segments of the show :p Even though its such a low-stakes show, lucky star might be my favorite anime of all time for how genuine it is. There’s something very comforting about just listening to everyday conversation. I also think the visuals are very appealing and I love how smooth and consistently on-model everything is animated. Even though I know it’ll probably never happen, I’m still hoping for a season 2, ;w; Also interestingly, this year an official German dub of Lucky Star came out.
lucky star really is such a great show! it was one of my first animes ever (i think even THE first? but i cant verify rip), i watched the dub when i was like 8 yrs old on youtube lol. i didnt understand ANY references (still dont understand them actually, im not a huge anime watcher lol) and most of the jokes flew right over my head, but i still for some reason adored it for what it was. it impacted me ALOT at the time, it solidified my love of slice of life stuff at a young age, it really REALLY inspired me artistically at the time in ways i still notice in my work today, etc etc. sometimes i wonder how different i'd be if i ended up watching a different anime instead lol AND OH MY GOD FOR REAL ABOUT THE MUSIC!!!! holy hell dude its a CRIME how good kanatas theme is !!!! i genuinely get emotional listening to it sometimes lol, it just GETS me for some reason. the theme song, hell even just the BACKGROUND MUSIC is in my playlists! oh and hey another dub watcher!! it really is SO GREAT ahhh!!!! its probably cause it was the one i watched when i was a kid and reading subs is annoying (+ i watch it almost exclusively while i draw), and maybe cause im kinda into western cartoons & VAs, but its just what i prefer now lolol. OKAY let me stop rambling now. thanks for this 2 yr old video on my reccomendations, ill maybe go rewatch lucky star again haha
I'm probably one of the younger lucky star fans out there. At the time of writing I'm a 2nd year in university; however, I've been watching anime for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I was so attracted to the internet and almost exclusively watched anime. Although it was when I was born, and would normally otherwise be too young to do so, I feel a ton of nostalgia for the early 2000's. I get most of the references (besides haruhi lol). I also love it for many of the reasons stated here. None of my peers (even those quite a bit older) know about this show which feels a little lonely.
I knew almost none of these references when I first saw this anime, since when I watched it about 14 years ago it was one of the first few anime I had seen.
It was the first anime i’ve watched, and the best one. I’ve only got into anime about a year ago. Lucky star was great at expressing feelings, sad moments and very happy moments. Really relatable characters, and an amazing soundtrack. They should really make another season, especially because it’s been getting popular recently, and let another generation experience this great anime. It would be so cool watching them go into college and growing old!
This show is absolutely amazing, so amazing that I somehow managed to watched 4 episodes of it RAW completely unsubbed despite not know any Japanese at all (for context I had a few episodes downloaded but I had forgotten to download the subs and my internet was out) I just continued to watch in a trance until I realised shit it's been like 2 hours. 10/10 show, rewatched it like 5 times already.
I just like the show because its a one of a one-of-a-kind show. Hack the 1st episode is about what end of Cornet would you start with which is just funny and bizarre.
YES! Finally! Somebody mentions the mysterious stink of the show, iv looked everywhere for the answer behind the stink but it has eluded me so far…some day I will find out what is truly stinky.
I hope that day comes as well. Who knows, though, maybe they're talking about something different every time? I know in one clip Kagami is referring to Minoru Shiraishi which is pretty funny
@@Totaraum also love your review on it in general, way more thought out than the one I made XD, keep up the awesome work, don't know how you have so little numbers.
I actually think that the audience potentially not getting all the references is part of the authenticity of this show... like, idk about anybody else, but my group of friends doesn't perfectly maintain 100% of the same interests. sometimes we'll watch a show together, and all of us will enjoy that, but each individual person has their own web of stuff they've liked on their own, which the rest of the group could be unfamiliar with. so during a conversation, someone might make a reference that you don't understand, for the sake of the only other person in the conversation who has played that game and knows what they're talking about. or just for the sake of themselves, because the opportunity was really too good to pass up. and when no one gets it, and they ask what they meant, the person sometimes has the opportunity to get up on their soapbox and explain obscure shit about the stuff they like. I feel like this is especially common in high school, when kids mostly interact while at school, so sharing media with others doesn't always happen expediently, even though they might have plenty of time to consume new media in their down time at home (probably unsanctioned down time that they're shaving off of their study time, which is a mood). or if you've met someone new, you have no real indication of what their prior knowledge consists of, or if they have a similar frame of reference to you. or if you just have to make do socializing with whoever you happen to share classes or lunch hours with, you might end up befriending some genuinely good people with wildly different tastes and interests to you. you've actually probably spent a large proportion of your life getting communicated to via references that sailed high over your head, only for you to ask for clarification, and the rest of the conversation flows from that. and Konata does at least some of this... like whenever she says something bizarre and Kagamine immediately deadpans "what the hell are you talking about?" which launches Konata on an explanation of some nerdy thing or another. each person tends to respond to it differently too, like how Tsukasa will relate topics back to things she's experienced, or Miyuki will talk about things she knows about the subject. but even when the show just changes format, and you know it's in reference to something, but you have no idea what... you can trust that Konata knows, and this is genuinely the kind of reference that she would enjoy. even for back in 2007, some of these references could've been pretty niche, especially if Konata was referencing something that was popular in Japan at the time, but never really made it over to the US. the important part is that these are Konata's interests, and they remain totally consistent, which makes her a well realized character.
I loved the show and was incredibly sad when it ended too. I frequently enjoy slower paced slice of life shows, because I like to have something funny on when I play video games. So it's a very unique niche to fill.
i also liked this show and i laughed at some (?) of the jokes, idk anymore, its all a chaotic blur with this show, but id say u did a good job at explaining it
I totally feel the same. Since I’m still in high school most of friends don’t understand the references in lucky star and most of them mainly watch shonen anime so I feel like if I would recommend this show to them they won’t like it. I’ve always been the only watching shows from the 2000’s and as you can see by my profile picture I love this show. Konata’s life is pretty much what I would wish for in high school and I’ve always related to her so when I finished the show I didn’t wanted it to end here. It felt as if my days with the lucky star character was over and that made me a bit sad.
I'm glad you enjoyed the show so much! To this day I still don't get most of the references, but that's fine with me. Also, there's no reason why you can't enjoy the rest of your high school days to the fullest like you want to. Best of luck!
16:10 wow, now that had to be intentional. Also, you really nailed the atmosphere and feel of the show here and there when you tried to, I can tell you love it.
The beginning made me laugh, nice one 😊 I really enjoyed watching this when I was on holiday~ I admire the chillness and hilarity of it, plus I can relate to Konata and others ^v^
Just started on this show. I'm only 4 eps in but I knew damn well I wasn't gonna spoil anything hearing your take on it because I was like "yeah... this show is about nothing lol" It's a feel-good fun watch though. Main reason I'm commenting is to FULLY agree with you about the overwhelming urge for some of these shows to constantly relate everything to a video game or anime. I'm reading the Rewirite VN right now and they do this shit all the time and I. HATE. IT.
I remember watching this show since I found it by accident and ever since then I go back to watch it again and again cause it’s just too funny and random. Also liking the dub
In the words of a wise man, 「Konata Lucky Star She is the best by far If you don't like her you're bizaaaaarre」 Not seeing this video until it had been out for a week got me to click the bell button on this channel. Your videos are always a blast to watch, so it's a shame not to see them right away. And what a nice coincidence that this video came out around the same time as another one of my favorite small anime reviewers, Hazel, posted a video about fellow 2000s slice-of-life classic Azumanga Daioh (which I frankly prefer to Lucky Star, fite me). I definitely agree with a lot of what you had to say about Lucky Star. Most references in Lucky Star went over my head, especially when I first watched it, which was only about three months after I'd started getting into anime myself. I didn't even know what a "Haruhi" was! The jokes in Lucky Star, likewise, were quite a mixed bag, and the first few episodes in particular weren't that funny. I heard that KyoAni actually replaced the director after episode 4 for that reason. Yet Lucky Star was nevertheless just something that I really enjoyed regardless, and you've perfectly captured why exactly. Nice ending karaoke of 「Motteke! Serafuku」 by the way. You truly have the voice of an angel. Postscript: I don't think I've mentioned YuruYuri to you in a comment yet - that's an anime that I feel has a somewhat similar vibe to Lucky Star, except more of the jokes land IMO. Unfortunately it has no dub, though.
I’m glad you found your way to this video in the end lol, thanks for clicking the bell. I haven’t heard of either of the shows you mentioned, (which is seems like a running theme now) so I’ll have to check them both out soon. Thank you for the singing praise as well, I’m pretty sure I could go pro if I wanted to
@@Totaraum J.C.Staff's Azumanga Daioh anime is often called things like the "grandma of slice of life". Nowadays it's often unduly overlooked or just as likely never even heard of by newer anime fans, but back in the early 2000s it was a huge hit. It basically singlehandedly normalized the idea of "anime about schoolgirls just vibing" and paved the way for KyoAni shows like K-ON!. Even now that "schoolgirls just vibing" is a staple of anime, most concur that Azumanga still holds up as a classic. If there's any downside to Azumanga, though, it's that a number of the references will go over your head. But, like, if that didn't bother you with Lucky Star then it probably won't bother you in Azumanga. In fact I'd argue that Azumanga uses reference humor considerably better than Lucky Star. A final random fact about Azumanga is that the word "waifu" started out as an Azumanga reference, before that word took on a life of its own. So even if you've never heard of Azumanga you've at least probably heard its contribution to English net-slang. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ There's not much to say about YuruYuri. I just think it's literally the funniest crap I've ever dun seen in my life, and most reviews seem to concur. It's broadly a popular slice of life with many dedicated fans.
Personally, I feel like I'm in the minority of people who kind of enjoy all the anime references I don't get. Maybe it's just because I almost always just chose to watch meme videos, clips, or random discussions over sitting down and just watching a show properly. Seeing people talking about something I don't get is kind of the norm for me. What can I say? I like doing multiple things at the same time, so I'd usually just browse youtube while playing a game. Maybe it's undiagnosed ADHD, I don't really care at the moment. I really can't explain why, but I still have this pathological aversion to watching anime dubbed. I don't know if it's just because I know how these characters are supposed to sound, and hearing them be different feels out of place. In that case maybe I should try watching a show first in dubbed to see if I feel the same way the other way around afterwards. Partially, it's some form of warped peer pressure and pride that kind of makes me feel like it's the "right way" to watch, which is silly because the real intended way to watch is to know Japanese, and know all of the cultural references they make throughout, both of which I fail at spectacularly. Kind of makes me wonder how the show is for people in Japan. Does it sound like they're just waffling on about obvious cultural things for the whole show? Overall, I'm glad I watched subbed when I hear Kagami's english voice, and that they apparently say "stinky" a lot. Also, not sure if you do the same thing, but when you started talking about the microwave thing, I kept chiming in with my own experience, and what I do in the situations mentioned. It really plays into what you said about feeling like you're having a conversation with these characters. A lot of the time, I'd say something, and one of the girls will say the exact same thing seconds later, and that was always really fun to see.
This show is the total opposite of Eliot Goes to School by kitty0706 without being inspired or despised by it. How odd both existed in similar time frames.
7:39 Did you think about what you said here? "It has less going on than every other show I've ever seen combined" says absolutely nothing, because every other show you've ever seen combined would have a ton going on, so of course a single show would have less going on. I know what you were trying to say of course, but the usage of the word 'combined' doesn't work. Just an error in the script I noticed.
@@Totaraum Maybe I didn't get to the good parts yet. But I think, I remember, I didn't like when it got some kind of plot after some episodes. I'll see how long I'll keep watching this time.
One of my favourite series, currently I'm rewatching it for the second time in not even half year. For me one downside are the continuous references to harui, too much of them in my opinion 🤣
ufotable would make Lucky Star better than how Kyoto Animation made the anime an advertising product of its time. ufotable can follow the manga to make the anime great in a possible reboot since the manga is coming back. It worked for Sailor Moon Crystal.
we need another show like lucky star. nothings been able to replicate the hanging out with friends small talk, comedy, and references to okatu culture that the show captivated me for 24 episodes. love your microwave sequence lol but im more on the general side of lucky star fans. the only thing that i would say im different from most people is i could not stand lucky channel. i didnt find it interesting and it felt like a section that focused way too much on the side characters, like an overlord arc, when i just wanted it to get back to the main four girls.
Lucky Star seems like lightning in a bottle for me. So many slice of life shows have tried to capture the same feel but miss the mark in some form or another. It's interesting that you disliked lucky channel, most people I've talked to see it as a highlight of the show. I guess if the humor missed the mark there isn't much else to it. I'm glad you liked the microwave bit! I tried to get it as close to the style of the show as possible
@@Totaraum im surprised at how many people praise lucky channel highly, even calling it the best part. i feel like people are heavily underestimating how important konata is, until they skip all the parts with her. the difference in character favorites on mal might just show that theyre just a minority.

Proof that Lucky Star is timeless lol. I feel the same about it feeling fresh and nostalgic. We probably don't remember the topics of all the frivolous conversations we've had with our friends, but we do remember having fun so it probably transfers over
THE MICROWAVE THING WAS GOOD!!! That's exactly how lucky star would have done it. you are a true fan
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Kagami is a mood. 10/10
Also youre spot on how konata isnt just pandering to otaku/ mmo fandom, she comes off as quirky kind of strange with them, very good character writing
I've always thought it says a lot about Lucky Star that even though it was aimed at adult men, a huge portion of the audience (at least in the west) ended up being teenage girls.
well said, I think it's one of those shows that can appeal to anyone so long as they like the genre
I’m glad I could help you on your way, you have a great day too!
It's so good
This is my favorite anime of all time.
i was in middle school and already a full-on anime nerd when this show came out, the cute art style and fun music immediately had me hooked. the appeal can be hard to explain but lucky star just hits different, it's the one of the comfiest shows i can think of. they're literally just hangin out doing whatever and it's just adorable and calming to watch
finding a good subtitle is the hardest part
2:48 I can agree this it the best one of them all I love the initial D reference. Btw that "yellow car" is a Mazda RX-7 FD
Haha I trust that you of all people would know that
the rx7 fc is better actually no i take that back i think it would of been hella cool if it was a r30 speeding down the mountain rather then the fd
The opening is a BANGER

Found this like 4 months ago finally finished Lucky Star 2 after watching it for 2 months and watching this video, why in the actual heck does this video only get this much views
I find it weird that I like this show so much, I would easily say its one of if not my favourites even though i only started watching anime a couple years back, similar to you. I would probably agree with what you said, it being to do with the relatability, however, I would also say the humor works quite well for me. Also have you seen the ova, its phenominal.
Not yet, as I couldn't find it dubbed. It's on my "I need to watch" list though
Lucky Star's self-awareness is my favorite part of the show.
Lucky star is love, lucky star is life, lucky star is the very definition of slice of life and will all ways be a show that I hold dear.
Amen
i know im years late to finishing the anime, but i really love lucky star. i first watched it when i was 6 or 7 on the animax channel on my grandfathers tv and i totally forgot about it until i found a clip of konata in a meme somewhere around 2020. thats where i got the most time on my hands and decided to finish the anime and i love it ever since then
I think this video touches on one of my favorite aspects of anime; the shows that speak to the individual.

“That was some fancy clicking, but those engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever. Otherwise, *You’re pretty good.* “
That Revolver Ocelot quote was actually out of nowhere.
I like the dub because someone just uploaded the entire show on TH-cam
That’s how I first watched it lol
Great video, I loved the bits where you parodied segments of the show :p
Even though its such a low-stakes show, lucky star might be my favorite anime of all time for how genuine it is. There’s something very comforting about just listening to everyday conversation. I also think the visuals are very appealing and I love how smooth and consistently on-model everything is animated. Even though I know it’ll probably never happen, I’m still hoping for a season 2, ;w;
Also interestingly, this year an official German dub of Lucky Star came out.
Thank you for the kind words! You hit the nail on the head, it's such a comfy show
08:54 sounds just like lucky star!
Awesome, I’m happy to hear you think so! That’s what I was going for
lucky star really is such a great show! it was one of my first animes ever (i think even THE first? but i cant verify rip), i watched the dub when i was like 8 yrs old on youtube lol. i didnt understand ANY references (still dont understand them actually, im not a huge anime watcher lol) and most of the jokes flew right over my head, but i still for some reason adored it for what it was.
it impacted me ALOT at the time, it solidified my love of slice of life stuff at a young age, it really REALLY inspired me artistically at the time in ways i still notice in my work today, etc etc. sometimes i wonder how different i'd be if i ended up watching a different anime instead lol
AND OH MY GOD FOR REAL ABOUT THE MUSIC!!!! holy hell dude its a CRIME how good kanatas theme is !!!! i genuinely get emotional listening to it sometimes lol, it just GETS me for some reason. the theme song, hell even just the BACKGROUND MUSIC is in my playlists!
oh and hey another dub watcher!! it really is SO GREAT ahhh!!!! its probably cause it was the one i watched when i was a kid and reading subs is annoying (+ i watch it almost exclusively while i draw), and maybe cause im kinda into western cartoons & VAs, but its just what i prefer now lolol.
That really slick reference to the best part of Thursdays.
I’m glad somebody caught that lmao
This show is absolutely amazing, so amazing that I somehow managed to watched 4 episodes of it RAW completely unsubbed despite not know any Japanese at all (for context I had a few episodes downloaded but I had forgotten to download the subs and my internet was out) I just continued to watch in a trance until I realised shit it's been like 2 hours. 10/10 show, rewatched it like 5 times already.
I just like the show because its a one of a one-of-a-kind show. Hack the 1st episode is about what end of Cornet would you start with which is just funny and bizarre.
Singing at the end was great.
YES!
@@Totaraum Ah, i remember that, shiraishi is probably pretty stinky, well ill let you know when i find out XD
@@konakona420 Please do!
You hit the nail on the head. Friends do stuff like this all the time, which is why I did the bit with the metal gear reference in the video
@@Totaraum I also caught the subtle "out of touch, out of time" reference... nice👍

Main reason I'm commenting is to FULLY agree with you about the overwhelming urge for some of these shows to constantly relate everything to a video game or anime. I'm reading the Rewirite VN right now and they do this shit all the time and I. HATE. IT.

Not seeing this video until it had been out for a week got me to click the bell button on this channel.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
There's not much to say about YuruYuri. I just think it's literally the funniest crap I've ever dun seen in my life, and most reviews seem to concur. It's broadly a popular slice of life with many dedicated fans.
@@ashlaskash oh wow, Azumanga sounds like a big deal if it created the most widely used word in the anime community. I’ll keep both of these in mind!

I’m glad you think so
I remember liking the beginning, but the show got boring after a few episodes.
I just rewatched the first few minutes, and they are great.
Interesting, usually it’s the other way around. The first three episodes are looked down upon while the rest of the show is often praised
That’s totally fair. I was cool with it because it was one of the few references I understood lmao
@@Totaraum I watched a fansub for my language that had written annotations of all the references
@@feafox1645 I definitely could've used something like that while I was watching
@@Totaraum that helps a lot and makes you enjoy more each episode
The dad makes it odd to watch but it's a great show
Ah, I know what you mean. Some of that didn't age well
i fucking love kagami
love ur vids bro
Thank you!
Wait, Isant lucky star like a super beloved series?
Yeah
ufotable would make Lucky Star better than how Kyoto Animation made the anime an advertising product of its time. ufotable can follow the manga to make the anime great in a possible reboot since the manga is coming back. It worked for Sailor Moon Crystal.
i feel this. i didn't think it was very funny. i hadn't even seen haruhi so i couldn't understand over 90% of references. but idk. it comfy.
hell yeah
we need another show like lucky star. nothings been able to replicate the hanging out with friends small talk, comedy, and references to okatu culture that the show captivated me for 24 episodes.
love your microwave sequence lol but im more on the general side of lucky star fans. the only thing that i would say im different from most people is i could not stand lucky channel. i didnt find it interesting and it felt like a section that focused way too much on the side characters, like an overlord arc, when i just wanted it to get back to the main four girls.
@@strollas I think lucky channel is less about the characters and more about the writing. It offers a different kind of entertainment than the regular show
I have fallen in love with konata miyuki kagami and tsukasa they are my anime crushes but moslty konata
I love lucky star and i still dont know why, probably cause its kyoani
also yes, i have a strange story with this one too, though not as good as my endless 8
Its weird how much these videos put to words exactly how i feel
I try my best lol. If you’ve got another story I’d love to hear it!
@@Totaraum So, Lucky Star was technically the most painful anime to watch.
Not because of me not liking the show (I love the show) but because konnata made me realize 2 things.
Im a full blown weeb and cant go back.
And i miss the days of playing MMOs with my friends.
Pretty much as a kid i was a lot like konnata and just played mmos for days on end with my brother.
Honestly This and Nichijou where the only two shows where i saw the characters as like friends ina weird way.
There i too was super sad when i realized there wasnt another episode
@@chJohnJobs ah, I totally get that. I try to always remember that you can still have fun like when you were younger even if you don’t have as much time anymore
Have you watched the OVA
If you like this show you should watch The Daily Lives of High School Boys.
I’ve never heard of that one before. I’ll give it a look!
Have you heard about the manga’s return?
I have! I’ll probably read it one day. Not sure if there’s an English translation or not
I'm not sure either, but either way it's pretty ding-dang cool!
@@-throat- It is! It seems like a lot of the source material for kyoani shows has continues after hiatus in recent years (haruhi, nichijou, hyouka, etc.)
