For more info on adjusting your 4 wheeled walker brakes check out our video How To Easily Adjust 4 Wheeled Walker Brakes (In Your Kitchen) th-cam.com/video/R7ThasM57jg/w-d-xo.html
Hey I enjoyed this I reminded me to call medi stop and tell him I'm bringing him my walker for repair... I have a loner and I don't like it I want my Walker back but I'm thankful that I have the neighborhood let me a spare. I love MY Walker though but the wheels kept sticking and finally one fell off so yeah. Having the right Walker is crucial 😌💕 thank you for putting out these videos of yours I really enjoy them and it's very informative! 😁 YAY
I take my rollator to the hospital store I got it from and they will adjust the brakes for me for free. 👍
@@F_L_A_Birdl”😅 😅
This video just makes me think.. when Bob and Brad retire one day, their videos will continue to educate far into the future.. and by sheer numbers, they will continue to be the two most famous physical therapists on the internet..
🤩
Some day they just might need one!😎
Here in Sweden 🇸🇪 I believe most elderly have two walkers, one for outdoor purpose (longer walks, sturdy walker with brakes, a seat and basket) and one for indoors (with a stand for your coffee tray, and brakes of course). My dad definitely had two, granny on the other hand had only canes because it was prior to 1978).
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this informative video! I had lumbar fusion/decompression 4 months ago. Walking and PT are helping my recovery at 74 yrs old. There’s NO way I could walk very far without my rollator walker. My legs get achy and I’ve got to sit down! I use it outside and around the house, even hauling laundry around on the seat. Last week I was at a wedding with it and heard a comment about ‘ that lady booking with the walker’ haha. I can move pretty fast with it. Brad is right about selecting tables in restaurants though, where you can park it. And also, at 5’ , I have a little trouble getting it in/ out of my jeep by myself. But, this is an extremely useful tool for me right now.
A visiting PT set my mom up w her rollator. A big help. Then he adjusted it for her. Critical info: Lock the breaks before trying to sit. Also, folks w difficulty sitting and standing or w cognitive issues should not use a rollator unassisted. For exercise, using it on a carpet is safer, as the pile slows down the wheels. Hardwood floors or linoleum are fast surfaces. Use w caution. Thanks, guys, for your wonderful help! (“Hi, Bob!”) 😉
p.s. Check w your local senior citizens’ center. Many have free medical equipment (donated by others) available for those in need.
This is a very important point you make: put the brakes on before sitting on the walker. 2x in this video Brad sits on the walker and hasn't put the brakes on! I came to the comment section specifically to write this because it is so dangerous that by example he did it wrong and that it wasn't verbally covered.
Thanks!
Yes, I had a hard fall because I didn’t set the brakes. I stood and when I pushed down to stand it pushed my rollator backwards away from me and down I went: landed on my buttocks (the cushion helped), my head bounced off the floor and I broke a toe. Multiple bruises. Lesson learner.
I am surprised the video doesn’t mention that a wheeled walker with a seat is NOT a wheelchair, unless specifically designed to be one, which only a few are. Most walkers have a relatively high center of gravity and can tip over easily if pushed as a wheelchair. I have personally seen this happen twice on the sidewalks of Boston!
Good point.
My mother, kept using it as a wheelchair and fell a couple of times.
You are correct, that should've been covered.
Love you guy's, great information and fantastic videos thank you!
Thanks for watching!
This category is ripe for the kind of industrial design that high-end e-bikes currently enjoy. Run those cables inside, taper the cushioned tubing, color-match the wheels, make these things POP!
Loving my Drive walker for my 12 level Spinal Fusion! I’m not tall but my Drive adjusts to a tall which helps keep me from fatigue and keeps me straight when it sets in.❤❤❤
Love to all!
That's great!
Great presentation gentlemen, very informative. Keep up the good work
Thank you for the great video. I bought an up-right walker which is great, but I didn't realize how top heavy it would be and has a tendency to fall forward if it hits a pebble or rock. I've learned to adapt, but you may want to mention this in future videos. Thanks again for your awesome advice!
Thanks for sharing!
I have one that I bought from Amazon. And I really like it. I do love that he said the height should come up to the crease in your wrist, so I’ll check it to make sure it’s at the best height for me.
Let's hope so!
When my Mom got a walker, my sister and I pimped it out for her. We used handlebar streamers, a bell, a little rearview mirror, and a basket. She loved it!
Cute! Bells are great.
Awesome
Great tips guys.I was a nurse.Now retired. Good advise.Thanks.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you showed where the handles should be. I seem to be bending over to use mine. I’m going to go look at the other videos you have on this.
Be careful if you sit down and get up. I got up really fast, and didn’t remember there’s a wheel sticking out. I gotta quickly, turn to the right, and tripped over it and really hurt myself.
Our pleasure!
Excellent presentation and advice 👏👏👍👍😊
Glad you liked it!
I had Polio as a toddler and I do not have use of one arm -- Comodita' makes a walker designed for one-handed use - the Avanti - no seat available though, because that shifts the center of gravity and makes it more difficult to operate one-handed.
Thank you two so much for the very helpful information. I need one of these now to use while I am waiting to have my second total knee replacement.
No problem!
Thanks ror your video
I have one and dont use it enough
Very informative on how you alter the handle position 😊
I have been using rollators for years. Seat comfort is important! If yours is comfortable or hard as a rock, Amazon now sells cushions that you can add to the rollator. It makes a huge difference. I find rollators that come with a basket that fits below the front of the seat makes it easier to haul things or to shop. Pouches do offer more security though. I prefer rollators that have a firm seat over ones that are just a strap. I use my rollator to haul all sorts of stuff around . Firm seat makes hauling things much easier. The rollators with a strap seat may be much lighter, which is important if you will getting in and out of a vehicle . I am over 80 and have bad shoulders but usually can get my heavier rollator in my SUV. I find I am not very comfortable on a strap type seat. I only use it when I am having problems lifting or am making frequent stops. It takes up much less space in the trunk, which is handy when shopping.
Thanks for sharing
My rollator doesn't stay folded. So I bought long silicone twists (they look like braided red licorice and are sold at Harbor Freight). I just wrap it around. Helps me when I fly/travel. Another useful thing were elasticated loop ties. Having a seat is a lifesaver especially in Japan where I had to walk a lot and in the Cairns, Australia airport. Virgin Australia was 1 hour 30 minutes late boarding and there were zero seats at the boarding gate which was a 10 minute walk away from the nearest toilet/seating!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
You guys think of everything❤
We try!
I mentioned to a friend, who, herself has a walker, that I was looking for a walker, for "just in case." Sometimes I'm a little unsteady! 😅 That friend picked up one like hers for me (without me asking). I used it a couple of times but found it way too heavy for me. It served to make me exhausted! This video will help me get a better one for me. 😊
Glad we could help!
As a 78 year old widow, the weight of the rollator is most important to me. I have to be able to pick up and take out of my SUV. I go to the “Y” 5 days a week for Water Arobics for the past 5 years. Worn the wheels off the first rollator because of metal fatigue from be around chlorinated water, then I bought what I felt was a sturdier version. But it weighed 26 lbs, after a about 2 years, it became to hard to pick up. Bought a lighter version, 16 lbs. it seems the lighter the rollator the more it cost. I willingly will replace when needed. Never used Medicare to purchase, my understanding is they have some conditions on what and how often the rollator will be replace.
Thank you for sharing this video. Wish i had known how to do this years ago when my mom was using a walker. I did go to the video showing how to adjust the brakes. It is very useful to know. Thank you.
BTW, I love the Bob & Brad t-shirt you were wearing in the video! DO YOU ALL STILL SELL THESE?
We do sell them! Here's the link if you want to check it out.

👩🦼 Great video idea! I would love to see a similar video for wheelchairs-I need one for a petite person and I don’t know where to start looking.
We'll add it to our to-do list!
Hey Doctor! Great video there. Can I take collagen supplement without a doctor's prescription for my knee health?
Can you make a video on how to chose a knee scooter? Thanks.
thank u.
You're welcome!
Could you add evaluation of 3 wheel rollators to your presentation?
I’ve used a 4wheeler for about a year. Love it for the seat, which I use for sitting as well as for transporting things about the house.
However, I find it heavy and unwieldy for getting in and out of my SUV.
Just got a 3 wheeler which is lighter weight and easily folds for storage behind driver’s seat.
Downside is it seems more tipsy.
Seat area is smaller .
You're a good son, Brad!❤
Thanks!
Good to know info!!! 🌝⚘
😊
Some models have adjustable seat height for shorter folks. I have one by Medline. Much safer for me. If the seat is too high and you try to sit on it, it still may roll from under you even with the brakes on.
That's great!
Good info…. ❤❤❤😊
Glad you think so!
I needed to use my moms rolalater sitting my feet did not reach floor and the height adjustments I max out but could have used a bit more. Wished you addressed that issue. Luckily I only needed it for a couple days. I am 5'8" and stand full height
Sorry about that!
How do you go up or down stairs with a four wheel rollator, that are in the front and in the back.
My mother in law uses a regular walker constantly as she falls frequently. She is 92. The problem is that she has a very narrow walker (the narrowest they come in) because of the width of her doorways. Those are no doubt too large if you have a home with much smaller doorways.
Someone that age and with frequent falls would likely not benefit from a 4 wheeled walker which might actually make her less safe from falling. A regular walker or one with front wheels only would be more stable.
That's too bad!
😅 The best thing I love about your videos is your SONG
Definitely the best song I had ever Heard of
Bob and Brad the two most famous....😅
We're happy to hear that!
I had a injury to my back and got one through my insurance.
I was waiting to see how high while standing I'm 5/10 ty.
What about weight to lift up and put in car .I only weight 98 pounds
Rollators with the strap type seat are might liter and take up less space. MIT makes a huge difference. Try sitting on it before buying. I am quite large and I find this type difficult to sit on for long periods, but that might not bother you.
People walk more upright with The walkers with fold up seats
Thanks for sharing
Lightest walker please?
Probably a folding walker like one like this: amzn.to/3WUP4rx
How to avoid needing a walker when you get old would be a great topic
Leg exercises at the gym? A 100 year old walking daily some 2 kilometers/miles with her walker said that once you lose your leg strength, you're done with.
Seek out a geriatric certified physical therapist for an evaluation of strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance and for advice on exercise to promote better aging.
We can add it to our to-do list
I get this Walker tomorrow for free from danish healthservice
Good to hear!
5/7/24
Thanks for watching!
I feel like we’re holding Mike up from the golf course 😂
😂
I love my Drive Nitro. I can fold it up, and it stays together until I push the seat down. Much easier getting it in and out of the car.
That's good!
👍👍👍👍👍
😊
“Under $200”. Well I suppose a Medline at $70 is under $200. Personally I have a Lumex walkabout at $180. Medicaid paid for it all. I have SLE and diabetes, but probably can have enough strength and balance to fold it and take it one floor to my basement. Thanks for the video.
There all too heavy good ones?…my Back ooch
The VA gave my mom a Drive Nitro of some sort and the booklet or PDF say not to move while seated in the Rollator? Like huh? The whole purpose I thought was if she got tired a caregiver or I could move her when she's tuckered out! Obviously she can't just push herself around with her feet!
Is this another instance of avoiding lawsuits like with cottonswabs going in the ear? The Rollator can withstand 300lbs but not me going over some little bumps or cracks? Cmon now.
All those walkers that I see people using make them look like they're walk with a hunchback they look like they're too short they should be taller
It's disappointing that physical therapists did not stress that this type of walker is not good for many people. The best idea is to have an evaluation by a physical therapist (geriatric specialist preferred) of the person's strength and balance to determine which device (from a variety of canes and walkers) is best, to properly fit it to that person, and instruct in its proper use. A person with poor balance is not going to benefit from having 4 highly moveable wheels under them!
Great point!
Sorry you feel that way!
