I started learning Linux on Zorin, then I decided to try Mint, for its MATE desktop. The MATE desktop wins. Thanks and a big round of applauds goes out to Artyom Zorin and his team for all their hard work. However, I can't help but believe Mint MATE Edition is clearly the logical step in the journey into the wonderful world of a Non-Microsoft-based personal computing.
I personally don't prefer Ubuntu based distros but zorin os is a new linux user's paradise. Simple, beautiful and windows/macOS friendly stuff. Great video!
You can use ffmpeg to convert between webm and mp4. Just enter into a terminal (ffmpeg is preinstalled on most Linux distros): ffmpeg -i input.webm output.mp4 This converts the file input.webm in the current directory to a new file called output.mp4. If output.mp4 already exists, it will show a warning and ask if you'd like to continue. I hope this helps! Edit: I made a mistake in the command; it has been fixed.
I'm a fan and the new version is looking good. Still missing any killer Apps. And I miss my Mac productivity and creative Apps. If it could offer me something equivalent, I'd use it more.
How is the battery life on Laptops for Zorin OS? I had heard batterylife in general for linux was very low on Linux compared to Windows, Has it improved now?
I like Zorin 17. I installed it on a Surface Pro 4, but after 4 days and a couple of updates the performance drop drastically where it became unusable. I had to go back to Ubuntu 24.04. Yes I know they are in dev. I will purchase the pro version when it gets released.
It's insane to me that they couldn't do fully rounded window corners consistently despite all this work... Also the try to hype the coverflow alt tab extension that litterally anyone could install in seconds...
I agree. Most of the features mentioned on their release page are gnome specific features with an overhaul... But again they do have some custom designed GUI apps which might be helpful for newcomers.
ZorinOS was invaluable as a switcher from Windows back in February. For many it will be all they ever need. For me I rapidly outgrew it and after trying a couple others landed on Fedora. I've been happy with that since. I am likely going to give VanillaOS a test run when 2.0 releases as it builds on many technologies I rely on a lot and seems to have a good dev team. BTW, any chance you can examine Chinese focused distros? I am looking for options to switch my wife over. Especially useful would be distros that permit quick access to switching UI and settings to English since I need to be able to provide support. Also any distros being built outside of China proper would be useful for reasons of security/trust...
Oh it's my favourite person again! Fedora is my favourite too mate. I use it daily. I will definitely try to make a video on that. Thank you so much for watching!
The glitching you mentioned part way through your video is because you are using a beta version which you fail to mention. This should have also been mentioned in you title and discription. Apart from that a good video.
Wish google invest in it. I literally want a mainstream desktop operating system from google. Chromeos isn't a thing because it is for low end devices. I need a full fledged windows or macos alternative. Mac is expensive, windows is just not consistent. But I see linux has potential and Zorin OS even more. If worked on it, Zorin OS can easily compete with windows or macos. As it a linux and developers are ready to work for linux. The thing is people will still consider it as a just another distro even myself. To make it mainstream it needs to directly have features that match with it's competition. It lacks a lot of features, and needs a lot of investment but if done it could be a great operating system. I want google to invest in it because they already have android and chromeos so, it won't be big challange to create an ecosystem for them.

It's a beautiful OS. I love it too!
What do you mean ? Ubuntu 24.04 has not been released yet.

@@ArcTechnologies And thank you for your committment to improving your work, I can see a bright future for this channel.
Won't disappoint you! I love doing this.
Why did you outgrow it? I do think too that this would be my stepping stone to the Linux world..
Its so sad that Gnome doesn’t allow the Zorin start menu on all screens. It’s so annoying.

I did mention in the video that this is still in beta
Does it caused any issues?
1:27 that is just default GNOME behaviour
Yeah most of it is actually default gnome stuff.
Very good review
Glad you enjoyed it
