I was hoping they would release version 18 based on Ubuntu 24.04 while I was testing it so I can live through the update procedure. Unfortunately it’s not out yet.
Zorin is awesome. Exactly what people who comes from Windows need. double click to install and no messing with the terminal. As for your Windows software, Lutris helps to run third party Windows software to run on Zorin. Try it to make your Windows software work. When that will work flawlessly in the future, it is bye bye Windows.
Good review. I was curious how you landed on the 17.2 silent review, and found this 17.1 video in your backlog. Enjoying your Channel. Wishing you the best from a tiny rock, smack in in the middle of a VERY large pond.
Thank you for your review. While I'm an advanced user of Linux (20+ years), I like their approach: it gets out of your way. Switching appearances is quick and easy, and consistent. Conversely, with the Plasma desktop, you mimic the look of other OSes but it involves knowledge and time. Why bother when Zorin does it so well? The appearance options also speed adaptation and make switching back and forth between Linux and Windows easier. Sometimes I've forgotten which OS I was using! I have two minor criticisms. in their software manager, a program often has several package options. It's unclear if the packages differ in functionality and whether the developers officially support them. Even a brief explanation of why you might want one package format over another. I know that one of them is that a Flatpak is often newer than official one in the repositories. But novice users won't know. I have another annoyance: I can't access non-graphical terminals using key combos. While beginners wouldn't care, ttys can do a graceful reboot when the graphical interface is frozen. Perhaps the Zorin OS developers are worried that novices users might accidentally trigger it and be lost. I liked elementary OS for its simplistic desktop look (it resembles Mac OS), too, but it's too commercialized. In their software store, some normally-free apps cost money. I don't mind paying for Linux apps but not for the basics. And $5 to install deb files graphically is a bit much when every other distro has it baked in. I'm going to buy Zorin Pro to get the Windows 11 "look" and I want to support their development. You should, too, even if you don't the extra features. Linux needs more professional developers to maintain and produce more quality software if it's to compete with other OSes. I love Linux. And I love Zorin.
With stable distributions (I mean non-rolling) I tend to go for the flatpak or snap versions of software, depending on which one is officially maintained by the software developer him/her self. Unfortunately the “store” does little to help me with that so I have to visit flathub and snapcrafters webpage beforehand. This is not a complaint about Zorin, but generally about both the gnome software center and kde discover and other “stores” like in Elementary and Pop! Neither quite tells me which version I should pick.
Hello: First of all I congratulate you for your excellent video, accurate and concise. I fully agree with you, Zorin Os is an ideal distribution, not only for newcomers but for all those who don't want to complicate their life. For a basic user, who does not require very specialized programs, it fully covers the needs of everyday life. Apart from the above, it is a delight to the eye as it is one of the most beautiful distributions in existence. Greetings and success.
I am a long-time Windows user, and have some Mac & Android experience. I have had a few goes at using Linux, but not got very far. I have got as far seeing a bit of how it works, but as far as any practical use, I have just gone back to something I know. I have come across many explanations of getting started with Linux and to me they tend to look like the following, where: - ?? means words that I have a little understanding of, - ???? words that I have no idea of meaning. "Well, it's really easy. You just get a ?? and a ?? and there you go, and it is all working. You can use ?? or ?? or even ??, it depends what you prefer. If it does wrong all you have to do is check ???? and that ???? is in????. If not go to ?? and ????" I am now going to have another go.
My honest advice is don’t complicate it. Zorin is good. And be aware that Linux is not Windows, therefore it can’t be the same as what you know. You are going to have to learn something, but it doesn’t have to be the terminal. Learn the difference between three popular app install package formats instead: - system package: deb/apt - Flatpak - Snap All three are available through Zorin “App Store” but some apps will offer you multiple version of packaging formats.
I would like to see creatives and such be prompted to use these operating systems and rate their experience. People who are used to using Win11 o Mac with Adobe Suites and such, you know?
It is for Zorin Pro (paid version) but honestly there isn’t much difference unless you really want all the visual themes. I like the default theme the most (the free one).
Your videos are getting smoother and better! Love it! Keep posting. 👊❤️
Thank you very much! 🫶🏻
I have been using Zorin 16 since it was released, and as you say, it just works. Guess I should upgrade to 17 soon...

@@LinuxRenaissance Not too soon, though! I want to get the Pro edition and get it supported as long as possible!

What did you mean by "silent"? You mean that I made a video long after 17.2 was released?
Thank you very much for nice wishes!
@@LinuxRenaissance Your video on Zorin Pro 17.2 was recorded without narration due to illness, thus you were silent. :)
@ I am so stupid sometimes 🫣

That's why I like it. It makes life simpler. And that helps with less stress and my ADHD. I don't need to be distracted by tonnes of choices.

So is this vid for the free or paid for zorin ??.
