Yes, this 👍🏼. If we want desktop Linux to be more successful we have to be willing to invest in it and the people spending their time developing it. At the end of the day, any money we can contribute to Linux is still going to be less than a Windows or Mac license/hardware tax. Hello: Very good video. Zorin Os 17 Pro looks and feels great. The focus it has is for professional but it is also multipurpose, so it is within reach of any novice. It is a good way to fund the project. I agree with you that they could reward the most loyal supporters by giving them a discount if they already have the previous Pro version. Have a Happy New Year 2024. Many congratulations.
I got a previous pro version for $39, and I figured it was fine because I considered it as support for the developers, and not necessarily price for the value of an upgrade. I actually ended up paying more since tax was not included. I see now that the $48 figure now includes tax.
Interesting, do you think it would be good for a small portion of that $48 to go to the projects that make Zorin possible like Gnome, KDE Connect, Ubuntu, etc?
Happy new year! I agree, it's beautiful. Will be interesting to see how it performs with rendering, gaming and other tasks. I'll do a follow-up once I've put it through some pain
Thanks for the video. 48$US is way too steep. Btw you can make the free version (Lite) looks like the PRO with simple tweaking. They use gnome extensions which are free. The Pro version supports the developers though. It's not meant to really be anything other than that as Zorin OS is completely free as you mentioned. When you pay for Pro, they make it a little easier out of the box by including all of that software.

I chose Zorin Pro because a TH-cam review showed the install was easy, I wanted the pre installed curated software and I wanted to support the Zorin team. I wanted something that I could use immediately and then gradually learn about the Linux world. It worked out better than expected. I stopped dual booting within a couple of weeks - and that was just to copy files over - not to use any apps. Zorin made the switch from windows smooth and quick. I left windows because of the increasing amount of ads, background processes and pop ups.
I have no issues with pro versions like Zorin does it, not really needed for a good experience just some extra stuff to support the devs. Once the actual paywalling starts however like if they limited updates to free users I would bail.
Just about to install Zorin OS Pro right now. $48 is steep seeing as you can get a Windows 11 OEM License for about $30-$40. I would assume that if they dropped the price more people might be able to justify the cost and rather it go to Open Source communities like you said rather than to M$.
