jolllyroger1 is right, the friction of the rope on the shaft of the shackle can unscrew it, you may want to use a security shackle with a nut and a cuterpin
If Paul ever redesigns the HH for use with a locking shackle it would put it back on top of the crowd of climbing devices. Even a shackle with locking slic pins similar to what are used on the Rope Runner would be fantastic. If the shackle is tightened with a wrench (similar to the 4" wrench I adjust the Rope Runner with) and in the orientation that I point out in the video, I cannot imagine it coming open.
True. Ive seen a shackle comming out open with a twist on a sling on a 85t crane lift (not tree related lol) nothing bad happenned but we got scared bad haha
My shackle grabs the climb line way too hard. The curve in the carabiner does a much better job of releasing. However, without a band on the side of the carabiner, it is very susceptible to side loading/binding up dangerously in the main body of the device.
Hey Derrick, I did drill a hole in a non structural part of the spline. Enjoy the magnet, it takes some time to get the techniques and learn how to manage the line in the tree but it is fun.
Yes, somehow I messed up the sound, the video was a little long anyway.
Thanks.
excellent the audio was off but I totally got what your showing us viewers .

Cool idea, thanks for sharing! Where did you buy those shackles?
TreesR4traction Even better, you're going to like the HitchHikerX coming out mid June with a SlicPin shakle.
Richard Mumford cool! Haven't heard of that yet, hopefully I can get just the shackle to go on my HH2.
Ok so that shackle is dangerous because the rope can Unscrew it please do a shackle with a locking pin
