    Fun fact ! The giant wings starting to flap when the plane went too fast is a real phenomenon that happens to real wings of real planes when exceding the speeds they're designed for, and it can actually completely destroy the whole thing, it's called flutter, and you can find videos with exapmples of it on TH-cam

      Also, supersonic jet wings are made to be a bit flexible in order to allow them to do that, because it's mch better to let the wing flutter a bit rather than have it be very stiff and snap.

    The reason it would take off well is because on the ground it’s sitting at a neutral angle of attack meaning the plane wouldn’t want to take off very easily. On real planes you usually have a slight positive angle of attack meaning it will take off a little easier. Although I have no idea if this game works this way.

    • @The_GG_Janitor

      The physics are surprisingly realistic in trailmakers, excluding the destruction and the basic aerodynamic properties of each piece

    • @The_GG_Janitor
      @The_GG_Janitor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      But the slightly more advanced aero/hydrodynamics are pretty good for a vehicle creation/exploration game. I recommend ScrapMan, he's the equivalent to RCE and "the strongest shape" when it comes to trailmakers and another game called "Scrap Mechanic"

    • @TheBaldrickk
      @TheBaldrickk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      you don't _need_ a positive angle of attack when on the tarmac... you just need some way to attain it. Which is why most planes don't have ground contact right at the back. This allows them to push the tail down, pivoting around their wheels.
      Well, unless you go back to ~WWI and the tail draggers of the time, which did indeed use positive angle of attack at all times on the ground.
      He could have done this by just lowering the front skids a bit...

    • @wolf310ii

    Not sure you read comments on videos this old, but another issue I've not seen pointed out is that your tailplane "makes the plane tilt up" not by raising the front but by pushing the back down. That's why it works fine in the air even at lower speeds, but does f-all getting you off the ground even at ridiculously high speeds--you probably were getting enough lift but the tailplane just couldn't push your back end into the ground.

    I am a fan of your videos. I don't play these games, but I do have an idea why your planes seem to get slower with more engines. The amount of force each engine adds to the forward motion of your vehicles is impressive at first, but becomes less of an effect as the weight of the plane gets heavier. Literally, your engines go from speeding up your plane to being too heavy and slowing it down. It's crazy.
    Also, the aerodynamics in this game are hilarious.

But you keep eliminating the drag from the wings, flaps, and aelerons so the plane doesn't turn or generate lift when you want it to. Drag is an essential part of aircraft design. In real life and in game the more blunt side of the wing would be in the front and sharp in back. This allows the air to fill in the gaps at the back without creating a pressure difference.

  • @Chris-wy3ok

    part of the problem with the takeoffs is when you have the only control at the very back of the plane. Pulling up doesn't push the front of the plane up, but pushes the back of the plane downwards so when you're flat against the ground it just pushes the back of the plane into the ground and doesn't actually change your angle at all

    Here is a tip to pull up easier: try to have the ass of the place a bit off the ground so that it can actually pivot/rotate and pull the nose up. When u just have ur rear wings acting like spoilers and creating downforce, you wont move the tail down due to the ground being in the way. so try to have a gap between the rear of the plane and the ground for it to pivot.

  • @3DPDK
    @3DPDK 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another Fun Fact: It's physically impossible for a propeller to go faster than the speed of sound. It has to do with the shock wave that develops in front of the propeller. As it develops into the typical delta shape, the efficiency of the blades of the prop drops off dramatically and looses thrust. The prop can simply never get out in front of the shock wave. On the other hand, the shockwave forms inside the intake of a jet engine making it more efficient at compressing the air for it's combustion, producing more thrust.

      @S T G X-15 isn't a jet, it's a rocket-powered aircraft 😊. What makes the SR-71 so remarkable is that it's an air-breathing aircraft, and it can take off and land under its own power, whereas X-15s had to be drop launched 😅. Still a really cool aircraft, and it does hold the overall speed record, SR-71 holds the air-breathing record 😊
