Love the "Sorry for your luck". it's not luck. The issue is Ford and their garbage engineering and KNOWING these transmissions were garbage even before they sold one car.
The mechanic who replaced mine with a remanufactured unit, overfilled it...didn't have it checked until the year warranty was up and it started whining ironically enough, drained a little fluid to the recommended level..still whines, not as loud but shifts even better now oddly enough. FORD should be held accountable on this crap
I have had a ton of transmission work done on my 2017. I got it back for the 3rd time about 4-5 weeks ago. The dealership likes to throw shade that I don’t know what I’m talking about with the noises my car makes. I know this car. The car now has a new sound, just like in this video, after having had my car for a month and supposedly repairing it…and now it’ll have to go back. Ford knows there’s an issue and at this point it’s beyond infuriating.
Sorry to hear that. That's best to have them look at it again. Perhaps there's a leak, or they didn't put enough fluid in. Or, they reused the old pump and that's failed now
How much to fix? Roughly
@@amademi7471 5k
There should be an extended warranty on transmissions. And if you have Ford’s Preminum warranty it should be covered.
My 2019 escape is just starting to make a hard to hear whine when accelerated. Only 25k miles. Had engine replaced under warranty 2 years ago. Also had an front drive axel/cv boot replaced a year ago. Don't see any visible leaks. Dealer in Atlanta wants car for 3 days to diagnose. If they think it is in the trans, it will take 8 weeks to get evaluated. Then however long to replace or fix trans. Would it be advised to just start w a trans fluid replacement and see what happens? That won't hurt it will it? Just figured we could look at the fluid that comes out and make an assessment. If its jet black or has something in it, then i can plan on it being gone for a while.
Yes it wouldn't hurt to start with a fluid service. Odds are the fluid is black just because mercon LV gets dirty quickly in these cars.
mine was the transmission filter clogged
Exactly what mine is doing. Thanks for the video!
Sorry to hear. You're welcome
Just having problem with whinny sound and dropping all gears at once but leave it for a day it will do good in all gears for 100 feet and starts whining again and drops all gears at once no slipping just dropped all gears and reverse also but again leave it and does same over and over again could it be the filter and fluid I bought it because of this it happened to an old couple driving and all gears just stopped and started whining so I need a second opinion
Was it a 2014 1.6?
Great. I just bought a used 2014 Escape with the 2.5 recently and just noticed that same whiny noise.
I would replace the front pump, torque converter and filter asap before it damages anything else. And check for a worn RH Axle support bracket(unrelated but common) Once the transmission is fixed, service the transmission every 30k miles, 3 drains. Then the transmission will last Many years, and the 2.5l engine is very reliable
And it’s a 2012 ford escape all wheel drive
2012 ford escape 3.0 all wheel drive
That’s exactly what happened to me. That was the cost as well. 2013 Escape transmission is particularly bad.
2013 Ford Fusion AWD approx 180k miles. If I caught the pump noise soon enough, can I get away with just replacing the pump? Or would you recommend a complete rebuild due to the miles.
@michaelpeace716 I think you'll be fine with just the pump, filter and a torque converter would be a good idea
I have a 2012 Escape and these transmissions are junk. I've owned this car for 6 years now, since early 2017, at 109k miles and it's been nothing but problems, but the transmissions are the worse I've driven on a vehicle. Even with the constant fluid changes, they're still prone to problems. The engines on these are fine, but the transmissions are not. The fluid breaks down easily, jolting is still present with 1-2 shift, shifting flares are more common, and then you have the CV axle bushings that leak (Mine got fixed). It's at 172k miles now, changed the fluid 3 times already (and changing it 3x during each interval) and new solenoids and it's still shuddering and jolting. And the longer you drive it, the harsher the shifts. And the fluid, at the moment, looks fine and is on the correct level. For an 11-year-old vehicle, THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!!!!! The newer Fords, with the 6F35 transmission, have similar issues as mine...and a new transmission cost over $2k and that's not including labor. I'll say this again: That's ridiculous!!!!!! I see why these Escapes and Fusions all over the road and, yes, the junkyard, because their trannies are on borrowed time as it is. Funny how my 1999 Volvo S70 has 350k miles and it's still going strong, same with my mom's '09 Camry at 280k miles, and my dad's old 1995 Ranger never got a tranny change and it still has the original transmission at 277k miles. Yet my little old Escape, even with all the maintenance work done, is having problems at 172k miles, which is low mileage for average owners, and I know it'll need a new transmission before 200k. If this happens even with following the maintenance intervals, then that means it's a terribly design transmission that should've been recalled from the start. I would never recommend a Ford again.
my ford escape2013 1.6 ecoboost was like this and then sound disapeared but not fully. sound of whining still remain while accelarating fast. whats maybe problem now and why sound disapeared and why whining sound is still while acelerating fast
?
The pump is likely just starting to fail and will do that again eventually. Thanks for watching!
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles maybe its about to change oil in transmision? maybe oil is old or dirty ? i have never change oil in transmission
@@datotsurtsumia6392 Yeah if it were me, I would service it. That way, if the whine is caused by low fluid level, you'd fix that. The fluid is bad about breaking down on these as well.
There should be a recall on those transmissions in the Ford escapes because what can happen is that somebody's going to get hurt or die from it from slipping it's a a fell pump if it is which it might be right I'm assuming he is but it needs to be addressed and if somebody gets hurt or die from it somebody's going to file a lawsuit against Ford and I wouldn't blame them for doing it I know I would have someone I'm my family follow lawsuit if I would have died or I would file lawsuit if I got hurt in the accident because it would not move because due to the transmission but when you call forward dealership they say oh no there is no recall on transmissions on the Ford escape that's BS I know cuz I have called I want to thank for this person that made this video or telling about the transmission what it can be and what it might be in is so thank you so much God bless be safe
Mine has the whine with no slip. And when turned off and back on the whine, goes away at idle.
@euthanasia662 that's common for when the pump fails. I restarted the engine when trying to limp them in the shop
Yup that's me today 2015 eco boost 😢
I'm sorry to hear that! 😔
Hey are you still responding to comments
Yeah, but I don't get notified for replies. So you can make another comment, or join my discord or Facebook group
How about if it does the sound only when the shift happens?
Hi thanks for your video. Same thing happening to a lady's car i know. Where can i find the transmission code?
2015 ford ecosport titanium
Hi you can buy a cheap scan tool to retrieve codes. It's probably a p0731 if it's the pump failing
Does this happen with the 2014 2.5L fusion 6f35 gen 2 trans. I'm having the exact same issue. No codes other than gear ratio i yhink it was p0733
Yes that does happen on that Gen. Make sure your fluid level is OK but you probably have a pump failure
thank you
You're welcome. Sorry if you have that noise!
Where is the front pump located
Inside the transmission, must be tore down
That's what my car is doing...😢😢😢 and I still owe on mines....not good this suck fr fr
I'm sorry to hear that. You could go get it diagnosed, maybe you'll get lucky and it's just a leak
we are on the same boat. i did a massive mistake with a fusion and its been doing that whining. few hard shifts when cold. im really looking up to take it to a transmission specialist to at least make sure the fluid ismt getting low id do the same mane it might not be too bad
Any way to prevent this??
I have 2019 SE 1.5L Turbo
@briannasurpris3039 change the transmission fluid every 30k miles. Drain and fill it 3 times and run in between.
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles do you know if Valvoline does that exact process or should I request they drain and fill it 3 times??
@briannasurpris3039 you can request it, and run the engine 15 mins in between drains. Or just do 1 drain every oil change for 5 oil Change periods
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles what do you mean by 5 oil change periods? Change them both at the same time 5 times and then go a few more oil changes until I do another 5 oil changes with the transmission fluid again?
My Explorer was making the same sound. Thanks for the tips.
You're welcome!
How do I know if it is just my fluids? Do I check the tranny fluid?
Hey Ben, if my escape was making that whining noise but i did a flush and no longer makes the noise does that mean i'm ok? It seems to be driving fine now with no noise though shifts a little bit hard every now and then
Hi maybe you were just low on fluid. Good!
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles I think i spoke too soon. It drives good when the car is cold in the morning but progressively gets clunkier the longer i drive it. It is noticeably better than before the flush though. It seems to struggle the most going uphill or downhill and under heavy acceleration. If i drive like a grandma then it will mostly be smooth... the whining comes and goes. Do you think doing a second flush would help? Maybe even adding some blue devil or possibly a heavier weight / thicker oil?
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Also, could you advise me on the interchange for these transmission? I'm hoping i can still salvage this one but in the case that it's done for, will a transmission from a 2.0 or the 1.6 ecoboost work as a replacement? Mine is a 2015 2.5, i haven't been able to find a solid answer on whether i can use a transmission out of a 2.0 or 1.6. There's a few escapes at my local junkyard but all either 2.0 or 1.6.
@@manuelramos57012nd flush
Thank you for the video! I have this whining-sound, but without slippage and only when cold. Should I be worried? I read somewhere that it should be normal in the first two/three gears with the 6F35. Thanks.
Hi, make sure it's not low on transmission fluid and no leaks. It's not normal. You may have heard about the delayed 2-3 shift being normal? Either way your pump whine (if the fluid level is good) is probably caused by a plugged filter from fluid breakdown. I wouldn't just replace the filter though.
@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Hello and thank you for your answer! In fact I also have delayed 2-3 shift and shift flare 4-5. When the transmission is warm, I hear a loud whining noise in reverse. This should be normal, said the workshop. Is it likely that transmission oil is missing after ~100,000km?
@@a.p.3439 make sure the fluids topped off before condemning a pump. And I'd replace solenoid B to.fix the delayed shifts
So if the front pump fails, u recommend a rebuid?
Yes either rebuild or replace, as it causes more damage
I have had this exact issue happen this last week on my 2016 Escape 2.0 Titanium. No warning lights. Suddenly did EXACTLY what you showed on video.
Towed to dealer. Dealer said transmissions are on backorder and NO ETA. The Escape only has 84k on it. Should I sell it as is? I can’t wait months on a transmission. I really need advise.
Not a bad idea to sell as is. Considering how expensive the transmission replacement is. Or you can have it tore down and inspected. And at least replace the pump, converter, valve body
Where is the front pump located
You have to pull out the transmission, remove the torque converter, then unbolt and separate the case halves
Had a 2015 Fusion brought in for this; guy was able to find a rebuilt transmission to save money, but said it continued to make noise
How could two separate transmissions (one rebuilt) have the same issue?
The rebuilt one probably had a pump whine and the tech who rebuilt it didn't replace the pump, because nothing visually fails with them. But it's a part that needs to be replaced on every one of these on a rebuild
I have a 2016 1.5l fusion that's doing this. It shifts great but after about 15 minutes, it'll start humming and then eventually disengage. Would you say i more than likely just need to replace the transmission?
Yes more than likely. Unfortunately. Just peek underneath first and make sure there's no obvious transmission leak
@@BigBensCarsAndCyclesI dropped the splash shield and didn't see anything leaking. I also cracked open the plug and drained about a table spoon worth of fluid and it's extremely dark. Should I drain the fluid and fill it with new or not bother? Thanks a lot for taking the time to get back with me.
need updates same issue here
@@DavidLikesToast. same problem any solutions ?
Sadly, it's time to replace your trans. I'm swapping the third different escape this year. Its a horrible pile, and failure is common. Ford will bandaid it to get past the warrantee milage, then charge you 8 to 10 grand for the exact same transmission. Find a local pull it yard. Used run from 1800 to 3000. Pay a mechanic go grab you one at a pull a part yard and you'll save thousands. If its still driving, trade it back to the same jerks who been lying to you and never buy another escape.
