Tires wearing quickly - What causes excessive tire wear? Fix it fast.

Are your tires wearing out quickly on your van or SUV? Our van was quickly wearing through tires and we fixed it by changing one habit! Excessive tire wear can be caused by turning the wheel without the tire moving. Our van was shredding the front tires on the outer edge and this was caused by us turning the wheel when the car wasn't moving.

Thanks so much, you are a life savior. My wife is the main cause of this issue.
My front tires outer edges of toyota sienna 2018 se are being worn off so quickly, alignment is perfect, consult with different mec professionals, but couldn’t pin point the main cause. You deserve 5 stars.

I think it’s more likely that your suspension is shot , turning your tires would not do that much extra wear

That's a good point. Actually after we quit doing the turning without moving our tires are not wearing quickly. I did had the shocks replaced 30k miles ago.

This is really interesting. I am always worried about my tyres as where I live in Costa Rica the roads are very steep, a lot of gravel and we also have the rainy season approaching. Good tread is crucial! I will definitely consider this tip when I drive. Thank you!

Also I wondered if me turning without moving is bad I sometimes did it to be more safe in parking lots but I’ll just be slow as possible if that’s the problem. I got new tires hopefully that’s just the problem and not suspension issues and everything 🤦🏻‍♀️
