This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Try "Unchained Melody" with Bobby Hatfield doing it solo. Best version ever!
Bobby's live rendition of Unchained Melody is perhaps the most amazing vocal EVER. And he just opens his mouth and it comes out like he's not even trying!
I think baritone is the word that you're looking for. Just saying. Also, who needed auto-tuning when you had the overproduced reverb and echo chamber distortion of Phil Spector's trademark "Wall of Sound." I mean tracks were overdubbed so that individual instrumentation was intentionally indistinguishable.
Aww...I love these guys. I'm 74 yrs and grew up listening to them. They were so awesome when they came out in the 60's. I have every vinyl record album they made. I play their grestest hits CD in my car. Love them! RIP Bobby! We miss you!! 💖

I agree with your assessment. In my humble opinion she possessed an angelic voice that seemed to flow so naturally from her. It was and is extremely sad that she died so young. I remember reading that her brother used the technique of recording their own voices to be used as their backup singers, blended back into the recordings. Essentially blending perfectly as it was their voices. Brilliant.
Bobby Hatfield has a tenor voice and Bill Melody is baritone. Their voices shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic. Listen to Bobby's (Unchained Melody) no one will ever do it like his live performance it was sheer perfection. Listen to Bill singing BROWN EYED GIRL solo too.
One of their back up singers in this recording was a very young teenager named Cher. Bill is 6’8-9” and Bobby was 6’4-5”. This was the most requested song on radio stations in the 20th century.
@@stevenellers1939 You said, most "requested," which is why I asked, "according to who?" When I worked on radio, very seldom was anything ever played on request let alone were records of requests ever kept. Nevertheless, according to BMI, "Every Breath You Take" eclipsed YLTLF as the most "played" song in radio history in 2019.
@@larrysmac First, I worked in radio for a while too and know that BMI lumped that data. I also worked during the era when call in requests were a large part of why people listened. When radio went to the current system of preprogrammed shows and very little local programing, except local news and very brief drive time shows, the request stuff went away and you know or should have known that too. 2019 is 19 years into the 21st century so it doesn’t count.
