Such a beautiful Catholic Church. So sacred and serene but o so powerful. What a wonderful way to enjoy the last week before Advent begins, capturing the essence of the Longing for the Coming. I am so in awe of the craftsmanship and Talent of the Artisans. So many People dedicated their lives to stamping out Catholic Sacred places , how thankful I am that they didn't keep their talent to themselves. So many Polish Artisans came to the USA and helped build the beautiful Churches we see today. Thank you for sharing Poland. It was so special to see everything.

I was born in Gdansk and grew up with the city's wonderful organ landscape, including this one.
The great organ in Oliwa was started in 1763 and it's builder, Johann Wulff, suffered a stroke in 1788 and was unable to finish the instrument. A local reputable organ builder from Gdansk, Rudolf Friedrich Dalitz, was brought in to finish the instrument and the organ was complted in 1793. At that time, for a brief period of time, this was the largest organ in the world.
The organ case which you see in the main nave has changed very little since then. I believe it still is the organ with the largest amount of moving wooden sculptures, 44 in total if I remember right, in the world today, all of them dating back to the original instrument in 1793.
The organ today has over 8000 pipes (mostly behind the visible organ case) and remains one of the most iconic instruments in Poland.

Through genealogy research, I found that my paternal great grandparents were both born in Gdansk in 1850 and then married (each other) in 1875 in Gdansk before immigrating to the US shortly there after. So, yes, Gdansk is on my bucket list of places to visit.

Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 565. It needs to be heard on a big organ in a big space!

I was in Gdańsk 3 years ago and this church was on my list of places to visit, unfortunately I did not make it. Thank you for sharing. I have started another list for the next visit and this is back on the list.

Nice. You have respect for music and that organ has powerful output. Thanks for showing. Performed a bit fast for my taste, but always interesting to hear an interpretation of Bach's work. Go often and enjoy it. Find out when students are on the keyboard and go. Talk to them about how they perform, etc. You will learn a lot and enjoy it even more.

Hallo miss Anja. Do you ever cooked Czernina soup. This is one of my favorite soups back as a child. A very authentic Polish soup with a sour, sweet taste. But many polish people forgotten it or never tried it. For many people the ingredients are very "scary" or/and they can't deal with it. It is what it is but it is a part of our culture. I would love to see a video about this soup in English language. Many zdrowia luck and prosperity.😊

Yes, not often but I do. I actually enjoy the flavor. It needs to be made with lots of veg and dried fruit for the sweet and sour balance.

This instrument is like the Donald Trump of the organworld. On one hand it's really great and impressive on the other hand it has lots of problems. It could definately need a retuning.
