THE ORGAN OF LICHEN BASILICA - JONATHAN SCOTT ONLINE CONCERT
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 19 ส.ค. 2023
- This Sunday 20th August 2023 7pm (UK Time) we are extremely excited to bring you our 5OTH ONLINE CONCERT from the incredible Zych Pipe Organ of Licheń Basilica, Licheń Stary, Poland. This is the largest Pipe Organ and Church in Poland, and it was an unbelievable experience for Jonathan to perform on this monumental instrument. It has over 12,000 pipes, 157 stops, and a six manual console to control the 5 separate parts (& 11 divisions) spaced around the Basilica (with a colossal 12 second reverberation). The organ is actually based on the never built giant organ proposed by Cavaillé-Coll for St Peter's Basilica in Rome. Tom has created an immersive audio experience which places you in the centre of the Basilica as well as bringing you the sights of this architectural masterpiece. We hope you will all join us for the Biggest Online Organ Event of the year and share this unforgettable experience!

Good morning Jonathan and Tom, Superlatives fail me with regard to your playing of your concert, recording and photography. I have already listened twice to this outstanding concert. How can you assimilate such a monumental organ in such a short time Jonathan? And equally difficult for you Tom in the placing of your microphones, and your photography. All your transcriptions Jonathan were superbly selected to demonstrate this incredible organ. I was particularly affected by the Adagio from Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony, so tastefully registered; in fact your transcription of this work may even be better than the original orchestral version. This 50th Concert will surely go down in the annals of time as your greatest yet.
Still can’t even begin to comprehend the magnitude of the task and the energy involved in bringing us this 50th concert! As always a fantastic performance from Jonathan (in the middle of the night) and amazing film sequences from Tom (basilica exterior as well as interior), plus the enjoyable dialogue between pieces. Add to all that, dealing with huge crowds of Lichen visitors, the travel to a remote area, and the time spent in editing once back home ….
An incredible achievement, thank you so much for it - and for all the other 49
Oh. My. God. Discovering an organ this large took my breath away for a few seconds. If J.S. Bach would have lived to see this built and would have had the opportunity to travel to and play on this instrument.. then, my friends, he would have played and composed something that would have overshadowed his own Toccata in D min. This is an utter heavy metal like organ. All senses get drowned in a pool of utmost majestical sounds. Especially that reverb is just EPIC.
Oh wow, that was impressive!! Well done Tom for the filming & particularly the sound recording of this incredible concert. You succeeded in capturing the sound of the various organs around the Basilica in spite of the challenge of the 12 second reverb!! Jonathan, your programme was wonderful & I can only marvel at your stamina! Playing this huge organ during the day would be hard enough, but you were doing it in the early hours of the morning - going without sleep - & at full stretch some of the time! I am in awe of your artistry! I am so grateful that you filmed this wonderful concert for your TH-cam viewers. Thank you for this & the other 49 glorious concerts which you so generously uploaded for us all. You two are amazing, talented & I am extremely grateful! xx
The Scott Brothers are the pride of Manchester so great to have been able to hear Jonathan live in the UK. He & Tom are such an amazingly talented pair! They make both the playing, recording & filming look so effortless! Bravo to you both. 😂👏🤩
What a fantastic material/video! As a Polish-American. Thank you for sharing the beautiful and important production of your great talent!
Amazing organ amazing musician you are wonderful😊😊😊😊
Holy WOW! I wish I had been able to listen to this when it was premiered! I'm doing some catching up, and this is just mind blowing! Magnificent basilica, magnificent organ(s), magnificent music, magnificent transcriptions! Actually, I made the mistake of listening to it with just the laptop's own speakers, then immediately re-listened to it with the earbuds, which was MUCH better! Amazing little earbuds! With earbuds, the reverberations weren't so messy sounding and I was able to hear melody lines more clearly! Jonathan's transcriptions are always so RIGHT - they perfectly capture the piece so you never really miss the orchestra! Jonathan is so immensely talented - why isn't he a household name by now? Tom, equally immensely talented as musician, recording engineer, animator, composer, photographer, etc. - I'm wondering if he's using drones now to capture some of his exterior shots! This is a magnificent musical, sonic and visual masterpiece. Thank you both for so generously sharing your incredible talents with those of us near and far, who otherwise would never experience these performance gems! You bring the sunshine into every little corner in the world!🎹🎺 🎼 🌞 🌎
Thank you so much Jonathan and Tom for this wonderful performance and video! And to record it in the middle of the night! We all appreciate it so much!
I have no words to express my admiration for the Brothers Scott. If you're feeling down, try one of their productions. Guaranteed success. For a long time I spurned organ transcriptions because there is so much actually written for the organ. But Jonathan's immense and dedicated work in producing and playing them have won me over. And if I hadn't been won over already, the Rachmaninov would have done it. Thank you both. May you continue to produce concerts like this for many years to come.
One word and it is nowhere near sufficient: Awesome!
Sounds like diving your entire body into an ocean of sounds. Be inside sounds and sounds exist in you. Hope i can once in life attend one such concert.
What a triumph for your 50th video! The tubular bells in the Handel were super. Very memorable.Bravo and thank you.
Should have mentioned Tom’s excellent video too. Thank you.
Thank you gentleman. Once again absolutely stunning footage and superlative concert.
All of that to deal with, and Jonathan decides to add thumb down into the mix. Just amazing! And I may have had something in my eye during the Rach.
This was a magnificent concert. Technically the recording was spectacular. Tom, I don't know how you managed it, but you managed to preserve to spatial aspects. Through the Atmos upmixer in my 7.4.2 system, The organ at the side plays right out of the right surround speakers. The organs in the balcony at the rear of the church you wisely made the front. So you acoustically turned the church 180. The smaller front instruments plays from the rear back speakers. The ceiling speakers made a great sense of the domed acoustic.
Well done. This organ and space definitely warrants a recording in full Atmos object based sound on BD.
When the world is ending that is where I want to be and that is how it needs to sound! So hard to capture all that sound in such a huge place. ❤👍👏
What an amazing audio experience, topped by brilliant video presentation of best-in-the world organ-playing. After watching all this especially the magnificent pedal-work, I am declaring the position of world's greatest living organist now being taken by Jonathan Scott.
An incredible Instrument in a stunning location. Thank you for making an upload of the whole Concert !
Amen
Wow - this is taming the monster with precision moves. Very, very impressive and well done.
This colossal, majestic instrument is beautifully showcased by Jonathan's monumental transcriptions, his inspired performances, & Tom's breathtaking filming. Surely this is the full orchestra I believe Jonathan has aspired to 'conduct'. Bravo!! Thank you so much for sharing this gorgeous Basilica and music. 💐💐🎹🎶
Agreed. And a shout out to the tuner!❤
Just . . . W O W !
The Rachmaninoff transcription was unbelievable! Luscious. Masterfully crafted and executed! “Thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks…”
Amazing God given talent. Thank you for sharing the enchanting sound you create on a magnificent instrument. Music of the angels.
Really really looking forward to the Scott arrangement of Johannes Brahms of the
Variations on a theme by Haydn 'St Anthony Chorale' Op. 56! Long been a favourite of mine - such a majestic melody.
Thank you for a wonderful concert and film footage 😅
21:50 wow. Nice and elegant move from Jonathan. Jumping from manual to manual ; from stop to stop... through keyboards and notes..
Stunning sound .
So majestic powerful and beautifullly crafted. JOHN is a proper conductor.
OVERWHELMINGLY PERFECT PERFORMANCE on an outstanding instrument at an impressive location with a peculiar acoustics!!! The definitive evidence of your Enormous Talent, as an Organist and as the Author of the Transcriptions of these Musical pieces for the Pipe Organ as well!!! Simply SUPERB, Your version of G.F.HAENDEL’s Passacaglia!!! Beautiful images taken by Tom! CONGRATULATIONS to Both of You and THANK YOU so much for this remarkable recording!…
Thank you so much for sharing this. Been looking forward to it so much xx
Здесь все прекрасно, а музыка божественна. Мира этой планете и всем нам!
Wow; the sound on the trailer is incredible. Dr Tom strikes again!
I'm in awe of not only the monumentally talented musician but the magnificent craftsmanship of this beautiful house of God and the instrument therein, he may or may or may not know it but he has been blessed with this gift from God, yes studying and practice but it takes more than that to master the greatest instrument known to man, i believe it takes divine intervention.
I really enjoyed the concert Scott it was well done and the Organ is so beautiful so was the cathedral I just finish watching it online because I live here in New Zealand and also I’d scribe to your channel
And your brother did a great job video it . and one day you might come to New Zealand specially to Wellington. Our catholic cathedral is getting done up as it’s earthquake prone but it’s meant to be opening at the end of this year so our Organ is overseas getting worked on. And the other Organ is in Wellington is St Mary of the Angels Max Cryer Who was Organ and Man call David Trott Play that now.
So once again thank you for a lovely concert and if you come to New Zealand let us know. Specially to Wellington.
So much to thank you both for, all your hard work, all the pleasure you give us, all 50 concerts.
Congrats!! I'm glad that I could play in Licheń in such an amazing company! I admire your work in playing and transcription. Good luck in the future!
I'm smiling already. I just know that this will be excellent. xx
I look forward to hearing you play this arrangement of The Thieving Magpie on the Wanamaker organ at Macy’s in Philadelphia. I’ll come out to hear it live!
Thank you very kindly. Excellent music and performance.
WOW!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️
Thanks for this beautiful discovery.
We dream of visiting this organ.
The instrument is exceptional. The fabulous echo, however, hampers the precision of the sound and the listening of the combinations used.
It is truly a great experience that you bring to us, in this immense basilica.
If Rome had accepted Cavaillé-Coll’s projects…
Just wonderful! It was an incredible concert! And the video, excellent especially for many of us who are unlikely to go to this Basilica! Thank you both for this wonderful video!
Magnificent!!!!!! The VOX DEI !!!!!
Hallo!!
Absolute Breathtaking and Loveley
Thank you very very much!!!
With Love from the Netherlands. ❤❤
I’m like-in Lichen! 😂😊
Lovely
Jonathan is awonderful transcriber for the organ of major orchestral music!!!!
VERY AWESOME, JONATHAN! 😱🎹🎊💎
CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS A LOT FOR EVERYTHING! 🙏🎼🎶
Thank you for renewing with the tradition of full-lenght concert. A rich programme illustrating the incredible potential of this out-of-the-ordinary organ. Thanks also to Tom for helping us to discover this quite unusual cathedral. We can understand you both found it an incredible experience and we do appreciate the fact that Scott was willing to play at night to allow us to share in this experience.
06:45 This has always been my favorite part. The registration is magical here. The acoustics are as dense as cake. I'm in heaven
Eat yer hear out, Starship Enterprise! This is what a control bridge is supposed to look like - and sound. No squeaky beeps allowed. Thanks to you both - and the church Authorities for making it possible. I'm sure you'll find many more wonder instruments in your travels. Hint hint!
Congrats Jonathan - you are doing great performance in this very difficult acoustics !
Absolutely spine tingling, food for the soul. Thank you so much Jonathan
Beautiful arrangement. Beautiful playing.
Beautiful church.
Beautiful audio and video.
Thanks to both of you.
If you ever plan to come to Atlanta, GA I hope to hear you play in person.
Thanks Tom and Johnathan.
Most beautiful reverb ever in such a magical and spiritual environment. Wow! Thank you Scott brothers.
Bravo Jonathan. An amazing 50th concert from a beautiful Basilica and pipe organ. Thank you to Tom too for bringing us all the sound and vision. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oh my! You two have really outdone yourselves with this one. Everything was perfection, and realizing the effort you both put forth in creating this masterpiece makes me even more grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.! xx
A true mastermind such brilliance in his playing , you both are soooo incredible and I hope I can see you in person one day.
Unbelievable. This Sound. That Playing. This Accustic. Breathtaking. Thanks so much Jonathan.
Thank you so much Jonathan and Tom for this amazing concert and 50 concerts. 🙌🙏👍🎶❤️🙋🏻♀️
You 'nail-it' every time, Jonathan! I hope that, by now (thanks to Tom's multiple skills/musical talent) your own amazing talent and skill as an organist are a "given" each time you upload!
Truly stunning. I guess now with electric linkage, a retrofit when the originals would have been independent, with tracker action. Amazingly, my computer speakers behind the screen are bringing the sound up to full effect.
In their separate vlog upload about the Basilica the bros show that the 4 manual Grand Orgue and the 2 manual Organ in the West Emporium have separate fully mechanical consoles.
What a massive splendid sound! Sound cannot be surpassed!
Thks Johnathan for the brilliant organ playing & transcribing orchestral scores that must've taken a lot of time. A wonderful organ. Thks to Tom for the excellent sound & visuals . A really enjoyable concert.
Perhaps the perfect instrument in the perfect location. Seldom do such lucky happenstances greet us with such overflowing and glorious effect!
Wow, can't wait for this one!
The acoustics are fantastic in this church and the way in which you respond to the reverberation is just perfect. It must have been an exceptional experience to be there in person.
Wow!! Incredible!
Magnificent! Much gratitude all the way from Durbanville in South Africa.
An amazing uplifting concert. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you so very much for doing this Jonathan and Tom. James.
As a kid I was brought up on the Hammond organ in the 1970s and was hooked on organs I've heard various types of organs and they all have there unique sound I've even listened to the mighty worlitzer of Blackpool and there's a big difference but just to hear this outstanding mighty organ is amazing just wish I could hear toccata fuge by Mozart style music.😊
WOW! Beautiful instrument, beautiful venue and a fantastic organist with a talented brother to showcase everything.
Absolutely phenomenal! Thank you Jonathan and Tom. How you managed to put this together is beyond amazing. Handling this monster in such a masterful way show what incredible talent you have Jonathan. I am in awe....
This place and this organ are amazing!!
The performance was excellent, as always. You never disappoint. But the piece I prefer is Handel's Passacaglia, I know it and with Jonathan's arrangements for the organ it sounds great. The various effects with the different registers produce exceptional harmonies that are very pleasant to the ear. Also the images taken by Tom are incredible!!
Thank you both very much and congratulations on your 50th online concert!!💖😘😘
This wonderful instrument is as much a part of the architecture as is that of Liverpool's equally-vast Anglican Cathedral. What an incredibly rich sound. Thank you, too, for the photography of the interior of this magnificent basilica: although I am constantly disappointed at the lack of attention given to the High Altar in such contemporary buildings. It is as though The Liturgical Movement never happened. In the cathedrals of Coventry, and Liverpool RC cathedrals, the focus is entirely on the altar/holy table: where it should be.
Presumably because this is not a cathedral but a basilica and the site has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries (this building is very new) to venerate the holy icon the focus is on the icon. You see it at 1.04.28 and its placed so as to be visible through the front doors to crowds standing on the huge square in front of the building as Tom cleverly shows at 1.05.32
If anyone can make an organ (and this is indeed one) sound like an orchestra, I don't know who can. Fantastic!
I marvel at your talent- boggles the mind how wonderfully you play, wow!
Absolutely stunning, what a player he is, I hope I meet him some day.
Un superbe concert. Bravo.❤❤
Bravissimo for a successful concert! Rachmaninoff on the organ sounds incredibly sentimental. It changed my perception. Thank you, Tom and Jonathan for this!
Jonathan, this may be your best concert yet, thanks in no small part to the very impressive instrument and location. Tom's recording and photography is superb. Your interpretation and performance are magnificent. Thank you both so much for bringing this to us.
I finally had a chance to listen to this video on some really good equipment. I'll never be quite the same again. Stunning! xx
Excellent composition and performance! Greetings from Chihuahua Mexico.
Wow!!
3:44 WOW!! that reverb. and the way you paused suitable for the environment: brilliant all round, as always! much love to you both for this masterpiece, from Hampshire
STUNNING!
Impressionnante transcription de la Passacaille de Haendel, ainsi que l'adagio de Rachmaninoff
Jonathan comme toujours au sommet de son art
Merci pour ce très bel enregistrement
Amazing organ, amazing sound! What a grand concert indeed!! Thank you!
That's an amazing recording ! Thanks for this musical masterclass
Thankn you for sharing the organ and the lovely music with the You Tube world.
I love this monster of a pipe organ. Beautifully played.
The opening of the adagio 24:19 is so calm and beautiful.
Melanchonic and discrete.
So warm and dense of meaning. So perfectly crafted and arranged by M. Scott. That's so nice. Thank you so much from Bergamo, Italy.
MAGNIFICENT performance, Johnathan❣️
Magnificent instrument❣️ ( monster, eh?)

Heavenly Organ..Best of the Best !!! Thank You ..
Wonderful as always, Jonathan! Perfect setting for an outstanding program. Your arrangement on the Brahms' Variations was breathtaking. Bravo and many thanks!
Dear Jonathan, many thanks for these extremely poignant transscriptions of well-known masterpieces played on this fantastic instrument. While I was listening to Rachmaninoff's piece I saw sun-beams glittering through clouds moving above my inner sky, filling my heart at the end. Really an unforgettable experience ...
Nie Pan Bóg wspomaga Was w codziennej pracy twórczej. Serdecznie Was pozdrawiamy, z Calgary - Bronisława i Zbigniew Koneccy.
