I got one payment in may. Every re-certification has been stuck in “pending” since then. This is a mess

And when I certify each week, I get paid immediately, like the following day later, every time. Your account must have been flagged or something.

If the people don’t need the money and unemployment won’t take it back maybe they can sign the checks over to the people who need the money 👍
Then unemployment will come back later saying they owe $$ for over payment.
So I doubt this is true because it simply isn't how EDD works.
First off you can get EDD if you have a job but your hours were slashed to far below full time (below 20 hours a week).
Second, EDD pays based on your WEEKLY report. If you don't submit a weekly report, there's no record in the system to pay you. So these people who "don't want or need" the money would have to be continuing to fill out those weekly reports and...why? I am finally moving up to full time this week and I can't WAIT to check the little box that says I dont need the service anymore and not have to fill them out.
This doesn't add up.
Actually, at one point, EDD Online was so backlogged with new claims, they were waiving the "certification" requirement, so that new applicants could get through...

@@Rj-ov7zd I did, as well. It was stated that we would have to eventually do them retroactively, so knowing myself, I just wanted to get them done, so I wouldn't forget, LOL! I just did them right after midnight, and there were no delays online... I also wanted to make sure I was ahead in the queue, so I could receive my payment ASAP...
The problem is the system is overloaded and not prepared.

The only "glitch" is the one for those who were self-employed, and that's because most of those people aren't providing the appropriate information...
You have to log in and certify each week to get paid. So how does EDD “accidentally” deposit money on your account. I call bs

I want to know how this government organization, seemingly plagued by incompetence is allowed to go on existing.
I was sitting and waiting a while before I got my change. Feeling blessed. Amen!!!

Did you apply online? I cannot do this online because they are asking a concrete date when you started to work and when you had quit the work and for what reason you quit. So there's no option to let them know that you are still working on one job but lost the other job.
I’m trying to do the same. I’m a healthcare worker who’s hours got cut because lack of work. I work out of 4 facilities and still can’t work more then 5 maybe 6 hours a day. No hazard pay or hourly raise. I don’t get any other help I’d be thankful for any help at this point.
@@anastaciad5119 Stacy, I got an idea, do not know if it will work, but what if instead of using the online app process print paper application and fill out it by making notes. Like that you have the chance to explain on the paper. Then send it by mail.
The online application process is designed only for the jobs you lost already in my opinion.

Im still waiting on mines as well! I know people that are getting checks and never worked before!! My job closed in March so me and my family are needing help!!!

this happened to us, exactly the same way... my husband got laid off from work on a Thursday we filed for UI that same day but by Monday he had already found another job for the mean time. I called EDD and told them we don't need the money, to take it back cause I didn't want to have to pay it later on or be accused of scamming the system and I also told them I never responded to the letters they would send assuming they would cancel my claim but they said right now they're are not fixing any claims they're just sending payments automatically to who ever filed a claim and that they're not requiring the work search response they usually do. the person I spoke to told me to send a letter to EDD explaining what happened and not to touch the money because once this is all over they will fix everything and claim it all back. I'm still waiting for them to take it back.
To be fair, EDD has always been a shit show. Before the pandemic, they made it damn near impossible to get you benefits. In a way I'm lucky to have my full-time job, but I'm kind of salty that people are making way more in unemployment. Makes me wonder should I have taken that offer my job proposed to me. Strings are definitely attached when it comes down to EDD
I'd rather have my job... Sure, the extra $600/week was nice, but that's coming to an end this week, and it's back to less than half my regular pay... Fortunately, I had the good sense to roll over any "extra" money to supplement the upcoming weeks, and only spent what I would have normally earned...
If $600 a week makes people earn more on unemployment then they would working a job, doesn't that just show how little those jobs pay?

The pay for histology techs/pathology assistants is between 30-45 hr. That's why STEM is pushed so hard in the classrooms. The reason why foreigners are taking "our" jobs is because the classes are difficult. Most people I work with can barely speak English but can do math. We don't want to take the difficult classes. Then you wonder why your stuck with a crappy low wage job. Im no means smarter than anyone, I had to study twice as much as others. If you are willing to go thru a challenging 2 year program you will never be out of work again. Please tell any young person in your life about this opportunity. @@six6goddess214 It's not so much Americans don't "want" to take the appropriate classes, but that those classes simply aren't offered at an early enough stage... There's also a reason for that; foreigners work cheaper. Period. If the major tech & engineering companies really wanted to invest in our own labor force, they'd invest in programs in schools... Also, US schools push the general "college" narrative, but don't put any emphasis on taking appropriate courses, only that a "degree" is the key to a corner office, regardless of major.
yeah they have my and coworkers work info when our hours got reduced and placed closed no one at a school can work until kids go back. edd emails on time when they want certifications for sure

I filed for unemployment in March 2020 and received two payments in May and then nothing. So far they have missed 13 payments. They are not taking calls on their main phone line, it simply says "We are not taking calls at this time". They do not answer their own email inbox through their website and you can not make an appoint to speak to anyone in person. It is a pretty slick racket. I understand they are busy with all the new claims but there's got to be limit at some point. I mean if there is no accountability then why bother right?
@@lumina5 That is exactly what I was thinking. What else could it be? At first I thought that it was just that the system is simply overwhelmed, but now after months and months and months of trying to get a hold of them and when I finally do they give me some BS excuses that does hold water. This is way past government incompetence and inefficiency. I agree with you it has to be that they have run out of funds, but the fact is unemployment should be one of their absolute top priorities and obviously it is not!

I am horrified by this news. I am horrified that some of us waited 2-3 months to have received first payments. Some people wait and wait and wait, not knowing what will be the answers to their filing. Some of us received the first payment, but no more coming but don't know why. And some people are being wrongly paid. What a serious time wasted for millions of us!

My friend with 3 kids under 10 laud off school and job. One check for $171 finally after waiting five months she got the back $600 x 10. U just have to wait. Ugh. I feel your pain
i had friends that went through online and got their benefits why all the calls. And alot of my area is on welfare and milk the systems why do think Cali has a 10 plus yr waiting list for housing

Owed 8 weeks plus...from last day worked at company April 3 to June 6...still can not reach a specialist.. homeless in van...1 live person on technical assistance phone numbe(in over 2 months finally reached) who passed the buck and told me to call 8-12 on main number to speak with Specialist...smh.. getting hot out .. probably gonna check out this cruel world on my terms.. UNBELIEVABLE

I’m self employed and couldn’t pay rent for my business so I’ve had to give my 30-day notice and completely shut down my practice. I’ve applied for the CARES Act that is suppose to help self employed people such as myself, yet this is now my 4th time applying and I’ve been denied 3 times so far. Just like the people who also need help in this report, I’m unable to get through to EDD. I’ve written to my local senator to ask for help. Not sure what else I can do besides wait but it’s extremely difficult since my last day of work was March 14th.

Is there maybe someone who can help you apply? It seems all these programs are looking for specific answers to qualify you. Also, I know you may not want to but what about regular Gov't assistance until the pandemic assistance kicks in( SNAP, TANF, food banks)? I'm sorry this is happening to you.

You file regular unemployment. If you qualify you automatically get PUA.

I have been waiting for unemployment offices to open....I have not been paid since March 28, 2020 and the online service is not accepting my phone calls so why can't we go to the unemployment offices and do the work there?

I support the hero's act, but I am totally PISSED OFF that people are bringing home more money in one week than they did in one month! Maybe a slight exaggeration but FACT: 3 people in my family are bringing home 50 to 90 percent more than they did ehen they were working! My Brother-in-laws Girl worked part time at Stop and Shop and was getting a check for 50$ a week, now she's bringing home 650$+ per week! I don't qualify for ANY benefits and my husband is on SSD (750$/mo - not enough to live on 😁)

WHY WHY WHY could we have not calculated a percentage of tax payers income for the unemployment benefits being paid? 2 of the people in my family are lazy and have lived off my husbands Father FOR YEARS... now they are in heaven. That’s what’s happening to me apparently I make too much for me to be eligible to get unemployment... which doesn’t make sense I only make 1,200 a month and they going to say that sorry you’re not eligible to get the money. If you filed unemployment when the pandemic hit they auto filled your certifications for the first couple of months or so. There is an online portal area to say you were working.
Turns out they are now having you go back and re certify and I am going to assume you will have to pay the money back through the over payment system.
That doesn't make any sense. To get a EDD payment, you have to certify weeks, right? Somebody is lying.
@@123456sbrightman no they auto certified during march-may. They did it because they wanted to keep people from getting errors and calling in.
These people could have gone online and stopped it. It was probably hard to figure out. There is now an overpayment portal to pay it back.
Honestly all the edd had to do was make simple instructional videos on their website/youtube to help people rather than putting information out through various local news youtubes or their overally complicated newsletter system.
I had to spend days online searching youtube/Twitter/reddit and facebook to get any coherent information. The edd really needs to modernize their communication efforts. It would have kept their phone system less bogged down.

I'm going on my 5th month of waiting for them to process my claim per identity verification. I've been told only ONE office in ALL of California is in charge of handling claims that require identity verification. They need to look into those offices to ensure those there are doing their jobs and need to open up MORE THAN ONE office to process these claims.
I suggest you file through a federal agent. They help with processing and you can then receive your benefits on your cashapp.
They think that the money was for the Senate that is why keep sending the money to people who is working that's how easy The Senate gets there Money

You know..?.... you have to make a claim in order to get a edd debit card, meaning he file a claim and gave his info and fit the criteria for the Due Process and boom !!! Money coming, but what was his job like his occupation ??? At least look into his last payday to see, just wondering news folk ?
It takes time to process the claim, especially in the beginning of the shutdown... By the time EDD processed his claim, he already had his job back. When he applied, he didn't know he would have a job so quickly.

Thats good! Its frustrating to risk your life being an essential worker. Having to watch everyone else sit in the safety of their home and get twice what they got paid for working. I say cut it back to regular for everyone. If you want to stay home you should struggle while you do it
Sooo.. this story is about people getting money that they don't deserve from the government, right?
We interview an old old man who still has to work full time. He somehow accidentally got $4200 on a prepaid debit card, and accidentally certified for benefits every two weeks.
Meanwhile, about a dozen companies gave back the MILLIONS of dollars they received "in error." The story last month was that out of the millions of companies in the US, 13 of them publicly return the $170 MILLION they were given. Never a thought given to millions of other companies that kept their mouth shut.
If you insist on having that guy in your story, at least have it be about why he should spend the money on health care so he can retire for a few months.
While the US dollar hangs on to its value....buy anything that has value while you can. It may be that US federal reserve notes won't be worth the crap it's printed on. Printing tangible dollars to meet the digital record is will never going to happen. Further; a cashless society they would prefer as that makes all transactions recorded. Cash allows you to purchase something with no record thus keeping it truly private. It's Q.E infinity.

Never applied for Edd I love my job but since the pandemic got worse I was laid off so I had to apply but it has been a nightmare waiting on someone to answer the phone it’s impossible it took 3 months until finally someone that works for Edd help me he was amazing he help me so fast that by the next day I got paid thanks Oliver please train the people that work there some of them are so rude and even though you are waiting hours to speak to someone they hang up ok you and they are rude what the hell thanks to all of us they have jobs sorry but that they true i wasn’t asking for handout I was fighting for what I been working for years hopefully we can go back to normal u want to get back to work

Some of them thought they were being furloughed, but by the time EDD processed their claims, they were told to come back to work. They didn't know their jobs would reopen.
