    Great comment about wearing hearing protection. I had an old guy tell me once that my hearing is a non renewable resource. That really stuck with me and I too wear hearing protection all the time

      I read recently that hammering can cause hearing damage. Although it's not sustained noise it is the effect of the cumulative loud impacts.

    You made a great point about not knife edging the transfer port bridge. The air goes around a rounded edge way better than a knife edge. The knife edge should only be used for the trailing edge.

    Thank you buddy for your great and helpful instructions on porting. It helped me a lot. I ported all my cylinders of my RC Airplanes from 40 up to 80 ccm with good results. Greetings from Germany.

    Hey tinman, another great video. You should try some chalk on your double cut burr bits, instead of oil, it's not like an end mill on a big stiff milling machine setup where you are just hogging out great big chips and it needs the full flute depth in between the cutters just to clear chips, it's more like a file, where just the tip of the cutters is doing the work, and the space in between cutters just gets gummed up with chips. Chalk or what they call here machine wax, it might be called something different up there, the stuff you put on your big old table saw table to keep it from flash rusting from just the humidity in the air, they both help keep the cutters from getting gummed up better than oil for me, I think the oil might mostly get flung off at the speed a Dremel works at maybe? Thanks again for the great videos, I used to be a good mechanic/machinist, but my memory is toast from multiple sclerosis, so TH-cam videos to "tune up" my brain before I do some project are great, even if I have done a bunch, just to help me relax and not worry that I forgot something simple that will brick what I'm working on, hah, it makes it more fun if I'm not trying so hard to remember what I forgot, hah.

    So glad you mentioned that you need to keep the surface of the transfer rough as apposed to polished. Polishing is for the exhaust side. Great video.

    That blending at the bottom will definitely increase performance. Noticeable in the hand maybe not but the fuel mixture won't swirl and back up big ups to you man for the small details

    Today i started to make my ms660 transferports like this. How longer you look at a port how more imperfections you see. i started with a grinding stone in stead of a milling bit and gently started to remove material. this way i don't make mistakes that fast. it's fun and relaxing work to do! thanks Tinman for your tutorial video.

    Excellent work. Thank you for your knowledge. About to start my first port in a few weeks (Waiting on parts ..yay shipping delays due to Rona). I've bought a second tiny little 25cc Certa 10" saw to practice on. I already have one (It's cheap and Chinese made) and love using it instead of swinging my bigger Stihl 661cm when I'm cleaning small stuff up and pruning. It's already a little ripper, but I've bought a second one for parts for the first if all else fails, but it's to be my first port experiment.

    I'm not sure if you seen it last time. what works for just plain air does not always work for air and fuel. even if I go back with a sander drum I will always go back to the ball cutter and lightly hit everything straight lines from one side of the port to the other. for small 4 cycles its typically a roundish port so I go all the way around the port making it look like ribs. I've had 2 cylinder heads flow tested note wet flow tested to the cams lift and the one I finished with the cutter bit flowed and atomized a bit better. picked up a bit more torque throughout the rpm range. This method I have found works for both 2 and 4 stroke engines regardless the size of them. Hope this helps buddy. Good work btw.

    When you get it done send it to me and send one to you same saw that is stock. And I love this and have had it for 10 plus years and did tur up the fuel 1 1/2 turns to keep from burning the saw up.

    Great information thanks for the vidies. I used a pencil grinder for 12 years in a fine art foundry and thought you might like to know your grinder is running too slow and it chatters real bad at that speed. It would run smoother at twice or three times that speed.

      Order a Hyway top end, they are inexpensive and quality. Thats a good way to start.

    Buddy gave me 372xp x torque that is locked up from straight gas, have s 52mm big bore kit and everything to make it like the original style 372xp, have a degree wheel and everything to start porting, what kind of numbers should I be looking for to make it last?should I rebuild it and run it for a while before I try to port it? I have fixed a few power saws in the last year, a couple smashed and a couple blown up, I have found that I get so much satisfaction from taking a broken down saw and making it new again

    What kind of gains usually exist without changing the port timing? IE: smoothing the ports, gasket matching, getting rid of flash, etc.

    Great video. You are the authority on all things 2 stroke.
    I would love to see a design ive been thinking about for transfer port bridges. But i don't think there is enough metal there to mod and make my design. I think you would have to be a manufacturer and cast it this way.
    My idea is to have one bridge go 30 degrees to the left and the other 30 degrees to the right. Creating a swirl of mixture in the upper.
    Instead of blowing right at each other.
    Is this already a design that is implemented? I have only worked a few saws and i don't own any of the high end saws....yet

    Is it worth opening up transfers on an otherwise stock cylinder for a 272? Watching ironhorse videos he likes to open them up to match the windows but would it have a negative effect without adjusting the timing on the intake and exhaust? Just getting into porting and for the moment have limited tooling but I’d like to try to work on the stock cylinder before installing.

    It would be interesting to wait a couple of these cylinders see how much they weigh maybe even OEM vs. Aftermarket wait and then weigh them again after being thwarted because this is got to be great for the power-to-weight ratio LOL, ever wondered how much material you removed from these things?

    Hi Tinman, would you consider measuring the volume of the chambers before and after porting? It would be a good reference number to see! Obviously more air flow and volume is beneficial for the performance. Muffler mods and volume calculation on the exhaust side also be interesting.

    What might the draw backs be of the removing of the plating at the bottom of the cylinder? Piston support/wear? Thanks for another video!

      It can effect all of those things that why i reccomend going small at first as a fella can get into a lot of trouble in a hurry hogging out things.

    Hej Tinman! I wonder if i can grind down the transfer port and nothing else? Do i need to care about numbers and timing and such if I only grind down the bridge? And also if I do this what will the outcome be faster revving, more top end power or more torque? I really wanna learn to port but the saws I got I use on a regular basis and I don’t wanna damage them so I thought it would be good to learn grinding on the transfer port! Greetings from Sweden.

    How many times have you jumped out of a port and hit the cylinder?
    How much does it take to damage the bore.
    I noticed you clipped the bottom coming out but that wouldn't matter down lower.

      In some cases yes in others no. Maybe this is a great friday night in the shop discussion..

    My only real question is, do you aim the air away from the exhaust port when grinding the transfer port divider? Or just grind it so it splits the air evenly?

      Nevermind, you covered it in the cutaway video. I don't work on saws much but tons of other small 2strokes. These are the best videos on the subject anywhere.

    Can you go too far down with that ramp?
    Like, if you made it so that there wasn't a full circle at the bottom of the piston, would you run into trouble with the skirts not tracking well and rattling around at all?

      Thats a good question, in some cases yes you can go too far. Going too far can effect piston stability and it could effect crank case pressure and how the saw runs.

    Less is more sometimes ... If you lose VELOCITY by hogging out too much you may end up with cylinder ports that LOOK GOOD but won’t perform accordingly

    I thought I’d ask this before you get to final assembly. I watch a variety of TH-cam channels. I saw one where they were installing new bearings. He took the seal off of the old one and showed why it went bad. Then he took the seal off of the new one and showed the lack of grease in the bearings. He greased it and put the seal back in. He said that they won’t have the issue they had before. So my question is have you ever checked to make sure that the bearings were and are properly greased?

      I'm not sure what grease you are referring to?? 2 stroke bearings are lubricated by the oil in the gas.

      @@tinmanssaws I thought they were sealed bearings! I haven’t seen a show where they showed the bearings up close. I saw an episode on another program. They showed some lubrication points some people didn’t know about. It was on the bar side and they shot it with some grease. That was why I asked. I’m just curious and mesmerized by watching the great work that you, Harvey, Bellehopper and Bayou country do on chainsaws! Thank You for replying back to me!

      @@kurtsimmons1587 oh thats the clutch bearing, its needs to be greased regularly.

      @@kurtsimmons1587 new clutch bearings typically don't have any grease in them from what Ive seen.

    I want to know how the dude makes popup piston .
    He said its a secret.
    Looks like he puts coin like shaped metal peice on top of piston and have no idea how it is fastened to top of piston

      Its a flex shaft on a dremel. Same thing I've always used.

    Okay in side the transfer how come you don't want a sharper edge on the devider wall ?

      Knife edged surfaces dont flow as well as round surfaces.
