I bought a Light Bee just for the trails. Have been bumping into people walking on a daily basis. Never ever had any angry people , everybody is just friendly as it's quiet and not so big. When I take my Husqvarna FE350 on the trails.....well , let's just say I don't do that anymore for numerous reasons 🙂

Well if its legal on the trails where you live then those people don't have a leg to stand on so they stay quiet. In a city which has passed a law against it, though, every tom and jerry within earshot of that electric motor is going to be cussing you out. At least, they do me.

I think the only thing that's missed here is the fact that the DRZ will also ride you too the trail no sweat... If its a 30 minute blast down a highway, not sure there's any juice left in that Ultra Bee. So i also have to hage a pick up truck if I want to ride trails with one? Hence I only have a DRZ and it suits me for commuting, trails and the odd ADV tour.
I think its going to be a while till battery tech supports the versatility that 90's and 2000's enduros provide.

So true. I myself am from an island and a gas enduro or on/off bike is the best vehicle. The loop of the island alone is about 170kms of mountain and country roads, there are trails that are 70 kms from my town, electric would be cool, but nowhere near as good for everyday use. I had an XT660R as long as i lived there and it was my only means of transport, an electric bike would never be able to do that

Man... I just love this content.
I was a city boy, used to ride bikes and had a motorcycle for a while, but sold it to move to a small mountain community. The town in on the side of a mountain, and my wife does not drive. I bought us Electric kick scooters, and when hers died, I bought electric pedal bikes. They are legal to ride with no license, cost about 8 cents to charge to full, and can haul our plus sized frames uptown (literally) comfortably. Home trip is faster because gravity.
Two kinds of people noticed us: the ones who laughed, and the ones who asked questions. The ones who asked questions got their own. There are a dozen or more pedal assist and e-scooter riders now. The ones who laughed don't laugh anymore.
I prefer the scooter, it's just more fun to ride, but the bikes are faster due to pedaling, and they can haul more cargo. I'd love an electric motorcycle, but none of them have the range I'd need to take it out of town, and for in town use, I'm already set with what I have.
Times change, and we adapt and grow to suit them. And here I am living in the future... sort of.

    • @Kaiser-ks3yq
      @Kaiser-ks3yq 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'd watch FortNines video on why electric motorcycles are failing - it's very difficult to put a big enough battery in a motorcycle, without making it so big it identifies as a cruiser, which has even greater range requirements, which need a bigger battery, and so on, so it's just unrealistic.

Fantastic video as usual. The point about keeping a dad bod a rad bod is truly understated. Ebikes will keep you fit, so every minute you ride them is like a minute spent at the gym, as long as you push it. A high end model might be $8K, but there are much cheaper models, and you can build your own in a few hours with a $300 used MTB and a $500-1000 kit. Sure, motorcycles can be pushed harder and go faster, but the opportunities to do so are incredibly limited. Meanwhile, you can go all out on an ebike, all the time. In the city, an ebike will get you anywhere within a 5km radius faster than any car or motorcycle. And it doesn't need insurance. And it doesn't need registration. And you can work on it in your living room. And you can store it in a closet. And you can ride on cycling paths. And you can take it wherever you want with a $150 car rack. And you can put it in a bag and fly it. The future is electric for sure. It also doesn't have registration plates and weighs less than 30kg.

This is why I went with an ebike. I got mine used for $1400 and spent about $300 on upgrades and maintenance. Yes, I could have almost gotten an XR150L new or a used CRF125 for not much more.
But I can ride the ebike on city paths for errands or for fun. It can fit in my car or on the bike carrier for driving to trailheads. It's slower than a dirtbike but can do all the same things. And if the battery dies I just pedal it. It weighs less than a dirtbike so I can do riskier lines and not worry about getting crushed by hot exhaust if I fall.

I think the Suring would open the door to play riding legal (maybe semi legal) instead of brappin around with a loud, heavy, plated bike?

@@mikem9953 As you say if youre looking for range it wont be what youre looking for. But riding "around the lake, campgrounds, beaches, little cottage roads + some trails" is what its meant for in my opinion. Sometimes watching all these youtube channels can be a bit deceiving, cause ive noticed i get quite alot more range than most, and its because im not as fast or going wide open alot of the time wich is a big battery drainer. I´ve gone almost 60miles on one charge where as most channels claim they barely get 40. But it sounds like it fits what youre looking for. I do recommend buying a 18/21 wheel setup though, cause the 19/19 front end wants to slip away underneath you at times which i found pretty scary. I cant choose for you, but i can definitely recommend the Ultra Bee! Good luck in deciding!

Enjoyable to watch. I'm a mountain biker myself and just enjoyed how this was all put together, especially the knocks against the eMTB. If I were to get into wanting a dirt bike for trails, the Ultra Bee looks to be a great option to consider, similar price, less maintenance (only question is reliability/serviceability of said motor), all while packing a whole lot of fun in a neat and tidy package (despite its range limitations).

@@444ranger444 Yes... but in the world of any moving parts, there is a wear and tare with a chance of premature failure. In the eMTB world, all brands such as Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano, etc have had some history of their motors failing in some fashion, and generally it seems the answer is replacement vs service/repair. So my note of "serviceability" wasn't so much how often you need to service it, but rather, can it be serviced/repaired vs requiring replacement.
Loosely compare that to a gas engine, where an engine failure can be resolved by way of service/repair vs having to replace the entire engine.

I rode the surron and it’s not terrible, I won’t be trading in my husky for one but they do work. I thought a lot of the parts looked kinda cheap though, He bent the front wheel on its first ride. Be interesting to see how the bike holds up long term. He’s into it 9k after the wheel situation which is a lot compared to the price of a gas bike that has better suspension and likely way better parts availability

And of course being able to use both roads _and_ cycling paths is a massive plus. As far as I'm aware, legally used Surrons are limited to roads and can't even access highway systems. Depending on where you live, you might even be able to cross intersections on both car and pedestrian signals, which significantly shortens trips.

I get where you're coming from and I do agree it would be cool if it got a larger fan base and backing but nothing in my mind will replace the sound of a 2 stroke or even 4 stroke bike. Especially when there's 15+ racing.

There is only one bike right now that can keep up with a 125-240 class and 250-450 class and that is the Starg Varge. 4 stroke motocross bikes are much faster than the ultra bee. Factory race bikes are scary fast pushing almost 80 hp. To race electric motocross with what is available right now you will need a separate class. Even the Stark Varg would struggle to finish one Moto. I got to ride the Stark Varg, but the battery technology is not there yet. It might be 10 years from now. Could be sooner but I doubt it. Each race moto is 30 minutes of full power going to the wheels for most of the Moto. You also have 2 motos. It will be quite a while before we see electrics in AMA Pro and AMA Pro-Am. ECR has enduro races for electrics which is pretty cool because it is all electrics. Any electric dirbike can enter.

I rode the Caofen (Kay-Eff-Enn) at this year's ABR, and was blown away by how manoueverable, light, and quick it was. 57mph was the top speed I managed on the roads which, given the width of the tyres and the brakes, was more than fast enough. Absolute joy to ride, and blitzed past bigger, more powerful bikes and their more experienced riders. Love them.

Range is the Shangri La for the Bee and its ilk.. I hope they find it. The single track I ride on my KTM 300 xcw is steep, and chunky. It's not just miles on flat ground, it is thousands of feet of vertical on technical terrain throughout the day. Some rides are 10 hours.

I would buy the electric bike if it sold for around $3K. At $8K, there are way too many great used bikes out there. I'd also like to see the electric to the TAT. If they standardized batteries in all EV's and you could walk into a store and do a quick battery swap then the EV would be a much more viable option.

I love the idea of the electric dirt bike for sessions near the house due to simplicity , noise and ease of riding. I have a WR250F and a Trek Rail ebike. They each have their niche for the trails I ride and where i see electric DBs falling short for me is riding trips. When camping there is no good way to recharge it without a noisy generator or staying at an RV park which defeats the purpose of the trip. I like the 160km range of gas for long days of trail riding with a spare 5gal at camp for the next day. Even though I ride 70% door to door from my house I will still need a gas bike for the other 30% so it doesn't make sense for me. As always, a great video!
