This entire album was just a celebration of her sexuality, which had been watered down by her father and her reputation as the younger sister of the Jackson 5. She was also happily married at this time, and it shows. It’s one of the best albums of the 90s, and this song is a great representation.

I was 15 when this came out and let me tell you this was one of the biggest albums that year..this song was EVERYWHERE!! This is the Era where she looked absolutely delicious!

These lyrics are so sexually explicit but most of them go over your head on the first listen due to the nature of her low and fast rap like verses. I mean, oh my gawd, she's straight up singing about Bjs and no one seemed to bat an eyelid lol

God bless the 90's! It also helps that she became a real beauty as she got older, whether naturally or assisted. This is my favorite of her videos, and made an unforgettable impression on me in my youth. Once she reached this point her hits seemed effortless, coming one after another. And after growing up under her father as she had, you could only pull for her to realize continued success.
And she always had the nerve to not sing the word “lips” when she performed this song live as if that was the most explicit word out of the whole verse 😂. I mean it’s Janet, Miss Jackson if ya nasty. The same woman who was grabbing dudes’ crotches during “Would You Mind” on the All For You tour. She don’t give a damn.
This was her 'comeback' song where she went from her covered up, good-girl style to a much barer, toned-abs look and more sexual lyrics. Janet Jackson was pretty much the reigning queen of my childhood musical scene, and I clearly remember her two looks: this was definitely the inception of Janet 2.0.
Janet actually premiered the toned-abs and more sexualised image in the video for 'Love Will Never Do (Without You) in October 1990, two and a half years before the release of 'If'. The late Herb Ritts, who directed that video, wanted to showcase Janet as "fresh, sensual, womanly and vulnerable" (his words, not mine) and was responsible for the pared back cleavage baring black top and pair of jeans look that Janet showcased in the video. This more sensual look was also very much evident in the video for 'That's The Way Love Goes', the actual "comeback" single that preceded this one in 1993.

True story, a guy in college once told me I looked like Janet Jackson, I don't know if it was a line or not, but it worked for him! Lol 🤫 He got laid! 🤭 This was during the Velvet Rope time. I would say she gets plenty of credit for being a talented dancer, she's been cited as an inspiration time and time again. Singing on the other hand, not quite as much.
She had a record breaking 4 album 80$ million dollar contract, bigger than Madonna and Micheals, so she definitely commands respect.

As a dancer, Janet is so legendary. All Nite (Don't Stop) is still one of the best dances and songs ever for me, and that video was sexy AF, def recommend if anyone hasn't seen it. It's iconic.

Also "Deep" for a more funky side of Janet the video is also a different look from her normal high production videos! You also need to check out the If 12 extended mega mix it's a whole different vibe that got lots of radio play back in the day. Love how you younger guys are reacting to songs from back in the day! I can totally understand why you needed water. I remember when this song came out and she went on tour, and opened with this song. I was lucky and had tickets on the 2nd row, right in the middle, and when the lights came on, she was kneeled down at the edge of the stage, like 6 feet away from me, like a frozen statue, and taking in the audience going wild cheering her on. She was staring straight in front of her for at least a minute...which is where I was standing and I could have sworn our eyes caught each other and I felt my heart beating in my throat! Fortunately I didn't get a heart attack, LOL!

I was about 15 when this song/album came out. That dance was spicy back in the day and still is. I wasn’t allowed to buy the album because according to my parents, it was “too risqué”. That didn’t stop me from going to my friend’s house and listening to it though!
