I think this is a really instructive breakdown. I, personally, don't see the Mets tying up 12+ years with two high-priced players. I don't think Vladdy is on the radar, personally. Maybe I'm wrong. But I expect the Mets to sign Pete for 3 years, then another bat ... quite possibly Winker. And then a couple of bullpen arms. And I think that'll be it.
Met fans seem to crave the shiny object. I agree with you. Having Vlad and Soto on 14 and 15 yr deals means that they will be saddled with overpriced players who could wind up like Jose Abreu. Do you want to pay a player 40 or 50 million to hit 200?
I believe Guerrero Jr will become a met to team up with Soto for the Dominican connection and the fact the Mets are one of few teams with bilingual head coach. He will be great in this lineup
I've totally soured on acquiring Vlad, because I'm reading he wants 13 years. That kind of contract is for an athlete who is lean with a smaller build. You don't give lifetime contracts to guys with heavy builds, much less to someone with ongoing weight problems like Vlad. Remember Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder? Short careers.
This Vlad jr talk is for next year, how about not throwing away this year. Mets got to get a couple of bats, trade for a staring pitcher and aquire some bullpen help.
25:00 I love how you talk about the home runs being a pretty big difference, but you just totally gloss over the 40 point difference in average😂just like Soto Vlad hasn’t even hit his prime yet…Pete is past his prime
They said the same thing last year when we didn’t sign any real big free agent pitchers that they were waiting for burns to hit free agency. Burns came and went and the Mets were barely even mentioned . So why not sign Pete then sign Vlad they can take turns at DH And first place
This is all ridiculous. First, not signing Pete because Vlad is currently scheduled to be a FA next season is dumb. Like it's a given he'll be with the Mets.. Suppose the Jay's sign him during the season? Or, the Dodgers decide to shift 35 year old Freeman to DH and blow Guerrero away with an offer? And waiting 4 years for someone like Gunnar, who will also turn 28 during that first FA season? His HR output increased by 9 this season, and his RBI total only increased by that same 9. And he led the league with 25 errors, all at SS last season. Elly de la Cruz led the NL with 29. So much for that superior defense. If Oneil Cruz hadn't snuck in with 26 for the Pirates, they would have finished 1-2 for the most errors in all ob baseball. Lindor, with 4 years still left on his deal at that point, would still be doing better that. And as long as your just blindly throwing numbers out, how about a 10 year, $500 million deal? $50 million each of the first 5 years, plus a $50 million signing bonus. Then, $20 million for the final 5. Then $10 million a year deferred for 10 years.
Yes, it looks like they are! There are finally reports linking the two… including Mike deportes and Hector Gomez saying the Mets are pushing hard for Vladimir and the Mets are putting a package together to present to Toronto
I think it’s nonsense. Rogers is offering Vlad a contract very close to what he wants. he is not giving vlad away after signing him to 28 million this year
@ if they can’t come to an agreement y not trade him? If they’re not willing to pay him now when he’s at his cheapest before other teams can fit up the offer they’re not gonna do it in the off-season. Just like Lindor it makes sense to put a package together for him and make a trade
Sure. If they're stupid, they should wait for Vladdy because it's a guarantee he'll sign with them. Just because the Mets are your favorite team doesn't mean they're Vladdy's. Get a grip.
I suspect Clifford could give us 90% of what Alonso gives for a minimum wage salary. 35 homers and a .210 b.a. with 200 KS is a realistic target for Clifford. Why pay 40 million a year more to get an extra 5-10 homers and 10-20 points of b.a.? Put those 40 million dollars into pitching.
I think we should just sign Pete 3 years after 2nd year, he can opt out .I would put a lot of incentives for him if he needs to be motivated .There is no way we sign Vlad too much money and are not guaranteed to get him .Vlad is not the answer
You are being very deceptive. Alonso's higher power stats mean nothing because His production was done in a much less meaningful situations. Check it out. That makes Vlad much more valuable all around. Not even comparable.
Vladdy hit 48 in 2021 in the middle of an absolutely stacked lineup. Since then he's hit 32, 26 and 30. Less meaningful situations? When you're the only run producer in your lineup besides your leadoff guy every situation is meaningful. I'm not going wste time poring over splits, but I watch every single Mets game and I would guess that at least half of his career hrs were with men on base, and close to half in mid-high leverage at bats.
And now i just checked it out...Of 160 career hrs for Vladdy 94 have been in low leverage situations, 53 in medium leverage and only 13 in high leverage situations. 197 of his 506 rbi have been in low leverage, 201 mid, 109 high. Pete Alonso of 226 hrs: 120 low, 89 medium, 17 high. Of 586 rbi, 225 were low, 249 medium and 112 high leverage. So, 58.75% of Vladdy's hrs were in low leverage situations and 53.09 of Alonso's were in low leverage. 41.25 of Vlad's hrs were in mid-high leverage, and 46.90 of Pete's were in mid-high leverage. In rbi they are nearly identical with Vlad at 61.1% mid-high and Pete 61.6% mid-high. So yeah check it out. You weren't even close, so I'm guessing you had no idea and just threw that out. Either way you were flat out wrong, but don't let that stop you...
@chingulin no I wasn't. I don't know what method You used, but I now understand why You are so deceptive. Last season alone, Pete left over 300 men on base, by far leading the league. 88 rbi's leaving over 300 men on base was not only atrocious, but Pete also drove a number of those runs with outs. Apparently, Steve Cohen and David Sterns are in agreement with Me running Him out of town. THEY DONT WANT HIM for those reasons. What is being just thrown out there, as You say, is Your deceptive methods of figuring.
@@markgreene8186 dude, fangraphs, do your homework, look under leverage. Deceptive? i gave you stats, you're just talking shit. Off the top of my head, just on hrs he drove in 51 of the 88 rbi he had in 2024. I don't have time for someone who doesnt know what he's talking about so i'm not gonna look at the splits again, but i watch every game and remember him driving in runs on singles and doubles...and since he had 112 hits that were not hrs (81 singles and 31 doubles) last year, it's pretty obvious you have no idea. Brother your argument is we should wait for gunner for four years ?😂😂😂😂😂 brother your take is ridiculous… I’m sorry, man but you’re out of this world with both of these takes and they’re only getting worse with the gunner take…. Wait four years for gunner Henderson? Whaaaat?
So far: huge upgrade in Right. No 1B. Same or lesser staff. Not good yet.
Much lesser staff!!!
I don't get the argument that vlad is better. With a few less AB. Pete has more runs, more honeruns, more RBI and more walks. Vlad is better contact hitter sure. But Pete is far from dog water.
Do people honestly think vlad is going to come in and be elite for 10 years? Dudes already showed signs of a lack of work ethic as he's had issues with weight in the past. Do we believe he is going to sign a 15 year deal and not just fall off? Guarantee you this. He is fat, slow, and worthless by his age 30 seaso if he is on a long term deal.
No, Pete Alonso forever 🎉
This Vlad stuff is just conjecture.
Vlad isn’t even in his prime yet!!!!
Those numbers will climb!!
STOP playing GM with your hearts please ‼️
I vote no....too many ego's on the team.
Vlad Jr anyday over Pete lol, homegrown is sentimental I understand that , but you have to do what’s best for the team
We don’t need this guy
