    As a long time Warmachine player (Retribution of Scyrah, Ios for ever!) I have really enjoyed the MK4 change. Over the last year it brought lots of great new models, a breath of fresh air to the rules and scenarios, and a nice progression of the story line
    Really looking forward to Warmachine in 2024.

    Warmachine was the game that brought me back to miniatures gaming two decades after giving up on the games available back then, and while I have had a few breaks now and then and play many other games, it's the game I keep playing.
    The rules and gameplay (that is the main draw for many) aside, it also has its own world with deep lore and people in the company who care a lot about the Iron Kingdoms.
    When it comes to the initial run of Cygnar models, well, I drop tested mine and pinned those that broke before painting. Haven't had a lot of issues after that.

    I always loved Warmachine... but negating not one but two entire factions of mine (Menoth and Circle) in the narrative reboot was kind of the end for me. It's hard to want to spend another $2000 on a new collection when your previous $4000+ collection just got relegated to the dustbin of history.

      but you CAN still play them, they've said that repeatedly. They aren't CURRENTLY getting the new models and sculpts for the Mk IV timeline (yet), but every model in the range has rules, and is legal for play.

      I'm in the same boat. Friends and I started in MK2 and played some of MK3 and we've completely fell out of love with the game when 40k started to not suck anymore. Now we're stuck with full faction of models from 3 factions that no one wants. Might end up donating it at this point.

    Switching from WH40K to Warmachine 10+ years ago was for me like switching from Snakes and Ladders to chess. I was in shock to see how smart the game was and how intellectually rewarding it could be when you managed to pull off a complex plan using its incredibly deep toolbox in creative, unexpected ways. It has its flaws, but at the same time its design is way ahead of what GW offers even on their best days.
    Great video, btw. I think the only thing that could be added is pictures of actual models in the beckground - especially when you discuss them. But maybe it's a thing for another WM video :)

    I've been playing Warm hordes for a long time, and I have no regrets. My favorite part of it is just the jokes that happen on the table. That and there are some fun combinatoric mechanics that can get silly if you put too much effort into it.

  • @earnestwanderer2471

    I played back in MK2, I think the reason that IGOUGO worked better than in 40k was (is?)... it’s not really a group of units vs a group of units. It’s a war caster vs a war caster. The individual units are almost an extension of the leader’s abilities/weapons. The fact that you could instantly win by killing the opposing leader enhanced this feeling that it was really a one v one game.

    • @Alino-
      @Alino- 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IGOUGO is why i struggle to play 40k and have struggled to get a community together for it. Nobody wants to wait 30+ minutes just sorta eating a slim jim and drinking a coke waiting for their turn. I have always preferred how games like Star Wars: Legion handles it, where each player takes turns activating units.
      I remember trying Warmachine/hordes back in like 2015/2016(?) when it blew up really massively. My entire playgroup switched to it back then from 40k. I remember playing those cool Gatormen (would probably play those guys again if I got back into the game, LOL)
      I've been thinking for awhile now about getting stuff for it again but the game seems like it died out a few years ago.

Everyone kind off thought the same in my meta and no one plays anymore. The WTC showed this really well. After corona it had a hard time but there were still like 50 teams. I collected a decent bit of Warmachine models, and played it a bit, during Mk2 and it's first 3 or 4 expansion books... I LOVED that game, it's feel, it's mechanics, and the stories in the books... I haven't seen any PP stuff in any of the stores lately , and have no idea where I'd even go within a couple hours of here to try to find people playing this game... I'd love to make some of the old minis see a table again. I had a decent bit of Mercs to add into my armies... Cygnar and Khador mainly, with some Menoth... and I always wanted a Hordes army of Trollbloods...
    I wish I could find some folks to try Mk4 with, as well as some people playing Shatterpoint. I'll have to look back at your channel, but have you tried shatterpoint much? If so, do you find it to be a fun game, or easy to teach some people to play?

Warmachine was appealing for me in that I could get the old battlegroups with 4 miniatures for like 30 bucks, give or take. Now the battlegroups are down to three miniatures for $70? The only real negative I have of it is that the UI scaling is really really tiny and I can't read things and everything is hard to click.

    I haven't seen a MKIV faction that sold me yet (Cryx is looking aight, though), but if they drop a good-looking, not-too-busy Rhulic battlegroup (with customizable Warjacks!), it'd be an auto-buy for me.

    great explanation! I hope this video brings more people to appreciate this magnificent game.
    I'll give you a quick correction, the Orcs exist, they are called Ogrun, as well as goblins, called Gobbers.
    They are a race in danger of becoming extinct like the dwarves, who in the lore, have been enemies for years, who have almost definitively destroyed each other, until a truce and a friendship was born, and in this friendship pacts were also born, many dwarves cut their beards to remember the pact of friendship and memory of the war. Orcs are found in the dwarf faction the Rhulic, others are found in mercenary and pirate factions.
    in addition to the difference in rules between Mk3 and Mk4, in lore and style, it changes from steampunk to DieselPunk.
    Khador abandons old steam and their old engines to power their Jacks, and they discover gasoline, thus creating new and more powerful engines enchanted with arcane pistons and no longer just arcane gears.

    As I said in other Videos. I believe they should sell the STLs for the rest of the World that doesn't have a way to import these, making more market penetration. The STL could have a different sculpt from the ones sold physical on the their store. If they do it in some kind of subscription how Mantic is doing, they should have more income to keep releasing more models and lore quicker making the game more popular faster and earning more money in the process.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I personally don't want to 3d print my own models. And I understand that Privateer is set up all around selling their physical models. But I agree that there should be some sort of option for STL files. I don't know what exactly. I understand they don't want to just hand out every file... But yeah I think they need to do something

    • @V0IV0DE
      @V0IV0DE 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GlassHalfDead what I meant is having both options(Physical and 3D Files), like Mantic is doing. There are people who have to 3D print if they want to game. I think there is a demand for both markets at the same type of game. For example, I used to play a lot of MK2; the import costs in my country were more feasible back in the day. Right now, if I want to play something that comes from UK or US, if I don't 3d print, I can't play, but I'm more than glad to pay for some subscription or files. I know this is some impediment that other players who don't live in first world countries sometimes have to face. At the end, making a game more accessible is equals more people playing it.

    • @Terroreyes-j8l
      @Terroreyes-j8l 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mantic experimenting with STLs as a viable product and Privateer Press experimenting with print farming (which everyone said would end the company) does not make one business better than the other.
      These are small companies using their nimbleness to compete with the GW juggernaut.
      That said Half Glass 🍷 seems to be focusing more on the core rule differences rather than the business practices. On that side of things, outside of the exploding eights, Mantic plays a lot like 40k.
      Basically models that roll dice at each other Vs Models holding a strategic placement on the board in an evolving puzzle 🧩
      Some players really like one and hate the other and vice versa. It's a pretty hard dividing line in terms of preference.
      Like, even if GW started giving away STLs tomorrow I wouldn't even grab them, just because I'm not interested in that style of game.
      I'm a Tetris brain 🧠 not a dice 🎲 🧠, and I like unraveling the puzzle 🧩 more than rolling the dice 🎲 buckets.

    I think it always needs to be mentioned, that the biggest difference between warmachine and any Warhammer game, and what makes one feel so much more competitive/unforgiving than the other, is the fact that there is absolutely no randomisation in your charges in warmachine. (Unless that changed in mk4 as I haven't played or looked). But this was one of the main reasons why so often newer players get absolutely smashed in war machine... And the biggest reason I could never get get any of my more casual friends into war machine.. because they get minced so hard by juggling threat ranges

    • @Terroreyes-j8l

      You can pre measure your charges before committing and the charges are not randomised in Warmachine.

    Taking the plunge on Mark 4 is a big expensive gamble. They casually killed their range and started 3d printing on essentially consumer grade 3d printing hardware from the looks of it. There were reports of uncured models with resin leaking early on, a lot of broken models in the packaging, and under cured airships in some of the newer ranges that were floppy. They are also on par in price as GW for something you could get on Etsy. I always liked the rules system but the company is run poorly and they have killed a lot of the communities worldwide with mark 4

      Curious, i have not seen anything about uncured resin since the first wave and even then it was proven to be overreaction of the person. And those things blow up in facebook like crazy.
      As for being on par with gw in prices, i will get more gaming value from the two army boxes than buying a gw battleforce and vanguard box. And the price is around the same, depending on your dealer and country of course.

      I mean any report of uncured resin should be taken seriously, but it definitely was more than one person and I dont think anything was ever proven - a lot of he said she said. And the amount of gaming you get out of it is purely subjective and a choice to play or the groups you have around you. Also I did say the price is similar, but for consumer grade resin prints its not a great value. Enjoy it if you want, but see it as a short term investment and not a real alternative to main stream games.

      @@TheVar666 of course cant remember for sure but considering the companys good track record on customer service, i would say it was sorted out. Of course cant be sure.
      As for game value, i talk in the context of larger competetive meta that the game has. And which is growing back again slowly. Any game apart from gw is a risk, but if you have a decent meta, the game is a good alternative to gw for a good rules set.
      I admit i the initial prints were bad but the current ones have been good and i dont really miss the hassle of gap filling etc ive had with my 40k/aos projects.

      Not more expensive than any other gamble in the Wargaming space 🌌🚀.
      Especially since one army box gets you in.
      You could spend 1000+ dollars 💵 playing a game that is popular only to find out that, not only are you not good at it, but you don't find the mechanics entertaining.
      As always everyone should explore and play games that they actually have fun playing. And not one game will be all things to all people.

      @@Lukkimusya, when a business takes a risk to right the ship there will always be bumps. Luckily, I've had no issues with my product so far but PP has really good customer service. When I've had problems in the past they just replaced stuff no questions asked.
