The Reddit AMA: www.reddit.com/r/Warmachine/s/qTu8yarmOS SO IS THIS GOOD OR BAD? On the positive note: the IP and business model in general was obviously successful enough to be purchased. All the naysayers would have told you the IP would never sell. But it's now alongside Horizon zero dawn, dark souls, and Monster Hunter. And who cares about the negative note. Life sucks, the world is in shambles, I'm going to be positive about my silly little toy hobby!
If it helps the Iron Kingdoms stay as an intriguing universe for people to participate in, then it's awesome. I have seen games that were sold to another company like Battletech, Dungeons and Dragons, and games that should have been sold to another company like O.G.R.E or Dark Age. In the end I prefer universes to stick around than vanish and all we have is one or two from the same company.
Overall, if what this collaboration is, is that Privateer will continue on mini and games design and Steamforged had entered the picture for their manufacturing and marketing which are generally the games weaknesses then I can only imagine this will be for the better.
Ha, yeah, I went for it on those lol. I don't know how the zoomers handles it. I'm actually just shocked anyone watches the video. I listen to stuff as I hobby and barely look at the screen!
I'm optimistic - I just hope they do the aggressive product line that this game needs to keep growing. Definitely would like to see cards and Forces of books again. I just got back into the game after a few years (haven't been able to play yet lol), so this is definitely surprising.
Considering Privateer Press's two biggest weaknesses were Marketing and Production... partnering with someone whose strengths are marketing and production should be good! Fingers crossed. MKIV is really good. It would be awful if it nose dived now.
Yeah I don't think it was skirmish. BUT I do think Brawlmachine was amazing for Warmachine and seems silly that they didn't incorporate it properly into warmachine.
Sorry if somebody else already chimed in, but the timeline you explained seems off concerning the PPers leaving for AMG. Not a big deal and definitely difficult to research.
Well... I hope you are right. Personally i really had only positive experiences with PP, and it was really encouraging to see mk4 doing well and stock flying of the store. Of course i hope PP staff will be ok and i really hope their talent, passion and vision will keep shaping warmachine and iron kingdoms. That being said it might be nice to have a good production and distribution centre in the UK. Perhaps we might even have hobby tools back from Formula P3 back (brushes, files, primers). I am however not particularly keen on the soft plastic. I think PP old metal and new 3d printed models were great. And i really don't want to see them replaced with soft plastic.
I've finished the hobby. That was the hardest part! I did the scripts. I recorded the scripts. Now I just need the visuals. I say... Last week of June. Maybe first week of July
It wouldn't be the first time wargames and RPGs were in main line shops. Back in 198-Idontwantotthinkaboutit I brought red box D&D in John Lewis, and Virgin stores used to have an extensive RPG and tabletop section, especially at the height of the popularity of World of Darkness. I got my first copy of BattleTech from there.
Quadruple hello to you, good Sir! Being someone that played from the very beggining (when you only needed a warcaster and 4 other models), I was happy to see the game pick up steam once more for 4th edition. So hopefully, they´ll continue upwards, if not, then I´ll be glad that I didn't get into the game once more
I am of two minds... one is excited that maybe we can see a return to mk2 glory given they are warmachine players... And trepidation given the history of guildball and godtear... I enjoy both games but they have been horribly neglected by steamforged. Also their kickstarter addiction terrifies me.
I think partnering with PP may see a resurection of Guildball. SFG was never about competitive play clearly but I think if they allow PP rules writers team get their hands on it we may see it in the future with SFG games continuing to work on models and their boardgames
Warmachine and hordes were hands down infinitely better then any rule set created by Needed to think and be tactical. Not to mention the miniatures are amazing. In days gone past I would always recommend it over 40k. A cheaper and far better game. Privateer Press dropped the ball on this game years ago and totally failed to invigorate it. Could this be a good thing? I hope so. I loved the game and minis and would be so stoked to see it make a return. Am I sceptical? Yes . I’ll celebrate when I see things improve.
for me it can only be positive, right now i just tried to get back in the game, bought a starter army core set, what arrived was an expansion set, no warjacks. people i bought it from have no stock, no idea when they will get stock and cant give a time line at all stating several months is common. so i have an unplayable army but whats worse, it arrived damaged too. just an aweful first purchase thats giving me buyers remorse. having a uk based company can ONLY be better than this. xD
IDK anything about Steamforged. I only knew PP because of Warmachine & Hordes. I do love Iron Kingdoms/Immoren lore tho. Is SFG best known for wargames, RPGs or board games? I am hoping we get a better TTRPG b/c I don't play 5E. It's own game like the original Iron Kingdoms & Hordes RPG would be fuggin' epic
ok so with magnets then out this then takes away from what most of the new armies and game for mk 4 have been designed around if they do end up killing the 3d printed models and magnets that means zero customizing with your jacks etc and then having to spend even more money for the other now jack varieties dont get me wrong doing soft plastic for character stuff like jacks that have no load outs to swap in and out would be fine but all the custom work you can do or bring would then be gone if they kill the magnet stuff
I hope Warmachine is made more available to causal pickup gamers again. If it's the tournament players who provide the money, it's the casuals who become the tournament players. If you can't get into the game, it can't expand. Make the game fun again.
What SFG is doing with WM / IK is not really any different than what they do (pretty well) with Video games. They're taking an existing IP and putting it on the tabletop.
I feel like there's some very relevant info here. Rich Loxam, Mat Hart, and Jamie Perkins at SFG are all old hands at Warmachine. Back when I was a Press Ganger, Privateer's volunteer scheme, I was running events they were playing in (Like the UK Games Expo Masters back when there was one of those). They know where the game has come from, where it headed, and given Jamie P is still a dab hand at running people into the ground they know where it is now. Will they be able to do anything for it? That's a question above my pay grade, but I think given their past they'll put a good shove behind it. We'll see where that gets us.
SFG has really been knocking it out of the park with their recent model offerings. I play both the Dark souls and Monster Hunter Board games regularly. They're recent next evolution of model creation with hard plastics really has me excited as they have been very transparent and communicative about the upcoming Monster Hunter Worlds: Iceborne release. Also crazy they now are in control of P3 paints that may just get an overhaul itself if they can perhaps copy Army Painter strategy of bringing on experienced painters and hobbyist. I wonder if SFG would bring back Guild ball and allow Privateer Press to revive the game and maintian it competitively. This merger could really be successful if managed correctly.
MK4 felt like a trash fire privateer press miss managed with a number of bad decisions and bad luck. I really look forward to seeing what Steamforge Games does with Warmachine. They already seem to be on the right track with their statements.
I would say this is a good thing. Steamforged can bring better distribution and marketing to warmachine. With PP handling dev for certain time we should not see problems for the game in recent years. Also with sfg using PP for american production and being more open to using european manufacturers should give eu playerbase better service.
Everyone who made anything I liked about the game is long gone. The Seacat... Will, so many people who made the game great. ALL gone. There is no one there
gotta stop you there. SFG is no longer working with soft plastics. Their recent Monster Hunter Worlds Iceborne kickstarterer has unvieled the first hard plastic models for that game and all other recent kickstarters. Im willing to bet PP had something to do with decision moving forward as war machine is a huge move for them
I really enjoyed the novels. Silly scholoky fun for the most part, just how I like it. BUT they only would have stopped if it wasn't making them money, and it's hard to argue with that :(
