In your position at Katerra how much authoring IE (designing) did you do in Revit? Or did you only work with content provided from Eng, Arch, and Subs?
Sorry Clay, I thought I had replied to this last year. To answer your question, we mainly work with content provided by other stakeholders. Then we clash and QA/QC the model and coordinate with everyone on a weekly basis
I want to know what resources must be available within the company in order to move to work on BIM For example: Computer specifications Internet Specifications Do I need a server?
Computer specs - go for the highest RAM. 64GB is ideal. You don't need a server. Internet specs just go with the best wifi. 250mbps and above should be good.
Sorry i thought I've replied to this. Basically a BIM Modeler focuses solely on creating new Revit models (in industry term, we call it "Revit Families"). BIM Engineers' job is to vet the models and to a quality check. Run clash detection and coordinate with subcontractors. Hope that helps.
Other questions please 1) Can you also use archicad as a BIM software rather then revit?? 2) Can BIM also be used in the design of bridge?? 3) What about us freshers that haven't yet use BIM360 desig collaboration b/c the are obligated paid software !! Hope the is no problem asking a lot of questions Thanks and have a nice day sir
No, Archicad does not work as well as Revit, which is a lot more versatile when it comes to workflows. BIM can be used to design a bridge. But a separate engineering calculation needs to be done elsewhere. Typically a structural engineer would do the calculation, then a BIM Modeler would use the right type of bridge to be placed in the model. If you are still a student, you are able to sign up for Autodesk's free trial.
If I know 3d modeling in revit...do I can be named as a BIM expert???... I am confused... Bcz when I come across a job hunt I was asked a question like do you have experience in Revit BIM ...what does it mean...plz reply...
Sorry for the late response. Revit is just 1 of many softwares used by BIM Engineers. To be an expert, you have to also know how to use Navisworks and AutoCAD. Yes during a job hunt you will be asked if you know how to use any of the softwares listed above.
Sorry bud, I don't know any MS program in BIM specifically, but what I could tell you based on my own personal experience is that you could pursue a MS degree in construction management with an emphasis in BIM. That would open up doors of opportunities for you.
Does becoming a BIM manager or BIM specialist needed a degree? Or just A vocational training with international Autodesk Certificate for starting for work
Honestly most BIM Managers/Specialist I know carry either an architectural / Construction management degree. But if you do not want to pursue a degree, you may start off as a BIM technician. Yes, start taking autodesk lessons and obtain as many certificates as you can. Then put that on your resume and apply for BIM jobs. Hope that helps.
Hi Trey, Thank you for this great video! I am thinking to come back to construction industry after 10 years pause. By doing so, I wish to complete my Master degree first. Perhaps it's slightly different from BIM subject, but what are the essential structural engineering software programs nowadays?
Hi Gabor, when I was a BIM Engineer I had worked with structural BIM Modelers and they mainly use Revit, Tekla structures, or ArchiCAD. I haven't heard of any other softwares for structural engineering. However, I'm pretty sure you will get exposed to it during your graduate program. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.
Depends on the country you're in, but i'll give you the most used softwares, you have Etabs, Robot Structural analysis, sap 2000 and STAAD Pro good luck
Hey buddy, honestly it depends on your personality type. If you are someone who likes to imagine and express your creativity, then definitely architecture would be a great fit for you. If you are someone technical and likes to solve problems, then structural/civil engineering would be best for you. In my opinion, stay away from architecture because you'd have to work long hours and the salary is generally lower than engineering.
I have recently persued architecture degree and want to work as a BIM engineer. Being known that ArchiCAD is a BIM software I have been working on it since three years and wanted to know if I could use the same software during BIM project management as parallel software to Revit in such construction workflow. Please guide me.
I see your point. But the thing is if you want to fully dive into BIM alone, then you have to adapt to the various software that BIM Engineers use. ArchiCAD is great, but for Architects. Bim Engineers never touch that software. If I were you, get good at Revit, then from there you could be a BIM Engineer before becoming a BIM Manager. Hope that helps. Good luck!
I m civil engg..now working as structural drafter by using revit structure. .i known revit architecture &structure. .it's enough for bim modeller job? Otherwise. Shall i learn mep?
Your type of BIM modeling would be structural beams and columns and not so much the Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing. However, yes if you are interested in MEP definitely start playing around with Revit MEP. Good luck and do update us on your progress! :)
yes, learning about BIM and Revit from TH-cam is a good way to start. Then you may want to add it to your resume and apply for an entry level BIM position. Good luck!
thank you so much trez, but what a bout the advanced BIM, do you have any advice, because all of courses are soooo expensive, is ot any other way or suggestion?,thank you again..
Sorry just saw this, yes it's possible. However, it depends on the standard your company is using. In America, the industry standard mandates that we use Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp. Again, depending on your company and what available resource they would provide.
@@TreyTan thank you . Is it necessary to get some kind degree like Masters in Bim or by mastering all the softwares you mentioned in video is enough to be a Bim engineer? Also there some universities in uk which offers 1/2 course of bim should I do these courses?
@@ruturajhegana1164 It is not necessary to get Masters. A bachelor's degree in Archi, Civil, or Construction could get you an entry-level position. However, if you're from a different background (graphic design, film), and you would like to get into BIM, then yes, take the master's degree or enroll in BIM courses.
Yes you can but you would start as a BIM Modeler who will not be running coordination meetings. Employers also want to see that you have obtained some BIM certifications - Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD.
Hi Trey! I would like to know the process and time it takes for the project to start. I am guessing you start with the architectural and MEP designs, then with their info, you start modeling the 3D, and then pass it to the construction team? How long does it take you to build a model (at least ready to start building the project)? How long does it take for the project to be ready for construction? Hope you can help me with these questions!
Exactly the same question that hit my mind while I was watching the video.. Finger Crossed and looking forward to listing from Trey. I presume the Construction cannot START unless the Building Modelling is 100% completed (Initial BIM) and then at later stages, during the execution, any changes required will be incorporated... let's see what does trey has to tell us.
Great Question Maria and Irfanullah! Correct, the 3D model has to start from Architectural and MEP and as part of the BIM team, our job is to make sure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to systems, coordinates, formatting, units, etc. Now this varies from company to company, but for us at Katerra, we DO NOT create the 3D model unless said otherwise. We would take these models from Arch, MEP, Struct, and put them together where it aligns geometrically, perform clash detection, QA/QC, create estimates for construction estimating team (per floor level, per building, per category, etc). Usually we pass it to the construction team when it is about 70% done, where clashes are almost fully resolved, no misalignments when various models are synced, and it looks ready for production. Based on my experience, the construction team mainly require 2D floor plans with dimensions (piping, electrical, furnitures, wood work, structural, etc). Your job is to assist them as much as possible in regards to printing these 2D sheets as most of them do not know how to use Revit. Depending on the project size, it could take somewhere between 4-6 months. Huge projects typically take around 8-10 months to reach 70-80% completion. Hope this helps!
@@irfanullah007 Ideally speaking, construction can start as soon as Arch is about 50% while structural is about 30% completed. However, in the real world, construction usually start when Arch is about 40% while structural is 20%. What goes first is excavation/demolition. Then concrete foundations (Structural design) as per the Architectural dimensions. Basically you could think of it as a shell with no furnishings. But to prevent delays, construction team would go first to prepare the site work.
@@TreyTan Isn't 20%-40% a low percentage to start a job? Maybe that is why there are so many disagreements between PM and Architects during construction? Thank you for your answers! I feel the BIM subject is still "new", especially in schools and unless you are working and putting in on practice, it's hard to understand it.
Good point! Archicad may have laid the groundwork, but Revit has took over and is now the most commonly used software for BIM. Or at least in my experience.

Yes I have heard of Masters in BIM based out in the UK but not so sure about America. For online Masters, Arizona State University offers a Construction Management Program online. However, it is not specifically focused on BIM.
Thank you for the video. I'm an electrical engineering student and I am interested in BIM, could you give me any advice on where to start. Thank you in advance
Sorry for the late reply. Since you are a student, try taking BIM courses to learn Revit at school. If it is not offered in school, then try learning online for free. Start with TH-cam.
Really nice video mate, really helpful. Now I have a tricky question for you. I am 46 years of age, with several years of experience, in the exhibition sector 10, as a designer/project manager ( good knowledge of AutoCAD-BricsCAD currently studying Revit, 3 hours a day for the past 2 months :) ). Due to this COVID 19, I lost my job and I am willing to enter the BIM environment as I believe it is a more stable sector rather than the exhibitions. What are the first 3 steps, you would advise me to take, based on your experience?
That's great. Honestly, you are well qualified in this industry and with the right resume and approach, you could easily get a job in BIM. I would advise you to look at LinkedIn careers and search for BIM positions. BIM/VDC engineer is a good start. But if I were you, I would look for Project Manager positions since the salary is higher and you already have years of experience.
It depends if you are planning to do it online or in person. I recommend starting with free courses first where you can learn from global-e-training or linkedin or youtube. Hope that helps.
Could u please suggest me any idea about BIM in construction project management for my post graduation project ? I have learnt Revit software and I don’t know any other software which u have named in the video. So how can I proceed with BIM
That's great! Yeah, what we did in school was to build a 3D house using Revit and showcase that to the class. Honestly, if you want to proceed with BIM, Revit is the main software to use, followed by Navisworks and AutoCAD.
That's great! Honestly, remote employment is rare in the construction industry. However, it is still possible if you land in the right company. Good luck!
Hey trey, i hope you are doing well.. i have a question regarding the BIM manager courses. which BIM manager courses you consider ? abot good quality but not expensive, i live in germany, is it a big differentc between the europien and usa virsion? thank you, best , Nast
Hello Nast, I recommend global e training as they are pretty affordable and you can learn so much with them. However, I strongly suggest you start with free TH-cam Videos first. For advanced courses, you could try LinkedIn Learning or Global e training. There is not a big difference between European and USA. Hope that helps.
Sorry for the late reply. It's rare to find a BIM Engineer working from home because most construction companies want the BIM Engineer to be in person, or sometimes visiting the site to assist the field team with BIM visualizations and scheduling.
Hi Trey, I am a BIM engineer in Thailand. BIM is very new here in Thailand. I wonder that are there any BIM relevant professional license just like structural engineer's or architect's in your country ?
To be honest, i don't think BIM requires you to be "licensed". Architects and Engineers require that because it is a lot more technical. BIM is more about construction coordination rather than design.
Hey there, you have awesome videos. Thank you for the tips. Iam trying to become a BIM engineer myself. I just wanted to know where you learned how to use these programs. I keep looking for revit training courses, but there are not many out there. Do you know any good places to learn revit?
Yes I highly recommend linkedin training videos through Lynda.com or you can refer to TH-cam for a bunch of free revit videos to start off. Global E Training is also a great platform to hone your skills.
hi Try.. i hope you are doing well.. i have a question regarding the BIM manager courses.. as architect i work with revit and BIM, but to improve my level, do you think could i continue with free video on youtube or should be helpful also to have a BIM managment cours? for example the university, politecnc of milan offer theses courses for 1 year but they cost 3800€,, so i would like to know your point of view as profetional and take a right desicion. thank you so much. have a great hollidays-
Honestly, since you are already an architect you must be knowledgeable about this field of work. However, that is a great question. If I were you I would think about what type of skills you would like to acquire. For example, if you are trying to improve in terms of design, there are free videos online you could learn from. For using dynamo scripts or advanced rendering, I would check out Udemy to see if there are any courses you are interested in. It's also not that expensive - $15-20 USD per course. I also think it depends on your background. Some people I know did not have a college degree in construction, but they are working as BIM Engineers by starting out as BIM technicians and moving up the ladder. After saving up, they went on to pursue a Masters degree in Architecture. If you do not have a masters degree, pursuing it would definitely add credibility to your resume and professional career. Hope that helps! Happy holidays!
Hi, I am currently working in construction industry and would like to take courses on BIM. However, there are options which are BIM and Computational BIM. I don't get what are the difference... do you? Thanks in advance
BIM is mainly focused on QA/QC the model, prevent clashes, build revit families, and coordinate with subs. Computational BIM is using plugins like dynamo to create BIM automation to help BIM Engineers work more efficiently. I would say get started in BIM first. Computational comes after. Good luck Stephanie!
Hi James, a digital engineer is responsible for designing new digital hardware products and the circuitry to make them function. a BIM engineer is responsible for making sure that all models collected from subcontractors are in alignment and are not clashing with each other. BIM is very construction focused, whereas digital engineering can be very generic.
Hi Christal, short answer, no you don't need to be familiar with construction site works to do well at BIM. Because you will be more software driven than construction driven. However, it will definitely help to have some field experience so you would understand the sequence of events, what goes behind the wall, reasons behind why floor to ceiling heights are 14 foot instead of standard 9 foot, etc etc.
Hi Trey! I wanted to ask if I should go for these softwares separately or if i should directly go for BIM learning as here are a lot of institutes who teach about bim directly for about 6months???? Please reply
Personally I think going to an institute is better than learning each of these separately. You get to interact with other students as well as a structure to follow. All the best!
@@anjigundumogula9884 There's no problem with that, but people tend to see it as a transition over to construction management. Unless you get involved with BIM MEP, then it's totally understandable and something you could do if you want.
Hello Engenharia, we generally just use Revit and Advance Steel. However, we don't create the 3D models (the structural engineers would do it by referencing the AutoCAD drawings), we only manage and run clash detections to make sure there is no discrepancy. Hope that helps!
Hi Trey. I am a fresh graduate and am looking for job, of which I came across a BIM trainee apprenticeship program. I understand that the BIM program would deliver us to utilise BIM, but like you said, does this mean we have to know revit and autocad in very very very very detailed to start with? Or are basics just enough to start the BIM training program? If basic is enough, would you define the term basic? What would we have to know first hand? Please Trey 😣
Hey Bryan. Congrats on your recent graduation! To start off, it's best if you have basic knowledge of Revit and autoCAD - this equates to modeling your own house/building with basic features (doors, windows, floor, ceilings, furnitures, walls, etc). Once you can do that well and have understood the interface of the program, then i would say you are pretty much good to go. Of course, the training program is going to refine and improve your BIM skills. So I wouldn't be too worried about that. Good luck with your new career! Cheers =)
Hey trey, sorry to disturb you but i also have the same problem me also a new graduate and want to be hired in a bim company in japan i am a foreigner here in japan and want to work here in bim i am an architect student and what kind of company do i have to choose. Waiting for your reply sir.
@@aasishshrestha6694 Hi Aasish, at this point I can see that all you need right now is a job to gain entry in the industry. With an architecture background, I think your best bet is to become an associate designer (assist licensed Architects), or Revit drafters/technician. It's easier for you to become a designer but that will most likely lead to the path of becoming an Architect. Revit drafters on the other hand will become BIM engineers.
Sorry for the late reply. No you do not need to code to do BIM. However, advanced BIM techniques require python. Computional BIM is mainly for Automation and Dynamo. To do more with less, but you need code to do that.
This really depends on the school. I can't speak for everyone. For me, I went to Arizona State and they do have BIM courses. I know USC and Berkeley has it too.
I am having my expertise in Autocad and i also learned and used staad pro for various projects and now i've started learning Revit online from one of a youtube channel after that should i learn primevera?
Primavera is a scheduling tool for construction. It's good if you're going to use it in the field. If you're going to remain in BIM, then primavera won't be needed although it's a good skillset to have in the construction industry.
Yes, by pushing out tasks to a BIM modeling system, Facilities Management will be equipped with easy-to-access, intelligent facility designs and models to leverage long term for occupant comfort and maintenance purposes. FM can push updates back into the database with automated reports and create workflows that empower crews to make sure no task slips through the cracks. Hope that helps.
Great question. I would say eventually you would have to choose a specialization. For me, it was MEP because an opportunity presented at the time was to assist the MEP team with MEP families creation as well as placing the 3D models per the engineer's specification. But I do know other BIM Engineers who focus only on structural.

Hello Boris, yes Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD certificates would definitely help to get a foot in the door. The reason you got rejected could be due to a few reasons - your prior work experience, your resume not detailing your BIM courses, and the job scope you're applying for. Some companies want Associate level BIM engineers (who has 3-5 years work experience).
There are tons of research on BIM already available on the internet. You can look up research journals and get a feel for what it's like before writing one yourself.

Hi trey, do you have a blog about collaboration of revit and civil 3d for an infrastructure project, like railway or bridges
Sorry Francis, but I don't have a blog. However, that would be a really cool topic to talk about.
Good Work Brother. Kindly share some reference link for free full version REVIT MEP. Regards
You could try globaletraining and they are the cheapest I could find out there.
Hi Trey, Warm greetings from Ecuador.
Could you talk about virtual reality in construction?
What's the difference between BIM modellers and BIM Engineers can some explain me have recently graduated and I heading towards BIM field
Other questions please
1) Can you also use archicad as a BIM software rather then revit??
2) Can BIM also be used in the design of bridge??
3) What about us freshers that haven't yet use BIM360 desig collaboration b/c the are obligated paid software !!
Hope the is no problem asking a lot of questions
Thanks and have a nice day sir
Is there a Master's program about BIM that you recommend in the USA?
Hey Trey, could you recommend me which kind of laptop should I buy to start the training?
I would recommend a windows laptop with Intel CORE i5 chip and 8GB Ram. Storage space - try to get one with at least 500 GB or more.
I am diploma civil engineer and I have 1.5 yrs of site experience in L&T and I want to become BIM engineer
Hi Trey,
Thank you for this great video!
+1, you can try to use Robot Structural Analysis Professional
Depends on the country you're in, but i'll give you the most used softwares, you have Etabs, Robot Structural analysis, sap 2000 and STAAD Pro good luck
Thanks for your simple and objective explanation. In your opinion what is the best engineer to be a bim engineer Architect, structura or civil ....
Hey trey i like ur video but what i want ask is how do we define an object such us pumps, sensors in BIM environments.
Trey I want to be a BIM engineer. I'm looking at a new career moving forward in 2023.
All the best! You can learn from global e training.
thank you... do yuo think is it enought the yuube to learn about BIM and Revit?, i already since 1 year started.
yes, learning about BIM and Revit from TH-cam is a good way to start. Then you may want to add it to your resume and apply for an entry level BIM position. Good luck!
thank you so much trez, but what a bout the advanced BIM, do you have any advice, because all of courses are soooo expensive, is ot any other way or suggestion?,thank you again..
Bro really good video and informative
Thank you for the very beneficial video 🤝
and is it possible to make 3d model with tekla structures then continue to navisworks, or it's only work with revit?
Sorry just saw this, yes it's possible. However, it depends on the standard your company is using. In America, the industry standard mandates that we use Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp. Again, depending on your company and what available resource they would provide.
Can sketch up helps u ? While modeling and can sketch up will replace Revit upcoming years
Yes sketchup is useful as well but it's not as important as Revit and the other Autodesk softwares. No, Sketchup will not replace Revit.
@@TreyTan thank you .
Is it necessary to get some kind degree like Masters in Bim or by mastering all the softwares you mentioned in video is enough to be a Bim engineer?
Also there some universities in uk which offers 1/2
course of bim should I do these courses?
@@ruturajhegana1164 It is not necessary to get Masters. A bachelor's degree in Archi, Civil, or Construction could get you an entry-level position. However, if you're from a different background (graphic design, film), and you would like to get into BIM, then yes, take the master's degree or enroll in BIM courses.
Where did you learn BIM ? Which institute ?
I learned BIM thru my previous employer and on Lynda.com. There are many courses out there and you might even be able to learn BIM on TH-cam for free.
@@TreyTan thank you 😊
Can fresher apply for BIM ,how much is the possibility of getting job for freshers?
Excellent, thanks a lot Tan for the detailed reply on the subject and it did really help. Cheers!!
Video start at 1:34
Thank you
There's not just Revit, Archicad is a BIM based model essentially around before Revit. Just saying....
Good point! Archicad may have laid the groundwork, but Revit has took over and is now the most commonly used software for BIM. Or at least in my experience.
Thanks for the video, now i making BIM 3D for My Project as well, by using several Software like, Autocad, Civil 3D, Infraworks and Sketchup and coordination using BIM 360 docs
This is awesome. Good luck with your journey!
Is it available any online master course for bim from any reputed university. I am basically civil engineer and 8 yearse of experience in site now interested to do any master degree. Kindly advise
Yes I have heard of Masters in BIM based out in the UK but not so sure about America. For online Masters, Arizona State University offers a Construction Management Program online. However, it is not specifically focused on BIM.
@@TreyTan thanks for your information
@@TreyTan Thank you so much mate, I will indeed follow your advice!! Take care and stay safe!!
@@paulurbinati5073 Take care as well mate! Stay safe.
Hi Trey..!
Love from India ❤
Can u suggest a good platform to learn BIM..?
It depends if you are planning to do it online or in person. I recommend starting with free courses first where you can learn from global-e-training or linkedin or youtube. Hope that helps.
well explain, thank you
Could u please suggest me any idea about BIM in construction project management for my post graduation project ? I have learnt Revit software and I don’t know any other software which u have named in the video. So how can I proceed with BIM
That's great! Yeah, what we did in school was to build a 3D house using Revit and showcase that to the class. Honestly, if you want to proceed with BIM, Revit is the main software to use, followed by Navisworks and AutoCAD.
Trey Tan thank u
Great job dude
thank you buddy
I just got certified in Autocad and Revit. Any ideas on where to look for an entry level remote employment.
Does remote jobs in bim like work from home?????
Sorry for the late reply. It's rare to find a BIM Engineer working from home because most construction companies want the BIM Engineer to be in person, or sometimes visiting the site to assist the field team with BIM visualizations and scheduling.
Hi Trey, can you recommended the laptop suitable for this few software u said can going smoothly ?
64 GB RAM, at least an intel i7 chip. If using a MAC, go for the M1 chip.
@@TreyTan Thank you for your reply, wish you success
Hi Trey, I am a BIM engineer in Thailand. BIM is very new here in Thailand. I wonder that are there any BIM relevant professional license just like structural engineer's or architect's in your country ?
To be honest, i don't think BIM requires you to be "licensed". Architects and Engineers require that because it is a lot more technical. BIM is more about construction coordination rather than design.
@@TreyTan thanks for your reply.
Hey Trey, what is the difference between a digital engineer and a bim engineer in your perspective ?
Hi James, a digital engineer is responsible for designing new digital hardware products and the circuitry to make them function. a BIM engineer is responsible for making sure that all models collected from subcontractors are in alignment and are not clashing with each other. BIM is very construction focused, whereas digital engineering can be very generic.
hi! thanks for the informative video. does a BIM coordinator needs to be familiar with the construction site works?
Hi Christal, short answer, no you don't need to be familiar with construction site works to do well at BIM. Because you will be more software driven than construction driven. However, it will definitely help to have some field experience so you would understand the sequence of events, what goes behind the wall, reasons behind why floor to ceiling heights are 14 foot instead of standard 9 foot, etc etc.
Nice video
Is there any chance to learn from free online how to use these softwares :-)... i am still a eng undergraduate
Yes, LinkedIn Learning is one good resource but I believe it's only good for 30 days free.
@@TreyTan Hi! I’m from Philippines, do you know any institutions who teach BIM that I can reach out?
what was your major in college? architecture or civil engineer? i just wanna know thankyouu
My major was Construction management! But I know that people who studied Archi or Civil Engineering can also do BIM. Hope that helps =)
@@TreyTan is it mechanical engineer can he learn the BIM and get the job. Is it any problem ?
@@anjigundumogula9884 There's no problem with that, but people tend to see it as a transition over to construction management. Unless you get involved with BIM MEP, then it's totally understandable and something you could do if you want.
Hi Trey,
What should I study to become an BIM engineer
Construction related degrees + Architecture.
Hi... Thanks.... what do you use for reinforced concrete and the others structural projects?
Hello Engenharia, we generally just use Revit and Advance Steel. However, we don't create the 3D models (the structural engineers would do it by referencing the AutoCAD drawings), we only manage and run clash detections to make sure there is no discrepancy. Hope that helps!
Hi trey... Iam from india, completed BE civil engineering... Where will study in BIM course...
global e training is a good one. Lynda.com or browse free videos on youtube!
Revit drafters on the other hand will become BIM engineers.
do you need any programming skills like Python? and did you learn all the skills for these softwares in school or at your workplace?
Sorry for the late reply. No you do not need to code to do BIM. However, advanced BIM techniques require python. Computional BIM is mainly for Automation and Dynamo. To do more with less, but you need code to do that.
Iam planning to go for master's
So could u please suggest course which has bim as major module
This really depends on the school. I can't speak for everyone. For me, I went to Arizona State and they do have BIM courses. I know USC and Berkeley has it too.
Is necessary to get site experience to Become BIM engineer?
Site experience would definitely help because the reason for BIM is to assist people in the construction site. But is it mandatory? No it is not.
Hi, how can facility managers benefit from BIM? Is there any need for Facility Managers to learn BIM?
Yes, by pushing out tasks to a BIM modeling system, Facilities Management will be equipped with easy-to-access, intelligent facility designs and models to leverage long term for occupant comfort and maintenance purposes. FM can push updates back into the database with automated reports and create workflows that empower crews to make sure no task slips through the cracks. Hope that helps.
I would like to take to you further on some things, but in depth and outside of here, are you on LinkedIn?
Great Vid Thx, Should Bim Eng know about revit Str ,arch and Mep ?
Great question. I would say eventually you would have to choose a specialization. For me, it was MEP because an opportunity presented at the time was to assist the MEP team with MEP families creation as well as placing the 3D models per the engineer's specification. But I do know other BIM Engineers who focus only on structural.

1) Do Revit certificate facilitate to be a BIM engineer when applying for jobs??
2)I have expertise in autocad, revit arc, struct and Navis but when i put these software in my resume for a company in france another companies to be a BIM engineer it was rejected!!...Is it b/c i just have a bachelor??
3)With the softwares in 2 can i be a BIM manager
Hello Boris, yes Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD certificates would definitely help to get a foot in the door. The reason you got rejected could be due to a few reasons - your prior work experience, your resume not detailing your BIM courses, and the job scope you're applying for. Some companies want Associate level BIM engineers (who has 3-5 years work experience).
How can is do a research project on BIM? What are the some of field i have to know about BIM, I mean the structural components ?
There are tons of research on BIM already available on the internet. You can look up research journals and get a feel for what it's like before writing one yourself.
I have mastered SketchUp having almost 10 years of experience in it now, so is there any way I can make my SketchUp model turn into a BIM model!?
Yes you could import it into Revit. However it will not be a Revit model. But a sketchup model within a Revit model if that makes sense.
I want to become a designer
With hard work anything is possible.
I have no experience in Bim engineer but a company wants to interview me. I have aerospace engineering background only. Should i go for it?
Yeah you could try. I know a few people with aerospace engineering background in careers that are far from what they studied in school. It's definitely worth a shot! Good luck!
Is Tekla a BIM software? Or do most places only allow revit?
Yes Tekla is a BIM Software but they focus more on structural BIM. Revit is a common tool to use for most BIM Engineers. hope that helps.
