That was really sweet of you to reach out to the writer for permission and understanding of the situation with articles.
So listening to this, I'm now processing. If the Evanuris were in the Black City, that means it wasn't the Maker punishing the Tevinter mages. It was the Evanuris purposefully spreading the Blight. It also means the Maker isn't in the Black City. That raises the question entirely of who Andraste was, and if the Maker was even real to begin with or just something people invented to explain what they saw of the Evanuris (or the remnants of them).
Do we know that for sure? If the Evanuris themselves was blighted, doesn't that mean they were also victims of the blight?
@@darylmcmexican539 We originally thought they were only blighted when the Darkspawn corrupt them, but here it's implied the uncorrupted versions can still spread the blight, implying it was always them spreading the Blight and being temporarily stopped.
My crazy tinfoil is Solas is the Maker. Andraste was probably Mythal. Considering the ashes ordeal involving her and Mythal was murdered. The story was altered before being written in script among the people. But that's my tinfoil and I'm sticking to it until corrected lol.
@@VexieVexI agree with this theory. Mythal/Flemeth being andraste also ties into her liberation of the elves. Flemeth herself says "men have killed for me" which is also similar to Andraste's story.

So a random thought but as we have 7 companions and there are 7 eleven gods, maybe our companions have to step in being the statues or represent something for the final ritual? Maybe that's why we have 7 companions and not 9 for the story sense, again just a random thought

He wasn't anywhere near him though, unless he teleports, Solas is too far for that.

When Varric says "Rook, take care of the team for me." I knew my favorite dwarf was a goner. Solas destroying Bianca further confirmed for me this inevitability. I'm assuming the unleashed Evanuris will do him in. Best case scenario he's just petrified for most of the game.
I always had this theory of the evanuris being the old gods. Been stonewalled about it in comment threads in the past. Vindication! Really excited to see!
Also i love this idea of Solas being in our mind like Johnny Silverhand for our Rook lol.
David Gaiter himself hinted many years ago that the Old Gods could be based on either the Evanuris or the Forgotten Ones, with the Forgotten Ones having more reasons.
It makes sense for the Old Gods and therefore the Archdemons to be corrupted Forgotten Ones.
@@AzureRoxe I believe a codex in DAO mentioned that the Forgotten Ones spoke (or whispered) to the people, which reminds me of how Old Gods would speak to ancient Tevinters. I lean to the Old Gods being the Forgotten Ones, and archdemons are blighted Evanuris (or part of their spirits). Also it would be ironic if the magisters had gone through all that just to find the throne in the Fade empty, then got blighted and lost faith in their Gods but didn't realize their Gods were prisoned deep down the whole time and the blight was their counterstrike to their enemies...
Just finished my latest playthrough of Inquisition. Where I sunk 130 hours doing everything I possibly could do with my Qunari Inquisitor. I had a blast, cant wait to do the same with this game.
Wondering where and when Morrigan will fit in if she drinks from the well(like I had her do besides romancing the HOF) . Really curious since she's connected to Flemeth-Mythal.
Well, the actress that voices morrigan has said in a tweet she hasn't been asked to come back for the role, so it doesn't sound like morrigan will be making an appearance.

How all the blights were stopped was that the soul of the arch demon fled to the nearest tainted creature. Wardens. Who were unwilling to host the soul! So they both went kaboom!

I wonder if Morrigan will make an appearance if you chose to make Kieran in some fashion. If Morrigan drank from The Well of Sorrows, old-god Kieran might have some extra insight as to why she should be the next to embody Mythal.
Rook having a relationship with Solas (platonic or otherwise) is something I absolutely didn’t expect. I love how they all but confirmed Solas and Inquisitor will have some sort of moment.

Okay, okay but it feels like this article soft confirmed that The Old Gods and The Evanuris are one in the same...they could still be separate but there are a lot of lore implications. Also Flemeth/Mythal more a less indirectly confirmed in DA2 that she is dragon.
The premise of Veilguards story sounds like its really bringing all 3 previous games' stories full circle. Im so excited to see where they go with the plot. A relationship between rook and solas is beautiful storytelling. It gives us a new perspective on Solas from the POV of a new character and not our inquisitor. It also gives new players a unique opportunity and perspective on the egg head. If Solas ends up being the big bad in the end, it will likely be up to us.
Can't wait to find out why our Rook passes out "moments later," given that we looked fine when the gameplay video cut!

@@HalonOfficial In Dragon Age Absolution, it's revealed she's still alive somehow and is 100% dedicated on leading the Red Templars into a war with Tevinter, so there's a huge chance she'll at least appear in Veilguard.
She's not really alive though. She's a talking piece of lyrium.

I was a Lavellan in Inquisition, but I paired her with Cullen, not Solas. Lavellan and Solas even had a strained relationship.

It's a bit odd that apparently Solas made specific prisons for the Evanuris when at no point did he imply that in Inquisition, he implied they were simply trapped behind the Veil he created.
It was likely a plot point that bioware came up with after trespasser was released and they were neck deep in VG's development.

I kinda doubt it at this point simply because it's too obvious. Like, everyone who follows DAV news would at this point know that Varric might die, squandering most emotional impact his death would have had. And new players, who don't follow the news, don't care about Varric. I feel it would be a poor choice and gain them nothing to reveal Varrics death months before release. It might really just be a feint.

Like The Sims 3 where we had 3 female voices and 3 male voices with a pitch shifter. The fact the game director worked at The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 is really telling of the character customization
My theory about Rook getting hurt even though we didn't see anything in the gameplay trailer is probably just Bioware hiding it with some editing? It might be because it was just something they wanted to hide so the story isn't spoiled but that's just my lil theory!

They already confirmed that they get hurt and their blood got mixed up in ritual and trapped Solas in the fade and why we can't do blood magic
So I just had a wild thought since I'm replaying Origins right now.
After the Battle of Ostagar when you're speaking with Flemeth after waking up, you can ask her what an archdemon is. Flemeth responds that "The Chantry states that the Maker cast down the Old Gods of the Tevinter Imperium into prisons beneath the surface."
We know that the Elven Gods and the Tevinter Old Gods are one and the same, thanks to Solas' reactions to the Grey Wardens attempting to breach the final prisons, as well as finding out he's attempting to move their prisons in the DAV gameplay reveal.
So does that mean that on top of being The Dread Wolf, Solas is also The Maker?
The moment I saw the game play release, I've had a bad feeling for Varric's future 😮 he is and has been my fav bestie since da2. I took him everywhere with me in DA2 and DAI 😢

@@the_maddcowalso explains unfortunately why they felt OK laying off Mary Kirby if her most iconic character isn’t in the narrative anymore. (NOT saying laying her off was okay-I have been laid off and it sucks. Just feel like it’s more proof Varric is possibly dead.) I would rather his character be retired than have someone not-Mary write him.
I admit i quite liked the mystery in dragon age lore regarding The Maker, gods, the gold city etc... I hope they wont reveal *everything* and keep some stuff in the dark, or open to interpretation
I think there’s enough info out now to start putting pieces together. Remember how each age in Thedas is given a name that will somehow come to represent something significant that will happen in it? Well, this is the Dragon Age (yep, I said the thing).
Flemeth/Mythal is a dragon… or at least can become one. Her hand has been nudging all of the events we’ve been experiencing through the series so far. We also know she can uh… create a horcrux lol. I believe she saved a piece of herself and sent it…. Somewhere through the eluvian.
Tinfoil hat time: Solas “killed” Mythal and took her power. Solas is now able to become a dragon himself. Solas is what the entire age was named for. I don’t think it’s directly referring to the old gods or Evanuris, blights have happened all throughout history, not just in the Dragon Age.
We know from Corypheus that if the golden city really was the seat of the maker, it had fallen to corruption before he got there. You COULD say he’s lying, but apart from withholding some important information from Calpernia about her fate as the vessel I can’t remember a single time he was dishonest. He could be mistaken of course, but I doubt it.
The Black City IS the prison, and when the magisters entered they were cursed with the blight and sent back to wreak chaos. We already know that any place where a large amount of death occurred eventually thins the veil and allows spirits enter the “real” world. Maybe if the blight overran the world and killed a ton of people it could possibly destroy the veil, or at the very least weaken it to the point it could be punched through without much effort. The blight is an attempt to break out of jail.
But it backfired.
It certainly DID kill a ton of people, it wrought chaos, aaaaaand…. Like the black city itself, everything it touched was corrupted. The earth, the air, animals, plants, people… and even “gods.” To add insult to injury, one by one the blighted pantheon awoke, gathered an army, attacked Thedas, and then perma-died at the hand of a grey warden. Perhaps Solas REALLY dislikes the grey wardens because he knows that they can do the one thing he couldn’t.
I don’t know if it was a thread that was dropped over the course of development or if we just haven’t heard anything about it yet but DOES have red lyrium. I think he wanted to put the remaining Evanuris in a new cage until the work of tearing down the veil was complete. Then, he would consume a TON of red lyrium to become blighted himself and end the last of the Evanuris himself. They die, he dies, no more “gods” to enslave the people, happy ending for everyone… except for everyone that dies when the veil is destroyed.
Alternately, everything I wrote above stays the same, except for the part about Solas being able to become a dragon now. The spirit of Mythal makes its way to Morrigan (who can ALSO become a dragon), no less). Morrigan becomes the new host for Mythal.
Some point during the last battle, it seems like we are on the brink of defeat. Down swoops Morrithal to FINALLY claim her vengeance and she kills them both, destroying the last remnant of her own soul in the process. Morrigan is left unharmed, Mythal is at true rest, the blights are gone, everyone lives happily ever after, except for everyone who died.
I wonder if each Elven God that broke free from the Veil ends up becoming a boss for each chapter or act, sort of like a boss gauntlet
1. Ghilan’nain, the Mother of Halla. She could be just an Elven Mage or Ranger riding in a demonic Halla. Or she could be a Halla like Centaur carrying a Shepards cane.
2. June, the God of the Craft. He could just be an Elven Black Smith with a magical hammer. Or he could just have a similar armitager ability that Noctis has in Final Fantasy 15.
3. Sylaise, the Hearthkeeper. She could be some Elven Mage that has the most powerful nature magic. Or just a giant talking tree.
4. Andruil, the Goddess of the Hunt. She could be an Elven Ranger with some animal like features.
5. Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets. He could be shadowy like robed figure with shadow magic. Or just a demonic giant raven. Or an elf like angel with raven wings and legs
6. Falon’din, Friend of the Dead. He could just be the grim reaper.
7. Elgar’nan, The All Father. He could be an Elven Knight with a sword and shield. Or he could turn into a dragon like Mythal did.
8. Possibly the final boss, Solas, the Dread Wolf. He could either be using his rift mage skills, or turn into a giant wolf that’s similar to the ones the tapestry depicted Fen’Harel is.
As for the Fade Hub, I can't wait to goof around the place and talk to the companions in order to get to know them better.
That would be awesome. To fight all the elven gods that we've learned about throughout DA games that would be a plus🤩
The only gods that broke free were Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain.
I really hope there is a mural of Lavellan in the lighthouse (if we romanced Solas), maybe from the dance or the removal of her valasllin - and if you have low approval I would still like to see a mural of how Solas see the inquisitor. And if there are murals of any other companions or the inquisition in general.
This would be so beautiful to see (the romance part you mention specifically but all is beautiful in its own way).

Imagine if you ended up in a 3-way. There is a scene from sliders that I really want to link, but I can't find it.. Basically he travels to other dimensions, meets a female version of himself in one, then later on a springfield style show they ask him if he slept with his duplicate.
I just want to reunite Solas with my Inquisitor at the end of the game!

I dont think a Love Interest Inquisitor will have much additional history with Solas, because in the end of the Tresspassers DLC, Solas leaves the Inquisitor to pursue his ambitions...but I guess it's s possible The Inquisitor may have suceeded in tracking Solas down a time or two, and maybe even spent some nights together, but i would assume that Solas ultimately always abandons her again, to continue his mission.
Honestly I was hoping (and still am really) that we’ll learn more about what happened that lead to the Evenuris forcing Mythal to give up her breathing privlages, after all Solas can’t actually know the whole story, there’s at least 8 other sides to consider here, including the two power hungry maniacs running around, who were they? What lead to this? I sincerely hope Veilguard answers these questions, and what about the others? If Elger’nan and Ghili’nan are Lusacan and Razikale (somehow??) then who was Urthemiel??? Was that Sylaise? Andruil? Falon’din? (Since he was allegedly extremely vain according to Solas it would make sense as Urthemiel was “the dragon of beauty”) and if so then what happened to the soul fragment? We saw Flemeth take it so is Mythal just eating her former friends? UGH!!! BioWare we need answers!!!!

I’m torn because on one hand I’m glad they’re setting expectations and confirming Solas isn’t the main villain so people can adjust expectations but I also feel like… stop spoiling stuff, BioWare! Did not need to know we have a Fade Hub. (I was on your live Jack and didn’t realize the article would be so spoilery or I’d have avoided it)
I think Solas is pretty much who people are referring to as the maker. In inquisition when solas is with you he hates all the pious options that you make, and is always offened when the maker is brought up as if hes upset about his story being co-opted and corrupted.
I remember in Dragon Age Origins companions, I believe Shale and Sten would try to stab me if I attempted to romance them.

Looking at one of the cover type artworks Varric is within the group which suggests he plays a role even if not as a companion. So I doubt they'd kill him off, at least not in the early parts of the game

I am very excited for the plot and meeting the companions and learning more about the Evanuris. If I am being honest though the only companion I don't like is Bellara (which may change), she just comes across as someone who will be very annoying and her aesthetic kinda seems a bit too modern-looking for a medieval fantasy but other than that I am hyped to meet everyone else and playing this game. I can't wait.
EA needs to either better refine and improve Frostbite or just let their studios use other engines if Frostbite is limiting them... But it's EA so I doubt that'll ever happen

ngl, kinda excited about the lore of this game... i'm still really sore about the direction of the gameplay bioware chose though, i'm a big fan of CRPGs and origins was my entry game to the genre and i was really hoping they'd look back on the series roots especially after BG3's wild success, i'd probably only buy if it's a hit, otherwise i'm waiting for a major discount, to hell with this new bioware, we don't need them anymore
That you hoped for another Origins after BG3 is on you tho. Veilguard was in Development even before BG3, even if they had wanted to change their whole battle system, that would not have been possible in just half a year, without pushing the release date back yet again.
@@SisterTheohild BG3 has been in early access for like 3 years prior, so people already know what it was like since 2020 and we have been getting CRPG successes like pillars of eternity, divinity original sin and the pathfinder games... and they've restarted the project how many times? like 3 or 4 since it was announced? is it really too much to expect from the original creators of baldur's gate to expect a baldur's gate style game?
but then again, this isn't anymore the people that made baldur's gate isn't it? this is the people that made anthem and we really do not need the people that made anthem do we? so if the game succeed, good for them, but if it fails, then good riddance!
Everything I could say about the series gameplay direction was already conveyed a decade ago with Inquisition, could get fun but still sad to see the tactical phase out. A decade of CRPG alternatives later helps it go down easier this time around. Still an RPG (and EA Bioware at that), so either skipping or waiting out a complete edition depending on how it goes.
It sounds like the relationship between rook and Solas is going to be either a parent/child or mentor/ apprenticed aka Darth Sloas the wise
I'm not the biggest Solas fan tbh, like as a character. I'm indifferent on him. He's an Elf supremacist :/ Not a fan of him being an advisor type of character. I'm also surprised they seem to be focusing so heavily on Elves again. Dwarves deserve better.
The dwarves were awesome in one and then they swept them under a rug because Elves are cool and have the only important lore, apparently 😮💨
I hope we get more cool lore and stuff from the other races as well and not only elves 😢
There’s a huge plot they haven’t fully developed as far as Titans go, so Dwarves will likely have their time. If not now, certainly the next game if there is one. This game was in the making since Origins.
@@azurastar3223I usually play as elves and humans and don't really play as dwarves a lot tbh but yes they got the short end of the stick in Inquisition lore wise. DA2 was lacking dwarf lore too. I totally agree they were awesome in Origins, a dwarf Warden makes so much sense.
If there's gonna be a new Blight, wouldn't my warden find out about it from origins and come running? I really don't know what she's been doing 😅
Since Rook is responsible for all the chaos this game, and in keeping with Dragon Age themes, I guess I should be a mage. Mages like to break things in Dragon Age games (Looking at you Anders and Merrill!)

Damn jack….i feel for you during this time as a Dragon Age Fan. The community is so divided on this game coming out after the gameplay reveal.
I think the biggest indicator that they did kill off Varric is that Bioware fired Mary Kirby. I don't think the writer of the character that is basically the face of the series at this point would have been picked among the redundancies if he was still around to provide more content.
Oh I would love to get more about that Old gods Elven gods connection. I hope it is actually how it is. and that we have two remaining Elven gods it means double blight or something like that. And that the previous blights were actually Losd god + Elven god things. This is one of my favourite theories.
I'm not encouraged by the article's revelations. It seems like BioWare is taking the major plot theads that have been developed up to this point (none of which were intended to be connected before this) and then just mushing them all together in an attempt to present a storyline that is deep while also reducing the number of topics they have to cover. Unfortunately this also reduces the significance of each plot. For example, before this we were expecting 7 evanuris antagonists, 2 old god antagonists, and the threat of the taint. Now these have been combined, and we may only end up with 2 tainted evanuris old gods. Meanwhile, what happens to all the other plots like the Hero and the cure for the taint, or Hawke at Weisshaupt, or the Warden left behind in the Fade with the Nightmare, or the impact of the Dark Ritual, or the history of humans in relation to the history of the veil, or the true origin of the Golden/Black City? I get the bad feeling that all these will be dropped by the wayside. This isn't so much BioWare harvesting what was grown over 15 years, so much as BioWare ripping the crops out by the root, throwing them in a boiling pot, and then dumping it all out on the table and telling us to feast.

So now we can "jump" into the fade with all our companions and physically walk around without any elven anchors? Because "somehow" Rook's blood was touched by a ritual to strengthen the prisons of the elven gods?
This is a red flag for writing quality in my eyes.

I hope having Solas in your head has its funny moments, i want to play the least elfiest elf unlike my Solavellan character
Hello Jackdaw would you know or have you got any hints... I was wondering if anyone thought to ask the Devs the following... Will there be a Pre-Order Option for purchasing Veilguard and as a perk or incentive, it will allow you to complete your Character Creation including the Inquisitor, with the Character Creator in advance, so that it is ready to go on Game Launch Date. So not a head start or early access per say, just allow you to create the character and save it so that you can jump right into the experience on day one. I am hoping that this is a possibility since if the Character Creator is as extensive and wonderful as they are hinting, that could us save so much time. It would give so much Hype to the game and it would be nice great salute and gesture to all of us Diehards that have been so patiently awaiting for this installment.
The animation looks good, some lore stuff is kind of.. muddied..
BUT. We gonna have to tone down the contrast a bunch. The game looks really bright and colorful. Needs some darkness and dinge.

Some of this stuff are already diving into spoiler ish territory, I want to know but I also want to go in as blind as possible ever since the gameplay trailer, maybe I¿ll just watch the eventual reveal of mage combat and stop from there.
At this point I want them to stop talking about story spoilers before release. Just give us character creator stuff, and an actual release date!

See this vid has me more hyped for the next game than the trailer did.
Seems too good to be true that that 8 mere mortals will be able to take on 2 gods, you'd think you'd be wripped to pieces after laying eyes on them 😅
They aren't fighting them, themselves. The point of the veil guard is gather those factions forces in a you scratch my back I will scratch yours type of scenario and have the combined forces of the armies go against them
@Silenthitman44 just comes across like it's you and 6 others against the elven gods but would make more sense if you build an army or something similar to dragon age origins. Had to gather your allies build an army. I guess we'll see when the game arrives either way I'm looking forward to it and as a fan of the past 3 games and mass effect series I highly doubt I'll be disappointed.

It's only been one video and one trailer the deep dives explain it more, that's why we have a companion from each faction and why the inquistor is going to be in the game to
@Jackdaw how do you honestly feel about the reveal trailer?? Id like to see a video featuring just your opinion and some comparison to Origins and what we wanted vs what has been released.
Still disappointed that it appears no one else in the world is helping Varic and Harding save the world from being destroyed. Neve is a cool character that makes sense. Rook seems like some random drunk in a bar that was good in a bar fight and apparently everyone else has abandoned Varic and Harding. Definitely not preordering this game. I'll watch someone on youtube play the beginning to see if it actually makes any sense.

I’m torn between creating a Lavellan with a Solas romance or just going with Cullen as usual.
I am very excited for the game but at the same time slightly disappointed that Solas gets trapped in the fade within the first hour of "Veilguard"... I was looking forward to seeing him as a villain who is always one step ahead of us, justifies all his actions by "the greater good" etc. But then, we can still see some of that if Solas is left for the final act of the game. Maybe he will find a way to get out of his prison or even manipulate Rook into helping him do it. And one more question that comes to mind, given that we will have to defeat Ghilan'nain and Elgar'nan is WHEN WILL MYTHAL STEP IN!? 😳

Thanks for the video Jackdaw! Game Informer gave us some good info and I really think Bellara sounds fantastic. I've seen some people just call her Merrill 2.0 but I think that's probably doing both of them a disservice. I hope we get more information soon, including about the editions and maybe, just maybe, a release date, urgh, I can't wait.

As someone who wasn't exactly young in 2009 when DAO came out, I have a feeling that the shift in combat is going to suck big time for me. I don't have fast reflexes and such, it's one reason I play Dragon Age and not, for example, Street Fighter, which is what this looks like. I hope I'm wrong, because I don't want to have throw it in the trash can because I can't even survive the prologue.
They took inspiration from God of War 2018 and Ragnarok. That wasn't too bad, and that game had different variations of difficulty. I'm awful at Mortal Kombat. From what I saw in the gameplay, there might be accessibility options. I'd suggest waiting to find out more information, and pick the difficulty that'll be best for you.
Don't have to worry about difficulty in a BW game lad😅

I've also just realsied something, we are apparently going to be in the fade right? And someone is going to teach u how to craft things. What I'm trying to say is if we in the fade... will cole teach us how to manipulate the fade for crafting purposes???

Didn't mind that they spoiled the first part of the game, hyped me quite a bit as it sounds and looks amazing.
I'm hoping they only show a bit more mid game gameplay and then character creator and then the game will be out as I don't want anymore spoilers really just want to play it! 😅
