I agree with you guys 100%. The show was great. Folks were taking the show way too seriously. No one is perfect. A lot of viewers seem to sit on a moral high ground. But what I saw was relatable authenticity and people in the middle of their growth journey. Even Alan mellowed out by the end.
Yeah people were taking it way too seriously BUT to be fair... Shun actually WAS insufferable most of the time. And that's one of the main things I saw people complain about
@Americarnaud Fair. He did frustrate me as well, but unlike us (viewers), he is not seeing what we are seeing. But then to then go and attack the guy on his socials? To continue to do so, even now? Too much. I saw someone wanting to open their heart but also very scared to do so and being transparent about it in a way we have not seen before. Most people are very aware that they are on "TV" and will act a certain way as a result, but Shun didn't seem to do that.
im so happy that youre watching it. there is geniusly not a bad evil person on the show. daishun get a lot of love, but also hate, cause shun was a little bit (not toxic, but complicated) on the show. many people saw that as toxic, and think daishun are a little toxic. but you will understand when you watch the show. like you know they are still together and really popular and happy from what we see. but still there wasnt a evil person on the show, they are all sweet. i dont think anyone or daishun are a red flag, its more complicated then that
yeah. i hated seeing online discussion about this show because of how comfortable people were labelling shun with all sorts of negative tags based on heavily edited footage with the whole purpose of creating a narrative about the members lol. daishun's irl relationship appears to being going well and it's obvious that there's so much more to shun than meets the eye and i just wish people had given him more grace and thoughfulness in their discourse while the show was still airing.
@@givemecaffeine2342 yeah, tbh i was also a little frustrated with shun while watching the show, i dont think i could have been as patient and understanding as dai was. but shun has a sad complicated past. he is just has some drama, and dai is obviously someone who understands him. i dont think its right to judge him or call him names. hopefully they are happy now, and its heathly.
As a queer neurodivergent person parenting queer neurodivergent kids I think I had a better understanding and forgiveness of Shuns behavior than those who labelled him toxic. Not diagnosing him- I just know that brains and emotions and reactions to our lived experiences are complex. Part of the human experience is constantly figuring out ourselves and how to be in relationships with other complex beings. From this show and their vlogs, Dai and Shun seem suited for each other because they support each other, are patiently learning to communicate, tease and laugh together, and respect each other's triggers, limits, and boundaries.
Every single thing we learn about Shun during the course of this show makes everything we see of him and the hair-pulling decisions he makes, make SO much sense. Like its the most fascinating thing I've seen of any dating reality show person ever honestly😅
You will get to know Shun better in the next episodes and everything will make so much sense... The hate he got was so unfair. Anyway, I'm excited for you guys to get to know our brazilian queen, and boy, he really represented our country 😅
As someone who has watched a lot of dating shows like HisMan and Single's Inferno, I think the reason why I appreciate TheBoyfriend more is that it is a Japanese production. No whitewashing, no overthetop styling. The Japanese culture of respect, honesty and teamwork were highlighted. I also love that many of the production staff are members of LGBTQ and the cast themselves represented the community well. AND, the show was not just created for female viewers, but for everyone, and most importantly, "for the gays" 😊
In relation to the bisexuality discussion, I do think there's something to be said about the societal context. In a country that's very conservative and where lgbtq+ rights are extremely limited, I could understand why someone might feel more insecure about being in a queer relationship with someone who has the capacity to be in a fulfilling straight relationship than with someone who can't. Obviously that doesn't excuse any of the casual biphobia that often comes with the discussion though...
Exactly.. I'm sorry but gay people who live in relatively progressive countries with marriage and adoption equality and have primarily dated other gay people can't really relate to that struggle. First of all there are many gay men in comparison to lesbians. And to even find bi women who genuinely prefer women and won't ultimately leave for a man is like a needle in a haystack chance as soo many lesbians have been saying but it gets misconstrued as 'biphobia'. I had no preconceived notions about dating bi women before even the ones who told me I was their ideal woman, that I made them realize they could never date a man again, that they hate men etc randomly ghosted me only to show up with a husband like a year later lol. Not going to apologize for not wanting to get re-traumatized again and again and would rather date a lesbian who I know won't want to have three kids in a het marriage once she reaches her 30s. My bi exes have genuinely left me feeling like there are no women out there who actually romantically and s3xually want to be with a woman, which is insanely and ridiculously heart-breaking but them leading me on is not my fault nor something I could have predicted without being prejudiced. I'm sorry but I don't want to hear anyone try to negate these experiences unless they're also a gay person in their late 20s/ early 30s who's Never experienced mutual love and desire despite having dated several bi people. I also can't be sure that I'm able to not project these understandable insecurities onto a future bi girlfriend so I'd rather look for another lesbian. Very easy to misunderstand this plight as a gay person happily married to a fellow gay person, some of us aren't as lucky to find that or be legally able to do that. I'm not biphobic for acknowledging the reality that most bi people particularly in conservative homophobic societies won't settle down in a gay relationship with the intention of staying together forever. There are so many stories of one half of a gay couple announcing they're getting married to someone of the opposite sex out of familial pressure one day and leaving their lover traumatized forever after betraying a perfect relationship. Many such cases have been depicted particularly in Asian gay cinema. The statistics show that around 84% of bisexuals are in hetero relationships and I bet it's even more in homophobic countries like mine. So logically I'd have to date around 10 bi women in the hopes that 1 will stick, that's just not great odds, is it.. Sure, the prejudice that bisexuals are horny for everyone does exist but it's mostly untrue and rarely the reason why us gays are hesitant to date them.
I’m still traumatised by that chicken shake. I legit had a nightmare where I was going to die if I didn’t drink it. But I love y’all enough to risk the re-traumatisation
It’s wild to me they were in this show for 30 days and they released less episodes than His Man, which had 7 days. I think that contributed to chaos online as people only saw the emotional highs and lows without ever getting to really view people in a more holistic light.
Exactly! I don't think they even released half the amount of footage they got during that whole month of filming. What was shown to the viewers were just narratives that the director wanted to focus on, yet people online are out there arguing and criticizing some cast members as if they know the whole context just from watching these edited scenes.
They are wondering what will happen in the next episodes if DaiShun are already kind of “together”, stay calm you are about to witness THE DAISHUN SAGA, grab your popcorn and get ready, we still have a long way to go lol 😂😂😂
The Shun hate is abolutely insane. This boy is gay orphan in his early 20s who’s never felt familial love living in a homophobic country and has had boyfriends who’ve just played with his feelings. It would be surprising if he Didn’t have any hang-ups/ trauma from that. He never treated Dai maliciously and learned to take accountability for his capriciousness which hurt Dai. I completely relate to him as well as a lesbian looking for love in a very traditional sense. He’s so young but already tired of wasting his time with fboys and wanted to find his future husband he could raise a family with - something he has always lacked. It’s incredibly rare for a gay man to yearn for that in such a conservative society and at such a young age but completely understandable considering what he’s been through. Anyone who doesn’t have sympathy for him is just heartless. I also have a difficult family history and have been led on by many bi women who only see dating women as a temporary pastime and have eventually all settled for a man so I entirely understand his apprehension to date Dai. Of course I don’t generalize all bi people but most of them do end up in hetero relations particularly in such conservative societies most have the end goal of forming a tradhet family like everyone expects of them so what’s the point to waste your time. You might think, maybe this one is different a few times but once it becomes a pattern it’s only human nature to avoid patterns that hurt us as a survival instinct, especially if you’ve been stung several times before. It’s different with Dai though, because it’s clear he heavily prefers men and from his description of his only straight relationship in a post-show interview it sounds as if he was peer pressured to date the woman because they had a strong emotional bond rather than him being particularly attracted to her in other senses. However Dai does have the vibe of a fboy at first, with him openly flirty with/ horny for all the guys, and for someone as traditional as Shun I can understand how this, the naked photos and very probably using hook-up apps is off-putting. Some immediately jump to thinking it’s judgement of Dai, no, it’s just him being scared that despite their mutual attraction they might be incompatible in their dating style, the fear that Dai isn’t looking for something long-term and will leave him like everyone else. Someone who’s only ever been in a couple of long-term relationships their entire life not wanting to date sb who might hook up with sb new every once in a while isn’t ’sl*t-shaming’ or whatever some people make it out to be, it’s just a basic realization of incompatibility. People are allowed to be different and have boundaries in terms of who they’re looking for. And tigers rarely change their stripes. I’m glad that Dai doesn’t seem to be the fboy Shun feared he might, and is still head over heels in love with Shun and commited to a future with him. I also need to point out that most of the toxicity was caused by straight women who were pointlessly attracted to these men on a gay dating show and started to pit them against each other out of misguided jealousy. That was truly vile to witness. They particularly made Dai out as a perfect prince charming and started to villainize Shun because they wished they were him.. Such bitter homophobic fruit flies should be banned from sticking their noses in gay men’s relationships (khm hao/bin akgaes khm).
Even though the show ended a while ago I’m so happy to listen to your views on the show. I loved the Boyfriend and still go back to watch it from time to time. Looking forward to your reactions from the other episodes 😂
First of all I love that you kept the little heads at the bottom of the screen, very cute. I always say this when people lose their minds over reality shows but remember folks: you do not know these people. The editing, the specific surroundings of this filming and finally their own personas are all walls separating you as an audience and these people. Keep that in mind when you try to be armchair psychologist. Also that chicken shake is... a hate crime against all people who enjoy food.
I was one of the people who recommended you check out the boyfriend, however said His Man sucked. I genuinely enjoyed both. What I appreciated about The boyfriend was production value (cinematography). I also loved that they got a month. Diversity of cast was great too.
I really loved your video! I'm especially hooked on 'The Boyfriend' because of Shun. When the show started, many were negative about him, except for a few unbiased reactors who understood him. It hurt seeing him getting hate for just being cautious in relationships, so I stopped watching reactions. I missed the show and saw your reaction, and you weren’t harsh on anyone. Thank you so much for being fair to both Daishun and understanding them .I really appreciate it!❤
Literally have been struggling to find something interesting to watch for the past few days then this popped up in my recommendations 🙏🏾🙏🏾 I always love your guys’ content
I've been waiting for you to do a review/recap of The Boyfriend since it first aired and now you're finally doing it after so many years! 😂 Anyways, I'm excited for the chaos!
It would be hard to pick what survival show to watch… You’ve got Ma Xing Jiang and the Bae173 member who was in Love Class S2 in Project 7. Lee Da Eul, Cong and Fantasy Boys in Starlight Boys. Then the beloved Woongki and Zhang Shuaibo in Universe League! For more quality performances I recommend Project 7. For more drama I recommend Starlight Boys.
I love this show so much I think every contestant really put themselves through the process and it was nice to see them grow, also I personally really appreciated the panel because I feel like they were very fair and worked on softening the opinions of the audience rather than purely adding to the drama. Probably because I never watched a Japanese dating show before but I was super surprised by how naturalistic the production was !seeing acne on screen made me so happy and I feel like the show was made with the intention of normalizing lgbt people so I appreciate it. Also daishuns relationship really taught me a-lot I think there’s certainly someone for everyone and those two really deserve each other haha
I thoroughly enjoyed this recap! I haven't watched the show at all (it unfortunately came out at the same time as 4MINUTES, so that took priority over this) but fun little fact, one of the panelists, Thelma, is the Dance Mentor on Produce 101 Japan S2 and THE GIRLS!
Yes Taeheon! He is full Korea and working/worked in Japan. Literally the most underrated member on the show! We saw more of his character/fun side from behind the scene content.
I still see shade to Junsungho to this day!?! It’s really unfortunate and people have no lives. Why can’t both couples have a platform and be happy omgg. bc I don’t get what makes people think one couple is “better”?
I was surprised they mentioned it, I didn’t even know people were shading them. I mean they came out first, were people expecting them to hide when a new couple came out???
I was listening to the video so when they said " 1.. 2..3 " and i heard nothing. I thought my internet was bad . I feel stupid 😂😂 i feel played and i feel used hahha
For me, it's like I'm coming to terms with my sexuality at the exact same time as the people around me are expecting me to start participating in the whole traditional get married to a straight person and have a family and all my relatives are just staring at me like MOVE
So here I was saying outloud TO MYSELF Taeheon's name while you ended it. Actually funny though, please never change and always end this one's like this.
i really enjoyed this show so i’m looking forward to y’all’s commentary on it. at the end ryota ended up stealing my heart most but i love shun as well. he was a piece of work honestly but i wouldn’t say it’s toxic like some others. he made real growth on this show and with dai.
you guys should watch the unreleased clip, some of them showing fun, different side (if you wanna call it feme, but they call it gyaru haha) of taehoon. maybe because he didn’t have much story in the show that why they decide to not putting much of his scene on the show, glad they ended up releasing it.
57:33 uno reverse, lmao also would like to comment on that junseungho and daishun thing. i watched hisman2 first then boyfriend, i have a different kind of attachment to my jsh couple that i might be bissed while saying this but there's no f way that daishun and jsh can be compared. they have different nationalities, different backgrounds, different childhood, different lives particaly they are ought to be different like what even do you expect? jsh gives that level of comfort that no other gay couple can give (to me). daishun are good but pls don't compare them, people can have different opinions but disrespecting someone's relationship for your own fun is disgusting and very low.
People who called shun toxic , they dont know what a toxic person is!! He had lack of communication and inscurity , that is all ..coz he knew when he likes someone he will love from all his heart ..he wanted a husband and a family and that because of his past ..he had none ..ppl who didnt undrestand him are ppl who are lack empathy and forget that he is a human and real ppl not an actor ...anyw he got so much hate but in the same time he is the most loved and the most followed ...so yes world is still ok and fair
I thought the podcast episode was broken at the end so I came here to hear the rest of the episode and finally got the joke, lmao. Also, this is not a spoiler at all because they literally never mention or hint at this on the show, but I need to know whether you've seen Kazuto's feature film of the adult entertainment genre... the link was going around twt while the show aired
The thing that bothered me while watching it when it was airing is how many nuances were skipped in the translation and sometimes just completely untranslated phrases
Shun has issues (more will be revealed) , that doesn't mean he is isis . Now that they r together after the show , lets just say they seem to enjoy each other's company regardless
I haven’t watched the show and like you guys only knew about it a little tangentially, but DAI IS 22???? I also totally thought he was older, not in a bad way but he looks like a sexy mature guy
Ah, myths about bisexuality... Boy, if I tell you I'm okay with dating people of any height or hair color are you gonna be insecure dating me ? When it's about gender suddenly "I don't have a type" means "I have all the types and I need them all at the same time" ?? XD I think people who say that genuinely believe it's not biphobia since they found a justification.
Now, that's just mean! 😂 Since you already know the end result, I think you're gonna be seing some moments in a different light than the rest of us who watched it in real time not knowing did. I stil won't spoil of course, because the journey to actually getting there is a bumpy and some times really frustrating one. All I'll say is, be patient with them and show grace. They deserve it ❣
Well, about the pic thingy They were showing each other the pics they took today so Shun was scrolling through the pics Dai took that day thats when he was saying "I don't like them I got better one" and the nude was the forth pic cause Dai said "look at these three" so I assumed that Dai took the nude that day or like the day before and I think that's why shun was upset as in you told me you like me just the beginning of the week and I told you about my player ex 2 days ago and today you have a new fresh nude 🤨
Not the end of the video being exacly how they end the episodes 😂
Dai was playing the long game. Man was there on a mission 😂😂. Calculated steps and everything.
I think it’s very iconic of taehoon to be like “my family doesn’t know I’m gay, imma go to a gay dating show and I guess they’re gonna find out now”
I agree with you guys 100%. The show was great. Folks were taking the show way too seriously. No one is perfect. A lot of viewers seem to sit on a moral high ground. But what I saw was relatable authenticity and people in the middle of their growth journey. Even Alan mellowed out by the end.

Omg, you’re soo crazzzy!
That thumbnail, you kill me. Love it.
Didnt know i needed this today!
For the final episode you gotta drink a boiled chicken smoothie
LMAO ummm
Shouldn’t they make a coffee?
Yes Taeheon! He is full Korea and working/worked in Japan. Literally the most underrated member on the show! We saw more of his character/fun side from behind the scene content.
We need a season two or something...... this show was so gooooooooooood
i was sick at home when these were coming out on Netflix, it is so good
I still see shade to Junsungho to this day!?!
Never would I thought on this channel would I be hearing the names Cade Maddox and Brock Banks 😂😭💀
I was listening to the video so when they said " 1.. 2..3 " and i heard nothing. I thought my internet was bad . I feel stupid 😂😂 i feel played and i feel used hahha
A discord with a Not Me community??? PLZ LET ME INNNN 😫😫😫😫
i want to see them react to it too
For me, it's like I'm coming to terms with my sexuality at the exact same time as the people around me are expecting me to start participating in the whole traditional get married to a straight person and have a family and all my relatives are just staring at me like MOVE
So here I was saying outloud TO MYSELF Taeheon's name while you ended it. Actually funny though, please never change and always end this one's like this.
I'm actually obsessed with Shun but I have unconventional tastes, Anastasia.
Why did the ending have me GAGGED omg😭😭😔
i really enjoyed this show so i’m looking forward to y’all’s commentary on it. at the end ryota ended up stealing my heart most but i love shun as well. he was a piece of work honestly but i wouldn’t say it’s toxic like some others. he made real growth on this show and with dai.
you guys should watch the unreleased clip, some of them showing fun, different side (if you wanna call it feme, but they call it gyaru haha) of taehoon.
maybe because he didn’t have much story in the show that why they decide to not putting much of his scene on the show, glad they ended up releasing it.
That ending was so dirty! I can’t believe you pulled that on us 😭
I HAVE BEEN WAITING
i knew it was coming but i love the ending lol
YOOOO I AM SCREAMIINGG!
IM SO SAT FOR THIS
WE CELEBRATE WE'RE SO DELIGHTED
57:33 uno reverse, lmao
also would like to comment on that junseungho and daishun thing.
i watched hisman2 first then boyfriend, i have a different kind of attachment to my jsh couple that i might be bissed while saying this but there's no f way that daishun and jsh can be compared.
they have different nationalities, different backgrounds, different childhood, different lives particaly they are ought to be different like what even do you expect?
jsh gives that level of comfort that no other gay couple can give (to me).
daishun are good but pls don't compare them, people can have different opinions but disrespecting someone's relationship for your own fun is disgusting and very low.
Why are people even comparing them, there is no reason to do that.
love the ending
not the cliffhanger😂😂
People who called shun toxic , they dont know what a toxic person is!! He had lack of communication and inscurity , that is all ..coz he knew when he likes someone he will love from all his heart ..he wanted a husband and a family and that because of his past ..he had none ..ppl who didnt undrestand him are ppl who are lack empathy and forget that he is a human and real ppl not an actor ...anyw he got so much hate but in the same time he is the most loved and the most followed ...so yes world is still ok and fair
does kazuto not remind you of neo from gmmtv? like a strange fourth-neo mix… that’s the vibe i got. (complimentary!)
I hate y’all for that ending 😭😭😂😂
I thought the podcast episode was broken at the end so I came here to hear the rest of the episode and finally got the joke, lmao. Also, this is not a spoiler at all because they literally never mention or hint at this on the show, but I need to know whether you've seen Kazuto's feature film of the adult entertainment genre... the link was going around twt while the show aired
oh
Not this ending 😂 Wasn't the stay with me one enough? SMH
The thing that bothered me while watching it when it was airing is how many nuances were skipped in the translation and sometimes just completely untranslated phrases
Ah! I THOUGHT YOU WEREN'T REACT TO THIS ICON...
Love the ppulbatu plushies 😍
U mother … u did the cut out! Lol. Nice.
Best ending ever
Shun has issues (more will be revealed) , that doesn't mean he is isis . Now that they r together after the show , lets just say they seem to enjoy each other's company regardless
FINALLLYYYYYY
FINALLYYYYYYYAH!! LOL
P.S. Hilarious ending
I haven’t watched the show and like you guys only knew about it a little tangentially, but DAI IS 22???? I also totally thought he was older, not in a bad way but he looks like a sexy mature guy
Kazuto has a collection of ummm things ...
Im back in my boyfriend error ❤
I agree the couch was ugly😅
lmao the end???
Ah, myths about bisexuality... Boy, if I tell you I'm okay with dating people of any height or hair color are you gonna be insecure dating me ? When it's about gender suddenly "I don't have a type" means "I have all the types and I need them all at the same time" ?? XD I think people who say that genuinely believe it's not biphobia since they found a justification.
Yey finally!
Omg you need to do not me
2:00 japon in français 😅😂
merde!
not a shun fan and not exactly a hater either but a secret third thing. glad you guys are finally watching this though ❤
Yey!!!!!!! Finaly🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thank you to all who voted for this!
Finallyyyy 🤭
Yas yas yas yas YAAAAAASSSSSSSS🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I hate u guys!! Not the “cliff hanger”
Now, that's just mean! 😂
Since you already know the end result, I think you're gonna be seing some moments in a different light than the rest of us who watched it in real time not knowing did. I stil won't spoil of course, because the journey to actually getting there is a bumpy and some times really frustrating one. All I'll say is, be patient with them and show grace. They deserve it ❣
Well, about the pic thingy
They were showing each other the pics they took today so Shun was scrolling through the pics Dai took that day thats when he was saying "I don't like them I got better one" and the nude was the forth pic cause Dai said "look at these three" so I assumed that Dai took the nude that day or like the day before and I think that's why shun was upset as in you told me you like me just the beginning of the week and I told you about my player ex 2 days ago and today you have a new fresh nude 🤨
Shun is not bad.... He just not the type of person that i will date. Good luck for Dai..
You couldn't get a shun if your life depended on it. Don't be silly now🤣🤣🤣Be sffr! Dream in your league
He doesnt like woman so you are not his type also 😂
Reaction to izna debuts trailer
HisMan 3 did suck 😂😂
The Boyfriend was so good though
