Very nice to ⛵ sail from beautiful Hawaii islands to Alaska .I m living 40 years in Hawaii islands 🏝. Next year in 2023 I m sailing to Cape Horn nonstop and around the world ⛵ 🌎, probably to Alaska too . I wishing a fair winds and following seas ⛵ 🌊
Hello guys! I started following you about 2 months ago, and I am now watching your past videos from the start of your journey. I was raised on the water. I live in Maryland and my Dad always took me and my brother out on his sailboat in the Chesapeake bay. We still go out, he has a 38 foot boat that he sails between Maryland and Florida. I really wish that I could be doing what you guys are doing, but I chose a different path being I decided to start a family. I have a thirteen year old daughter that needs my support and stability. I just wanted to say how great it is that my daughter and I can watch and vicariously, be a part of your journey. I hope that when she gets older, your adventurous spirit influences her in life.
Another excellent video from the real professionals who always tell it like it is. That's what makes you head and shoulders above all other videos. Continued success and safe passages for your sailings. Two thumbs up!!
I just found your channel and instantly became a Patron. Your videos are full of so much soul and they're very beautiful. Can't wait to make it through all the other videos!
Congrats on reaching Alaska. Enjoyed watching this episode and appreciate how both of you are conservative and safe sailors, reefing early or leaving the reef in, if in doubt.
Watching RAN Sailing is such a welcomed period of relaxation. Your voices the explanations and the moments of humor, ( I guess we’ll have to eat some 🍌) are all so welcomed . I know you’re in Alaska now so enjoy the northern most state and come ashore. When I was up there the people are very nice.
I always look forward to these episodes, and especially enjoy the sailing parts. Johan has become an excellent drone pilot....thank you both for your videos.
I cant help but think you have heard of the Kon Tiki expedition with Thor Hyrdal (forgive spelling). They were cruising on a balsawood raft! You will sail past Vancouver Island at some point.I will wave a hand your way! CHEERS from CANADA
Hi folks, Been following your videos for about a year now. I saw you at the top of POW island then anchored across from you in snug harbor. Lumpy seas the next am ! SV Ulicia
10:46 Thank you! I had wondered why you left from Costa Rica instead of further north instead, on the map, it looks like it would have made for a better trip. But with this explanation of the winds, it makes much more sense now. Also, I'm surprised you didn't get another tow-prop since the last one was lost. well, this was of course 3 years ago... I'm still catching up, looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey.
I enjoy spending time with you on the voyage, experiencing the squalls, cruising the coast, and adjusting to the movement of the sea. Very nice, thanks.
Fantastic video again folks. All that stress involved with the preparation before you departed Hawaii eventuated in nothing...so, DON'T STRESS...it's no good for you! From what I have seen of you on previous videos, nothing that happens to you seems to be a big deal...always capably dealt with by Johann and Malin, as usual, well done! Happy sailing on the next leg of your adventure.
If you get down near Seattle, WA USA then please stop in to Poulsbo, WA. It's a beautiful little Norwegian style town you both would love I'm sure. I'll be following along so that if you do, I'll even show you two around.
Both of you be safe God's watching both of you, now I have a suggestion, when you get to your destination try and get some under water shots it is so beautiful ', fair winds my friends
Well you on your way to a nothern pacific passage finally you must be so excited. May the wind be in your favor. congratulations. :) peace and happy sailing
I love the complicity you two have. Hope you plan to travel the East Coast of Canada and make it to the Halifax, NS region. Would love to meet you guys!
While watching yall go thru that squall here in n florida we had our own....a clap of thunder like a cannon going off nearly had me ducking under the table. Have a safe trip Ran!
When I heard about the unexpected high seas that caused sv kelaerin to be abandoned, had hoped u two were ok being u both left hawaii within days of each other. Happy to see all appears well, enjoy alaska!
Thanks for another awesome episode! As I've said so many times before, I love the calmness and the natural atmosphere in your videos. How did it go by the way with the gopro setup for the underwater filming, Johan? Did you find any smart solution? Cheers, Steffi
I was reminded in the recap at the beginning of the apparent water damage to the underside of the deck above where you had fitted the new heater. I hope this isn't anything to be concerned about. You are now at least 3 weeks ahead of this video so I hope all is well. Should have arrived somewhere now. Sail easy and keep warm.
I’d been off grid a couple of weeks, and thought I was crazy. I thought you guys were caught up in Hector and I was worried. Lucky today I got the update and saw you were 3 days out of Hawaii. That’s great, looking forward to the journey onward. Have a good sail. I loved the waters off Hawaii, they were my best.
great video! enjoying following you on your travels!! hope you have great weather for the whole trip. I hope you do get to go back to Hawaii again too. I loved it there and hope to go back again.
Johan, you should check out “ Sailing Emerald Steel “ they sailed down the west coast recently and show a lot of places to visit or to anchor. Very informative I’m sure you would enjoy there channel . Fairwinds to you and you guys stay safe and have fun. L👀king forward to the next video 👍 !
My father used to say " If the wind before the rain, you shall set topsails again, if the rain before the wind (Pronounced wine) topsails furl, halyards bind"
Hi Malin and Johan. I realize that it is not in your plans, but do you think a boat like Ran could sail through the Northwest Passage in the summertime (to reach the Atlantic)? Also, I do understand that you intend to visit B.C. and hope that you will stop by in the Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and show us that.
Love all that you do !! Malin, you looked beautiful more than usual in the opening commentary. Johan, you are a lucky man !! Love you boh. 😊🆗✅✴️✨🥂⛵️⚓️🚣✨
Wow, so quickly. Fair winds, its not a typical trip. I know your probably there by now but I'll look at the weather in my Pacific...ok, I do see a nice wind path if your going directly north and then swinging east to Kodiak. So, if that wind stays it will be perfect That said, I'd hate to try to get to California right now, or anywhere on the west coast. Wind blowing right at you. 8/10/18 Michael (aha, wow, Petersburg ! )
If you stayed in Hawaii much longer, Hurricane Lane would have been a distraction to the calm weather. Plus Alaska weather is going to get cold in another month or so. Good decision to go.

No matter how hectic life is I always find peace watching RAN videos. Thank you both for sharing your wonderful adventure with us
I never realized how close Hawaii is to Alaska, much less that the ocean current flows south along the western US coast. Thanks guys!!
Enjoyed Johan's description of squalls. He has a lot of miles under his keel. A true sailor.
Another excellent video from the real professionals who always tell it like it is. That's what makes you head and shoulders above all other videos. Continued success and safe passages for your sailings. Two thumbs up!!

Yes, it’s absolutely doable in a boat like Ran. A friend of mine did it some years ago in a 31 ft grp boat! 😀 Cheers!
Another great episode, safe sailing
