This is the song I return to listen when I want to hear old The Agonist. The first two albums were the best the band could give to us.
Yes!! I try to like the new sings but without her it's just not the same. She is what made this band, she went on to do better with a band that has been around longer and is doing amazing in arch enemy. I miss her vocals but can't with the new singer, her vocals are nowhere as good as Alyssa's.
IMO this band is technically better than Arch Enemy. I like Loomis but the continued melodic sound forced on them by Michael Amott just kills it for me. This band did what they wanted and that is a good thing. Arch enemy seems to be making music to get airplay now. That is not a good thing.
3rd was great too tho.
I wish she stayed with The Agonist, I reckon they could have became bigger than Arch Enemy with her at the helm. All Arch Enemy did was stay in the same boat they have always been and The Agonist with new singer... well they should have had an open door policy until they found the one to make them continue to rise.

Lol that wasn’t true. If it were true then we would see these types of lyrics being played out in The Agonist rn. Which they’ve gone to simplistic lyrics. The last album that had lyrics like these was Prisoners. Which was her last album with The Agonist.
I miss this agonist.. they hit so hard back then.. Its sad Alissa isnt with the band anymore.. they made some masterpieces.. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
As much as I love Alissa, I think the way she left was a bit selfish. Granted everyone wants to up their game, but to leave a semi successful band in the lurch while maybe being the new Arch Enemy vocalist is a bit wrong. Plus the incident with a photographer a few years back was a bit weird - Angela as manager won't let anyone photograph Alissa unless approved which is why you rarely see her apart from on stage. For a beautiful woman heading the band, you'd think all exposure would be good? Just my take
@@paulbooth77 thats why i liked the original agonist.. they were creative and had an amazing sound together… not just alyssa everyone in the agonist is very talented.. as a drummer i can say their drummer is incredible.. the way he plays off tempo is really difficult to do.. i have trouble playing off tempo notes.. like their the song the tempist is extremely difficult to play on drums.. i only seen one drummer on youtube that covers it and played it perfectly and even added a few things to it.
@@dragonrider4339 I can't comment on tempo etc as I'm not a musician, but definitely recognise the complexity of their song structures. They were and still are an incredibly underrated band. Vicky adds a different tone to the vocals but the core sound is still there.
Vicky can also do the growl to clean effortlessly which was Alissa's trait so she's perfect for the Agonist. I really like Arch Enemy's releases with AWG, but not going to forget The Agonist as VP is superb
I wish she had stayed in this band.They did some amazing stuff together.

@@justincampbell716 You're gonna have to check out some of the classic death metal bands, many vocalists in their 50's and still growl mostly the same. In fact, extreme metal vocalists seem to even get better with time unlike clean vocalists for many other styles (including metal). Don't know why and don't know the correlation, but it happens.

Arch Enemy is a Melodic Death Metal band and The Agonist is a Metalcore band. Yes, they're different. And I like them both.
Alyssa was better in this band though

Alissa (featured in this video) is gone now, she's in Arch Enemy. Vicky is their new singer starting on their last album and the new one coming out in a few days. She's pretty awesome still. Different from Alissa, not better or worse in my opinion.

Another thing I admire about them is that they took her positive, compassionate lifestyle and made it into the principles they try to spread in their songs. Watching interviews/webisodes, I uncovered she's straight edge, vegan, fosters animals who are soon to be euthanized and gave advice to a young girl in the MTV's Made episode. I just think her physical appearance adds to the deadly combination of her attitude, actions and messages-more respect to her.

joshua cook I disagree, the 90's had some good music, but metal went through a period of malaise in that decade. There were a lot of great breakout acts in the 2000's, and a lot of veterans were putting out some quality stuff as well.

John Roush Mainstream metal might have sucked during that time period, but the 90's, particularly the early part had some of the absolute sickest death metal releases ever. "With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness", and "Slaughter of the Soul", "The Somberlain" and "Storm of the Light's Bane", "Blessed are The Sick", "Covenant", "Serpents of the Light", "Tomb of the Mutilated", the list goes on and on.

Screaming in itself does in fact destroy vocal cords, but when using it in music, there is a particular way you do it so it does not cause damage. Alissa does it correctly for the most part. Some of the screams where she hits high notes and her voice cracks, she is actually screaming and thats bad, but the growling voice she uses is not messing up her vocal chords at all. She is doing it quietly into a mic so it sounds loud. It's actually very difficult and takes lots of practice.
People are still debating their genre on here? This is PURE metalcore, period. Only a deaf man would say this is melodeath. Or did we not listen to the same song? The breakdowns, the vocals, it´s all metalcore.

10 YEARS Since this record went out, still a killer track
Alissa is so beautiful, has perfect hair, nails,body etc and yet the lyrics condemn artificially created beauty ( plastic body parts,fashion etc ) I find it pretty ironic. I think it is natural for a not-so-beautiful woman / one who thinks she isn't beautiful to want to enchance herself. I also think that a beautiful woman saying ''fuck you'' to beauty is hypocritical bullshit. You can't really cherish it until you lose it / don't have it. Some of the lyrics aside, I really like this song and thank you pain.

1) Her hair dye is vegan yes, which agrees with the ''skin alived'' part of the lyrics. But not with the ' salon hair'' part.
2) If she was against the use of beauty, she wouldn't try to enhance her beauty by using cool clothes, hair dye and what not.
3) A beautiful woman can condemn society. She can also condemn artificial beauty when she herself has plenty of it. She can do it, I am just pointing out, it is hypocritical.
4) I am. And most people, consciously or unconsciously do, too. Alissa herself ( and her managers or w/e ) knows she will be judged on appearance, which is why she changes her clothes etc to fit into the general ''metal chick '' theme and not the general '' standard beauty '' theme.

John Roush lack of funding from 1998 to today? If they can not care for the animals, maybe they should not take them in the first place. Especially since in normal shelters the euthanasia rates are lower.
