I think I like E.T.A. Hoffman’s original the best. I do like the Dumas version too. I feel like most versions of the ballet may actually be closer to Dumas! So glad you are on team Nutcracker and reading it too. My little ballerina is a party guest, snow, waltz of the flowers, and most notably in the Arabian pas de trois( two guys and a girl-she is off the floor a lot😊). I can’t remember The Quiet Little Woman at all! I know I have read it because it was in my childhood library. I just downloaded it on Hoopla! It’s a 32 minute listen. It will keep me company over some laundry folding or dinner prep.

@@novelideea Only in recent years, did I realise that music from the series wasn't written for it, it's from Victor Hey-Hutchinson's Carol Symphony, listening to that is lovely too.
Sounds like a lot of great options! The only version of The Nutcracker I've read is the one by Alexandre Dumas. I should probably read the original at some point.
Did you invade my December TBR? 😂 I’m reading Dickens 5 novellas, I have Wintering on hold at the library, I’m reading that same LMA book, and I’m reading Chesterton for Advent. 😮 Very weird…but cool. I think I’m gonna like the Chesterton book of like essays for Advent.
@@ReadJournalLove 😵💫😂 That is funny! Is the Wintering the same author? There are two others by the same title that are more recently published. Here’s to hoping we both enjoy them all!
I love that version of A Christmas Carol! Trina Schart Hyman's illustrations are so lovely💗. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!🦃

I love 'The Box of Delights' there's a lovely TV adaptation that I have on DVD from 1984.
That is lovely to hear that you enjoy it so much! Makes me even more ready to dive into it!

I remember that TV show! They showed it in the US on a program called "Wonderworks" on PBS. I loved it!

@@Coffee_and_a_Book For Years I thought Dumas WAS the original 🤭
@@novelideea I can see that. I heard about both versions around the same time, but I read Dumas first because I found a really pretty edition.
