Such a pity you didnt have a guide, lots of buildings described are still in use such as the church opposite the post office, known as "the circle" s large multi use entertainment centre BA(Y)CUP star taxis still very much in business. Yorkshire st, not in the middle of lancashire, 2 miles from Yorkshire border Bacup market, £25 a week, sadly neglected by the council who have decided to throw the traders off, some after 30/40 years and knock it down Interestingly, the lady at the butchers stall, is local journalist and Author , Catherine Smyth, who wrote the book" weirdo, mosher, freak" the Sophie Lancaster story
Fortunately, there is now a load of money being spent on doing up the town centre. About £10m. If you'd have been in town this Saturday you'd have seen it in a totally different light, it was heaving and all the shops were busy. Very different town.
2.20-2.45 Bacup Library with the scaffolding, the roof repairs took a few months longer to complete because the new lead was stolen, twice, as soon as it went on. The company had to employ an overnight security guard in the end to get the job finished.
it breaks my heart to see how my home town has gone so far down the pan. When i was a Kid Bacup had everything going for it the town centre used to be buzzing now all of the factories have closed down even the factory i spent nine years of my working life is now sadly gone which was E Suttons & Sons i loved my Time working there. I haven't been home in almost 25 years i don't think i could bear to see the town as it is now. 😢😢
The large stone roofless building up the brew was the vibrant indoor market with shops on the street below it. The outdoor market was across the road infront of the Police Station. Now peoples homes. The white tiled building also with no roof on Burnley Road was the beautiful Regal Cinema, both are owned by the same person. Sad. Union Street where a lady was stood in the doorway a double fronted shop. Was owned by my mum Norah Wilson maiden name who ran it as a gown shop as they were called in those days in the early 1940's & lived above it when I was born 80yrs ago.Still being run as a shop.... SAD TO SEE HOW NEGLETED BACUP IS NOW.
hi can you remember what year the indoor market closed down? I'm 62 and i'm sure it was open when i was a nipper i remember my Mam pushing me up the police brew and there were stalls going all the way up to the top. Now that must have been around 1964 but i remember it.
@@pathfinder1962Its been shut down for over 10 years and was demolished last year around February 2023 they are rebuilding it after they finish building an Aldi next to Morrisons 😊
Bacup is the birthplace of the late Johnny Clegg. He only spent 3 month living in this town as a newborn before his Grandpa took him and his mother Muriel back to Southern Rhodesia. Would be nice to put something up in this town to honour this man. I paid a visit in 2021. I met a few drug addicts who were stoked I came to visit this town in honour of Johnny Clegg.
Never have I heard someone exclaim so desperately about a bricked up door. To help with your commentary, why don't you find out a bit about where you're going? Might help with the tone and direction of your videos.
What a shame indeed mark. Might as well be Hanley your walking around. When are you uploading the york vlog. ?? So i can cheer myself up.. keep up the good work
Lady pronounced it Bake-up!... You're doing a good job documenting both the good and the bad in the United Kingdom in 2024. Keep up the good work Marky.
Bacup is not dying out at all cause you filmed a couple of abandoned buildings were was you on Saturday the 30th of March to film this TH-cam video people like you are to quick to judge you've just filmed the garage which repairs cars.. you've come on a day we're it's raining why don't you go to stubble Lee Park.. we've just had our church renovated into a restaurant and the library is being done up come back in 6 months time.. this was pointless video

Thank you so much for the information, and yes it's very sad to see the decline of so many of our towns 😞

Never a mention of brassic. Great filming locations
I went to "Baycup" 40 years ago it was a dump then.
the church is used for a social club called the circle
You’re absolutely correct, worlds apart from Todmorden. Except they’ve just closed the Wetherspoons there, beautiful building being sold off!
Unbelievable 😞

To be fair, its quite tricky to decline from 0

What a shame mate 😔such beautiful buildings
the bingo hall is being renovated soon and the demolished building was to make way for new market
Looks like Royston Vasey from League of Gentlemen!
Part of it was filmed there
And brassic
And Peaky Blinders.
Pointless video, should ask the locals what's going on in their town.
Jesus...so dreary I stopped watching. Weirdest thing...you never see Norway looking so bad and they're further North.
