In this video, we take a deep dive into the Delonghi Eletta Explore. Why a deep dive? At nearly $2,000, this is a big investment. So, I show hot espresso drinks, hot milk based drinks, cold brew, cold cappuccino, travel mug Americano, hot cocao, and more. We even weigh out the dry weight doses to see just how large the pucks are. Finally, we takes some temperature measurements to see how hot, and how cold this machine produces drinks. Sorry that this video is so long. The machine just has so many functions! Please use the timestamps above to jump to the section you want to see. Pricing and reviews here: geni.us/DelonghiElettaExplore (affiliate link)
Good morning, Tom. This machine deserves a thorough review. No worries. Thanks!
Don't worry, Tom
From my perspective most of your active viewers don't mind longer videos. In fact I personally prefer longer style videos with more detail and depth.
It is good that it is detailed. TH-cam has no shortage of short uninformative reviews, that not help you decide which machine is good for your use case. They only good enough to put machine on your radar, and that's all.
So thank you, it was helpful!
No apologies necessary. You can always add the word "in-depth" or "deep dive" to indicate to viewer that is going to be a longer review.
good info though
When it comes to TCC, there's no such thing as a "video too long". Thank you Tom, really enjoyed your take on this machine.
Thank you for taking the time to show us all of its capabilities. Have a great day! 👍🏻✌🏼
Excellent review! Thank you, Tom.
We have a Magnifica ESAM 4200 that's in its 15th year - regularly serviced, parts replaced as needed and it works pretty much as new. We also have (an even older) GCP and MDF grinder: I prefer the espresso from this combo but the Delonghi makes about 90% of the coffee in our house because it's so easy. They are great machines and it's interesting to see what a modern one can do. Thank you for your videos, always interesting.
Exquisite, exactly what I was waiting for. A very thorough demo on functions and UI of this great unit.
I had no idea I would be this interested in watching a video about super automatics.
You gotta know its a delonghi super auto, when you hear them start. I have a magnifica S at my office and it sounds exactly same way.
It's always weird to me how you say, that your beans are 3-4 weeks old, in my area all local roasters roast on daily basis (I guess pour over/filter is more popular and customers always ask for their beans to be ground) so I have to wait a week before indulging in a cup of specialty coffee.
Cheers!
Awesome review. Very helpful, thank you.
Outstanding review….you have really helped take the complications out of choosing the best machine for my family. I am truly thankful for you!
Awesome, glad to help!
Great Video as usual. Great content. I recently bought a Gaggia Brera Super Automatic machine. Loving it so far, pretty good.
Thank you for the excellent review, you make it very easy to understand.😀
Thanks for that kind feedback. 🍀
Thank you! It's very helpful!
Very nice review
I hope you like it 😊 I love cold drinks and cold brew of this machine.
Got one on the 10th, it's a great machine! We love the ability of doing a great range of cold and hot drinks!
how is it now Yarin? How is the froth?
@@gosman949 The froth is amazing, you can choose how thick you want it.
Excellent review! Still, it makes me appreciate my simple Melita filter machine even more. Less time spent cleaning, and quicker set-up :) To me, a real "superautomatic" machine should somehow take care of everything, and not require multiple steps of cleaning, or replacing the milk container for just hot water.
I love your long videos and such complete reviews! Thank you Tom. When a Rivelia review by the way? ;)
Thanks so much! Rivelia should be coming soon enough. Cheers!
Even if you're into the snobbish espresso culture, you can admit that there is definitely market for automatic coffee machines such as this. It's comfortable to use, has many features, can produce different types of drinks. Can be a life-saver for many.
And much cheaper than going to Starbucks!
Great video Tom
I’ve had my explore for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it
Just can’t wait for the summer to try a few cold brew coffees
Hi, thank you for a great video. Any thoughts on why a brand new Delonghi Eletta Explore would have a very slow drip on grind setting 4 and below, could it depend on the beans or has it something to do with the settings?
thanks for the detailed review.
can you please compare a delonghi machine to a jura machine ☺️
I used to own a few jura and philips super automatic espresso machines but I find that using fresh coffee beans + aeropress + heavy cream is all I need to get my fix.
Great review and am ordering one. Shame the coffee only ships within Germany or Austria. Any advice on online criteria for beans suitable for these machines? I don’t have access locally to roasteries or artisan shops so online is my best option (SW France).
i thought about this. i have the model or do before. i have had it 10 years. the thing i do not like aboyt this new one is you canot froth your own milk. mine you can use the carafe or attach a steam wand.
Would be awesome to see this compared to the new Kitchenaid KF7/KF8
Great review. Appreciate all the detail and nuances discussed. Was reading about the Dinamica power button popping off on some purchasers. I’m also seeing multiple reviews for Jura and Delonghi where people are having coffee makers bricked with little to no support, with some literally being ignored by OEM. Any thoughts? Just sensors and people not getting them clean in the right spots?
Sorry, I have not dealt with such issues, even with the Delonghi ECAM we have had for years at work. The main issue for us is just descaling. If you don't, the lines can get clogged. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Cheers Tom. I figure it’s isolated incidents and potential grounds or other debris knocking sensors out. Guess I just need to purchase and enjoy some good coffee!!
Interesting channel and nice review however I personally really mis the maintenance part, how it is done, is it hard to do, easy tot do, also compared to competitors etc.
I will have to do another video in the future. Cheers!
Nice machine & review. However Galaxus has a used Dinamica Plus for 500€ right now, and would come with a 24mo warranty - considering that one for the office...
Can't go wrong for that price!
Nice review. Machine looks nice for a small office. However as you said Dinamica offers a lot of these options as well. #Eletta
Hi Tom. It was really useful. Quick one. do you think the bar pressure is 9 for this machine?
That’s a good question. I should attach an animator in line one time and have a look. I’m guessing it is somewhere between six and nine, considering the end result.
There is the cheaper Eletta Cappuccino, which seems similar to the Evo which am also considering
How is the hopper size?? compared to others??
How is the water reservoir size?
Awesome Review, Can you review and compare Saeco Xelsis Suprema 8899 aslo? nearly similar price.
Great video as always
I set up my brothers elleta before one month I’ve also set the grinder to number 4 but never measured the amount
I’m confused with something and I need your help
In the doppio + option the machine grinds 15gramms .Get it that
In espresso (+ option ) with intensity on 5 the machine also grinds 15gramms?
Thanks in advance
I did a ton of tests, and found the 2x Espresso and Doppio+ to grind the longest (around 10 seconds).
As for espresso, it was like this:
Espresso Aroma 1: 5 seconds
Espresso Aroma 2: 6 seconds
Espresso Aroma 3: 7 seconds
Espresso Aroma 4: 8 seconds
Espresso Aroma 5: 9 seconds
So, it ranged between 8 and 14 grams or so (about 1.5 grams per second of grinding time), based on those trials. Cheers!
Nice review!
What about sugar? How can I add or even mix sugar to a cold brew cappuccino, for example?
You can add sugar afterwards, if you like.
Thank you for the review!! My intention was to purchase a Sage (Breville) Barista Pro coffee machine. I know they're from different categories, but after seeing the review for this machine, I'm at a crossroads. Is there a significant difference in the quality of the coffee shot between these two machines that justifies the effort of making coffee manually? What is your recommendation for me? Thanks in advance!!
Well, I am not going to go out on a limb and say this is as good as, or better than a semi-automatic portafilter machine. But if you choose the maximum dosage (intensity), and watch your ratios, I think it's going to get most users pretty close, depending on how developed your palate is. And I think that is why these are so popular. A lot of people would prefer the convenience of a superauto, over a semi-auto. I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/wL3dPH2HrUw/w-d-xo.html
Are the to go,cold, hot, favorite buttons backlit? I just received my unit and they are really dark. Only the horizontal light turns on when selected. I think video cameras enhance the look but wanted to get your feedback. Thanks and great review!
No, they are just pictures, not backlit.
Eletta Explore Cold Brew ECAM450.65.S VS Eletta Explore ECAM450.86.T : What is the difference between them? Can you explain?
I bought the machine directly Delonghi. It does not support the app . I called Delonghi and asked how to use the app, they said it did not support the app, probably why they were selling if for $1499 US. It has been is use every day for the past 2 years, no problems so far. I see all your temperatures are in Celsius. My hot drinks reach 190 degrees F. When you are making tea it will adjust temperature to the type of tea you are using.
You bought the older model without the app and cold brew function.
@@thedude2897 Mine has hot and cold LatteCrema feature. Not complaining as I got the machine for $1499 US. I notice the price has dropped on DeLonghi web site to $1799. I suspect a new mode in the works.
@philipjc1 Right. You have model ecam45055S which is the older model without the app and cold brew. The ecam45086S is the newest model with the functions that costs a tad more.
Hey! For espresso, at what number do you recommend I put the grinder and not to force the espresso machine? As coffee I use delonghi 80% Arabica 20% Robusta. Thank you!
I generally run between 3-4 on mine, with fresh beans. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Tank you!
What doing would you recommend for the " preground coffee" ?
Put in 12-14 grams and let er rip!
If you choose Cappuccino Mix or Flat White recipes, the machine will pour espresso first and milk after. 21:05
Hey Tom, first of all thanks for the video! I'm able to get the saeco xelsis suprema for the same price as the eletta, would you go this route ?
Sorry, I don't know that machine...
@@TomsCoffeeCorner no worries, thanks for answering though!
Great Video! What is the exact model of the machine you reviewed?
Hi! It's the 450.86, linked here: geni.us/DelonghiElettaExplore (affiliate link)
Hi and thank you for the video. Not sure if I missed in case you told us, but can you mention the coffee beans you used?

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you!
Hi Tom! greetings from Spain!. We love coffee at home, and of course your job with it!. We learn a lot with you, please continue doing what you do.
I have a simple question with this machine. ¿The brew group of this machine is the same in the delonghi rivelia? The reason for this question is because we are considering buying the rivelia. We are looking for a super automatic machine able to make great expresso (10 expressos per day at home) and that particular machine sims to have the same brew group like the dinamica plus or eletta. On the other hand we aren't interested at all in the milk steamer (we don't use it). Now, in Spain we can buy the rivelia without the automatic steamer at 579€ and we think it is a good choice. But we would like to know your advice. Thanks a lot!!
Buenos dias! The Rivelia has a slightly smaller brew group, but I guess it can do the same size doses. At least that's what they told me at the store. The Rivelia is really quite a nice machine. I will be releasing a teaser of it this week.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks a lot Tom!. Waiting for your teaser now.
Would be nice if you can review the Delonghi Rivelia in the future. The Bean switcher looks like it is very useful, for that reason alone I would switch from my Magnifica Start (Which I've been quite happy actually, in my tests, it actually grinds 16g consistently, especially if I single dose it.). Whenever I have friends at home, these machines are great. Doing 6-10 coffees in my bambino would be a pain in the ass :D
I agree, these are nice for multiple drinks! Rivelia hopefully in the near future.
Quick question, does this have a separate chute for decaf
Nope.
Hi. I bought the machine. Used for cold latte.. the coffee came out is hot,
the milk is in room temperature so why it is called ICED LATTE. whats the difference from the hot cafe latte.. Is my machine not functioning well or was my expectation too high ( I thought the coffee will come out as cold)- hot milky drinks (latte etc..) and espresso is pretty decent .. taste good
Well, the iced drinks require ice to cool them down more. I think the only drink that comes out cool is the cold brew, which is at about 40 degrees C. The other drinks require the ice to cool them down further. The milky drinks should be about ambient temperature milk foam, if you use the white milk carafe. Cheers!
So which De'longhi Superautomatic makes the best espresso and Capaccino drinks?
I think the Dinamica Plus would be my recommendation because it's a little cheaper, and makes the same drinks. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner one of the TH-camrs did a demo (they are Canadian) between the Plus and the Explore. The Explore had much finer froth. Did you find that to be true? Perhaps the newer models are getting better?
so which one to choose? Eletta Explore or dinamica plus ?
I'd save the money and get the Dinamica Plus, honestly.
Can you make a double shot latte with this machine? Thanks.
Yes, that would be a togo latte. Cheers!
Which one last longer and has a better and quality taste ?? 5400 Lattego or Eletta explore ?
Eletta Explore. I should do a comparison video. There's really no contest for me. Delonghi makes stronger espresso with bigger pucks, and milk foam is slightly better, too.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner what about durability ? How long does it last ?
What about the new Phillips latte go 5500 will you review?
Sorry, but I don't think I will invest in one. The Philips machines are not as good as Delonghi for me, since they make smaller pucks => weaker coffee. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks what about jura vs delgongi?
Hi, Great review on the Delonghi Eletta Explore. Can you manually steam the milk or do you have to use the milk tank?
You have to use the milk tank.
Woah that coffee grinder sounds still very loud. I was expecting more silence in this price point.
#Eletta i think i'll stick to my GCP 😊
I have this coffee machine, it's great, but for the second time in a year the flow meter was damaged.
It's under warranty and a new one will come, maybe this won't be a problem.
Sorry to hear that! Do you have really hard water? I wonder if the fins are getting clogged with scale, or if it's an issue with the part quality itself.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner yes, I have hard water, but I regularly descaled the coffee machine. A lot of people wrote about the same problem on Facebook groups. In a few days I will receive a new one of the same model and then we will see if the problem persists.
Hi Tom's, searching for a superautomatic coffee machine I have found your channel.... Awesome😮.
We are in doubt about buying the Delongui Eletta Explore or Phllips 5400 or Phillips 5500. The first one have a great offer on Delongui store and it has the same price as Phillips. According to your reviews I think Delongui is a better option. What do you think?
Thanks!
Delonghi is better, hands down.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom!!!
Is this better than dinamica plus?
I'd say it's the same, drink wise. Except this does cold drinks. Both made in Italy.
I've had both. I find the Eletta to be better.
Delonghi eletta explore VS Jura z10?🤔🤔
I don't know. Jura's machines actually feel quite cheap. Not sure about coffee in a direct comparison, I'd have to buy one.
This or dinamica plus?
I'd say they're the same. Take this if you want the cold brew, otherwise get the Dinamica for cheaper.
#Eletta
I bought it half a year ago and already repaired it twice.
Sorry to her that. What needed repairing?
@@TomsCoffeeCornerfirst time something with a grinder and second flowmeter.
But I dont think it can give us a true cold brew because real cold brew has to wait for 12 hours in fridge
You're right about that. But I think it does a fine job for a SA. Then again, I am not a cold brew drinker, so....
