I have Philips 5500 for 2nd day and totally agree, on top Philips has really loud water pump. Milk foam is really terrible. I will return it and change to this DeLonghi
We have a Magnifica ESAM 4200 that's in its 15th year - regularly serviced, parts replaced as needed and it works pretty much as new. We also have (an even older) GCP and MDF grinder: I prefer the espresso from this combo but the Delonghi makes about 90% of the coffee in our house because it's so easy. They are great machines and it's interesting to see what a modern one can do. Thank you for your videos, always interesting.
Exquisite, exactly what I was waiting for. A very thorough demo on functions and UI of this great unit. I had no idea I would be this interested in watching a video about super automatics. You gotta know its a delonghi super auto, when you hear them start. I have a magnifica S at my office and it sounds exactly same way. It's always weird to me how you say, that your beans are 3-4 weeks old, in my area all local roasters roast on daily basis (I guess pour over/filter is more popular and customers always ask for their beans to be ground) so I have to wait a week before indulging in a cup of specialty coffee. Cheers!
Even if you're into the snobbish espresso culture, you can admit that there is definitely market for automatic coffee machines such as this. It's comfortable to use, has many features, can produce different types of drinks. Can be a life-saver for many.
Thank you a lot I bought the machine based on this video and it’s fantastic The tips and instructions in this video helped a lot to utilize this magnificent machine.
Its not boring video at all its very helpful actually 😁. I bought same machine about few months ago And i love it and love the coffee taste from this machine
On the magnifica EVO, to do hot cocoa, you can drop the powder in the cup, attach the milk frother full, select the grinder bypass but don’t actually load any coffee, hit the my latte button, and it’ll empty the frother into the glass and then cancel itself because there’s no coffee in the bypass. Magical!
Excellent review! Still, it makes me appreciate my simple Melita filter machine even more. Less time spent cleaning, and quicker set-up :) To me, a real "superautomatic" machine should somehow take care of everything, and not require multiple steps of cleaning, or replacing the milk container for just hot water.
Great review! At the end of the day, I want a machine that makes a smooth tasty espresso. I saw a demonstration of the Dinamca Plus and the coffee tasted burnt.
Have you tried using the pre-ground coffee option, as I find the manual is not at all clear as to the precise procedure, particularly how to select ground coffee.
Interesting channel and nice review however I personally really mis the maintenance part, how it is done, is it hard to do, easy tot do, also compared to competitors etc.
Thanks for the review. A question tho. So every time you start the machine you need to put a cup under to get the cleaning water, right? How often do you turn the machine off then? Does it auto shut down when not being used for some time or you do that manually? Also how often would this cleaning thing affect me? Every morning?
@jonshepard85 thanks! I guess that's good to have a clean system but silly that you need to go to the machine twice in order to get a cup of coffee in the morning 🤔
Thanks for the review! It's been really helpful to understand how the machine works, but I have a question about iced coffee. When making iced coffee, how do you add sugar before the coffee is poured over the ice? Since the machine serves the hot coffee directly onto the ice, there's no time to add sugar beforehand. This is important because most people drink their coffee with sugar, and I'd love to know the best way to ensure it dissolves properly. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks!
I bought this machine after seeing this video but I’m really struggling with the machine. I have tried absolutely everything but my coffee is still so watery. I have no idea how your coffees look so good.

I bought the machine directly Delonghi. It does not support the app . I called Delonghi and asked how to use the app, they said it did not support the app, probably why they were selling if for $1499 US. It has been is use every day for the past 2 years, no problems so far. I see all your temperatures are in Celsius. My hot drinks reach 190 degrees F. When you are making tea it will adjust temperature to the type of tea you are using.
@@thedude2897 Mine has hot and cold LatteCrema feature. Not complaining as I got the machine for $1499 US. I notice the price has dropped on DeLonghi web site to $1799. I suspect a new mode in the works.
@philipjc1 Right. You have model ecam45055S which is the older model without the app and cold brew. The ecam45086S is the newest model with the functions that costs a tad more.
Hi Tom, great video. One question. I have the Eletta Explore and with the coffee intensity at maximum it only grinds 12g. Do you know if it only grinds that amount or if it can be adjusted to grind more grams? Thanks.
Hi Tom, thanks for de very detailed review! I've also checked your comparison video with the dynamica and the magnifica. However, something that I didn't see was, how does this machine prepares 2 drinks at the same time? Can it do that? Does it 2 times grind for both, or can it grind 1 time for a longer duration?
Interesting! So the addition of the COLD milk frother carafe adds an interesting wrinkle. Hmmm I have the magnifica EVO and every afternoon I just pull a dopio shot - squirt 4 pumps of tilorani white mocha sauce in a large glass, swirl in the glass, add about half way up with ice, and fill up the rest with milk. Add top, straw, swirl. I’m really wanting to know how the cold foam could enhance that.
Hey Tom, I have the same machine but what is the difference between the grinder control numbers 1 to 7? which number is better for espresso? how to make more coffee crema? Thank you !!
Thanks for video, it was very informative! I got mine week ago, I was wondering can we use Delonghi Eletta Explore for steam milk with pipe for tea or some other way to create steam to worm up milk for double express with milk…?
I have this machine and need to learn how to remove the beans from the hopper. There have been instances where I didnt like the coffee beans I purchased and wanted to replace them with another. Is there a way to do that without tipping the machine upside down.
I used to own a few jura and philips super automatic espresso machines but I find that using fresh coffee beans + aeropress + heavy cream is all I need to get my fix.
Thanks for the review! If you chose small size with intensity 5, that would grind for the same amount as x large with intensity 5? So the only difference with sizes is the amount of water/ratio? Essentially I’m trying to figure out how to get the best combo of size and strength.
I'm interested in the cold brew feature.. I've not had one before but I understand that you brew the coffee cold to remove the bitterness. You can then heat the coffee to have a less bitter hot coffee. Is that possible here or could you just put it in the microwave ?
Would be nice if you can review the Delonghi Rivelia in the future. The Bean switcher looks like it is very useful, for that reason alone I would switch from my Magnifica Start (Which I've been quite happy actually, in my tests, it actually grinds 16g consistently, especially if I single dose it.). Whenever I have friends at home, these machines are great. Doing 6-10 coffees in my bambino would be a pain in the ass :D
Hi, thank you for a great video. Any thoughts on why a brand new Delonghi Eletta Explore would have a very slow drip on grind setting 4 and below, could it depend on the beans or has it something to do with the settings?
When you did the dry weight, it was for the doppio. But when you brewed the 2 to 1 shot, it was for a single espresso and not the doppio. So wouldnt the doppio be about 30 grams in the cup and then the single espresso be like 15 or so grams in the cup? Or am I misunderstanding?
Tom, would you recommend this or the Rivelia for espresso? Im considering a coffee bar with a single boiler nachine, singke dosing grinder and then fully auto for guests and times when i cant do the ritual. We have delonghi at work and its so much better than pods. About 80-90pct of the quality i can get in my current breville and DF54 combo
Ive got my grinder on 4 but all my pucks are very sloppy and water in basket how can i fix it grinder was on 3 half when i first started it bit it was barely coming out so i changed it to 4 half though coffee has nice taste
That’s a good question. I should attach an animator in line one time and have a look. I’m guessing it is somewhere between six and nine, considering the end result.
thanks so much for this video. do you recommend this one or the saeco xelsis for the best milk foam? and do you know if can i use the Eletta Explore without replacing the water softener filter? its unavailable to buy in my country. i mean will it still working as long as i do the descaling or some message will pop up and leave me with a non working coffee machine?
Great review. Appreciate all the detail and nuances discussed. Was reading about the Dinamica power button popping off on some purchasers. I’m also seeing multiple reviews for Jura and Delonghi where people are having coffee makers bricked with little to no support, with some literally being ignored by OEM. Any thoughts? Just sensors and people not getting them clean in the right spots?
Sorry, I have not dealt with such issues, even with the Delonghi ECAM we have had for years at work. The main issue for us is just descaling. If you don't, the lines can get clogged. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Cheers Tom. I figure it’s isolated incidents and potential grounds or other debris knocking sensors out. Guess I just need to purchase and enjoy some good coffee!!
I bought my machine about a week ago from De’Longhi. On intensity 5 my grind only goes for 7 seconds. I called customer service and asked how this is possible. They said that it could have changed since they make modifications on products from time to time. That means my intensity is lower than this unit’s.
For which drink? It should work on the Doppio+, but it doesn't unfortunately work on all drinks. I think Cafe Crema only grinds 8s for me, at intensity of 5.
Hello love your video I’m def gonna buy the Eletta on Amazon Prime Day could you tell me where to get the fresh coffee you use please. Thanks a million
Nice machine & review. However Galaxus has a used Dinamica Plus for 500€ right now, and would come with a 24mo warranty - considering that one for the office...
Did you mention anything about the temperature of the macchiato? Have been looking for a new super auto but they never get the milk hot enough for me. I have an older saeco xelsis but it has a steam wand which I use instead of the carafe system, because the drinks were always lukewarm. That machine is 12 years old and after a good long life, needs to be replaced.
Great review. Which model makes the best coffee Eletta ECAM450.86.T or PrimaDonna Soul One Connected ECAM610.75.MB. I would like to choose the one that makes the best espresso. Please help me.
i thought about this. i have the model or do before. i have had it 10 years. the thing i do not like aboyt this new one is you canot froth your own milk. mine you can use the carafe or attach a steam wand.
Great review and am ordering one. Shame the coffee only ships within Germany or Austria. Any advice on online criteria for beans suitable for these machines? I don’t have access locally to roasteries or artisan shops so online is my best option (SW France).
Hey! For espresso, at what number do you recommend I put the grinder and not to force the espresso machine? As coffee I use delonghi 80% Arabica 20% Robusta. Thank you!
Hi Tom, great review! It pushed me to buy the Eletta. And it is indeed amazing machine! I have a question. The user manual says that for latte cold tech (iced drinks) only skimmed milk is fine. As I cannot find this milk in every shop, is 1.5 milk fine. Or not. What will happen if I use that milk? Thanks
Great video as always I set up my brothers elleta before one month I’ve also set the grinder to number 4 but never measured the amount I’m confused with something and I need your help In the doppio + option the machine grinds 15gramms .Get it that In espresso (+ option ) with intensity on 5 the machine also grinds 15gramms? Thanks in advance
I did a ton of tests, and found the 2x Espresso and Doppio+ to grind the longest (around 10 seconds). As for espresso, it was like this: Espresso Aroma 1: 5 seconds Espresso Aroma 2: 6 seconds Espresso Aroma 3: 7 seconds Espresso Aroma 4: 8 seconds Espresso Aroma 5: 9 seconds So, it ranged between 8 and 14 grams or so (about 1.5 grams per second of grinding time), based on those trials. Cheers!
Eletta Explore. I should do a comparison video. There's really no contest for me. Delonghi makes stronger espresso with bigger pucks, and milk foam is slightly better, too.
Hi. I bought the machine. Used for cold latte.. the coffee came out is hot, the milk is in room temperature so why it is called ICED LATTE. whats the difference from the hot cafe latte.. Is my machine not functioning well or was my expectation too high ( I thought the coffee will come out as cold)- hot milky drinks (latte etc..) and espresso is pretty decent .. taste good
Well, the iced drinks require ice to cool them down more. I think the only drink that comes out cool is the cold brew, which is at about 40 degrees C. The other drinks require the ice to cool them down further. The milky drinks should be about ambient temperature milk foam, if you use the white milk carafe. Cheers!
Thank you for the review!! My intention was to purchase a Sage (Breville) Barista Pro coffee machine. I know they're from different categories, but after seeing the review for this machine, I'm at a crossroads. Is there a significant difference in the quality of the coffee shot between these two machines that justifies the effort of making coffee manually? What is your recommendation for me? Thanks in advance!!
Well, I am not going to go out on a limb and say this is as good as, or better than a semi-automatic portafilter machine. But if you choose the maximum dosage (intensity), and watch your ratios, I think it's going to get most users pretty close, depending on how developed your palate is. And I think that is why these are so popular. A lot of people would prefer the convenience of a superauto, over a semi-auto. I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/wL3dPH2HrUw/w-d-xo.html
Are the to go,cold, hot, favorite buttons backlit? I just received my unit and they are really dark. Only the horizontal light turns on when selected. I think video cameras enhance the look but wanted to get your feedback. Thanks and great review!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner one of the TH-camrs did a demo (they are Canadian) between the Plus and the Explore. The Explore had much finer froth. Did you find that to be true? Perhaps the newer models are getting better?

Ive got my grinder on 4 but all my pucks are very sloppy and water in basket how can i fix it grinder was on 3 half when i first started it bit it was barely coming out so i changed it to 4 half though coffee has nice taste
Is tbis better than the dinamica plus
Hi Tom. It was really useful. Quick one. do you think the bar pressure is 9 for this machine?
That’s a good question. I should attach an animator in line one time and have a look. I’m guessing it is somewhere between six and nine, considering the end result.
thanks so much for this video. do you recommend this one or the saeco xelsis for the best milk foam? and do you know if can i use the Eletta Explore without replacing the water softener filter? its unavailable to buy in my country. i mean will it still working as long as i do the descaling or some message will pop up and leave me with a non working coffee machine?
How is the hopper size?? compared to others??
How is the water reservoir size?
Have you any thoughts on the kitchenaid KF8? I’m desperately trying to compare the two
Coffee Kev did a review of the KF8 just last weekend. Have you seen that?
Will it do a simple 8-10 oz cup coffee like the Magnifica Evo?
I bought my machine about a week ago from De’Longhi. On intensity 5 my grind only goes for 7 seconds. I called customer service and asked how this is possible. They said that it could have changed since they make modifications on products from time to time. That means my intensity is lower than this unit’s.
For which drink? It should work on the Doppio+, but it doesn't unfortunately work on all drinks. I think Cafe Crema only grinds 8s for me, at intensity of 5.
The doppio+ grinds for 8 seconds.
Can't go wrong for that price!
Nice review!
What about sugar? How can I add or even mix sugar to a cold brew cappuccino, for example?
You can add sugar afterwards, if you like.
Awesome review. Very helpful, thank you.
Would be awesome to see this compared to the new Kitchenaid KF7/KF8
Did you mention anything about the temperature of the macchiato? Have been looking for a new super auto but they never get the milk hot enough for me. I have an older saeco xelsis but it has a steam wand which I use instead of the carafe system, because the drinks were always lukewarm. That machine is 12 years old and after a good long life, needs to be replaced.
I wonder what would happen if we use whole milk to make cold Latte Crema?
It would be more convenient to use the same whole milk for hot drinks. 🤔
Great review. Which model makes the best coffee Eletta ECAM450.86.T or PrimaDonna Soul One Connected ECAM610.75.MB. I would like to choose the one that makes the best espresso. Please help me.
Sorry, but I haven't tried the Prima Donna...so I cannot comment on that. Cheers!
i thought about this. i have the model or do before. i have had it 10 years. the thing i do not like aboyt this new one is you canot froth your own milk. mine you can use the carafe or attach a steam wand.
But it seemed to have americano and coffe as options. How does it make coffee? I thought it would only do americanos for coffee
There is the cheaper Eletta Cappuccino, which seems similar to the Evo which am also considering
Do you ever pour your left over milk back into the carton or would you advise not to do that?
Nice review. Machine looks nice for a small office. However as you said Dinamica offers a lot of these options as well. #Eletta
Great review and am ordering one. Shame the coffee only ships within Germany or Austria. Any advice on online criteria for beans suitable for these machines? I don’t have access locally to roasteries or artisan shops so online is my best option (SW France).
If you choose Cappuccino Mix or Flat White recipes, the machine will pour espresso first and milk after. 21:05
Hey Tom, first of all thanks for the video! I'm able to get the saeco xelsis suprema for the same price as the eletta, would you go this route ?
Sorry, I don't know that machine...
@@TomsCoffeeCorner no worries, thanks for answering though!
Hey! For espresso, at what number do you recommend I put the grinder and not to force the espresso machine? As coffee I use delonghi 80% Arabica 20% Robusta. Thank you!
I generally run between 3-4 on mine, with fresh beans. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Tank you!
Thanks
@@vedranbileta8346 I don’t know why they say that. I use 3.8%. For me, the fatter, the better. It’s more creamy that way.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner oh, thank your for the fast response.
3.8! Wow. Well, then 1.5 should be fine :)
Great video as always
I set up my brothers elleta before one month I’ve also set the grinder to number 4 but never measured the amount
I’m confused with something and I need your help
In the doppio + option the machine grinds 15gramms .Get it that
In espresso (+ option ) with intensity on 5 the machine also grinds 15gramms?
Thanks in advance
I did a ton of tests, and found the 2x Espresso and Doppio+ to grind the longest (around 10 seconds).
As for espresso, it was like this:
Espresso Aroma 1: 5 seconds
Espresso Aroma 2: 6 seconds
Espresso Aroma 3: 7 seconds
Espresso Aroma 4: 8 seconds
Espresso Aroma 5: 9 seconds
So, it ranged between 8 and 14 grams or so (about 1.5 grams per second of grinding time), based on those trials. Cheers!
Hiya, im looking to buy a new Yeti travelmug. When you say the Large one, is that the 20 OZ or the 30 OZ?
Ty for the video :)
@@mattrasmussen4432 20 oz. I don’t think that the 32 ounce one would fit. Cheers!
Hi, Great review on the Delonghi Eletta Explore. Can you manually steam the milk or do you have to use the milk tank?
You have to use the milk tank.
i want a machine without plastic touching the milk or water does it exist?
so which one to choose? Eletta Explore or dinamica plus ?
I'd save the money and get the Dinamica Plus, honestly.
Awesome Review, Can you review and compare Saeco Xelsis Suprema 8899 aslo? nearly similar price.
Which one last longer and has a better and quality taste ?? 5400 Lattego or Eletta explore ?
Eletta Explore. I should do a comparison video. There's really no contest for me. Delonghi makes stronger espresso with bigger pucks, and milk foam is slightly better, too.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner what about durability ? How long does it last ?
Hi. I bought the machine. Used for cold latte.. the coffee came out is hot,
the milk is in room temperature so why it is called ICED LATTE. whats the difference from the hot cafe latte..
No, they are just pictures, not backlit.
So which De'longhi Superautomatic makes the best espresso and Capaccino drinks?
I think the Dinamica Plus would be my recommendation because it's a little cheaper, and makes the same drinks. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner one of the TH-camrs did a demo (they are Canadian) between the Plus and the Explore. The Explore had much finer froth. Did you find that to be true? Perhaps the newer models are getting better?
Hi and thank you for the video. Not sure if I missed in case you told us, but can you mention the coffee beans you used?
Beans used: Martermuehle Cioccolato :amzn.to/3WckYPW (affiliate link)
