Why NOT to become a DENTIST 😭

  • There are so many reasons why I love being a Dentist and an Orthodontist but there are also a lot of reasons why you shouldn't choose this profession.
You should not become a Dentist if you are not
    1. A people person
    2. Comfortable being in the spotlight and having to make tough decisions
    3. Comfortable with Debt
Make sure to subscribe for new videos weekly, or else you are doomed to have a crooked smile for the rest of your life! 😅

Not true.. I have seen introvert people more successful. They are good with people one on one, they dont need to be necessarily going to stage to talk. Infact it is an advantage for introvert they can make good connection in one on one.

    • @vergil5603
      @vergil5603 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I agree, personality is not static. I am an introvert but want to socialize, be the center of attention, and pretty much do the things he listed. Be relied on. Those are a law of power of R.G. I just realize it.

    • @dr.apollo4226

Being a people person and being an introvert are not mutually exclusive traits. Introverts can still create meaningful connections with people. I think you ought to be comfortable with small talk either way.

I'm about to graduate from dental school in Europe and not sure whether specialise in ortho or oral surgery. In my summer internships I always done oral and maxillofacial surgery so it really grew on me. Last summer I tried out a couple of ortho practices and it surprisingly was really amazing. Nice and calm work flow, no emergencies, clean work and pretty good compensation. Quite different from the surgical specs.

I had the same fear before starting my first semester of dental school. You go through multiple simulation labs where they teach you how to hold each instrument properly and you also have competency exams, where they evaluate your manual and operational skills. You go through extensive training to perfect your manual skills and essentially overcome that fear with all the practice and simulations you have to go through! Chase your dreams, don't let anything hold you back :)

I strongly encourage you to reach out to dentists in your community to try to get some job shadowing done! Not only is it an important and necessary part of your possible application, but it will also allow you to see what goes on in the daily operations of an office. It might even help you become more of a "people person". I am also considering the option of becoming an orthodontist.

How much would you say you had in student debt after all the schooling and training? What percentage would you say most banks would take out each month 🤔 ( for example: Say you have about 200,000 in student debt, and you make about 25,000 a month what amount of money would banks usually take out like 5,000 a month, 10,000 a month, etc?) Third question: What is an NPI certification? Thank you for the informational videos! I feel like you’ve greatly answered my questions fully😁 I’m just going into high school next year (2021) and I’m really set on being an orthodontist, any advice on that situation? Hey Jay most of your questions are answered in this video th-cam.com/video/BrVC6qqweHA/w-d-xo.html
As far as what to do in high school honestly I would just say try to be the best all around student possible. Get amazing grades, volunteer, play sports or something along those lines. As far as the exact amounts the bank takes out for loans it really depends on what you negotiate with your bank. It varies a ton but for $400 000 you can expect to have roughly 5-7k taken out a month.

DR.Nate i really hope that you answer my question which is can a student who was average in school become a dentist after having good score in college and university. Also i want to become a dentist it is my utmost desire. my parents says that i cannot be a dentist because the one who become a doctor or dentist is from another world and different. Just because i got an average score in 10th due to my health issue i can't write them bcz it will be too lengthy. My teacher left me saying that i am worse and i was in hospital before 2 weeks of exams and i prepared only in one week and got 368/505 i can't forget that moment my mother cried that you are not the topper type and average. You don't have what it takes to be a med student. Please tell me a genuine opinion

Of course you can. I know plenty of people who were average in high school and later became very successful dentists.

It’s my first year as a general dentist, I graduated last year. When I finished dental school I was 300,000 in debt and that is in Canada where postgraduate is a bit cheaper than USA. Therefore we are talking about a giant amount of debt, but honestly with the amount that dentist get paid, and trust me when I say dentist get paid even higher than what you read on Google. You should be able to pay all your debt in 7-9 years and still live a supper comfortably life.
