I think you most people just pay it off afterwards in like monthly payments so for the first few years it might be a little tougher since a portion of your salary would be going to your debts but after that I feel like it’s worth it and you can also pay portions of it during school/residency to help yourself out later on if you can

Hey I am a Sophomore undergrad student approaching pharmacy school in a 6 year program. How was the adjustment from perquisites to actual pharmacy school. Any help would be really appreciated!
Pharmacist's salaries are coming down or have been stagnant for over a decade. There is no pay gap. If you can't get your degree for less than $85K of student loans then it isn't worth it.
Are you sure that it costs so much? Which country are you from? I only pay 270 Euros for one semester. You cant be serious with 85000 dollars for school???? If this is true, this is insane, this would buy me a half of a house here.

A pharmacist in US starting salary is about $80,000 after 10 years of schooling. A US senator starting salary is $174,000 and can have a 4 year degree. Something is NOT right!
@@sparkleclap I think 80k comes from not getting full time hours in chain pharmacy. For example at Harris teeter only the pharmacy manager gets full time.
Great video. I loved it. I’d like make you a question. I graduated from pharmacy out of the US. What do you think is better, take the equivalency test or enrolled again for a Pharma D ? Thanks.
I'd highly suggest to try and do the equivalency test if possible. Pharmacy school in general is supposed to get a student equipped to pass the NAPLEX and the associated law exam. In addition, being a foreign graduate you will also have to pass the English language test (TOEFL). If you can do so with the education you have already obtained then you will save a lot of time and $. You can refer to the specific state board of pharmacy website in which you plan to reside to get the full eligibility and requirements information.
This is such a great video! thank you! I'm planning on moving to the US when I finish my schooling here in France. Given that I'm gonna be an international student, d o you think I'd still be able to "make it"? I understand that it's gonna be highly competitive but is it still possible in your opinion? I'd work anywhere, literally! 😂
yes 10000% you can make it and I know many international friends who have. it's competitive everywhere and even if you're from the US, so just do your best!!
No..... Short answer is no it is not. A majority of jobs for pharmacists is in the retail sector and they are litterally dying. This job will kill you with the current state of things in the industry.
Like you highlighted though, most people and pharmacists only see retail as an option, when that's just not the truth any longer. The industry of pharmacy is shifting and naturally, jobs in retail will decrease, but that doesn't mean a career in pharmacy isn't worth it anymore. I agree, retail is going down, but that's exactly my point. It will and should go down; automation hits every industry and pharmacy isn't any different. But in our modern times, we have so many opportunities as pharmacists that most people fail to see and identify. A pharmacist/PharmD no longer means only a retail pharmacy
@@FocusRx Like I'm still on the fence but won't it be horrible if it really is 70% retail and then it goes to automaton then everyone in retail tries to apply for an industry position where companies may try to hire like one (depending on the need but I don't know how industry works)
And I don’t think it will get better in the future. I am debating if my daughter should go to pharmacy school or not. BTW, I am a pharmacy specialist and I see how hard to find a job for the new graduates even with PGY 1 training.
@@qianyaoqiu I think it will get better especially for current generation. Baby Boomers are starting to retire so there will be many openings. There also are a good amount of opportunities. There’s much more to pharmacy than just retail
PCAT is the test you take to get into pharmacy school. It’s not required by most schools if u attended the 4 years of undergrad. NAPLEX is the board exam you take to get your pharmacist license
This seems to be out of date. Don’t be a pharmacist, you will likely end up in retail (absolutely awful), unless you think you can get into clinical rotations (extremely competitive, way more pharmacists then rotations). Retail pharmacists gets to leave there work when they go home? Not true. There are too many pharmacy students, it is too competitive. You will be lucky to even get a retail job at the minimum, and they are treated terribly with about 80k starting pay (unless you happen to be in the few high demand areas, be sure to look where they are). These poor students are being told this is still a good job, wasting years of their lives, 100k of student debt, just to work in a terrible environment. It will not become better until it is a pharmacists market again, if it ever does, and these videos don’t help. Talk to someone new to retail, if you are considering being a pharmacist. It’s likely where you will end up, and they can tell you how it really is today; and what it is looking like.
I’m already a pharmacy technician and I’m really looking into going back to school so I can become a Pharmacist but I’m 33yrs old and Idk if it’s such a great idea to start at this point.
I’m 28 and switching careers into the medical field, going back to school as a freshman next fall. A strong point someone told me was, “you’re going to be 45 at some point in your life, who do you want to be?” So I say go for it!
Is there anything that would make is a bad idea besides ur age? If not then its actually not a big of a deal go for it alot of ppl start when they are even in their 50s and in the end of the day age was never a problem with science and studies
Pre-pharmacy and pharmacy school is very much different than working in a pharmacy doing dispensing functions. You will have to be able to handle the math and science which is on the same level as medical school. The course work requires deep understanding and not just mere memorization like learning brand and generics names and learning pharmacy rules and procedures.
Hey I know I'm a bit late but I hope you reply this I just finished high school and I want to know where to study pharmacy is it in the UK or in the US I want to also know if physics is a major course
Physics isn't a major course -- I had to take one physics course in my first two years (out of my 6-year program). I think where you go to school should reflect where you'd like to live and work in the future -- both the UK and US are great options (I'm of course more well-versed in the US).

MTM in retail is a joke. The compensation for it does not justify the time it takes and corporate does not give you enough time to do it properly as you are always grossly understaffed. A lot of it is more for the benefit of the insurance company rather than the patient. I can't do MTM properly if I'm stuck at the register and drive-thru and having to do a million ingratiating chit chat calls to see if Johnny's ear ache is better.

This is the rant of someone trying to convince themselves they made the right decision 🤣😂🤣. How is a con, “you always have to be at your best”?? 1) Take your licensing exams ASAP. Don’t wait, doesn’t matter what career choice you take. You’d be a fool not to. 2) She also lost me at, “pay gap” since pharmacy is overwhelmingly female dominated and I’d love for her to show any stats on this. 3) The growth outlook for the next 5-10 years is NEGATIVE (3% to 5%) and is being overloaded by low talent new grads churned out by diploma mills. CA has 13+ schools alone. 13+! Talent pool dilution to the max!!! 4) Lowered standards for schools and many students require multiple attempts to take the board exams and pass them, it’s sad. Pick a top school, and if you don’t get in don’t settle. 5) don’t do anything in healthcare because it may have good pay. That’s the WORST reason to go into a career. This is terrible advice.

In North Carolina you can not hold yourself out as a pharmacist without a license. Merely having a degree in pharmacy does not make you a pharmacist. You have to prove yourself first by passing the NAPLEX. I know of a few PharmD's from an accelerated degree program (Appalachian School of Pharmacy) that were never able to pass the NAPLEX after several tries. They have the degree, but I would hardly call them a pharmacist.
@@Kqmren ok let’s get to it ! First why do you want to be a pharmacist? Is it money or are you truly interested in the field ? Next are your parents rich or will you need loans ? Third have you worked in pharmacy yet ? Retail is awful for a million reasons, if you want i can elaborate on that ! If you’re stuck with loans and a job you hate you’re life will be a trap. Everyone wants clinical jobs but they are rare and hospital is usually filled with introverted catty staff and miserable people! Ask more and j can tell you ! If you’re doing it for money trust me not worth it
FDA and national regulations are taught, but specific state regulations are only taught for the state you go to school in. I think you most people just pay it off afterwards in like monthly payments so for the first few years it might be a little tougher since a portion of your salary would be going to your debts but after that I feel like it’s worth it and you can also pay portions of it during school/residency to help yourself out later on if you can
I want to be an industrial pharmacist because is includes many things I'm passionate about ie chemistry/science and the state I live in has a high pay for pharmacist and a good school so I don't have to leave the state
Keep up the great work. Ive been in the game for over 10 years and have done both Retail and Clinical. At times you need to get your feet wet to truly realize which specialty is a better fit for you.
What was the better fit for you?
Which one did you like more?
that was inspiring for me as a pharmacy student
As someone who works in healthcare, i would just go to med school or PA school. More bang for your buck with med school or same thing but less work and debt with PA school.

my plan is to become a pharmacist but always worried that I'm not to great with math its not my strong point I have a good memorie and a easy time learning chemistry but math is where I fall short aloth I'm in the 11th grade doing algebra 2 and worried that I wouldn't be able to keep my Gpa high enough to get into pharm school
Me and chemistry are like water and oil. I might as well learn to coexist together.
Don’t worry about it, all you have to do is get through calculus 1 and your good. For the prequistes at least
i'm a graduate from high-school and i have the chance to study pharmacy for 5 years in english, i am still doubting it because i might have to move away from my family, my other option is software engineering in the university that's next to me
This was very informative and I will be considering these factors when pursuing this career. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback and goodluck!!

Too many pharmacy school. Very saturated. It’s hard to find a decent job now.
@@drenchmeinlavenderyepp
whats the difference between NAPLEX and PCAT?
When do not pharmacy students study for the naplex or mpje?
I am 27 and started pharmacy in Europe, I am one of the older students but I dont care, do it for yourself.
I’m 32! And I’m doing it!
Hey I know I'm a bit late but I hope you reply this
I just finished high school and I want to know where to study pharmacy is it in the UK or in the US
I want to also know if physics is a major course
Physics isn't a major course -- I had to take one physics course in my first two years (out of my 6-year program). I think where you go to school should reflect where you'd like to live and work in the future -- both the UK and US are great options (I'm of course more well-versed in the US).

Hi Doc, Im studying a Pharma Tech right now, and Im planning to get an Associate's degree of pharmacy. What tips will you give me and are they going to credit my subjects in pharma tech when I enroll in associate's degree ?

its my first year in pharmacy school, could you tell me more about MTM? I want to start a family is there a job that I could work remotely?
MTM in retail is a joke. The compensation for it does not justify the time it takes and corporate does not give you enough time to do it properly as you are always grossly understaffed. A lot of it is more for the benefit of the insurance company rather than the patient. I can't do MTM properly if I'm stuck at the register and drive-thru and having to do a million ingratiating chit chat calls to see if Johnny's ear ache is better.
Can you move out of retail to pharmaceutical industry ?
1000000% yes!!! My friends over at The Happy PharmD (bit.ly/3ojAjLD) can directly and personally help you move from retail/clinical to pharma, so if you're interested check them out.

I haven't taken my NAPLEX, so I'm not a board-certified pharmacist, but I don't work as that or advertise myself as that. I am a PharmD/pharmacist :)
You sound so uneducated Brad. The moment you get your PharmD degree you are a pharmacist, irrespective of whether you're licensed or not.

It seems like pharmacists learn nothing about regulations in school. Either that or they just forget
FDA and national regulations are taught, but specific state regulations are only taught for the state you go to school in. Regardless, regulations are something that continuously change so healthcare professionals (not just pharmacists) have to stay on top of it every year regardless, but I'm unclear on the purpose of your comment?
