Arma 3 Beginners Guide: How To Use The Range Finder To Find Distance & Zero Sniper Scope Sights

Do you happen to know the maximum range you can 'laze' a target with the laser/rangefinder?
A friend got me into Arma 3 recently and I can't seem to find that into anywhere.
