Lots of aggro with that brake system, Mike.
Looks like you picked a heck of a week to give up drink! 😉😆

That is some black looking fluid!
    You sure it’s not treacle?

Rather than using a paintbrush just work the syringe back and forth to get the last bits of muck out of the fluid reservoir, acts like a mini jet wash to blast the muck out 👍

There’s not another brake load proportioning valve operated by weight on the rear axle to prevent it locking up when hard braking in unloaded condition?

I think we all expected it to be an empty Jameson’s bottle!

I would change my hydraulic fluids every year . As you need two people to bleed the fluids using the manual method , I bought one of those Gunson Easibleed tools that use your spare tyre pressure to push fluid through without someone pushing the pedals . Excellent piece of kit and there are various other similar devices . Watch out though with the Gunson one though as various temporary master cylinder caps with air pipes attached as supplied to fit a variety of master cylinder sizes and screw down threads . My Robin Reliant , plastic pig , was the first of my lovely collection of vehicles I tried the tool on . Well I mistook the choice of caps and when I applied tyre pressure the cap blew off and fluid went at least three yards in every direction ! Mistake made the Easibleed became my go to method . It is easier , less frustrating and uses less fluid ..... though we aught to bin any left over new fluid anyway as it soaks up water in storage once opened .
I seem to recall you advised that transmission fluid can be used for the clutch hydraulics , which I have never tried , but think is a great idea .

The ATF was a good idea but not easy to bleed.
I usually bleed by gravity which put me on the road of finding out the valve was an issue. Funny that people change oil religiously but neglect the brake fluid.
Been there and done that with the 'not so easy bleed'!

Mike did Landrover put those valves in to stop the rear wheels locking? If so is the a better aftermarket valve that could be adjusted?

When fitting rear discs, they needed to reduce the pressure to stop them locking under severe braking as the back is usually lighter. Some manufactures had a valve linked from the chassis to the axle to do the same thing.
But when it comes to brakes, it is wise to stick with the manufacture's choice - in this case a new valve is needed

How about reverse bleeding, using that very syringe? More effective in some tricky systems, and it’s pushing any crap upwards out of the system where it can be sucked out of the reservoir! Just an idea?

It could work, but it was rusty inside

I use this quite often to clean out brake and clutch pipes. Works a treat as long as you're steady away😊

Interested in how easy it is to get that valve out. I need to replace mine, as it has a leak.

It is a bitch! The 300Tdi has the air cleaner dump valve/water drain in front of it -access it limited

It's what is known as "opening a can of worms" Mike.
Only braking on front wheels must have been a bit dicey.

I change brake fluid every 2 years as per book. I don't play with brakes anymore, leave it to a trusted one.

I had that exact same problem in my ninety. Check the proportioning valve. Mine was clogged and needed to be flushed out.

I striped it, and it was rusty - you have to destroy them to get into them and no parts are available

@@BritannicaRestorationstell me about. I looked for even a used one worldwide. I ended up taking it to this really good garage and they ended up cleaning it for me. I don’t even know how they did it but they did say it was full of junk and they flushed it out. I may have to ask him, but it works fine now, thankfully.

You had such a proportional valve on your Sunday sales , because you said , they never get faulty
