    That space battle is one of my favorite chapter in the whole book series, it's from Bobbie's POV and the way she comes up with the plan to take them down by doing the 360 no scope rail gun shot and getting them to dodge into a barrage of PDC that was fired entire minutes before the rail gun ( rail gun slugs go really really fast ) all while distracting them with torpedoes was amazing, quick maths

    • @operatorlink
      @operatorlink 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      i think the torpedoes was used to blind their sensors, they detonated early. Holden used the same moves when he was trying to save the Razorback from the UNN ship. But yea the railgun was used to force them to dodge into PDC shots.

    14:32 "He's gonna blame Filip so hard..."
    That's what I love about this show! The characters are so well written that we know their personalities and we know exactly how they're going to react to a given situation.

    • @biocapsule7311
      @biocapsule7311 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@IcyTorment But that is his character. He is even worst in the book, mainly because it is from the perspective of people who knows who knows how he is liked. He is someone who likes to pretend he has great plans but really made either took credit for other people's work or made it up as he goes along. Saying his character is flat is like saying Trump or Boris Johnson are flat character. You see the obvious narcissistic personality and can't understand how they have so many followers. So Marco Inaro is a realistic character.

    Prax and Anna both played pretty significant roles, in book 6 of the series, but I'll bet we don't see much more of them in Season 6.
    The writers and producers said they would've been able to do more with those two characters, if Amazon had provided funding for two or four more episodes.
    In the book, Anna's storyline shows us how terrible life is, on Earth, right now.
    Meanwhile, Prax applies the courage and compassion he learned on the Roci to the problem of food supply -- and almost gets caught.
    And, yeah. The space battle, in this episode, totally rocked. :)

    Marco's just a narcissist. He doesn't even have the stamina to be a control freak. He is controlling of Filip when it suits him, but he's also emotionally abandoning him *all the time.* He swings from blaming Filip for everything to just ignoring him. He gets bored so easily that even the project of molding and abusing his only son can't hold his attention for very long.

    In the book, the whole Prax story was fully explored rather than it being like a Greek tragedy where everything happens off stage. I suspect that because they only had 6 episodes in the season they decided to have Prax mention what happened in terms of the person in his lab getting shot rather than showing it as a subplot and fully vetted.

    The space battle and Filip laying into Marco were of course the standout scenes. But I was glad to see you guys also mention some of Marco's lines from this episode too. Keon Alexander had a couple of my favorite line readings from the whole show here. The sinister way he drew out the word "Rocinante" and then later "James Holden" were just fantastic. I feel like it added so much to those scenes and really gives him that larger-than-life villain persona which is really befitting for a (hopefully temporarily) final antagonist.

    Holden let the Pella go probably because he just doesn't have the heart to kill Naomi's son especially she is already suffering from PTSD. Killing Marco probably won't end the war, the belt is riled up, killing him would just radicalize more belters. Chances are without such a charismatic figure like Macro, it would likely break into different warlords.

    • @Arrynek01
      @Arrynek01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Killing Marco would have made the conflict shorter. If they splinter, easier job for Earth and Mars to win.
      Agree on the rest, though.

    • @garethlawton5278
      @garethlawton5278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Letting your enemies fight it out between themselves and reduce their numbers is a far better scenario than fighting a united force in practically any situation. The right play was to destroy the Pella when it refused to surrender. There is no logic in letting that ship go, it was solely down to his care for Naomi. It was a ship full of mass murderers, her son included amongst them. Letting them go risks millions more lives.
      Killing Marco does not amount to radicalization. Most of the belt know he abandoned and will now know he rigged his own people to blow up as a trap for the inners, his system wide support is dwindling. Besides, the belt has already been radicalized, they're at war. Killing the rival leader at war is the goal, Bobby knows it well enough, she is soldier through and through. Holden's heart is what stopped his military career and is now ultimately the reason Marco is alive.

    • @marcc1830
      @marcc1830 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garethlawton5278 I don't know that would be the case for an organized conventional force fighting guerilla factions. However you may have a point in nudging them to fight among themselves and have a manageable chaos. Problem in this case is Marco is well loved by the more militant belters. They will still "spare some time" for Earth and Mars who killed their beloved leader. Further without Marco, there is the problem of a strong third party like the Laconian or heck maybe even Mars, stepping in to organize / manipulate them to fight a proxy war for them. On top of that the core of the conflict did not go away, the Sol system resources just got reduced by a lot to support way too many people. Meanwhile the Laconian held the ring gate station either by proxy (now) or themselves.

    • @toms169

    The station had a bunch of smaller explosions, but more to the ship docks and water and air tanks. Even the ships in the port while moving around loosely, didn't seem damaged by the explosions. If you really want a cameo in The Expanse, you have to go back to season 1. OK so with the kid dying, pay attention to what was happening before that. She found the birds. One of them randomly died. She sent the drone, it got hit with something and randomly malfunctioned. Later she's away from her brother, and he randomly gets shot. Someone or something doesn't want her out in that cove. But also, I think they're going to use the kittybutts to heal her brother though.

    i think holden disarming was the reference to season 1 ep 1 it was the same situation and he saw cant blow and his lover die and he couldn't do anything but he didn't want Naomi to experience that.

    Let me try this again without spoilers...
    The books are written as a series of trilogies, so stopping at the end of book six makes sense. It's a little like The Expanse's Return of the Jedi - satisfying enough in it's own right, but with enough story threads available to continue if there's the money/will to do so.

    Holden always wants to do the right thing; and in this episode i think he didn't destroy The Pella because they weren't a threat at that moment and he didn't want to be judge jury and executioner; him destroying that other ship before was because there is no cure for the protomolecule. I think Inaros hates Holden because he's the hero Marco would like to be but can't.

    I stand by calling it a cameo. TV shows work on a season by season basis. They may have been featured characters in previous seasons, but this season they are nothing more than bit parts with little screen time. Thus, a cameo roll.

    And the James Webb Space Telescope is gonna revolutionize the way we learn and see in space. It’s going to be positioned in a spot on the other side of our moon where the gravity of the moon and the earth won’t affect it. Not to mention it’s about 100 times more powerful than Hubble. What’s funny is they started designing it 24 years ago and todays it’s cutting edge tech. Either way we should see back to the beginning!

    I got the impression that the proto molecule was not created by the makers of the ring gates "The Builders" and that the makers of the proto molecule were destroyed by The Builders. And the "Dog" is Builder technology not proto molecule technology.
    As to Philip murdering millions, well the plan was marcos, not Philips all the OPA that are with Marcos, and took part in executing Marcos plan, could also be accused of murdering millions. Philip could come under the category of "Only following orders" with the caveat, that the orders are coming from his father.

    Would a single missile have finished off the Pella? Fillip and Marco probably would have survived to get to a lifeboat, you know Marco wouldn't believe in a Captain going down with their ship.
