These gentlemen are some of the strongest, most uniformly playing tenor drivers I have seen in my life. Really awesome technique & execution gentlemen. Forge the Thunderbolt!
@@SS2Balls the pinstripes are typically brighter and more articulate, which you want on drums 1 & 2 and the spock as you’ll probably have more fast rolls and rimshots you want to cut through the ensemble. The coated heads allow for a more dark, warm timbre so the big hits on 3 and 4 sing more. And blend with the basses/low brass. There’s a common misconception that you have to have the same heads on all drums, but Collin, being a beast quad player, understands that you should match the heads to the tonality you want on the different drums. 🤘
@@SEAJustinDrum I missed that!! I’ll have to go back and find some videos. I don’t think we ever did it on a line I marched, but I think it sounds amazing!
@@markoutlaw5061 I'm doing it this fall with a line I teach on Pearl drums. It really is the best of both worlds. I had been an Evans users for years but I switched to Remo and wanted more warmth out of my tenors and used Suede Emperors across the drums last year. I missed the articulation of the EC2 so I went back to pinstripes on my 8-10-12 and kept the Suedes on the 13-14 with a smooth white emperor on my 6".
It's wild that on June 28th, the worst part about that opening lick was the double stops. Couple other little diddles here and there, but the sound quality and clarity coupled with the demand is absolutely unreal for early tour.

Coated heads on 3 & 4 is just such a pro move. Those drums sound gorgeous 🤤
what does it do in comparison to the non coated?

We did this at cascades in 2012-15ish and so many people shit on it. Then Boston does it and it is cool. lolololol. But seriously it sounds so good.
