Man I remember at 8:00 pm Saturday night, Hercules would come on and after that Xena. Memories.
That's right. First it was at 4pm or 3pm then it was switched to 8 pm
The switch from 4-6 to 8-10 was in 1998. In 1999 they flipped the two shows marking the season premieres and Hercules's last 8 episodes to boot. Also they did 5-7 for 1998-99 then when the flip happened they moved the two shows to 10 pm-Midnight so that time both Sat and Sun these two were aired in Primetime.
And Friday nights

I mean she did fight Ares to a stand still and just look how far she just send that guy (is that Iolaus? god it has been decades since i watched Xena/Hercules!) flying with a kick! @4c00h In the 90's, the economy was at an all time high, inflation was nonexistent the likes of which we have never been able to reach since. TV shows, both adult and kid shows were at their creative best, humorous, intelligent, clever with the best casting/actors you could have in hollywood. Society was also politically incorrect and allowed for people of different thoughts, imaginations and beliefs to co exist and deal with each other without threat of cancelation, being ostracized from society and even blacklisted by family, friends or potential soulmates. Cancel culture wasn't a thing. Food was at its best as well, with the ingredients being far more pure and not the watered down trash we have now, just so corporations could save an extra buck. Im still mad Razzle Dazzle Rice Krispes cereal was something that was lost to the 90's era, despite it being the most sweetest and tastiest cereal I have ever had in my childhood, nothing comes close.

In the real reality, where we have a healthy and fit Lucy Lawless and Kevin Sorbo, who had had several serious health problems, I’d give the win to the healthy Lawless.

Depends on the version. TV Buffy probably stands little to no chance. Comic Buffy curb stomps with little effort. She went way beyond the series and was even able to fly, as a 'Slayer' she has more feats and powers than Xena ever performed.

@@aryaarya2724 Xena was mortal, it was never stated she was anything other than that, it was implied Ares was her father, but that was scrapped for the obvious incestuous undertones. Xena was skilled, but there's no way she could battle gods on near equal footings, it's absurd. She battled Archangels, demons, Odin, Ares, Hercules and many other gods. It would have made more sense if she was a demigod, but she's basically Batman of that universe.

It most certainly was not the Olympian gods, as why would they allow a dangerous, skilled warrior have a weapon that can kill them, like she did to Kal the God of war of Italia, a stand in for Mars. What gods would make such a weapon?
@@Callumdevan17 She always had these powers. Because she stolen her first Chakram from the Gods (Chakram of darkness). And she got her powers and strenth from that chakram. Her new chakram in season 5 is fusion of Chakram of darkness and chakram of light. Chakram was not created by Greek Gods.

Watching this now in September of 2024, I can't believe I used to think this show was good. 😄
Well it certainly wasnt groundbreaking television by any means and watching it as an adult instead of being a 9-14 year old is a different experience entirely. However, for a 90's fantasy based tv show with only a moderate budget that was for kids and young teens it was pretty good compared to other attempts at fantasy based shows before it. Also the decade before it (80's) was the golden age of sword and sorcery movies so they were worried that people were burnt out on it. This show helped keep that genre alive with audiences so it couldnt have been that bad back in the day for what it was. It just doesnt hold up to todays standard. TV has become a much bigger fish in the pond these days. Pretty much almost up there with theatre movies. They get big name actors for shows now and get massive budgets.

@@ignited_phoenix8380 power struggle, the sets were near by and they felt like they were competing against the other one. In years following the show Kevin Sorbo apparently claimed that Lucy Lawless slept her way into the role.
Honestly I think that everyone always compared the shows to each other. Not only the fans but also executives. You do not want to me in the room when they are discussing numbers and your numbers come out smaller than your coworkers. I have seen it turn workplace toxic.

I never understood how characters like Xena or Iolaus could keep up with a literal Demigod like Hercules.
Ok...my opinion. The reason Xena can keep up with Hercules as a mortal is because Ares trained her. In the episode where he first shows up in person it detailed that Ares has taught Xena to use her rage/inner fire to tap in to strength akin to the gods.
Varia...Callisto...also were taught by him and on episodes showcased what his teachings gave them, with Varia outright beating Gabrielle to a bloody pulp and almost taking down Xena herself. Callisto's madness is the only thing that hinders her but has gone toe to toe with Hercules too. There's of course the it depends on the plot and writters too angle still. Lol
The same reason why luthor can attack superman and not be reduced to scattered red tinted atoms. Because he holds back. A lot.
@@santanicopandemos938 Honestly, so what? Being trained by a god doesnt grant you god powers. It was all for entertainment and TV Herc was a literal chump compared to his actual character. The actual Hercules from Lore would CURB STOMP Xena. Easily. Like she wouldnt even be able to lay a scratch on him easy. He could flick her and launch her off the planet, easy.
Iolaus is a regular mortal. He's a good fighter but would not really be a challenge to Hercules. Xena, on the other hand, actually has supermortal abilities. It's never completely clear why she has them, but she was written that way. Look at the way Herc's cousin goes flying when she kicks him. And on her own show, she goes up against gods, monsters, etc. So she can actually challenge Hercules.
@@santanicopandemos938 Interesting comment. Not sure if simply being angry would give one god-like strength, though. However, Xena already had supermortal strength-- it's one of her abilities. It seems Ares simply helped bring it out by triggering her rage in "The Reckoning." As for why Callisto and Varia could challenge Xena? One theory I heard is that Ares secretly gave Callisto and Varia the extra strength needed to fight Xena, perhaps as a way to test Xena.

@@davidedwards1569 I watched then when they were originally on. I remember Hercules was part of a Sunday afternoon pack of shows called “the action pack” when it first came on. There were two other shows, Vanishing son” and “tech Wars” too.
I remember Xena came on a few years later.
It’s been FOREVER since I’ve seen them.
I also remember having a crush on Gabrielle too. I was like 16 lol.
@@davidedwards1569 Hercules from the show is a chump compared to the actual mythos of Hercules. The actual version would explode Xena in a single hit. He took over for atlas at one point who held up the earth, which was metaphorically the universe at that point in time as folks thought it was all of creation mistakenly. Even given everything she did in the series the actual Hercules would not even be hurt by Xena at all. He would laugh off her attacks then punch her off of the planet. But yea TV Herc was a chump, she could probably defeat him.

Her strikes aren't doing any damage though. He can take a lot more hits than her, and enhanced reflexes are one of his godlike powers.
Her hits aren't drawing any blood, but they are strong enough to keep knocking him back and make him grunt in pain. When she does the flip kick maneuver, she actually takes him down.
Xena has enhanced reflexes, too. She can catch arrows like Herc.
He probably is supposed to be more durable here, being the son of Zeus. But on her own show, Xena develops a durability that is extraordinary for a mortal and may even rival that of Herc's in some instances. Even in this episode she survived the gauntlet, and no mortal has ever survived it.

Xena is not in Hercules' league. He's a demigod she's a mortal human. In reality he'd literally explode her in one hit. Hercules took over for atlas who held up the earth, which was actually the theoretical universe. Xena has not a single chance against that. 0, nada, none. Made for great TV though. And I liked Xena but against Herc she would literally die in one hit.
@@picallo1 Not true. On her own show, the writers did not make Xena inferior to Hercules. She is not just a regular mortal. She has supermortal strength, speed, agility, and durability. She has gone toe to toe with gods, other demigods, armies, monsters, etc. By the end of her show, I see Herc and Xena as close equals.
Also, in the last episode of Hercules (Full Circle), Hercules briefly supports a falling pillar. But he never actually supports Olympus itself. You may be thinking of a different version of Hercules than the one from HTLJ.

It is. Gabrielle was introduced in the first episode of Xena: Warrior Princess. This is from an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. It was her second appearances on the show. Xena hadn’t yet been redeemed and is still “evil” here.
Hercules holds back in every fight including this one. He still wants to correct a person and not kill him. If he fought at full strength, it would be in one blow. Xena >= Callisto. . Hercules easily defeated the goddess Callisto.

This fight was some BS. As skilled a fighter as Xena was, she was still 100% HUMAN. Hercules, however, was half human, half god, and had the strength of TEN men. No punch or kick from Xena should've been able to even phase him.
