UPDATE: In the 1.0 readme: " Added Sonic Radio DJ speech." There you have it, folks! Thank you, Stern!

Can you make a new review ? :)

I don’t think the conclusion changes, it was already a great game before the update! I’m a bit sad I don’t have the game any longer to be able to play it with the update, but certainly I will play it somewhere else sooner or later and can post my thoughts then.

Never was a fan of the band as well, but I liked the “invasion of martians” theme it went with. However, the way Stern stripped the Pro version down to nothing and still kept the high price was the deciding factor in me not wanting to purchase the pin. Stern should have AT LEAST put in the UFO toy in all versions of the game besides that cheap plastic piece. They did the same thing to GZ where they should have put the collapsing building in all versions. If Stern made Aerosmith today, they would have taken out the Jackie toy box out of the pro and replaced it with a stock plastic piece with a magnet in front of him. Stern, you have to do better than this! Great video BTW and thanks for posting.

Thanks! Yes, the 3d sculpted alien on the Prem/LE (that bobbles too!) looks WAY better than flat plastic on the Pro. That said, at least that part of the game shoots the same. This isn't me, but some folks don't like upper playfields - for those folks, the Pro is probably the better buy.

I like some of the call outs , and they added some here and there. Love the voices and the city call outs. But I can see some things missing. Not frenzy is awesome. Love the Overdrive save call out. The band is one of the greatest Bands ever to go with sound. Plenty of hit songs. Anyhow. I love this pinball. Great review.

I would not at all be surprised if new code was coming very soon, and am betting they will have a bunch of additional callouts - with the announcement of new accessories next week, we'll probably see a topper, and with that, a code update! A great game will only get better. But for now, I could only review what I played. Thanks for watching!

New subscriber here. Watched your vid on Led Zeppelin. How long did that one last in your collection and what are your thoughts of the last-ability on that one compared to foo fighters and/or other pins?

Welcome and thanks for watching! Had LZ a couple years. It gets enough mention in the comments that I plan to do a review of it too where I'll cover that, so stay tuned!

Video released on March 10th, the 1.0 code you keep referencing was out on March 12th, just after the accessories announcement. The 1.0 code does indeed include the additional callouts, which are key in understanding the game. However, for some reason they aren't recorded in the same robot voice exactly, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. There are also new sound effects for a few of the shots and combos, which made the game seem pretty new.
Stern also added a new song to the game, which might be a first? There's music licensing involved with these band-based machines, so it's probably pretty rare to just add new music after the initial agreement was signed.
There are also new heads-up-callouts on the edges of the screen that really helped guide the play through some of the more obscure rules. Also experienced a new mode I've never seen before that locked my flippers and seemed to give some instructions on the screen before re-launching the ball. The only bad thing about this is that most of the reviews before 1.0 code are sort of pointless as far as overall gameplay now. I rated this machine high, but would actually put it higher after 1.0.

I'm hugely disappointed I didn't get to experience the 1.0 code in my time with the game, and include it in my review! Thanks much for chiming in on the improvements, that does sound pretty great. I have no doubt on 1.0 my review would have be thumbs up across the board. Even before that though, it was already clearly a great game, so the conclusion itself doesn't change.

@@abpinball Foo Fighters is in my top 10 pins of all time. It does keep me coming back for another game. I'm not even that good at pinball, and maybe that's why I like it so much. For the most part I do enjoy the Foo Fighters music, however like any music pin, the 20-or-so songs can start to overplay their welcome. I can entirely understand that if someone didn't care for the music of any particular artist then the corresponding game wouldn't justify the floor space in the collection. For instance I think Elton John the pinball machine is easily the best ever from Jersey Jack, and one of the best games released last year, if not THE best in 2023. Shoots smooth, is easy to understand, has some nice moments and piano-sound-effects. The light spectacle is unmatched, the piano lock and LED screen array curving along the edge of the piano really add to the immersion. However I'm not a huge fan of the music in the pinball machine, so it's difficult to justify the price. Also, I think we are stuck with the same song for the entire playthrough, and unlike Foo Fighters couldn't change the tune at the start of every ball. No denying Elton John is the closest a pin has ever come to a concert. Wonder what the comparative power draw is given that it is lousy with wonderfully coordinated LED light shows. Elton John makes Stern Expression Lighting look like a bit of a joke. They had to integrate that light show design very early on in the initial layout. Hopefully all 1200 to 1500 LEDs in each Elton John don't become a support liability a decade from now. I'll let operators maintain them for me.

I am worried I would get sick of the music. I don't hate or love foo fighters. I would have to put a ton of time on it an arcade to make sure I don't get sick of it. It would be nice if there was a spotify option to load in alternative tracks.

    • @abpinball
      @abpinball  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Totally valid concern! I'd say at least with a game like this you can choose your track at the start of the game though? Lots of games have no music choice whatsoever and you're hearing the same thing every single game. With that said, starting a city mode WILL play the corresponding song for the city you choose, so yes, you will probably hear those songs quite a bit. Thanks for watching!

I've been addicted to this one since it came out. I think it's for sure my favorite layout so far, which is insane for Jack's first cornerstone.
PS: you were talking about getting the code to 1.0, but at least foo got it's wizard mode reasonably fast! Bond is still waiting....

Awesome. Let’s see what Stern does with this one in 1.0, though, I suspect we will find out very soon! Thanks for watching!

Gotta disagree about lighting. Rush is way overlit, so that nothing stands out. And Led Zeppelin is, hands down, the ugliest new Stern game I've ever seen. I wouldn't own the game if it was given to me for free.
Regarding FF, my biggest dislike is the lower playfield. It is a drain fest, and one must constantly try to get out of it to avoid disaster. Other games are more open, and thus handle this much better. FF feels like a cage match (lower area) that you struggle to survive. Also, as to theme, FF did great here. Music is of course great. I can appreciate that calls out should be more informative -- there seems to be a long standing tradition of starving users for useful feedback (so that coin op'ers can make bank).

The cabinet and translite on Led Zeppelin was a big shame for sure, but I think the playfield artwork looks nice and the expression lighting was very very well matched to the songs. You could almost tell which song you’re in from the expression lights alone! That’s definitely not true of Foo, IMO. Anyway thanks for watching!

Sounds like I need to make a review video of Led Zeppelin, though 😅
