Erratum: - Barracora is incorrectly labeled Barracuda in the sales graph - The original game's ramp is opaque black - clear red is also an aftermarket modification
That’s awesome! I think this game was a gateway to pinball for MANY people - legendary designer pat lawlor is on record saying this very game was his gateway to pinball!
High Speed was what got me hooked on pinball at 14 and why I own 9 machines now excluding my Strike Master puck bowler! (Cyclone, High Speed, Funhouse, Pinbot, Bride of Pinbot, Whirlwind, Addams, Cactus Canyon and Godzilla!) This game was so fantastic on so many levels. I love how when you run the red light, everyone in the room starts moseying over to watch you get away from the cops. One of Steve Ritchie's crowing jewel achievements if you ask me and we all know there was little question this one particular title really did save the day!
Nice collection! Funhouse is one of my favorites and I hope to feature it on the channel sometime next year... but I have other projects to get to first! As for High Speed, well, agree with you - a literal game changer!
Nice video! I do exactly what you did on 20:17 haha - hold a pinball on a flipper and listen to the jackpot theme. That's my favorite part of the whole game is listening to that theme.
Ok Buddy.. Pull over! Great review for some nostalgia on this excellent pin from the era. That flashing red light when in pursuit caught the attention of arcade goers that something was happening..... brilliant idea .. was that a first maybe? Also some or most of the voices were from Steve Ritchie like most of his games.... Having owned Flash, Gorgar and Black Knight I was mysteriously drawn to his designs without knowing it till later in life. High Speed II was a great follow-up as well and got to play a few of those at the GSPB event this weekend for old time sake... Don't recall seeing this original High Speed at the event but might have missed it. Keep up the awesome video work.
I almost wanted to mention the sequel in my video - the person who lent me high speed has the sequel in his collection as well! But the video was already pretty full of other facts on the game, so the story of high speed 2 will have to wait until another video! Thanks for watching!
Ha, I didn't realize that is a mod! Search "high speed pinball highway sign mod" and you should be able to find it - appears to be made by a company called NP Labs? Not positive but looks the same as the one in the game featured in my video (which was borrowed from a friend, not my own game). Good luck!
Very very good video! Looks like you got a new playfield? got this game for a few years and put a lot of work in it. maybe would buy it again if i got this in such a good condition :) The right orbit shot doesnt always work by you, maybe correct the metal lanes? also the multiball plunge should always go into the locks, maybe you have to look at to align those lanes. Next Pin: f14!? :)
Thanks for the nice compliments! Yes, good eye with the right orbit - it's not perfect on this game, and so is the plunge. It's not my game and I didn't have it long enough to try to tweak it, but it does appear to be a side effect of the playfield swap - tricky to get it just right!! But it sure is a beautiful copy of the game, the nicest I have ever seen.
@@abpinball I'm 52 and High Speed is what got me interested in pinball and why I collect them today. My High Speed was restored sparing no expense - new stencils, powder coated side rails, lockdown bar, hardtop (no more repro playfields were available) as well as red and blue alternating LED displays. It will be the last machine to ever leave my gameroom. What a masterpiece!
Excellent review! Lots of useful info, great camera work. Question about the rules: can you score Freeway value coming over the rollover from the opposite side? For example right freeway orbit is lit and you shoot left orbit entrance that loops all the way around? Thanks.
I had only borrowed the game and don't have it anymore to test, but I just tried it in The Pinball Arcade app which emulates the machine, and indeed you can shoot either orbit when one is lit! I didn't think you could shoot the un-lit side, but it does indeed award it. Perhaps someone with a real machine can confirm that the simulation is accurate...
Awesome!! Very glad it’s not just me nerding out on that. Only a matter of time until I do a 90’s game again and do an updated chart 😀 thanks for watching!

This was my favorite pinball of all. Every day after work I was at this game for 2 yrs. So many great memories.

Exceptional video with some history as well and a masterful demo game.
Thank you for your tutorial and congratulations to your skill!
You made it look so easy. Very clear on rule explanation.

This is a great video. Going over the history, how to play and a demo. Well done 👍🏻
Thanks for the compliment and for watching! I’ll be working on the next one soon 😄
Great video AB. Well explained rules on a beautiful machine!!
i have a 1986 high speed and a 1980 firepower, steve ritche is the "king of flow" for a reason.
I didn’t realize that Gotlieb’s Rock was the first game with licensed music. With high speed 2 then licensed track is really iconic
Yep, it's so cool looking back at this time period and seeing how the games evolved. Thanks for watching!
Where can I get the signs on the back above the pop bumpers?? I really like the look

@@abpinball thanks that helps. I’ve been playing it on VPX and was wondering if this is correct behavior.
I liked the graph of the commercial success by title! Would love to see how that continued on into the 90s

i have this one and pinbot Williams made a lot of good ones
Nice! The exact two Williams games that got made into NES games, back in the day! That's the only way I played both of those as a kid! 😂
Wow! How are you so good at High Speed?!?
Haha, thanks 😬 I'd be lying if I said it took me only one game on camera to get that score though 😂
No Fear looks like kind of a remake of High Speed to me
Not a coincidence since they were conceived by the same designer! 👍
My allrine favorite pin
