"It's pretty good, it's just not up my alley." Thank you for having the maturity to discern between something that's bad and something you don't like. Not many reviewers can do that!
+mattorama The Jaguar isn't up my alley either. I had one and put it up for sale after playing a few games. It's a novelty at best. Have you played it?
+Ted Soto I had one and sold it too but it wasn't bad. I miss Cybermorph and Iron Soldier. They were like 16bit computer games updated, Doom was good too.
It is something rare on the internet. Everything is either the best thing ever or the worst thing that ever happen to mankind. As for the Jaguar. I hear its got a the best console port of Doom. So there always that.
Tbf humans have had space ships since the 1960s. Shit, America doesn't even send humans into space on their own rockets anymore. At least not for a little while longer. My personal ship is in the shop right now though, so I'm stuck on the planet for the time being.
This is one of the reasons I like Game Sack, because you do the lesser known stuff. I don't want to see a video of somebody saying Super Mario Bros. 2 was actually Doki Doki Panic for the 10 millionth time. But a video about Saturn imports I've never seen before, I'm there dude!
After the PC Engine, lots of stuff went "Grafx". In the US, we had the TurboGrafx-16. In Japan they had the SuperGrafx and the CoreGrafx. They had a Grafx phase at the company, I guess.
then they had a PC FX hentai phase with plenty of "grafx"... i dont mind, im a worldy kinda guy... except when they involve tentacles, i hate sea food.....
Well, the Jaguar has the best port of Pinball Fantasies, so there's that. It's also where the Rayman series was born, so at least it gave us something, however minimal.
I haven't researched the PS3 but I certainly wouldn't be at all surprised. Most people are still running 32-bit PCs, after all and they do some crazy awesome things. They can even emulate the "64-bit" Jaguar and 64-bit Nintendo 64.
I wish this episode was redone for the Atari Jaguar... they've since covered lesser supported consoles that got full videos and I feel the Jaguar has enough games for that treatment.
Hmm I dunno, I think its enough, let it die, the games the system the whole thing just makes me feel queasy just thinking about it. Absolutely trash system.
@@pabletoday9782 no stop.... just let trash die... let it fade...jaguar was never neat it was always garbage... i dont get why some people (usually europeans) always try to defend the worst gaming systems, be it jaguar, amiga ( ALL versions), Amstrad, etc... i get that the "speckie" was all some people had and have good memories of it, BUT if they had access to something better they wouldve admitted the gap in quality... i wish i had grown up with a Sharp X68000 instead of the MS DOS games we had at the time... its not a bad reflection on you just because you didnt have access to the best quality... we didnt know what we were missing in the west... it didnt mean we didnt have good times, but it does no good to pretend there wasnt something better... and hey, now we have access to most of those great games and we never have to settle for crap again.. be happy about it...
Also the reason why the Genesis or Megadrive if you live anywhere other than America looks as good as the Jaguar version is because it's a poor port to Jaguar that doesn't use any of it's custom hardware. There was LOTS of poor ports like that on the Jag.
The Jaguar is a misunderstood console and it really isn't that bad. There are some really fun games that you did not cover in this review, such as: Attack of the Mutant Penguins, Brutal Sports Football, Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tails, Cannon Fodder, Defender 2000, Evolution: Dino Dudes, Flip Out!, Missile Command 3D, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, Power Drive Rally, Rayman, Super Burnout, and Zool 2. It also has what many gamers consider the best home port of NBA Jam: Tournament Edition.
I'd rather play Cannon Fodder on the Amiga, where it belongs. That game was made for a mouse. And Rayman, while a diamond in the rough, is also available for several other platforms.
I'm told Rayman on the Atari Jaguar doesn't have the BS hitbox problems like the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions of Rayman, although the music on Atari Jaguar version of Rayman is not as good.
When the Jaguar came out in 1993 and for example with 1994 AvP it was (and still is) a very great game. In 1994 many from my friends that seen the game were excited. The Us Marin have the longest journey. He have to collect few stuff the helps him to escape and blow up the station. The Predator comes for honor. He want to have the head of the Alien Queen for his livingroom. You can use your disguise but you can only kill with honor, so you cannot use your cover to kill. That s a nice concept. As an Alien ... yes it is tough, but you can impregnation the UsMarin and if you die will start on this point. At all you have to find and save the Queen.Still a very very cool filling to be Alien, the bad one, the hunted and hunter.(even more in 1994) Okay there are no music in the game but it have sound backgrounds from machinery, air movements and other thing that makes a good and correct solution for the atmosphere and I like that. Iron Soldier also a very good game. It is maybe not the best but if youll take your time to play youll see it is a lot of fun and really a great game experience. Iron Soldier 2 on Jag or Jag CD is even better. If you have no Jag at home you can play try Iron Soldier III from 1999 on PSX. In one season you compare Doom 1 - just try the Jag Doom version and you will see. Other playable games are Missile Command 3D ,Rayman, Battlesphere ,Atari Karts, Brutal Sports Football, Cannon Fodder ,Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Pinball Fantasies, Primal Rage, Soccer Kid ,Super Burnout, Syndicate The Jaguar is not a super and successful console at all, but just to say in few minutes it is not good at all - it is for me very reckless and great pity. Give it a try and more time... and try not to be conscious. Sorry for my English.
It's actually from the Sega Saturn Capcom Collection 2. I had to clean it up a lot to remove the background noise but this is the only version online that I know of.
I remember when the SuperGrafx was being teased in EGM and as a proud TG16 owner I remember getting super excited for its release, which of course never happened in the US. I must have stared at the photo in that magazines for hours, wondering what all the 'ports' did, which of course were just cosmetic. Have you guys reviewed the Lynx? I have some fond memories of it and always wondered what happened to it. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!
Atari might not be such a relevant name these days in the realm of video games, But they should never be forgotten for making video games popular in its earliest beginnings.
Once more you guys have managed to surprise me. The SuperGrafx was completely unknown to me until seeing this and despite actually playing a real Jaguar back in the day you guys still managed to bring up some games I never even knew about for that system. Keep the great shows coming and I'll keep watching every episode!
Fight for Life was programmed by a Virtual Fighter worker, apparently - although he did say that the Playstation was where 3D fighting would be. A one-man project, even he hated Fight for Life!
That was because the publishers didn't want to pay him, and he had developed a better version, but he didn't give it to the publishers unless they paid him what they owed him, which they never did, and he gave them a crappy beta.
I've been using TH-cam for years and yours is the first channel I've ever subscribed to! I found you on Screw Attack a couple of weeks ago and I've been hooked ever sense. Great source of information of classic consoles, especially the more obscure ones. Keep up the great work, please!
I feel the same. Another World and Flashback. This kinda tought me that these two dont know much about what they are doing. My last video from their list. Bye!
Amiga CD-32 and the FM Towns Marty ... ^_^ the Legendary First 32-bit CD Consoles that unfortunately never really were. They both have interesting stories behind them too, but are kind of Rare.
I look forward to your game reviews so much. They are so informative and entertaining. Coming from a fan, I really appreciate all the hard work that you guys put into production and editing. I know it isn't easy, but thanks to all of your hard work, you have one of the best classic game channels on TH-cam - bar none.
The supergraphx was also released in France by Sodipeng (a subsidiary of Guillemot International, that you might know from Ubisoft). I was one of the few innocent victim who bought it... Ghouls n ghost was the best version of the game at the time, but that was it. The good part was the compatibility with pc-engine/coregraphx games, also distributed by Sodipeng. They also modified the cables so it could work with euro scart, which was pretty awesome at the time.
(8:36) - (9:56) music is so relaxing! I went to sleep right away only to be startled and so confused by Joes voice when the music stopped! I was like "huh?! What?! Where am I?! What happened?! Whe-...where's the music?!"
Really enjoyed having the side-by-side of Daimakaimura on both the Megadrive/Genesis and SuperGrafx! I have both, and I definitely prefer the SuperGrafx, but seeing them running together was a new way to reinforce my opinion. Thanks guys!
i bought a atari jaguar with 10 games at blockbuster when they were going out of business for 30 dollars, i love iron soldier and doom, i beat them both on the system. great video!
I'm earnestly wondering... Why would anyone be compelled enough to click the 'dislike' button on this video? Sure, people have varying opinions, but... really? I understand that popular youtubers will never escape 'dislikes', but seriously, are there really 80+ hardcore Jaguar/Super Graphics fans who saw this video and cared enough to 'dislike' it? I mean, I fucking love Game Sack, as they give their uninfluenced, honest opinion on games. Even if I don't agree with them sometimes, I highly respect what they say, as they are gamers who're expressing their take on games that THEY grew up playing. That's fascinating to me, and as a fellow gamer, I really can't comprehend how anyone could dislike their efforts, even if you don't agree with their opinions. Never stop what you're doing, Joe & Dave. I sincerely hope that you gain a million more subscribers as you both are a true testament to what gaming history is all about.
They didn't put as much effort into their Jaguar review as they did for other systems they reviewed. They skipped (or didn't have) quite a few of the better Jag titles like Rayman or Power Drive Rally and the footage from T2K looked as if they only spent five minutes playing it. Compared to their other system reviews, this is the worst one, I think.
mjaap The BETTER Jaguar titles!? WAT?! The Jaguar sucked! That's the point! Rayman? That was mutiplat, and Power Drive Rally wasn't that great! It was a glistening turd among a pile of lesser turds. If this was their worst review of a console, I'll grant them artist credit, as their, as you imply, 'lack of effort', translates to what we were given by Atari: a lackluster console. I type this as I wear an Atari shirt.
Doom was the standout jaguar game ....i borrowed a freinds jag once and out of his entire collection it was all i played on Closest to the pc original i have found
sorry but the ps1 version is inferior in many respects, all except intro music (thats the shit) the ps1 is ultimate doom and in trying to be two games in one it misses a lot of shit from the pc, ....sure the ps1 is a better system but i think out of the two i enjoyed the jag version more for some reason
Tony Spike i havent really played many of the console ports of Doom... :/ i first played Doom on Xbox 360 which is a great port then i moved onto PC as i got a gaming PC, then i started to collect ports of Doom, and ive played the PS1 and PS3 versions of Doom and ive played the Snes and 32x versions on emulators and from what i can tell, the Snes version has awful graphics and bad frame rate but not unplayably bad, and the 32x version is sluggish but looks near identical to the PC version and runs at a very playable frame rate! :D although i understand most games run smoother on emulators... :/
i have played most of them on their original consoles and still own some of them, most 16 bit console ports were shoddy in comparison to the original weather by graphical omission, lighting error, smoothness issues, crappy music, or even that stupid border on the 32X version but its to be expected given the power difference between 16bit consoles and PCs of the era, the best versions i have played on console are the versions packaged on the doom 3 disks on 360 and ps3 (take your pick they are identical and accurate) but the closest experience you could get back then was on the 32 bit consoles the ps1 n64 saturn 3DO and jaguar (before anyone says anything i know technically the jag was two 16 bit consoles bolted together but details details), the less said about doom 64 the better, firstly its not actually a direct copy its more of a new game but overall i thought it was shoddy in too many respects and should have been better, it actually bored me in places the ps1 version simply overwhelmed it not only in terms of accuracy and feel (witch goes without saying) but it wasn't quite their some lighting and textures were off thanks to texture shrinking and because its a port of ultimate doom they lost a few things here and their (no map between levels and no nightmare mode for example) and added a few things like a new chapter and a new score, all of these ultimately add up to merely a near perfect port of ultimate doom, and an imperfect port of the original but the jaguar version got the lighting better thus setting the correct mood, it ran just as smooth and thanks to the unique pad selecting weapons was a lot easier and faster cos you dont have to cycle through all your weps to find the one you wanted just use the numeric pad, only drawback is no music but i can put up with that since i always end up turning it off anyway despite how awesome the ps1 soundtrack is its not perfect of course, some textures are off, and the room heights aren't as varied but it feels the closest and i enjoyed it more for that, i would get a jag even if the only game i ever got for it was this i never played the saturn or 3DO versions unfortunately so i cannot comment on those the only other 32 bit console i can comment on is the the GBA port but that came out in 2001 so dosnt really count, its satisfying to play but even that omits some enemy's and weapons but at least they had the sense to release doom 2 separately,
12:42 Possibly the best transition to this I have ever heard. I saw the game, I knew at some point you would comment on the sound bite. Wasn't expecting it like that, well done!
Nuon never really got started. Was late to the market and had little support. I have one dvd which is enhanced for nuon the tim burton planet of the apes. Also nuon has atari connections. vm labs which made nuon was run by richard miller who was one of the top guys at atari and jeff minter was also involved with they.
Just now getting to this one, man, all of your videos are great. I love them, feel some nostalgia, and learn a lot along the way! I think this is the best video game channel on TH-cam.
I like the Jaguar and Atari a lot. I do understand that the Jaguar is hard to program on, but still, Atari is the oldest video game company around, and they should have known how to use the full power of their hardware. Even though I love the Jaguar, the developers for it were pretty disappointing...
Raiden MK-II (Lyra) They were around the same time. Nintendo had game & watches and the original duck hunt arcade cabinets (not the nes game) back in the 70's.
Phantom Drags Game & Watches were in the early 80's. And Duck Hunt never came on the Arcade. It began as a toy. Atari began the video game market in the early 70's, but they were the first company that succesfully made video games accessible to the public. And that means Atari made video games popular.
The Wolfenstein 3D graphics on Jaguar were MASSIVELY improved. All the sprites were basically redrawn at 2x resolution. They ended up re-using those graphics on the Mac port.
Found this channel a few weeks ago and immediately subscribed. Great content Joe and Dave. Joe, in tempest 2000 getting the weapon power up and sitting still when one of the red enemies flips onto your lane is nearly a guarantee it'll be destroyed.
When it came out, we had tons of excitement for the jaguar. Its fun to make fun of it now but back then the games were much more exciting. Even Cybermorph. Iron Soldier, Iron Soldier II, Tempest 2000, Alien vs. Predator, Flipout, Battlesphere, and quite a few others. Some really great games.
Jeff Minter's "Tempest 3000" on the Nuon was great, his "TxK" was great on the Sony PS Vita and PSN TV, and his "Tempest 4000" rocks on the PS4 and Xbox One...
I asked for a Jagwar in Europian game stores they told me they'd never heard of it. They only stocked Jaguars . I can see why it didn't sell in Europe, where the hell can you buy a Jagwar.
Just remember, these are the guys who cream heir pants over "cutem ups." The fact that they trashed AvP and Iron Soldier doesn't carry much weight. I was one of the few who had Metal Head for the 32x at the time (and apparently one of the few who know you can used digitized or animated graphics for the person giving you directives in your HUD), but Iron Soldier was the game I wanted Metal Head to be. Game Informer was on the money when they gave it 9's across the board.
+thehaxfactory how do you figure that it looks worse? Metal Head had a terrible draw distance and featured perfectly square "streets" with indestructible buildings. Iron Soldier might consist of flat shaded polygons, but the graphics were far more crisp, the gameplay was more fun, and the draw distance was excellent.
I hope there's a website that's like VH1's "one hit wonders" and "where are they now?" sort of thing for games. I want these voice and body actors, and programmers, to stand forward. The guy with the flaming projectile kilt needs to stand loud and proud before his peers, today.
The guy was claiming that Tempest 2000 and Iron Soldier proved that the Atari Jaguar was more powerful than the Saturn. Is that some sort of joke?? Tempest 2000 may be the best game, but it doesnt look like its that hard to achieve. I mean Iron Soldier uses absolutely no use of textures or anything that the Saturn could do! I mean Saturn had a wide variety of more advanced and fun games. I think that guy knew that the Jaguar's games sucked too, he was just to afraid to admit it.
The Jaguar was very well capable of doing texture mapping. Look at Aliens vs Predators. It's just memory limitations of cartridges. If it had CD's right from the start, you would have seen texture mapping.
SonicBoone56 It wasn't *just* memory limitations. It was the way the hardware was put together. Doing true 3D texture mapping was an incredibly slow and tedious processing gambit. That's why you only see it in the 2D shooters and 2D fighting games. Most of the 3D polygonal games have flat shaded models.
OpenMawProductions Atari Jaguar was truly a 64 Bit system. Jaguar had huge potential. It's memory path was 64Bit. Why it Failed? The Tramiel's sucked at marketing and were very cheap. Also everyone can thank Atari for better Video cards because back in the day it was all about sound and CPU speed and Atari proved at CES that the Graphics processor was important in games, They tested a demo against Sony and Nintendo and won hands down. Few quality Software developers backed it. Rayman rocked and was ported to Playstation, UBISoft was finished with the game but waited almost a year before releasing so they could release it with the Playstation. Other Games that are good: Dragon Bruce Lee, Pitfall, Power Drive Rally, Primal Rage
Iron Soldier is my favorite game that I own for the Jaguar. Yes its very dated and slow, but it made me smile when I knocked down a building with my fist or step on a tank :)
I love all the comments about how Joe and Dave didn't show the "Best Games" for the Jaguar system. Which everyone in the comments seem to be saying the same few games. The Jaguar was still a piss poor, over priced system folks. Just because it had like 3-5 good games doesn't justify a horrible price tag, misleading advertising, and a game library that rivals the Virtual Boy for size and quality. "Hey guys come check out this awesome but horrible debilitating disease I have! I mean, I'm gonna die but I get to see a hot nurse like once a month, so it's awesome!"
Everybody knows the Jaguar was a failure, but why not review the games honestly? From the review, it doesn't even look like they tried using the Predator's weapons.
You should do a follow up to the Jaguar as a lot has happened over the past 8 years since your last review. Lots of great games (Defender of the Crown, Rebooteroids, etc) have made their way to the console. It's a great machine. Then again, I thought it was great back then. I am not sure how old you guys are, but you do not look old enough to have owned the Jaguar at launch. If I am wrong, sorry. But, anyone who purchased this at launch and eventually got their hands on Tempest 2000 and AvP were really impressed. I know I was. The visuals, sounds, etc could not be done on systems of that time at least on these titles, and I was stoked to own this console (purchased on the NY test launch day) and was really hopeful of the future. It didn't pan out then, but we are getting our just desserts now in the way of "homebrew".
We record using s-video or better. But unlike a real HDTV, the images do not need to be scaled to what you see in real time. Depending on what is being shown in the game, I can choose to display one or both video fields (or choose the field) and have full control over the scaling. As I play the games it looks much worse due to the quick and dirty scaling.
What about Rayman? It was the chosen one on the Jag' along with Wolfenstein 3D, DooM and Tempest 2000. I mean, dat epic Ubisoft game's original version is on this console. PS: IGNORE MY SHITTY NAME
I still have my Jaguar (somewhere) and I really enjoyed it at the time. I'm sure the games don't hold up well at all, though I remember loving Iron Soldier.
The Jaguar was the worst game console I ever owned although I did like Tempest 2000 and Aliens vs. Predator was actually impressive way back then. The Jaguar was actually a pumped up 16-bit console with a 64-bit bandwith that really didn't matter much.
@@myrongaines5542 64-bit Object Processor. And everyone forgets that its hardware was used in Atari Games' arcade hits AREA 51 and MAXIMUM FORCE. The only differences were that they had a 68020 instead of a 68000 and a 40MB hard drive.
I am a die hard Atari fan. Do you know what I have say to your review? You're right. The Atari fans will say It was used to its potential. Business wise, the market was saturated. PC's (and Apple, Amiga) were really ramping things up enough to be considered consoles. Consoles that also have porn, and can balance a checkbook. As a consumer, I was in my Early 20's in this era. I was totally confused. SEGA, NEC, and Atari to a lesser extent. You get the system, but now you need a 32X, or a multitap for TG16. You have to get the CD too! If I were a parent (back then), I would go right to Nintendo. Console, TV, Games. Simple. The kid will be happy. Everyone will know exactly what the kid has, and can gift them the right type of games. The Genesis started out the same way as Nintendo, but got all freaky. Only a fanboy, or one with disposable cash could keep up. It sounds harsh, or that I'm not a SEGAboy. I am. These are just facts from the times. The Dreamcast is my third favorite of all time. NEC was the bright star over shadowed by 2 other lesser bright ones. Too many shooters, but Japan still play 16 bit shoot them ups! NEC was much bigger elsewhere. I loved that it was simple, and I hate it for that reason too. You have to add everything on, as it is setup for one person. Then, the enhanced video pack... Atari. Oh my beloved Atari. You were essentially a one hit wonder of cart/CD based consoles. The Jag with CD is a toilet. Edgy commercials, fuzzy math can not fool the kids trying out this stuff in stores. PC gaming hit big. I bought my first computer, as opposed to building my own. The amount of things to make games better, or faster is like worse than all consoles together. I once bought a game I loved so much (POD), I spent money for an MMX, and 3d video card. $500 to play one game. I was a sucker. By the time the 90's were over, the market got less confusing. The top three are doing well, and the prices could not be better. That $200 Atari Dad got us would be around $700 today. I am afraid this gen might be the end of the console as we know it. The Vax Cat is back, that is to say Terminal based gaming could be the future. Great Episode, as always.
This is the first video I've seen of these guys and I do like their information. I just wish they weren't sounding like their reading from a script all the time. I find that distracting.
+Wizard of Ass That's part of their charm. They don't take themselves overly seriously yet have great presentation in their videos. I also find that they really stand out from other youtube gaming channels.
As much as I enjoy their content and some of the humour, I do think the delivery leaves something to be desired. It's hardly WatchMojo level bad but it just feels a little unnatural
You do realize that it is all done on purpose? This channel thrives on a ton of implied humor. Much of it shouldn't even be taken seriously or be upset over.
As much as I like underdog consoles, the Jaguar really has few exclusives to recommend to all but the most die-hard fans. Titles like Checkered Flag definitely don't help. I remember buying that at a flea market a year back for about 4 dollars and it feels like a waste to me. It's a shame you guys didn't mention Rayman, as nobody seems to know that this was ported to the PLaystation and Saturn from the Jaguar. It's probably the most impressive 2D game on the system, as it is perfectly playable, even with the Jaguar controller and has really crisp graphics that you really couldn't have done on a regular Snes or Genesis.
NEW GAMES SACK, AWESOME!!! You guys are my favorite on you tube. I really appreciate all the work you guys put into all of your videos. The best channel on you tube. What is game sack? CORRECT!!!
i didnt really care too much for the video review of the Jaguar. it was unfair and biased. you picked the absolute worst games from its library (except for tempest 2000) and you went in with the mind set that Jaguar sucks. there are much better games on the Jag like Rayman which was made FOR the Jaguar initially and then ported to everything else. there is also Battle Morph, Defender 2000, a near arcade perfect port of Primal Rage, Zool 2, and many others. you also failed to mention its cult following and afterlife and that its still receiving content even in 2016. there has been a remastered version of Another World, Barkley Shut up and Jam (which blows the genesis version away), Zero 5, Iron Soldier 2, the ST ports from Atari age like Joust and Moon Patrol, new projects like Rebooteroids, a doom 2 conversion just many many more things. The Jaguar was Underated, the controller is comfortable in contrary to what you said about your thumbs hurting. It did have a lot of crappy games and most were in it's initial lifespan but all consoles have some crappy games. If you want to review the N64 im pretty sure you're not going to include Superman 64 in that review. im just saying....
That's all your opinion and the opinion of the bias cult of Jaguar fan boys. I played the Jaguar back in the day and, for the most part, it was a very crappy system. Most of the games were terrible to look at and the the controller was poorly designed.
Sorry but, using 'biased' as a complaint isn't really warranted after you went off into detail on what you thoughts are the positives of the system, which in turn made YOU biased. Which means people should stop using 'biased' as a complaint as people will biased on something anyways regardless. Also, those positive games you mentioned weren't available for them to review. And saying that the Jaguar controller is uncomfortable is not wrong, it's just personal preference and taste.
my favorite jaguar games are Bubsy, it really showed of the 2d power, and Super Burnout is amazing combo of 2d sprites on top of 3d polygons, Raiden is the best version I v played on jaguar, and the soccer game I had was just all out fun to play.
I'm sorry. I will rant be forewarned. mind You I am a 42 yr.old gamer, so I've witnessed the whole evolution. Also I collect gaming systems, I am familiar with what they can do. I am sick of the Jaguar getting knocked. mind you Atari was financially strapped at the time, it was a wonder they even released a system at all. Atari was tiny compared to Sega and Nintendo juggernauts. I find this Jaguar review simply amusing considering they miss a lot. First, cybermoroh was originally programmed in 91' to be released in the Atari Panther that was never released. So it existed wayyyyy before star fox. cybermorph is free roaming, unlike starfox. so considering cybermorph should have been ouy way earlier and was ahead of its time WHEN I was originated in 91'. Second, really mocking A vs.P? what where these two playing in 94 in s nintendo and sega cd? A vs.P was far more advanced than anything out at its release. compared to today, yes its boring. In 94' it was wayyy ahead. third, tempest 2000 is confusing? dude learn to play the game when you review it. there is a jump power up that lets you jump over grabbers. that's part of its charm. oyyy not to mention its famous soundtrack. fourth, iron soldier. really? think metal head is better? yes it had texruring but chugs along in a smaller play field. IS is slow playing but smoother and in a larger sandbox. I guess thats a matter if opinion. Jag had plenty of other decent games, Missle command 3d wich was to be compatible with a VR helm, Battlemorph, a greatly improved cybermorph, Burnout, Battlesphere....amazingly games are still being released for the Jaguar through homebrews. I just get sick of Jaguar knocking for fan boys.
+Kevin Strade It's called an opinion. Theirs differs from yours. In fact , yours is the ONLY positive comment about the Jag. Before your fanboy rant escaped you, maybe you should have thought it could be your opinion that's in the minority? I had a Jag. Tempest was boring, A v P was the only game i enjoyed but it still sucked and Cybermorph is still the worst, most annoying, tedious, repetitive piece of garbage i've ever played. (where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive). The Jag was a complete waste of money and it's failure is no shock at all. But then, that's Atari for you. They could do shit first maybe. But 6 months later, everyone else can do it better.
Writing this comment in 2020. Prediction is accurate. Super virus has us all stuck at home, fortunately that means we can play SuperGrafx all day. Maybe some Jaguar on the side. In case you're wondering, video games never did get any better than this.
Where did you learn to fly?
Damnit go away green face lady
I actually had fun playing that game...and I have zero nostalgia towards it
On the Atari Jaguar
where did YOU learn to fly?...Bitch
Joe: I don't know
"It's pretty good, it's just not up my alley." Thank you for having the maturity to discern between something that's bad and something you don't like.
It has the best port of doom. Sadly no music. Though that gives you the chance to play very loud metal music.
The PS1 port of Doom was better. Also, the frame rate in the Jaguar version leaves much to be desired.
"Only 8 years from now" Yeah, 2020 we have spaceships now.

Tbf humans have had space ships since the 1960s. Shit, America doesn't even send humans into space on their own rockets anymore. At least not for a little while longer. My personal ship is in the shop right now though, so I'm stuck on the planet for the time being.
It's just a bit disturbing that 2012 feels like 2 years ago rather than 8. But yep, here we are, in the year of a nightly TV news show from the 80s.
Wow 5 years ago. Time goes by so fast nowadays!

I did a Jaguar system review and played most of those games as well... It's definitely easy to see why the system failed so famously
@Chuck Manson no u and calm down
And also it was hard to program

I haven't researched the PS3 but I certainly wouldn't be at all surprised. Most people are still running 32-bit PCs, after all and they do some crazy awesome things. They can even emulate the "64-bit" Jaguar and 64-bit Nintendo 64.
I'm from the future...2020 sucked
I wish this episode was redone for the Atari Jaguar... they've since covered lesser supported consoles that got full videos and I feel the Jaguar has enough games for that treatment.
Hmm I dunno, I think its enough, let it die, the games the system the whole thing just makes me feel queasy just thinking about it. Absolutely trash system.

@@drunkensailor112 jaguar is bad, but its not cdi bad
Wait, aldynes does have a sound test. Its Up, Down, I, II, Run on the title screen.
I'm impressed you listed all of these in alphabetical order
+Rape Chainz Autism does wonders for things like that.
@@RAKtheUndead Rayman was created for the Jaguar first, and in many ways graphically outperforms the PS1 port. Check out a comparison video.
When the Jaguar came out in 1993 and for example with 1994 AvP it was
(and still is) a very great game. In 1994 many from my friends that seen the game were excited. The Us Marin have the longest journey. He have to collect few
stuff the helps him to escape and blow up the station.
The Predator comes for honor. He want to have the head of the Alien Queen for his livingroom. You can use your disguise but you can only kill with honor, so you cannot use your cover to kill. That s a nice concept.
As an Alien ... yes it is tough, but you can impregnation the UsMarin and if you die
will start on this point. At all you have to find and save the Queen.Still a very very cool filling to be Alien, the bad one, the hunted and hunter.(even more in 1994)
Okay there are no music in the game but it have sound backgrounds from machinery, air movements and other thing that makes a good and correct solution for the atmosphere and I like that.
Other playable games are
Missile Command 3D ,Rayman, Battlesphere ,Atari Karts, Brutal Sports Football, Cannon Fodder ,Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Pinball Fantasies, Primal Rage, Soccer Kid ,Super Burnout, Syndicate
The Jaguar is not a super and successful console at all, but just to say in few minutes it is not good at all - it is for me very reckless and great pity.
Give it a try and more time... and try not to be conscious.
Sorry for my English.
Ocelot Cat jaguar is great
Agreed, I don’t think they gave the Jaguar a fair chance.
It's actually from the Sega Saturn Capcom Collection 2. I had to clean it up a lot to remove the background noise but this is the only version online that I know of.
Game Sack. One of the only channels worth rewatching videos.
Man you guys are awesome. I wish I had more friends who were into older consoles and classic gaming. Keep up the awesomeness.
I'm starting to think you're an Atari guy
Atari might not be such a relevant name these days in the realm of video games, But they should never be forgotten for making video games popular in its earliest beginnings.
+Jay Nukem They should have just burnt out instead of just fading away.
vaporfarts Those both sound equally bad to me. Maybe I don't get your gist.

Bye!
both games are awesome, what was the 3rd one called? I think it was on ps1
Well, the two had different programmers and aren't meant to be a series, really. The sequel to Flashback is called Fade to Black, though.
God forbid a different opinion.
AdiSneakerFreak man i felt sad for that lack of love of flashback i own every port of it lol
It’s been 9 years Joe. Maybe it’s time to look at the Jaguar again with an older perspective?
Amiga CD-32 and the FM Towns Marty ... ^_^ the Legendary First 32-bit CD Consoles that unfortunately never really were.
They both have interesting stories behind them too, but are kind of Rare.
The CD-32 and the CDTV was very good but under apreciate back then and now sadly.

Whats wrong with the grammar?
i bought a atari jaguar with 10 games at blockbuster when they were going out of business for 30 dollars, i love iron soldier and doom, i beat them both on the system. great video!
I think the Jaguar needs a redemption video. Give it the full Game Sack experience. Talk about the homebrew scene, hardware, etc.
Because "Jon-ruh"
Doom was the standout jaguar game ....i borrowed a freinds jag once and out of his entire collection it was all i played on
Closest to the pc original i have found
ill stick to my PS1 version thanks! xD
or just play GZDoom... :3
sorry but the ps1 version is inferior in many respects, all except intro music (thats the shit) the ps1 is ultimate doom and in trying to be two games in one it misses a lot of shit from the pc, ....sure the ps1 is a better system but i think out of the two i enjoyed the jag version more for some reason
i have played most of them on their original consoles and still own some of them, most 16 bit console ports were shoddy in comparison to the original weather by graphical omission, lighting error, smoothness issues, crappy music, or even that stupid border on the 32X version but its to be expected given the power difference between 16bit consoles and PCs of the era,
the best versions i have played on console are the versions packaged on the doom 3 disks on 360 and ps3 (take your pick they are identical and accurate) but the closest experience you could get back then was on the 32 bit consoles the ps1 n64 saturn 3DO and jaguar (before anyone says anything i know technically the jag was two 16 bit consoles bolted together but details details),
the less said about doom 64 the better, firstly its not actually a direct copy its more of a new game but overall i thought it was shoddy in too many respects and should have been better, it actually bored me in places
the ps1 version simply overwhelmed it not only in terms of accuracy and feel (witch goes without saying) but it wasn't quite their some lighting and textures were off thanks to texture shrinking and because its a port of ultimate doom they lost a few things here and their (no map between levels and no nightmare mode for example) and added a few things like a new chapter and a new score, all of these ultimately add up to merely a near perfect port of ultimate doom, and an imperfect port of the original
but the jaguar version got the lighting better thus setting the correct mood, it ran just as smooth and thanks to the unique pad selecting weapons was a lot easier and faster cos you dont have to cycle through all your weps to find the one you wanted just use the numeric pad,
only drawback is no music but i can put up with that since i always end up turning it off anyway despite how awesome the ps1 soundtrack is
its not perfect of course, some textures are off, and the room heights aren't as varied but it feels the closest and i enjoyed it more for that, i would get a jag even if the only game i ever got for it was this
i never played the saturn or 3DO versions unfortunately so i cannot comment on those
the only other 32 bit console i can comment on is the the GBA port but that came out in 2001 so dosnt really count,
its satisfying to play but even that omits some enemy's and weapons but at least they had the sense to release doom 2 separately,
Tony Spike huh... i thought Doom 64 was pretty damned good! :/ and honestly idk how to respond cos you listed so much stuff! xD
Thank you very much. It makes me happy that at least a few people have appreciated that.
Nice vid, just a bit surprised you guys left out Rayman and Doom for the Jag 😕
We definitely would have included them if we had them available to us.

Hey, does anyone here know about a console called the Nuon?
We'll get around to that sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.
Check out rezez for a video for nuon
Nuon never really got started. Was late to the market and had little support. I have one dvd which is enhanced for nuon the tim burton planet of the apes. Also nuon has atari connections. vm labs which made nuon was run by richard miller who was one of the top guys at atari and jeff minter was also involved with they.

The voices on Wolfenstein 3D are much higher quality than the PC version too.
You'd have to buy the proper CD attachment and a system card, but yes! But you'd be limited to JP HuCard games unless you got a converter.
I like the Jaguar and Atari a lot. I do understand that the Jaguar is hard to program on, but still, Atari is the oldest video game company around, and they should have known how to use the full power of their hardware. Even though I love the Jaguar, the developers for it were pretty disappointing...
Nintendo was around in 1890...
+Phantom Drags By that, I meant that as in terms of years active in the video game market, because yes they are still around
***** Exactly what I meant

They almost nailed 2020
Found this channel a few weeks ago and immediately subscribed. Great content Joe and Dave. Joe, in tempest 2000 getting the weapon power up and sitting still when one of the red enemies flips onto your lane is nearly a guarantee it'll be destroyed.
No aliens in 2020, but that might have been better than what we do have...

I asked for a Jagwar in Europian game stores they told me they'd never heard of it. They only stocked Jaguars . I can see why it didn't sell in Europe, where the hell can you buy a Jagwar.
A vs P on jag was epic! it was the birth of fps besudes doom being the brainchild.
+thehaxfactory low resolution textures, yes.
@@tightlypackedcoil IS2 for JagCD is even better, and has lots more textures (like Battlemorph vs Cybermorph).
Doom and Rayman where pretty good on the Jag. I still enjoyed it when I was younger.
I hope there's a website that's like VH1's "one hit wonders" and "where are they now?" sort of thing for games. I want these voice and body actors, and programmers, to stand forward. The guy with the flaming projectile kilt needs to stand loud and proud before his peers, today.
I didn't know of the turbografix 16 till i was in middle school (2004)
That doesn't excuse the overall games looking bad or playing bad. They are just poorly made.

Atari Jaguar was truly a 64 Bit system.
Brad Manh was it....was it really?
Iron Soldier is my favorite game that I own for the Jaguar. Yes its very dated and slow, but it made me smile when I knocked down a building with my fist or step on a tank :)
Where did you get the reggae version of Ghouls and Ghosts music?
Where did you learn to fly?
Tempest on the Jaguar is awesome and is the reason to get the system. Still play it frim time to time.
I mean, I'm gonna die but I get to see a hot nurse like once a month, so it's awesome!"
wut
Everybody knows the Jaguar was a failure, but why not review the games honestly? From the review, it doesn't even look like they tried using the Predator's weapons.
@@DarkCylon the Predator's shoulder canon was dope.
Aww… show me on this doll where the Jaguar touched you…
You should do a follow up to the Jaguar as a lot has happened over the past 8 years since your last review.
Love this channel
We record using s-video or better. But unlike a real HDTV, the images do not need to be scaled to what you see in real time. Depending on what is being shown in the game, I can choose to display one or both video fields (or choose the field) and have full control over the scaling. As I play the games it looks much worse due to the quick and dirty scaling.
4:37 - That terrible feeling of being woken up out of a deep sleep to go to work. Yugh...
Thanks for that. We hope you enjoy all of our episodes past, present and future.
Fake account
It is a shame they never reviewed Doom on the Jaguar. I always thought it was the Jaguar's strongest game.
I like Cybermorph :))
What about Rayman? It was the chosen one on the Jag' along with Wolfenstein 3D, DooM and Tempest 2000. I mean, dat epic Ubisoft game's original version is on this console.
PS: IGNORE MY SHITTY NAME
Not exactly high praise, since there's zero reason to play Doom on the Jaguar now as opposed to any kind of computer.
@@someguy3186 The Jaguar was a lot cheaper than a 486DX-66 or 486DX-100 just to play DOOM on back then.
The Jaguar was actually a pumped up 16-bit console with a 64-bit bandwith that really didn't matter much.
it had two 32 bit processors, and several others. a mess for programmers to make games that's why a lot of games look like 16 bit.
@@myrongaines5542 64-bit Object Processor. And everyone forgets that its hardware was used in Atari Games' arcade hits AREA 51 and MAXIMUM FORCE. The only differences were that they had a 68020 instead of a 68000 and a 40MB hard drive.

yoyoyoshio267 That is what I thought. Just wish Joe would reply to one of my comments for once.
Not yet but that's something we definitely want to do. We're still deciding how best to present the topic in a way that's interesting to everyone.
That's the kindest thing anyone has ever said to us. Thanks!
Jaguar was the cream of the shit.
I absolutely love your channel! I loved my Jaguar!
It's 2020 and we have virus outbreak rather than space ships 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Love seeing new GameSack videos in my subbox :)
I read the OP in Dave's voice.
Whatever you say, man. Have fun and thanks for watching!
Rayman on Jag outperforms the PS1 version in many ways. Watch a comparison vid.
Love re-watching all these episodes!
if u use the atari jaguar controller with the console off u can call someone
Alien V Predator is one of its best games
my favorite jaguar games are Bubsy, it really showed of the 2d power, and Super Burnout is amazing combo of 2d sprites on top of 3d polygons, Raiden is the best version I v played on jaguar, and the soccer game I had was just all out fun to play.
love your show guys thx for being so dedicated
USED THE S-VIDEO GRAPHICS ON THE SUPERGRAPHX, THEY SHOULD BE EVEN BETTER THAN RCA HOOK UPS
You guys should do another Atari Jaguar episode

+steven mclaughlin Pot calling the kettle black.
Thanks! We definitely appreciate that. We'll try to make sure it continues to be worth watching. :)
Writing this comment in 2020. Prediction is accurate. Super virus has us all stuck at home, fortunately that means we can play SuperGrafx all day. Maybe some Jaguar on the side. In case you're wondering, video games never did get any better than this.
I like your style, guys. Not whining about minor problems but also not sugarcoating shit. Comparison shots are very useful.
