TL Ultralight All-Access; a tour at their factory and a thorough inspection of my airplane - S02 E16

  • An unprecedented all-access factory tour at TL Ultralight, while my own TL-96 Star gets a thorough inspection and service at their maintenance hangar; almost sounds too good to be true, but that's what happened when I visited them at Hradec Králové Airport (LKHK)! See full description...
    My airplane was built in 1999 and flew about 425 hours up until now, so she's more than two decades of age but doesn't have a lot of TTAF, nor has she ever been used for flight training. The low TTAF and known history of the plane was convincing enough for me to buy her one and a half year ago. However, that little hint of doubt of flying around with an over two decades old composite airplane has always been there.
    What to do in doubt of your aircraft? Contact the manufacturer! That's what I did and TL Ultralight showed me what long-term service should look like with every company; they offered me a complete factory airframe inspection! The 'only thing' I had to do, was to fly my airplane over to their factory, situated at the airport of Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic (ICAO code: LKHK).
    So now I suddenly had an extra reason to tick off that bucket list item, now combining the wish to visit the birth place of my airplane and give her a complete factory inspection. And what a trip this was! :)
    This episode is the second of a three episode series, telling the complete story of the flights to and from the Czech Republic, the airframe inspection of my airplane and a factory tour with a unprecedented access to the facilities of TL Ultralight!

Because I enjoy sharing my aviation passion so much, I would like to share it with the rest of the world too! But since taking on 7 billion people as my passenger isn't really practical, sharing my passion via TH-cam is... ;)
    Where a lot of aviation channels on TH-cam focus on General Aviation at the west side of the Atlantic, my channel focuses on Light Sport Aviation in Europe, primarily Holland and Germany. Light Sport Aircraft are also known as 'Microlight Aircraft' or 'Ultralight Aircraft'.
    The reason I make these videos is to exchange aviation stories and learn and improve by sharing. And because I love to share!

    Great episode Jolmer! Interesting to see the Factory tour. I didn't knew the fact that the Stream and Sirius where also made by TL! awesome to see. And nice that they took the time to thoroughly inspect/repair your TL96. Keep up the good work mate!

      Thanks! 👍🏻 Yes; the design of my plane, originating from 1996, way ahead of the competition. Today, she still is a very capable LSA, compared to the rest out there.

    Nice to have the factory tour. Looks like I've already been in one of their planes, the Sirius, quite some time ago. In deed a bit weird to see your aircraft taxiing without you, but it should give an amount of confidence that it is hand over perfectly to the test guys and thus you.

    • @ForFunFlyer
      @ForFunFlyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it was a bit of mixed emotions 😉 The mechanics and crew knew what they were doing... 😋

      @@ForFunFlyer I can understand the mixed feelings completely. You got home safely and have your aircraft like new now and that's what counts. Looking forward to part 3! :-)

    That was a very enjoyable and informative video Jolmer. It must have been really good to have access to all areas and good as a pilot owner to have a thorough understanding of the construction of your machine. What were the things you had on your list for them to do? 😎👍

    • @ForFunFlyer
      @ForFunFlyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The airframe inspection and making the aileron inspection windows in the wings, were on my own list. TL added those wing suspension bolts, flap lever guide rails and pilot side step construction repair to that list.

    TL Ultralights facility was very impressive. Good to know your aircraft is in such capable hands. Do you know if they make props for other engines? I have an Avid Magnum with 0-320 160hp that I am looking for a composite ground adjustable prop.

    You have visited TL Ultralight factory and JMB Aircraft factory. Which factory is bigger and which one you believe uses more modern production techniques?

    • @ForFunFlyer
      @ForFunFlyer  ปีที่แล้ว

      TL had more space. I couldn't see everything at TL, but I guess JMB has a slight advantage in regards to production processes.
