So I just did this WITHOUT swapping the PCM as you did, just to see if it would work. Haven't started it yet (Slight issue with my starter). but right off the gate, hit with multiple DTC codes: P0962, P0966, P0974, P0983, P2720, P2764 Related to not being able to see the transmission. P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request) and C1294 (probably will go away once the car actually runs) According to my tuner, none of these codes should prevent the car from starting, and I'm tuning them out since I'm on ECUtek. I'll update later today if it runs, but if you have it tuned already, I don't see the need to replace your PCM. If you're on a stock tune like OP, then I would say just do it to avoid headache. I'm probably going to do a full writeup with pictures on how to do it and what challenges I faced, but yeah. Also @ChannelRM, I wanna say thank you for this info. I spoke to the OP of the original forum post before he wrote it on Instagram back in 2018, and while he's a nice guy with heart in the right place, it put me off something plenty with how much had to be swapped. Knowing what I learned from your vid saved me loads of cash that I put towards fun mods like a seat and a fancy clutch. If you're ever up north, I owe you a beer.
@@ChannelRM1 One thing I do have to figure out eventually, how did you wire in the reverse lights? Since the car thinks it's in park/neutral always, curious how you actually solved that. I'm not a mechanic by trade, just a hobby. I'm also curious to test at least the sensors from the Auto trans, is instead of leaving it unplugged if you could solder some resistors to match the impedance of a functional value (Similar to the seat airbag sensor when you have an aftermarket seat), which may make it easier for someone who wants to remain on a completely stock tune. Just thinking out loud with that last point lol
No, the ECU is part of the immobilizer circuit and is coded to all items in said circuit, like the ignition, TCM, PCM, everything electronic effectively. Though there's no point in running a manual ECU if you're not also going to swap the whole harness. The best way if you want to get the full experience is to do a PnP ECU from somewhere like LinkECU if you want to do fancy things like rev match, gear position and such.
Update to my previous comment regarding the lack of doing the PCM install: My car was not starting initially due to the auto gear shift change being part of the immobilizer circuit. I plugged it in and it started right up. All I need to do is rip the guts out of the box and stuff it somewhere. As of right now, I can confirm you do NOT need to do the PCM install to do a manual swap. Hope this helps
@@TheLeeTVFilms The actual gear shifter assembly for the auto transmission under the radio. I disassembled it tonight and plugged in the wire harness with only the heavy solenoid found in the shifter and it started right up.
No it does not as the TCM cannot see the transmission, which is completely separate from the ECU and can't be fixed through an ECU tune alone. You can have the TCM reprogrammed to ignore said signals and make the car happy, or you can trick the TCM with resistors. I have a full guide on r/FT86 with how to do that. Can't link it here, but it's doable.
@@TinyBatman I don't really think the TCM can be reprogrammed, I tried to update the software on it a few months back, and you can't even do it without licensed techstream software, so I can only imagine how difficult would it be to edit the software and then reflash it.
@@patorikkubaketsu8845 My tuner thinks he can, though I don't have direct confirmation so it technically is hearsay at that point. That being said, it's cheap and easy going the resistor route 😅
So question I’m fixing so do my swap but I’m not sure if I have to switch out the pcm/ecu on my car or if I leave the automatic one in with out a tune? And if it will have any problems if I don’t switch it out 🫣
I've checked both at and mt roms (they should be the same but for different type of transmission), and there are not many changes between them. 355 tables are the same, 13 are changed and 8 are missing. I don't see a reason to change the ecu, just the reflash should b enough, but I don't think it's gonna run properly without the tune
Can you explain the security process a little more and what happens if you don’t do it pls
You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for one of these bro you’re seriously a life saver. Thanks man
dude please post more about this, been looking for a video like this for a long time and this info is very useful. i have questions.

Yes those codes are on my car currently but don’t affect drivability. And I’m glad I could help, I’m in PA, so glad to see others

@@ChannelRM1 Nevermind, found the documentation for the MT. Now just have to figure out how to wire directly to the reverse lights
What two pins in the obd2 port ?
Can it be tuned with Automatic ECU ? Or must that be swapped to a Manual ECU to hit the dyno?
Do you mean can the auto be converted to manual via tune? My tuner told me yes, I just haven’t done it yet
@@ChannelRM1 Thanks! That's good to know. I'm about to do the swap so you saved me a ton of work!😅

So i really dont need to pull the entire harness out then? This video makes it sound 1000% more easier than it needs to be
Took me an hour lol
@ bruh alright im swapping it then lol

Is yours a push start? I didn’t need to do that.
