    Great selections, Kenny. I find it hard to rank these ladies. My favs are Ella, Sarah, Billie, Nina, Julie L. and more contemporaries like Cassandra Wilson, Valerie Joyce, Anne Bisson, Melody Gardot, Jacintha, Cecile McLorin, Lizz Wright…

    Hi Kenny! I almost had a three-fer with my guess before you started showing your top 3. I guessed, Ella, Sarah, and Billie Holiday. Great review of the female legends. I forgot Aretha...classic queen from Detroit, which is where I live close to in the mitten state of Michigan. Great vid, thanks for the great vinyl picks! P.S. I thought we were getting an Akido lesson with your background.....hahah!

      😊😁 Thank you very much for noticing the books in the background...Billie Holiday is a great singer and she is in my top 10.

    all three of your choices are wonderful. I don't like to use the word "best" I prefer "favorite" Some of my favorites are Janis Joplin (was lucky enough to see her live at the Fillmore East...OMG !! What a show!!) Chrissie Hynde, Penelope Houston (singing with The Avengers) Martha Reeves, Arlene Smith (The Chantels)

    • @kennysaudiophilerecordreviews
      @kennysaudiophilerecordreviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I was to use the word "Favorite" instead of "best" then my top 10 list probably would be very different. My top ten best would be based on the most talented singers and my top 10 favorites would best based on other elements outside of singing talent.

    • @willieluncheonette5843
      @willieluncheonette5843 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Yes, Billie Holiday is probably not the "best" singer since I think she had only a 2 octave range but she is truly a wonderful singer.

    Nice list. How about the top five? Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, Aretha Franklin, and Eva Cassidy. One of my main criteria is the ability to sing different styles at a very high level. Each of these singers (except maybe Ella, but she was just so good) over the course of their career, to one degree or another, sang very different styles of music at very high levels.

    • @kennysaudiophilerecordreviews

      That's a very good top five for sure and your criteria for your top five is equally as good but I still like Sarah Vaughan 😊😁

    My list in no particular order would be Shirley Bassey, Chakka Kahn, & Patti Labelle. The reason being, is I think they were serious about the art of singing to last a lifetime. Patti Labelle also dabled in the jazz world. She has a (Jazz in you) song & she did a live performance on the Steve Harvey show if you want to check it out. There's some others like Minie Ruperton I could have mentioned, but she didn't get a chance to be a lifelong performer.👍

    Can't stand "Alone Again (Naturally)" no matter who sings it.😅
    I see your point (about the song).
    Ella, Etta, Aretha, Sarah, Billie, Nina...
    They are royalty in vocals for sure.
    My personal favorite is a lady who wasn't as established (as one may think) and had a very limited solo attempt (but I believe had potential), Florence Ballard.

      @kennysaudiophilerecordreviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Florence Ballard, I must agree.... It's a shame that she had personal issues and addiction issues because she was a beautiful lady with great potential that was never realized.

    Kenny, I don't usually reply to videos, but you've got me running off at the mouth twice in one day. What can on one say about the "First Lady of Song" as Sinatra dubbed her? I was fortunate enough to see her live in the late 70's at the Seattle Opera House w/ Joe Pass & Oscar Peterson, simply great, but it seemed a very odd venue for jazz. Also was a big Aretha fan I remember her back-up band in the late 60's - King Curtis, Cornel Dupree, Bernard purdie, Billy Preston. Never saw Sarah Vaughn, but remember she was always his favorite. My favorite since the mid-70's has been the vastly under rated Patti Austin (Quincy Jones & Dinah Washingtn's god daughter)

    Just took a listen to ella, sarah and aretha. imo i prefer Lauryn Hill. Killing me softly alone is better than anything the others tried to do. This is just for me. unfortunately lauryn's career was cut short. Also ella, aretha and sarah have many audiophile recordings. Lauryn Hill is from the late 90s early 2000's so her stuff isnt as well recorded unfortunately.

      @@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews i love Roberta Flack id place her above ella and aretha sarah also. im not a fan of jazz or easy listening type of music. Roberta's version of killing me softly is awesome but lauryn hill puts a bit more emotion and takes it to a slightly higher level imo.
