(1350) Challenge: Sheep Dipped

- Fast Charlie send in several challenge locks, each with a "special" name. I called this one "sheep dipped" because of the sticker that he put on it. The core had some unique modifications and contained some interesting hand-made pins, as well as other "tweaks".

That was some amazing picking. It was a pleasure to watch and thank you for sharing this. Never had that happen with the epoxy. Walnut and bloodwood on the picks. Driver 3 looks to be upside down from how you grabbed it. So the pointy side should go toward the spring. That plug was experimented with heavily before becoming a challenge lock. It was meant to prevent anyone from trying to pick counterclockwise.

Well, it sure worked! Had I not been able to pick it clockwise, you KNOW my routine is to pick it CC, then spin it to get an unlock. Either way, great job! IOU a paclock!

"Shim needed" on the Key Tag!!!
I saw that too.
As well as a "please remove set screw first". All that thinking, and a quick read of the key tag would have solved a lot of issues much faster.
I try NOT to look at keys before picking the locks, so I don't go in with any preconceived notions of how to attack the lock. I guess I SHOULD look at the tags tho... The first time I see them is through the camera LCD, which is pretty low resolution, so I don't take the time to read them. You'd think I'd have that figured out by now, but no....I've always been a little....slow.

Was I the only one who got excited when the warning popped up? I'm sorry, Bill, but the gaffs are as entertaining as the picking at times. When the screen went black, the noise made me think it had all come apart or something, but then I realized it was just the camera had went down. I think that one day you should make a blooper reel.
Pick till it opens. You gave me that advice a little over a year ago. Great advice it is too. I stopped worrying about several things..especially which pin I was on because you told me it doesn't matter and that with experience that I would just know. Thank you again for those pieces of advice. It helped a lot in freeing my mind which allows me to concentrate on other things.

Nice work fast charlie! Lots of work went into that lock, and it sure slowed Bill up, which is quite the feat in itself! Looked like excellent work on the picks as well, keep it up! I love picking, but it's amazing to see you do it, and as faster than I do. I just wish I can get some old locks like you do from friends. I just don't have any friends to give me.

What would take me 30 minutes on a C-clip, Bill could pick up a coke bottle, and yank a c-clip off the end... he just picks up anything, and it works.

Pin 3 in the bible wasn't orientated with the pointy side towards the key, so the pin was put in correctly :)

It's Friday, drink a beer and relax bill... You seem a little tired lately.
How did you solve the issue with your audio?
I apply a notch filter from 4550hz to 4650hz on all my audio. Whatever is vibrating in my vocal cords apparently occurs at that frequency. I cannot hear it, but by trial and error with people with super hearing, that was the result.

just for curiosity, who exactly keeps track of your "credit" and how much f&^% ing credit do you need these days?
The challenge lock builders go to a lot of trouble to design and make these locks, always with the intention of "defeating" me for 30 minutes. In order to be fair, the lock should not leave the camera frame, or it leaves doubt that I could have somehow modified the lock to pick it, then changed it back for the gutting. Because my camera battery died halfway through, I do not get "credit" for picking the lock fairly. In my case, whenever a lock "beats" me, I send a custom engraved Paclock to the maker. THAT is what I meant in this video. Although I opened this lock, it was not according to my own rules, so I'll send Fast Charlie one of those locks.
Aahhh, to thine own self be true... Always the best policy
