Thanks so much for this video! My dad was frustrated with the spring and put me on the project. I tried for a few minutes before deciding I could look for a video tutorial. This was perfect - very clear, concise instructions without any chit chat! Got the motor running in 15 minutes. Cheers!!

This mower has been kicking for about 10 years now. Always had a short cord on it after the original snapped and other minor issues with the recoil starter th-cam.com/users/postUgkx-NCBSqqKJlyQ5_JGS_STpsFYihe7bmM3 until I finally had to open it up in an attempt to feed in a new line. I noticed it was all rusty and the coil was going but upon dismantling it was too much of a pain to get it all back in there correctly and opted to just get a new one. not sure why i waited so long to do so but it was a cheap, easy fix and it would have saved me hours of fiddling with the old rusty coil or trying to pull start and having cheap make-shift lines break in my hand during a pull. If yours is scuffed just replace it!
I have heard your complaints about the background music, so I deleted the old version of this video and replaced it with one with no background sound. Hope you enjoy it.
This helped me immensely. There are many videos on replacing the cord but not about assembly/disassembly of the starter itself. Well let's just say when I opened mine due to a jam, I was not expecting the metal band spring to explode into a giant tangled ball. Needless to say, trying to brute force the coil back into shape is impossible. Doing it with the method in the video is the only way I was able to do it 😅
Thank you! I was about to break something after fighting that recoil spring for a couple of hours but the tip about just positioning the center coil end correctly before remounting helped immensely 👍
I was about to try this when I decided to spray a generous amount of WD 40 into the coil and let it sit for a day. The next day the rope pulled back into place and it now works fine. You may want to try this before taking the pull starter apart.
Love the video easy to follow however that black plastic circle is giving me some serious issues! It's unscrewing the screw holding it down when i pull the cord! Please help!
I'm trying to make out from the video if the threads on the screw are normal or reverse thread? Are you turning it Counter Clockwise to remove the screw or Clockwise? Mine is stuck and I'm afraid to break the screw if I put too much force on it the wrong way. It looks like CCW here, as per normal, but because the engine runs in the same direction (and thus vibration might back off the screw), I thought this screw would be reverse threaded. Thanks.
@@motoprof1441 Thanks, Bud. Wonder if its been locktited in? Its pretty tight. I think the spring is intact, but it slips whenever I try to tension it beyond what it is retracting the cord half way.
Great tutorial! I want to change the orientation of the module so that the cord handle is at 2 oclock and not at 10. Since I placed the generator in a soundproofing box it become very uncomfortable to manipulate the handle from behind at start engine time. Btw as well as yours my recoil cover has 6 holes of which only 3 are used. If this possible to do without affecting the starting operation?
I've noticed the same thing on a bunch of these engines. Only those three holes are threaded too, btw. I think they have captured nuts welded on the back of the hole. I'm sure they're fine as they are. Perhaps the plate or starter is designed to fit a bigger motor, which would thus have need of more holes. I have owned several snowmobiles with much bigger engines and they have had up to six or more holes filled, if I remember correctly.
Try prying out on the back of the starter as you loosen the bolts. The threads on yours are stripped and prying out sometimes allows better threads to engage and then the bolt may come out.

Thanks! I had a broken gx200 starter pull that I rebuilt from your video. Work's like new now. Saved me $75.
Thx. Yours is best on TH-cam. Plain, simple, no garbage.
Very versatile video. The direct, simple approach was perfect. All I needed to do is change the cord. Thank you.
First time having to replace a broken pull cord, would have been a bear without this tutorial, saved me lots of grief! Thank you!! :)

I wish this video had some folksy background music to help drowned out the voices screaming in my head.

Now that’s how you make a great video. Great job.
Thanks for this video. Bending the spring solved my issue. THX!

A no nonsense explanation. Thanks.

Gracias muy didactico el video (despues de mirar mi motobomba 2 años con el tirador cortado por fin lo he arreglado)

Thanks I was having a really hard time with this and you cleared it right up!
Do u no the part numbers for the return springs an friction spring in the paw
Thanks a bunch for this video. I guess I rotated it the wrong way and broke the spring. I was here looking at how to do it the right way.

It's a lefty loosy, righty tighty. 😆

What if the writing is upside down so I can start the machine from a different angle? Upside down writing affects anything?
If the writing was upside down, only people in aircraft would be able to read it ;-)
Haaha! Awesome!

Thank you so much. Your video is usefull!

What do I do if the ratchet guide is stuck
Excelente esplicacion aunque no sé el idioma pero entendi el trabajo perfectamente gracias
When I try to remove the 3 nuts with a 10mm ratchet the nut keeps on spinning. Help ! What can I do ??

@@motoprof1441 Thanks, I'll try your suggestion.
Trataré de hacer, ya que no puedo enredar el resorte y ajustar la cuerda

Good
THIS IS NOT HOW YOUR INSTALL A START SPRING
Why don't you share your expertise or video on the "correct way" to do it?
This is a lot harder then you think better off just replacing it for $20AUD for a kit that comes with a starter and a few other goodies off eBay
Thank you so much sir ❤️❤️❤️👍👍
Thanks
