A brilliant performance of another of Bach’s brilliant compositions. Exuberance in the outer movements; delicate sensitivity in the middle. And Corti’s smile at the end of the first captures the pleasure of the musicians wonderfully.

The Dutch are the very best Bach interpreters i have ever come across, they seem to always play bach so natually, i heard the first performance of Bachs christmas oratorio in the westerkirch in Amsterdam and left me absolutely spellbound, they really are the champions of bach performance, yet bach never visited Amsterdam, he never left his native Germany!

Corti, the harpsichordist in this NBS performance, is Italian. Sato, the NBS concertmaster/solo violinist, is Japanese. The conductor/harpsichordist in the NBS performances of the concertos for 3 harpsichords is Danish. Many of the singers in the NBS performances of Bach's cantatas are not Dutch.

The players, individually and communally, showing their obvious pleasure in every Bachian phrase, mood and passion. Monsieur Corti's phrasing is quite amazing...enough time taken to really shape particular passages, without mannerisms or overuse. A special, live performance, again...wow. The more I study Bach, the more I wonder how harpsichord players heads keep from exploding. How on earth can you read so many notes at such speed? It's almost supernatural. I don't think I could even register the highs and lows as fast as yall can probably scan the whole sheet. Had toy pianos in the cradle maybe and never stopped playing? Well, I admire the skills.

I woke up this morning with the allegro ma non tanto going through my head (without a number), but I had the reconstructed 1055r oboe concerto by Heinz Holliger. I played a bit and then realized that it wasn't quite as baroque in style as I had been hearing from the NBS.

Now I realized that there's another harpsichord for the continuo part: my opinion is that, like one blind chess pupil I had many years ago, they "did correctly their homework".
