You have a very nice way - a loving way - of working/playing with Laddie. You can tell Lad loves you and wants to please you! My Laddie passed away in 2018. We now have his great niece, Nella. Rough collies are such great friends!
It's to her credit how beautiful he is. For a Collie's coat to look like that it takes a real loving commitment to keeping them well groomed ! As a multiple Collie owner, over the years, I'm talking about thorough grooming once a week, at the absolute minimum, and frequent touch ups in between, because they tend to bring home anything, and everything, in their long hair when they're being walked, especially through parks and such - or just out in your own backyard ! I groomed all my Collies myself because who could afford to pay a 'professional groomer' once a week, or more ?!
@voiceofreason7856 I agree with you but also I find not a lot of people choose this wonderful breed because they feel they can't do what you described! I am also a multiple collie owner both rough and smooth. My roughs needed special attention at the back of the ears and the paws needed to be looked at frequently to prevent mats there but otherwise I admit to infrequent brushing, maybe twice a year desheading when the coat changes. My roughs look great. Even when they got dirty nothing stuck to them and would just fall off when dry. My roughs with lots of white, I would always get comments that I must bathe them all the time when I really did not.
Your laddie is a handsome rough collie. I used to have two rough collies 1st rough collie live to 11 years of age. 2nd lived to 14 years but past away from cancer of the nose spread to the brain. I down size to Shetland sheepdog. My 1st. Sheltie lived to 12 years of age in 2020. I got my 2nd Sheltie in Spring 2021. I love both herding breeds.

My Rough Collie didn't like being groomed when he was a puppy, and younger dog. Now he's a 4 1/2 year old adult he enjoys it much more. I think the key is making sure you aren't accidentally catching his skin, or around his private parts , with any of your grooming tools, like a perhaps 'too sharp' slicker' ? With those things it's about the angle of the bristle head, and making sure you're not catching his skin ( it's called 'slicker burn' ) with those few edge bristles at the wrong angle ! It's so easily done, especially if the dog is a bit of a wiggler ! I see your comment is a year old, so I hope he's gotten better for you. With my guy his 'resistance to being groomed ' was something he just seemed to grow out of. Hope this helps since - as you know - it takes good and frequent grooming habits to keep your Collie as beautiful as Laddie in this video is ! :)
These are excellent family dogs, high coat maintenance though, but as active or lazy as you want to be. Going through chemo my collie was just as happy to nap with me as he was to take walks along the lake. He lived 12 years. same amount as my first collie i had as a teen to adult.
