People don't realize how good the composer cut scene is.
They nailed so much of the cutscenes in this game, that slow-mo of the scientist being composed gave me nightmares You truly realize the ruthlessness of the forerunners

storywise it is the best of halo.
it has immersion back then the games are just fun and enjoyable.

i love how master chief's tone of talking changes. in Halo CE there was just complete bliss and calmness in his voice, then in halo 2 it was a sturn badass tone, in halo 3 a little more calm, and then in halo 4 he sounds a little more older and calmer, when he has raise his voice especially he has the tone in his voice, but its always been like that like the beginning cutscene of two betrayals.
They were all digitalized by the composed. That's why Cortana could hear them in the data pulse. Painfully striped. Oww.
I love that concept. I hope we see more of it in the future. Organic matter being physically converted into digital information. Not often you hear of creepy and bit terrifying concept in sci-fi like that.
+Pareidolia Erm... Sci-fi is built upon such concepts. I have to question the breadth of your experience with the genre if you find this a rare use of such a concept. Iain Banks in particular, may he rest well, wrote some incredibly chilling sci-fi back in the late 80s.
Django Cribbs Sci-fi is a broad genre. Not everyone will know every facet and origin of its use. You don't have to sound condescending about it, if anything I'm glad you let me know about Lain Banks so I can check him out.
But I've focused on very post-apocalyptic/dystopia sci-fi. From "A Brave New World", to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep." Or "The Chrysalids", "Slaughter House Five" to name a few. It's not a pissing contest to who knows more about a genre, we read for our own enjoyment.

It's not about starting a pissing contest, it's just a correction. Corrections are always going to sound condescending without tone of voice to give context. This scene and the concepts surrounding it are certainly inspired by sci-fi classics.
Django Cribbs Yeah. Actually if you look at Mass Effect and Halo, Alien, they all have that idea of a race before races influencing and looking over the species of the universe.
Protheans, Fore-Runners, Engineers. Another classic idea that has influenced a lot of modern sci-fi too.

343i owns all right to the Halo soundtrack. They're not using the original music on purpose, to differentiate the Reclaimer Saga from the original trilogy. Just like the visual artstyle changed, they changed the musical style as well. They've dialed back a bit with Halo 5 though, it sounds a bit more like the original music than Halo 4.
Its because the choir is the theme for the halos, hence forth the only time it would be appropriate is while looking at or on a halo ring.
AvidDiving the choir is the main melody of the franchise, not just the Halo rings. It should’ve played when you start up the main menu.

According to the Librarian in earlier cutscenes, composition doesn't kill those converted, but it completely repurposes them into digitized monsters to serve the Didact. So they may just as well all be dead.

I like how the Chief is stoic in the face of all that death, but the moment Cortana says how they'll "pair him with another AI" he completely crumbles. "That's not going to happen" and he's right. He cares so deeply about her, even if she doesn't make it he won't want another AI.

This scene just reinforces how good Halo is, great gameplay but an absolutely epic story that is brutally deepened with cutscenes like this. Has there ever been a game that told a story on this epic of a scale.

I felt alienated by halo 4, looking back it was pretty good but all the inconsistencies made me upset back then, cortana looks different, unsc logo changed on the fud, same with all the weapons and warthogs too, apparently.

4 had one of the strongest campaigns of the entire series. Some people don't like it when you take their cyborg super soldier and give him some emotional maturity though. I thought the whole thing was brilliant.

Well... she was right. They did pair him with another AI and it was another Cortana model. This scene takes on a heartbreaking new quality given how Cortana echoes this statement to him in her final message to the Master Chief.

Halo 5 ruined the impact of 4 in so many ways. And the two and a third game lead up to Cortana's rampancy death was ruined the most.
Well at least Cortana became a villain in Halo 5, a real plot twist. I prefer 4 over 5 but also 5 had its moments.
I also think that 5 is too focused on Locke instead of Chief, and also that Cortana in Halo 4 is hotter than in Halo 5 XD
AdiMercury that isn’t a good plot twist though, that’s just bad writing.
Nighterlev that’s arguably worse writing. 343 was too weak to have any sort of permanence in a major character’s death, so they came up with that lame-brained excuse. Beyond that being totally idiotic, it’s also downright disrespectful to the legacy of Cortana’s character.
But that was only one of the countless problems with 343’s narrative and direction for the series. They’ve ruined Halo far beyond that one critical error.

I've been playing Halo almost my entire life. been to every midnight release after Halo 1. with all the flak Halo 4 got, this composer scene is my favorite scene in the entire series. any other Halo fan would point to Chief's most incredible feats, or Cortana's wittiest moments, but this right here is a defining moment for both of these characters, and I believe it has changed Chief for the rest of the series. He takes visceral care to save any and every human life, so he never has to feel this grief ever again. because he bares so much guilt in his failures. even in the past, but the loss of his only true companion and coping mechanism paired with preventable loss of human life weighs heavier on his mind than the Flood, the prophets, even the Didact. his every movement is a crossroad between critical failure leading to total suffering and genocide, or a small victory to push back unsurmountable odds, and he never gets to celebrate his achievements. only to be plunged into his next suicide mission. John S-117 was once a one dimensional character. but when you read his body language you can see the mental hurdles he goes through to even function, and none of it is even for himself.
There was never a next time……….
Man I still remember being a little disappointed during this part of the campaign because for a moment I thought we were going to the Halo ring.
As soon as I saw 4:50 in game, I was like;
"Holy shit.... 343 has made this so dark. I LOVE IT!!"
Cortana is upset seeing all of those innocent people die. Master chief acts like he doesn't care and wants to continue the mission like nothing even happend. Whos the real machine in that scene? I was hoping the whole point of this trilogy would be that Master chief would get his humanity back that was stolen from him. Clearly Halo 5 shows that wasn't what they had in mind.
ewantu Halo 4 tried to draw his humanity through the interpersonal connection he had with Cortana, rather than with others. Personally, I think they did a good job doing that. As well, drawing that compassion from an AI who has worked with him for years and years and not from passing civilians and expendable soldiers makes more sense in the context of his austere military experience.
Since he's a spartan, he can numb himself to a lot of the pain. However when Cortana brought up her replacement, he immediately turned his head, which showed her being his leverage to his humanity. When Cortana was replaced by Micro-transactions, Master Chief had to hide his feelings again to cover up for marketable merchandise.

God, I love the cutscenes in this mission. They're so heart wrenching, the way cortana and tilson are almost choking on their words, you can really hear the emotion in their voices. And chief, trying his best to stay focused and complete his task. There's so much emotion in not only the voices, but just the WAY chief moves as well. It's so chilling to see him quickly spin and march away from tilson as soon as she gives the go ahead for him to use the nuke. Or when he turns away from cortana to regain his composure, but then turns back to comfort her. The silence in these scenes hits hard too.
There was no “next time” for any of them….
Notice chief was acting distant and urgent at the end until cortana started talking about her death. I like seeing this different side of chief.
And they said the halo theme wasn’t in halo 4

Does anyone know where in the Star Wars films that beginning music (or something very similar to it) can be heard?
Whereas the Halos we see in the Halo game came from the Lesser Ark, Omega Halo came from a Forerunner Installation lost to the Flood called the Greater Ark.
Omega Halo does not designate size (Although it was three times larger than the Halos we see in game) it is simply a designation, like 04 being called Alpha Halo, 05 is Delta Halo, and 03 in the cutscene above is called Gamma Halo.
I agree.. There are a few very good tracks in Halo 4. Like ''117'', ''Arrival'' and the main theme. But overall I think the quality of the soundtracks lowered since Neil Davidge took over.. I wouldve loved some old Halo tracks in Halo 4.. Like Peril and the Halo 3 theme.
One of the biggest missed opportunities of Halo 4's soundtrack was wasting the Halo violins theme at the start of the game, because that cue *always* plays the first time we see one of the Rings. It plays at the beginning of CE when we see 04, it plays again among the rubble in Halo 2 and *again* when we see 05 for the first time (and again when High Charity jumps into orbit over it during "Gravemind") and it plays again when we see 08 in Halo 3. "Only a Star, Only the Sea," the rendition from Halo 2 Anniversary, is one of my favorite cues in the franchise and fits this sequence so well.
New music is great but the Theme and Never Forget were awesome additions.
Maybe the Arbiter'll rip out Jul's spine Predator style.. :D But yeah, I'm really excited to see their take on the Flood, considering even the ones in the multiplayer gametype creep me out.

Yup. The process isn't perfect and often leaves distortions.
That's what the Prometheans are. The Knights, Watchers, and Crawlers are all controlled by the composed souls of Humans and Forerunners.
The Didact attempted to use them to fight the Flood because they can't infect metal, and since they are controlled by consiousness, the Flood can't manipulate them with the Logic Plague.

It has no /official/ name, it's internal name is something along the lines of "m7_cutscene1" or something like that.

All the Forerunner Prometheans that were composed did so willingingly, as they knew it was the only way to defeat the Flood without firing the Halo Array. Not many Prometheans had shown up as the Didact was showing signs of being mentally unstable.
The Didact forcibly composed the Humans of Omega Halo and conscripted them into his Promethean ranks to bolster his forces.
