For whatever this comment is worth, I would like you to know that your videos have been instrumental in pushing me into trying shotgun shooting. I've always had land that I could indiscriminately shoot on (within the law) but I just assumed the social aspect was full of posh old twits with more money than sense. However, your videos have exposed a different aspect which is often not portrayed. Not to mention the production quality is better than some of the more established outfits with presumably much higher budgets.

I'm sure that's and amazing gun. Titanium can be a beast to machine, I own a machine shop that makes gun accessories and we use a lot of it, but the end result is worth it! I'm sure drilling 32" was no joke! However, once you figure out the feeds and speeds and get the correct tooling, it's like anything else, it just takes a bit longer.

I wish Longthorne every success, and i hope they have patented this gun in several ways because this is is the future of gunmaking. Titanium was originally developed for the Space and Aviation industry and is known to be stronger and tougher than steel, or most steel alloys, much lighter (less dense) than steel and has a high degree of corrosion resistance. You and i may consider it totally rust free.
This really is a step forward in gunmaking.

It's no revolution. Titanium would be common in gunmaking if it were as cheap as steel, but it cannot be by nature. 30x the cost for the same, or marginal performance gain is simply isn't worth it

    • @angelobartolomeu5679
      @angelobartolomeu5679 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Just a slight addendum. Titanium is tougher than most alloy steels, but not that many. But none are lighter and tougher than titanium, it's strenght/weight is unbeatable by steel.
But titanium is considerably weaker to fatigue, so cracking and fissures due to high work frequency is common if you dont change the part

Well, to arrive at such a lightweight barrel set you'd normally need to go short, and combined with the steel monoblock, you're bringing that weight into the middle of the gun, resulting in a low value for your polar moment of inertia, and a whippy gun.
This way, although it's lightweight, the mass is spread out, and you've got a polar moment of inertia which is relatively high for the gun weight.
Like a wire walker carrying a long balance pole or lengthening a pendulum.

I’m in Canada so we have a 10 cartridge limit and I give up 2rds, (it’s an 8 shot) and it’s on par with 10rd pistols. It takes about the same time to reload as well, but after 24 or so rounds I do start to fall behind. But it comes into its own when there are 30-50yrd targets or I need power to activate spinners or knock down targets. I love seeing gun companies pushing the boundaries of what's possible, especially with material choices since many design choices are mostly worked out and we know what works. The next step is working on the making and processing of the new material and playing with it's unique properties like anodizing for aesthetic effect. It would or could look amazing with the right kind of heat or chemical anodizing on the barrels. Just an idea for the Lamborghiniesque nature of the gun haha

Suggestion if the rib is a problem try glass beading it on top. As for tooling we have done a lot of titanium couplings for navel use and the tooling companies have a good handle on titanium but its a different beast to steel drill bigger to tap it like stainless but hit the tooling reps up someone with naval or aerospace experience .

Love it -- the man with the titanium gun... What's next composite barrels -- lol.
That machining process must be costly, so I wonder how much that would add to the price?
It is interesting why Ti tubes aren't common. Have those tubes been long-term tested? Few thousand rounds maybe?

Very nice piece. Thx for sharing. Ti is very unique material. Use it in aerospace apps. My dive/sailing knife is a 15 year old Ti blade. Not the sharpest edge and yet survives prying opihi of lava rocks. My 20000 round Sig 210 A barrel from 1953 looks like new. I hope you get the same quality from your barrels.

I wonder what a Titanium barrel with an Inconel action would be like, Inconel is a very high grade steel alloy and its got the properties of Stainless Steel (doesn't corrode or pit easily) and behaves like Titanium alloys (in terms of retaining its tensile strength and shape when heated). It enables less material to to be used compared to most Steel alloys, at the cost of expense and being harder to wok with.

  • @mickymondo7463

How has the titanium coloured up with use? From using titanium in motorcycle exhaust systems the colour changes can look fantastic, so after throwing plenty of rounds through has the material coloured up?

  • @neodutch

That barrel ring will affect your hearing much more than the shot itself. A dedicated set of hearing pro might be needed to block that High frequency sound. You get the same sound from an anvil and a howitzer.
