      @@trillspilltx6628 Or Busta and Tech if we talking about people rapping fast from the 90s. But Bones flows and harmonies were one of a kind. Even people who weren’t a fan have to admit they are one of a kind. They paved the way for all this singing in rap nowadays. The first rapper to blow big copying they harmonic style was Nelly. Nelly be the first to admit it to. He tried to get signed to Mo thugs records but Layzie wasn’t interested apparently. Too bad because while not a fan of much he did after but Country Grammer was a masterpiece .Nelly got a classic album and most rappers can’t say that.

    It's important to note that rap/hip hop before the proliferation of the internet and social media had very distinct regional sounds. Bone Thugs had a unique rapping style/sound and put the Midwest on the map in a time dominated by East Coast and West Coast rapping styles.
    You should listen to Notorious Thugs by Biggie ft /Bone Thugs and Breakdown by Mariah Carey ft Bone Thugs. Both Biggie and Mariah emulate/mimic the fast rapping style of Bone Thugs which was novel at the time.

    It looks like I came here a year too late, but I do agree with Kai about the music around the time Bone Thugs-n-Harmony came out. I actively looked for artists that sounded different from the gangsta rap that was all over by that point and not only found this group, but Wu-Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, Redman and others. This branching out introduced me to the music I still cherish and come back to today. I'd also like add that I felt Bone Thugs not only musically bridged the gap between East and West Coast rap, they literally did this by being mentored by Easy-E and later collaborating with Biggie, which blew my mind when it happened. Thanks for your reaction!

    I played this song, dear mama, and changes, on repeat for my mother who past away in 1994, and my father who I didn’t know but passed away in 1992. These songs got me through a lot of pain as a young kid, I was 9 when my father passed, 11 when my mom died, was playing these songs as a young teenager, with such grief. I’m 39, and still go to these songs as I did back then.

    The concept of “crossroads” is a major theme in black American music. It goes all the way back to the blues era & it comes from Black American hoodoo. A lot of the great black guitarist & other musicians are said to have sold their soul to papa legba at the crossroads to gain their talent. While that isn’t the theme for this song I thought it should be mentioned how African Spirituality travels through Black American culture even though due to slavery we have been so far removed from African culture.

    • @frontroom
      @frontroom  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, “Crossroads” was performed by The Cream (Eric Clapton) and that was the first I knew of the song. but found out much later that it was originally written by Robert Johnson, and covered by a ton of musicians. I probably should have referenced that during the reaction. If I knew the deeper meaning once I had forgotten, so thanks for that! - Kai’s dad

    Also film, 1. You gotta start showing your father some of the videos. Visuals are highly important in hip hop. A lot of music you introduced your father too the impact & success was actually due to the video. For ex. this song! I was only 6 when this song came out but I vividly remember this video & how it scared ALL us kids at the time lol.
    2. Your father will probably never understand the metaphorical prose in hip hop unless he’s introduced to classic black films & tv shows. Almost every hip hop song especially the 90s references a throwback classic film or colloquially called “hood classics”.
    Ok that’s it :) keep up the content.
