This is the first hip hop music video I remember watching. It came out when I was in high school and it was so powerful. Also, very rare to see a Black angel depicted at all in those days in the media.

Quick history lesson: probably the best remix ever made. In the original album, Crossroads was featured dedicated to Eazy E himself who passed away to AIDS. As Bone got ready to release it as a single, they found out they lost so many more friends and family back in Cleveland. Bone then went back into the studio to rerecord the song and Tha Crossroads was born. Layzie and Flesh are brothers, Wish being their cousin. Krayzie and Bizzy are childhood friends. Together they scrapped up money and hitched a Greyhound from Ohio to Ca to chase their dreams. They were homeless for months but managed to call Ruthless everyday. They finally got the opportunity to present their skills to Eazy E over the phone when Krayzie rapped. Eazy was very impressed but never called back. Bone then found out Eazy will be in Cleveland for a show so they hustled back on the Greyhound and got to go backstage to see Eazy on person where they were signed on the spot. Talk about perseverance!

This song should be as iconic as Gangsta’s Paradise. It probably is held back by the way they rap, but their voices are truly instruments within their music. It makes it so much better.

I was in 8th grade living in NY and only later that I was like "oh shit.... they're from CLEVELAND!" Just cos in that era everyone was NYC or LA (I thought). Respect to the Land and to Bone Thugz. Also EZ E gave them their shot and wanted them to move to LA... hence the heavy respect to E who died before this.
Nobody has ever come close to their style since. Love this reaction (as usual)

This song was for Eazy E after he passed Eazy was the one who discovered bone thugs and gave them their break by signing them to ruthless records. This was their way of giving love and appreciation to E. The angel of death that was Eazy E in the end he was the guy with the raiders hat on RIP Eazy E

However, I never heard this song even though I loved the whole West Coast rap scene. Thank you BJ for your explanation and guidance. Good music is timeless. This song is still prevalent today. 💜💕you and Asia!

To answer that question, they got signed by Eazy E as "hustling/stick up kid" teenagers (the story is wild, they went to LA to look for a record deal being they were on the run in Cleveland and called Ruthless Records daily, rapped for him over the phone, and he was about to be doing a show in Cleveland so they had to hustle money up to go back home to meet him backstage at that show, and the rest is history)
When they got famous and moved to LA, a lot of their friends/family back in Cleveland started dying (all murdered) and they said it felt like a Gift and a Curse (The game and the losses)
They originally made "Crossroad" which was the original album version which is a completely different song, THEN Eazy E died and they did this remix, and it went BIG BIG on the pop charts, while this was huge, the label and their careers were in perile.
The "E1999 Eternal album has went Diamond and was re-released with this version after about 6 months
("Tha Crossroads" rather than "Crossroad" after 6 months or so... And at one point there was a 3rd release that had both versions.
All in all, Eazy's passing inspired this version, the other version was eerie/more street but still melodic and had its own vibe, but wasn't as POP... I DEF recommend listening to it, it's great also!

They made this song before easy died but once he passed it was changed to be a tribute for easy. Him passing crushed them dudes. They were still in the process of blowing up and easy was a big part of that success plan. They had to start from scratch after he died.
