That makes sense! I’ve used that knot for changing balls of yarn but every time I have to find a video and try a bunch of times to get it right 😂 Maybe using it so often would allow me to finally memorize how to do it! Thanks for sharing such a great idea!

Oh good, I already do this on all yarn changes 😄 but strangely enough, I've never thought about using this technique for granny squares 🤔 you're right though: I don't do granny squares at all because of the color changes. I am way too lazy and actually go for crochet patterns where you don't have to join or change colors at all. Thanks for bringing this up! I will try the granny square project I've always liked but never actually started haha😂

Love, love, LOVE this! I’m in the middle of a 2 color “Cat Stitch” pillow cover. This just saved me weaving in the rest of the ends. By the way, it’s a yarn saver too. It doesn’t take nearly as much yarn to accomplish this change over as it does to leave a decent tail end for weaving, half of which you cut off anyway. Thank you so much! 🥰🥰🥰

Hide your beginning end in your work as u crochet! Then all u have left is the ending tail at the end of the granny square.

It's called a reef knot, I learned this in the brownies 60 years ago. If you follow "left yarn over right yarn and under, right yarn over left yarn and under" you can't go wrong.

Hmmmm, I really like not having to weave in all those ends. But what about the “granny lean?” You’d be starting the new color in the same corner each time. Would blocking eliminate the lean? t.i.a.

I'm not getting how you're lining it up perfectly. I mean I get it pretty darn close but it has to be just right Especially if you're changing to a much lighter or darker color otherwise you have a "spot" that looks terrible. Do you know what I mean? Those knots have to be right on give or take a centimeter.

Like some other commentators here I also wonder how to find the exact point of yarn where to tie the knot so that the colour change doesn’t show at all. Do you have any extra tips for that? I tried this and the result wasn’t what I hoped for. Would be a lovely technique if it works. ❤😊

I use this method when I was making a complex C2C project with MANY colour changes, to avoid having to hold bobbins and carry the yarn, or cutting then weaving in hundreds of ends. I worked out a method whereby the knot is always on the wrong side of the work, and when I worked my final block, my blanket was done, save for the first and last end.

  • @m0ther0ne

Please don't take offense but are you sure you are tying this knot correctly? I've been using this knot for years and never had it come undone even when I wash the project frequently. The other name for this knot is "surgeon's knot" because this is exactly how surgeons tie off usually and I would hope they view it as secure. I have had the knot slip out when I am not careful and precise while tying it but it does so right away so I know to redo it correctly. ❤

I wondered about this too. Also, is doing all this work REALLY a time saver? It doesn’t take much time to weave the ends in when you’ve finished the square. If you do it as soon as the piece is finished you don’t land up with hundreds and hundreds of ends to weave in all at once.
